I am having the fuel leak/heavy vapor smell on the known issue with this type model car that is registered in az, CA, and various other hot climate states. It is known that the fuel pump seal cracks and can cause a fire if severe enough. I took this into midway chevy in hopes that they would realize the safety issue this known problem presents, however I was informed that it is my problem to deal with because my specific VIN is not covered in the limited recall with the fuel pump. Gm needs to get their act together and issue a regional recall and I hope that a serious incident does not have to occur before the realize the need to take care of their customers.
I take the car to camino real Chevrolet to do the recall for ignition key on 6/9/2014, I get back my car on the same day and go home. I feel that there is some problem on control of speed. On 6/11/2014, I went out with the car for a few mile, the car began lost power and slow down. So I called aaa to tow my car back to the dealer for investigate, they ask me for a checking fee of $300 and told me that they have changed the part, it will be other problem. So I searched the internet there is more recall on that model on the fuel pump and other, but they refuse to replace for me. So I called gm, they said there is no recall on my car, I don't know why? information I searched from the internet said that the wrong computer program, connection, coded keys anti-theft function will affect the car from starting. They never check that and told me to paid for changing the fuel pump. What should I do? I have no car to use over one week.

Car smelled of gas so I had it checked out and found out that it was a gas leak. I went online to see how much it would cost to repair. As I typed in gas leak in car of 2007 Cobalt how much to fix, a page came up on about how much it would cost and then a it also and questions and answer on the website. One of the question was the same exact question I wanted to ask so I opened it and found out that it was a recall on the gas leak issue. I then called the chevey customer service line to inquire about the recall. They said they was no gas leakeage recall for the 2007 chevy Cobalt. I explained to him the issue I had with my car and he wanted to transfere me to the dealer. I told him I spoke with him already and he said it would cost me anywhere from 80-1400 dollars depending on was the issue. I said online said there was a recall on the gas leak issue and since I brought my car used I don't know if it was brought in the states that had the recall. He asked me for a recall number which at the time I didn't have. I then went back on line to do more research and found out that it did have a recall and it said the chevy would fix the fuel pump module free of charge. The NHTSA campaign id # is 09v149000 and the recall number is 090226. How do I get them to fix my car without a charge since there was a recall on fuel pump module or reinburst me for the 550 I had to pay a mechanic to fix the gas leak. I did call them first, explained and let them know there was a recall on the gas leakage issue but was told there was none and the diagnostic to check where the leak is would be 116. 00. Can you please help me!.
After being sick from the chevy Cobalt (headaches and vomiting) due to the strong fuel smell, I took the car into a Chevrolet dealership for a recall of the fuel pump modular, at the time I left the dealership my check engine light was off. A few weeks later the strong fuel smell was back, I then took my car to 2 independent mechanics and advanced auto parts. All 3 said the same thing, I had a leak due to the fuel system. I was told to just take my car back to the dealership and they'd replace it free of charge as it was their fault and a chevy issue. I went to the dealership the next day, and acted encountering a rude and condescending employee I was told they wouldn't fix my car which has a crack in the fuel tank. My car has never been in an accident, so how does this happen? I looked online and this is a common problem in association with the recall of the fuel pump, but chevy isn't doing anything about it.
Started to smell gas from my car. Had to replace fuel pump was leaking fuel. Looked up recall for fuel pump after friend told me of letter received for her car. I am from missouri but the recall was for cars sold in other states. Had same issue with fuel pump that was on recall. I never received any information about recall for this though my friend, also from missouri, with newer model did.
I am writing about the recall for the 2007 chevy Cobalt that I own. Plastic parts connected to the fuel pump, could crack especially if exposed to high temperatures, and if the crack gets large enough, fuel could leak out of the vehicle and cause a fire. I am concerned because this is a regional recall, and only covers 07 Cobalt’s originally sold, or currently registered in az, CA, FL, nv, or TX, because gm says its warranty data indicates that the problem is far more common in hot-weather states. I bought my Cobalt brand new in 07 from a mi dealer and immediately drove it to edwards air force base CA, in the mojave desert. This is one of the hottest places in America. My plastic fuel pump has been exposed to higher temperatures than most Cobalt’s anywhere, yet I am not eligible for the safety recall because it was not originally sold or registered in CA. This is a serious and dangerous oversight. With the safety recall, all recalled vehicles must be repaired, regardless of whether a problem has appeared, and there is no time limit on the repair, and that is what I should be entitled to. If I take my Cobalt to the dealer under the “special coverage” letter that I received, I may not leave with a replacement fuel pump, and they may charge me for the inspection. Plus, this “special coverage” is only good for a limited time, so if my car survives, I will have to pay for the repairs myself. Why would you give a free replacement fuel pump to a person who bought a Cobalt in CA and moved to mi, where they are probably not in any danger of a fire. But not to a person who bought in mi, now lives in CA and has the danger of a fire. Don’t allow gm to ignore vehicles like mine when they get these selective geographical recalls. I called gm customer service twice, but they don’t seem very interested in this predicament. For my safety, I want my fuel pump replaced for free.
