2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2020

On 7-20-20 I spoke with stephanie ( 1-800-222-1020) on the NHTSA site, were I got the phone number. I told her I entered my VIN and found there were 6 recalls on my 2006 chevy Cobalt. I explained to her on 7-15-20, I left for work but noticed my power steering was not working properly. I was afraid I would not be able to make the turn onto the expressway because of the steering. I went and purchased power steering fluid, only to learn there was no place to put it. Stephanie and I looked at the recalls together. We discussed the numerous recalls she saw along with me. She set-up a diagnostic appointment here in conway, ark were I now reside for 7-23-20 @ 7:00am. Superior dealership. I arrived and (lisa) asked if I had an appointment, I said yes. I told her what my issue was and she went into my car and pulled out something under the dash. She had in her had something she said would light up red if there was a problem. I was under the impression I was going to have to place the vehicle on a machine in order to find out the problems. She then told me there were three recalls on the car but they all had been fixed. And stated I would be charged $ 150. 00 for a diagnostic test. I explained to her I had not received any communications pertaining to recalls on the vehicle. I clearly saw on the NHTSA site recalls for , the gas tank which I had to replace because it was leaking gas. I replaced a fuel throttle because when I was driving on the expressway I lost power in rush hour traffic. There is a problem with the air bag because it is showing it's off, so I know if I were to get into an accident it will not deploy. I believe the recalls I saw on the site were legit recalls. I'm not certain how they disappeared from the site when I showed up for my appointment only a few days later. I was told I could pay the $150 because their techs had to be paid or get rid of the car.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

While driving on expressway, car went dead> had to make an emergency stop. Power steering went out, but after restarting the car it was ok. It keeps happening off and on- on occasions. I kept smelling gas, took it to car repair shop was told I could not drive the vehicle, was told the gas tank had to be replaced or whatever the part inside the gas tank. Note: when the power steering problem arrived I was leaving going to work. I started the car but the steering was hard to turn so I pulled back into parking space and turned off the engine. I restarted after a few minutes-was able to steer ok. Upon smelling gas this went on for serval days. I thought it was fumes from other cars. I would smell gas while driving it. One day as I pulled up to work I got out of the car and noticed something wet next to my front tire. I could smell gas fumes. I took it to repair shop the next day. Shop told me the car could have caught on fire.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

There is a terrible gas fume smell from inside the car. It is stronger on the passenger side where the fuel tank is. The check engine light is also on, again. This happened around 125,500 miles.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

This has happen to me 5 times all at different times. One time I was stationary in a parking lot. The others have been driving down city streets, turning corners and on the highway. I will be driving down the road or just start my car and the gauges just go nuts. My security light will come on my fuel gauge, rpm gauge. And mph gauge will just go to zero. The rpm gauge bounces up to 900-1000 then back to zero. The words on the dash will read low fuel (even if I actually have a full tank) and then it'll cut my power steering and I won't be able to turn at all or barely. I also have a video of it doing it while I was stationary. This is dangerous and has made me almost crash multiple times. And once I actually hit a curb in a parking lot when it decided to happen.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

There have been many recalls on my model and year of car (2006 chevy Cobalt). The most current issue I am having is a gas leak near the tank (rear passenger side). For some reason, the dealership is telling me that my particular car, based on where it is registered is not covered in the recall. I live in kansas, I bought the car in oklahoma. Oklahoma-registered vehicles are covered, kansas-registered vehicles are not currently. This needs to change and quick before my car explodes.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 50 mph, a strong odor of fuel entered the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Some time ago I received a recall notice for the fuel lines. I contacted dealership and they refused to repair. Currently I have an active fuel leak around fuel tank when driving. Somebody told me about this website, so I am writing here to see if somebody can enforce recall for my car. I don't remember now when I was rejected, so I will put /1/1/2016 for the date. Thanks.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2015

Fuel started leaking from top of fuel tank only when running. I understand there was recall on other models registered in florida and nevada why not new jersey?.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I have a gas leak under the car wherevtha gas tank is. I have had this leak for awhile. Wanted to know when the recall will hit georgia so I can have it fixed. It smells like gas at all times. 15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

