16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

At roughly 110,000 on a gently used 07 Cobalt the internal timing chain broke and rendered the engine useless. The repair - a total motor swap for $5k! after I ran into this problem my wife looked up other reviews on the Cobalt and found out numerous people have had this problem. This is a supper expensive error that chevy has overlooked and costly for the consumer - us! as with others, I went through all the official recalls such as the ignition and power steering, and then I paid an additional $600 for the fuel system to replace - another notorious problem of the Cobalt, and now this!? completely unacceptable. If you cant make a car out of quality parts, don't make one at all! anyways, luckily this happened while we were parked but of course it was very inconvenient plus we had to pay for the tow. It might have showed symptoms of a problem two weeks prior with occasional difficulty starting the car with either prolonged cranking, or even a second try was needed. I don't know what exactly is failing whether it's the plastic parts or the timing chain itself, but there is something here that should be investigated and ultimately lifted to a recall cause there are a lot of people out there affected by this, and $5k isn't something that anybody should have to pay for a corporation's incompetence.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

I was driving down the road, when a warning signal went off on my car, a message came up that said "engine power reduced" and my cars acceleration was significantly reduced. I could not go over 10 miles an hour and the car was shaking violently. I pulled into a gas station that I was luckily close to, and the car lurched forward as soon as I put it in park, almost causing me to hit the building directly in front of my parking spot. I turned the car off and let it sit for minute, only to turn it back on and have it act completely normal. I have had 3 different mechanics look at it, and several things replaced and the problem still persists. My car cannot go more than 10 minutes without having this issue, and the next time it happened I was on the freeway and it almost killed me and the person behind me. I have read the chevy forums and complains and I am not the only person having this issue. There are many people, in my position who cannot afford new cars, who bought chevy's bc of the american name to only be screwed by the corporation. I have no choice but to drive the car as I have to get to and from work in order to live, while this continues to happen every time I drive the car. Someone. Needs to make chevy accountable for their terrible cars!.

Car just turned off with no power, while backing from driveway. Could not stop the vehicle and ran over my boyfreinds foot. Two nieghbors were able to stop my vehicle since wasnt going fast. No warning. Vehicle would not restart. Just passed annual inspection and always followed maintenance schedule. It should be noted that my boyfriend injured his foot and wants to file a claim with my insurance. Im trying to talk him out of it because I dont feel I was at fault and I dont want my rates to increase. Chevy corp should resolve this issue before someone dies. I took my vehicle to the chevy dealer and they want to replace my engine at my cost. $3800.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

I was driving in town and suddenly lost all power. I had to use the momentum of the car to move over 2 lanes of traffic in order to get pulled to the side of the road. Had it towed to the mechanic and found out that both the fuel pump and the electrical panel under my fuse box had gone out. This cost me over $1800. 00 to have fixed and the mechanic states gm was aware of the fuse box issue and to watch for a recall. Also the fuel pump was a specialty that was not placed in most cars of this year/model and had to be ordered from the factory. The problems that are happening with these cars are ridiculous. Gm should have to pay the owners to have the entire car replaced.

I haved called to check and all they say its that is going to be ready soon. My daughter really needs the car for school and work transportation. Can something be done from the goverment so that the process can go by faster? it wasnt my fault that the car came out with alot of problems!.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

First the batttery died in the car. After that the car fell apart. The keys became lodged in the ignition and would not come out. The stereo lost all and complete power. Fuses were checked for the radio none were blown. As a result of the keys being stuck in the ignition, it drained power from the battery and I had to turn the interior overhead light to on and the car would then regain power and start. All except the radio. The recall for the iginition cylinder was announced and I had the car serviced at a gm dealer. After the repair of the ignition cylinder the keys still were lodged in the ignition switch. I was told the switch lever needed to be replaced. How could a dead battery cause all of this at once. The radio and electrical issues happened directly after the battery died and never returned back to normal even after purchasing a brand new battery.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

While accelerating moderately from a stop, the engine completely died while in first gear. I coasted to a stop on the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights to alert other motorists. Each time I tried to restart the engine, it sputtered and shook violently and then died. I kept trying for about five minutes and on one try the engine finally started and stayed running. The rpm gauge remained at zero even though I was able to accelerate and drive away from where I had initially pulled over. After about a minute, the rpm gauge started functioning normally. Please advise. Thank you.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

This is my second e-mail to you about my timing chain breaking and destroying my engine which I had to replace at my expence ($5,100) because gm would not pay for the repairs. I am resending this because of the recent recall on colbolts ignition switches that they knew about 10 years ago and did nothing. The timing chains on these moldles (colbolts) have been breaking for years according to 3 machanics I spoke to whom all said there schould have been a recall years ago just like the ignition switches they ignored up to now. Please look into this defect because I have also herd from 5 other colbolt owners who have gone through the same problem as me. ( not a coincidense).

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

My timing chain broke causing damage to the engine block. I took it to my chevy dealership to have it repaired but they wouldn't cover the cost. I towed it to my mechanic to replace the engine at a cost of $4,500. That is when I was told that the timing chain breaking is very common on this model car. Since this happened I have herd horror stories from other people who have gone through the same stress with gm. I also looked on line and found many other similar complaints. It cost me $250. To release my car to tow it to my own mechanic and they did absolutely no repairs. I called gm directly and they offered no help at all. The timing chain is definitely a defective part and gm knows it!!!.

I would be driving down the highway and the car's dials would not work then start bouncing around. Then the power steering message would read out, I would loose power steering. If I slowed down it would take more of an effort to get the car up to speed and the car would jump in to gears hard. It wouldn't shift smooth. None of the gauges would work, and if the a/c was on it wouldn't work. When it started back working, the engine lock light would stay on. And the car wouldn't shift in and out of gear with out jerking.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

My husband bought his car Nov. 6, 2008 and since that we didn't have a problem anything but that one window on the right of the back seat won't move. Anyway, on oct. 22, 2011, my husband was coming home from work when the power steering went off, thank god he made it safe to our home. On Monday, he made the appointment to the dealer place for the recall we kept on putting off. So the following morning, Tuesday, the dealer replaced the electric power steering. The car was working fine that whole day. The next morning, the car won't do anything at all. The un/lock button won't work as if there's no power and the car won't start.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

My husband and I purchased the vehicle in question in April 2007, at approx. 50,000 miles my car started to miss, then began to accelerate on its own and lunge as I was coming to a stop. We brought the car back to dealer where purchased, we were then sent on "wild goose chase," first we were told it was a fuel pedal sensor, nxt they replaced the computer, followed by the wiring harness, this however, did not fix the problem, we took it back for a fourth time and the ended up rebuilding the head on the motor, car has not ran correctly ever since. We tried to file a lemon law claim but needed four receipts to prove warranty work, we had three and after the fourth when picked up car the dealer would not release fourth, that was a year ago. My car now has 88,000 miles on it, it is beginning to idle rough again and when I put fuel in it, the car does not want to start, at first it will not do anything, and then it will try to turn over but will not start I then have to slam the fuel to it in order to get it started, once it starts it will idle rough and I have to keep giving it fuel in order for the idle to smooth. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned, I will be hard pressed to ever buy another chevy!!!!!!!.