Ever since I purchased the care about 2 years ago, I notice that the gasoline runs out too fast. I always thought there had to be a problem with the fuel system, fuel pump. Or some kind of fuel leakage which is very dangerous.
I've owned my Cobalt for a little over a year and it is at 75,657 miles. So far I have replaced the fuel pump, which is now covered by the recall, but I didn't have a certified chevy dealership replace the part so it isn't reimbursable. Now the fuel feed pipe has a leak and sprays fuel on the engine and electrical connections to the backside when the vehicle is running. I am not sure what would cause this to leak as it doesn't rub against anything nor is it leaking on the under side where road damage could have occurred. It seems apparent that chevy has some major design flaws with their fuel system and quality parts.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the vehicle was emitting a strong odor of gasoline from inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the fuel tank was cracked. As a result, the fuel pump module and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was unknown.
I have been smelling fuel vapor order in my car for a while and had received a recall letter for it. So I took it in to tom gill Chevrolet and they had replaced my fuel pump for free. At the same time I had the engine light come on and it read "p0442 evap system small leak detected" figured the fuel pump was related. After they have replaced it, I still had the engine light on and it came to be the same problem. At the same time, I been having performance issues and every time I parked the car I still smell gas as I get out of the car. I got my brakes replaced and while they were up there I checked the gas tank and found out that the gas tank is leaking where the filler hose was connected to. I have never had anyone or myself messed with the gas tank since I bought it new off the lot in 2007 till tom gill Chevrolet in florence, ky had recently did work on it. So I took it back to them the next day I found out about the gas tank and had them take a look at it, and they have told me that the gas tank is cracked and needs to be replaced. Priced it to be $1000. I have explained to them why they did not detect this before and they had told me that the leak was from the top of the tank and there was no way of telling that the leak came from where the filler hose was connected to. The thing is after looking under my car at the dealership and thought about it for a minute, and I know just by looking that you can distinguish from the top of the tank and the side of the tank where the leak was coming from. I come from a family of mechanics and know well enough that they were blowing smoke at me and covering up their issues. I have also investigated this issue on the internet and have found that other people have had the same problems with this vehicle as I have and also been through the dealership and got the same ring around like I have.
A couple of years ago, I had to replace the fuel pump and another part that goes with the fuel pump on the chevy Cobalt. I did not have the money to take it to a dealer so a friend replaced the parts for me at cost. (yes he got the fuel pump from the dealer) after receiving a recall letter on these parts I took it to the dealer and they were going to do exactly what I had already paid to have done. I found my receipt from the mechanic and filled out the form that was sent with the recall letter and mailed them in. Instead of being reimbursed for having it already fixed I am being told that since I did not take it to a dealer I cannot be reimbursed. I personally do think this is fair. I could not afford 800. 00 plus dollars that the dealer or aurtherized mechanic wanted to do this work. I guess I can understand rules are rules, but you should also consider that not everyone is able to afford the outlandish prices dealerships and certain mechanics are charging for repairs.
Took vehichle to dealership regarding fuel pump/return port crack recall which was covered under recall, however, was told that my fuel tank was also cracked and needed to be replaced all together. Was told this was not covered or related to recall and cost would be out of my pocket (close to $700), including cost of the rental vehicle. I was told that if I did not replace the fuel tank, fumes would still be emitted and could potentially cause a vehicle fire. I have read other complaints with similar conditions that resulted in having to replace the entire fuel tank as well. I feel this needs to be investigated as a related issue to the current recall. I feel the investigation should be extended to include how this recall impacts the entire fuel and exhaust system.
Gmac issued recall of 07 Cobalts as well as other model years regarding fuel pump. I had the same issue with my vehicle, but was told that since it wasn't registered in the few states involved, I could not be reimbursed. I believe this recall should be expanded. My car was in florida, for a while. I have relatives there, but since it's not registered there, supposedly my issue wasn't their responsiblility.
Started smelling gasoline so I took the car into ed bozart and they said that my VIN was not included in a recall for the fuel pump and that it would cost $700 to replace it and the filter. The service person said that there were recalls for the fuel pump but my VIN number was not included. My car only has 33,000 miles on it and it should not have problem until 75,000 to 124,000 miles. I would like to see what I can do to recouple my expenses.