I have a serious leak in my fuel tank. The location of this leak is on the passenger side near the rear tire. The fumes are so strong it can be smelled over 50ft away from the vehicle. I have literally had gas leak onto a friends hand when they leaned down to check for a leak. I myself am a 24 year old female, my passangers on a daily basis include a 24 year old male, and two children one of which is my four year old son and a five year old girl! this is extremely dangerous and members of our familes as well as friends are extremely concerned for our safety! I am extremely concerned for our safety as well! you have a previous recall for the year make and model of my vehicle but only limited to a few specific states! this is a serious problem, I have read reports of many others having the same issues as me with this car. Something needs to be done and it needs to happen before something horrific happens to someone who is either in or near these vehicles!.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Hi there about two three weeks ago I started smelling fuel every time I got out of my car. My husband checked and it looks there is a hole in the gas tank that or the tube that allows the gas to flow is cracked. I saw that there was a recall for this but only in vehicles that are in nevada, arizona and texas. I am not driving the car currently due to safety reasons. Every time gas is put in the car you can hear it leaking out the bottom. I am not sure what to do to fix this. Can some one help me?? thank you. Katie.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

The vehicle started to emit an odor of fuel when parked, not running. A few days later a visible puddle of fuel was under the body of the car. This has been recurring every day since the first occurrence. Now a visible leak from above the fuel tank can be seen dripping fuel at an accelerated rate.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

Car leaks gas, no hole in tank. Saw report about recal for this but my dealership in arizona has stated my vehicle does not qualify. I am confused if there is a recal for this problem how does my vehicle not qualify. This is a hazard that could effect the life of me and my family.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

The seal where the fuel filler tube meets the gasoline tank is leaking. It is continuously wet in a circle about two inches around the tube. It is not dripping on the ground at this time, but looks as if it will within a short time. The fumes are very strong. I moved the car out of the garage to avoid an explosion hazard.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

Gas tank leak on top of tank - tank is corroded and leaking. Never received a recall notice!.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

I started smelling gas from underneath the car and when I looked under it I noticed that there was some fuel under the car. I'm thinking its the gas tank and I can't drive the car like that because any spark can cause a fire.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2013

For the past few days my wife and I have smelled gas after the car was shut off. Today we now have fuel leaking from the fuel tank area of the car. We looked the problem up and see that a recall for the problem. We call gm and were informed that our car is not on the recall list. Our car is the same year and model as the recall but we live in the wrong state.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

Smell of fuel went to get it checked and it is leaking gas from the top of the fuel tank.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Strong fuel smell while driving and when vehicle not running. Fuel leak from gas tank area. Gm recall will not cover because they say it was a "goodwill" recall and put mileage limitations. Gm wants me to pay dealership for an "official" diagnosis and they "might" help me. Sounds like a gimmick to get more money for the dealership. They know I am over the mileage limitations so why pay the extra money for an official diagnosis? rip off, they know this is a problem. When someone blows up maybe they will repair then??.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2012

Started smelling an odor of gas, very strong. Started making me nauseated and gave me a headache. By the time I made it home I notice that my car used a lot of gas. My brother looked at it and says the gas is leaking and it is on top of the gas tank.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

Driving down the highway at approximately 65 mph my fuel gauge crashed. Dropping to empty from half full and stopping my vehicle in rush hour traffic. I immediately pulled to the side of the road to check the engine for fuel. Nothing found. Got on my hands and knees and checked under the car to find fuel showering out of the bottom of my fuel tank. I called my local Chevrolet and gave them my VIN number only to find out that yes there is a recall in effect for this problem but its only available to be fixed for free in 2 states. Arizona and nevada.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

Strong odor of gasoline. Noticed gasoline on bottom of fuel tank and tank shield. Looked for recalls and found recalls for the fuel module on vehicles registered in states that have a hot summer climate but no recall issued for the state of missouri. With the record settings temperatures this summer in st. Louis recall should be extended to the state of missouri. ## VIN passed ## Chevrolet Cobalt lt 2006 ##.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

There is currently a recall on this make, model and year in the states of arizona and nevada for fuel tank problems (NHTSA campaign 09v419000). I live in missouri where my car was issued and am currently experiencing the same problems to my car due to the extreme heat in the area. I think that all cars that fall within the make, model and year should be recalled in the midwest due to the extreme heat we've experienced.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2011

I was under my car inspecting it for a leak from spots I saw on the drive way. I found out the hard way it was a fuel leak near the gas tank when it decided to catch on fire with me underneath the car. I was not injured but the car was a total loss. I had previously asked the dealer to do any recall work needed when my power steering pump had gone bad. They told me the power steering pump was the only recall issued for my vehicle. I found out now, over a year later that some were recalled for a fuel line problem like this, and mine has a VIN that matches the recall, but since mine was not sold in a state covered my vehicle was not covered by the recall. Would have been nice to know before crawling under the car.