Fuel pump/sender assembly leak - this issue is a recall issue in several states, including arkansas, but not missouri or kansas.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the vehicle was emitting a strong odor of gasoline from inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The current mileage was approximately 71,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My car is involved in safety recall 12190 to replace the fuel pump module due to fuel leaks. I had the fuel pump replaced because of this leak but gm won't reimburse me, despite the fact that there have been several recalls on the fuel pump systems in Cobalts. The auto shop also confirms the problem is that which my personal recall was designed for.
Cobalt began noticeably loosing fuel and appeared to be losing power when gas pedal was pushed. Shortly thereafter the check engine light came on. Within a few days every time the car was driven the loss of power while driving progressively got worse. Drove the car to a "certified gm mechanic at the local chevy dealership" for a diagnostic check who stated the car needed a new motor; ($ 3000. 00). Had to have the vehicle towed from the "certified chevy repair shop" to a different mechanic because it now would not even start, which new (honest) mechanic said there is a major problem with the fuel pump/fuel propulsion system. Consequently while doing some research online we are now finding many complaints similar to ours on this make and model but for some reason due to our geological location our vehicles are not under the 2009 recall for fuel/propulsion issues? is appears obvious that it is a manufacturing issue that should cover all 2007 chevy Cobalts not just some in a few select locations.
I received a recall notice for the fuel pump which indicated that the fuel pump module may crack and cause a fuel leak. As the technician was in the process of removing the gas tank to address the fuel pump recall issue, he identified a fuel leak at the filler neck on or to the gas tank. In the end, I had to replace the gas tank, but the fuel pump recall did not cover the cost. I am reporting this because I believe this could be a safety hazard due to a fuel leak. I did not find a recall for this issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that there was an overpowering odor of gasoline fuel from the inside and outside of the vehicle. The contact located a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and called the manufacturer. The manufacturer then advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 133,000.
We started to smell gasoline everytime we walked by or got into the car. About a week later friends would say your car smells of gasoline. We took car to a local gm dealership asked if a problem or recall existed on the 2007 Cobalt. We where told that no problem or recall exsisted at that time. Two gm employees walked around the car with us and we figured the gas to be leaking near the fuel tank. Finances where an issue at that time , as payments are still owed on the car, finally in February of 2013 leak seemed to be worse. Took car to a local gargage and paid $ 427. 58 to replace the intire fuel pump assembly for a pinhole / small crack in a fuel line attached to the fuel pump. Driving the car in this condition was very stressful, thinking of a fire or explosion. Just seeking a refund on this issue, thanks.
While removing a cracked fuel tank to replace it with a new one, the supply port of the fuel pump assemble cracked and broke. This happened without much force at all, and is certainly not normal for this type of service.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while entering the vehicle, a strong gasoline fuel smell could be noticed inside the cabin. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel pump failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue and notified the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 73,000.
My 2007 chevy Cobalt started smelling very strongly of gas fumes- so much so that I was afraid to start it in the garage & began parking it outside. I then noticed puddles on the ground and my gas mileage dropped drastically from my average 30-32 highway mpg to about 18-19 mpg. I am currently overseas on military orders in germany. I had to wait for an appointment and got the car checked out and was told it has a major gas leak and is not safe to drive. It has a crack in the fuel pump and needs to be replaced. My complaint is that the recall on this defective fuel pump is limited to "warm weather states. " a defective part is a safety concern that knows no geographical boundaries. I have been accumulating a lot of debt from having to have a rental car, which I am driving for safety reasons, until I can get an answer as to whether gm will replace my defective fuel pump. I should not bear the burden of the cost in addition to the inconvenience due to a known & recalled defective part based on my geographical location.
I started to smell a strong odor of gas and called to schedule an appointment with a local dealer. They discovered a fuel leak possibly from a crack in the fuel pump. Unfortunately, my car isn't covered in the recall because I don't live in one of the "affected" states. Smell is so bad we don't drive the car with our kids in it anymore - causes headaches. Waiting for gm to mail letters about this issue to everyone who is affected regardless of where they live. According to an article from October 2012 ". . The company also plans to send letters to owners in other states offering a free repair within a limited time period if the parts are cracked. " ---> hurry up gm before someone who isn't covered but has this gas leak gets hurt. . Read more...

Fuel pump lines are cracked and leaking fuel. The recall in place does not include my VIN number. Its obvious that it should. What to do?.
The contact owns 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted aroung the vehicle. The contact mentioned that after parking he noticed fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. Defective fuel pump. Leaks fuel could result in fire.
I started smelling gas. I took it to my mechanic who told me my fuel pump is leaking and is bad. There is a recall on the fuel pumps of 2007-2009 cobolts only in some warm weather states. I don't understand why there isn't a national recall because and kind of spark could start a fire.
