The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LS. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel seeped from the fuel tank filler seal. The contact added that in order to avoid the failure, the tank could be filled to no more than half of a tank. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000. The VIN was unavailable.

37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2013

On 02/16/2013 while my car was parked attention was brought to a substance leaking from my vehicle upon further investigation it was determined to be gas leaking out of my gas tank. I took my car to chevy because I discovered that other people had this same problem and that there had been a recall. The dealership then informed me there had been a recall but not for my VIN.

After exiting the vehicle, the smell of raw gasoline was noticed. On February 4, 2013, while having new tires installed, a local service center notified us that gas was leaking from the top of the gas tank.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

We took our 2007 chevy Cobalt into our chevy dealership here in roseville,CA to get our recalled fuel sensor replaced. We were then notified that our fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a crack in it, and that we are now looking at an $800+ repair for a new fuel tank. This car has never been in an accident or anything, so I know it did not crack from that. After doing a little bit of research I have found that a number of people are being affected by a) the sensor failure, outside of "qualified" states, and are not being addressed, and b) a number are getting the same call from dealerships about their whole fuel tank needing to be replaced due to this cracking. To me it seems that chevy probably used the same materials on the fuel tank as they did this sensor that needs replacing due to "heat". Now along with the sensors cracking, the tanks are doing the same only they are not covering them in a recall. I find it hard to believe that these complaints are just coincidence and that I can find a handful of complaints online about the same thing, who knows how many people have been affected by this issue and are now set back over $1000 for the repair. . 40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

A week ago we noticed a strong gas odor coming from the car when parked. This morning, I started to car to let it warm up and noticed gas leaking out of the fuel tank. So I took the car to a friends auto repair shop this morning to find out that there's a recall for the exact same problem. Recall #09226b my friend suggested I take the car to the local dealer (wagner GMC) in belleville, IL. So I drove to the dealer with the recall in hand only to be told that this recall only applied to vehicles made in FL, CA, az, nv & TX. So as I stood in the dealers repair shop with gas dripping out of the tank, I was told the repair would cost me $572. 00. I think this is a horrible mistake on gm's behalf that could have deadly consequences. I only feel fortunate that my family doesn't smoke. I hate to think what would have happened if our car would have came into contact with an ignition source. I also call the gm hotline to inquire about the recall, only to be told the same thing. I expressed my concern that my car is experiencing the same "conditions" listed in their recall notice, regardless of where it was made. The dealer then called me back to inform me that their gm rep said they would cover 50% of the repair cost. So the why I see it is that's a 50% admission of guilt?? I'm just curious to see if there's been any other complaints about this same problem. It really has the potential to be a deadly situation.

Check engine light came on. Mechanic diagnosed it with an fuel leak. Strong odor of gasoline in the car. Fuel tank coming apart where the fill tube enters the tank.

42 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

I have owned nothing but chevy cars for 35 years. I had 3 cavaliers that I can't say one bad word about. This Cobalt started causing me problems in 2012 and it seems to be getting worse steadily. I started smelling a strong smell of gas for a few weeks and could not figure out where it was coming from. When I finally took it to a mechanic, they told me the fuel tank was leaking and very dangerous to drive. I had to take it to the dealer because no one else would fix it. It cost over 800. 00 and I have never had to put that kind of money into a vechicle. Now my stereo speakers and turn signal blinker are shutting off for a few days and then coming back for a few days and no pattern on how long it stays or goes. I went online to see if there was a recall for the stereo and to my surprize I not only found a ton of complaints worse than mine about the stereo (cars 2005-2007- you think they would have got it right after 2 years) but there was a recall in Nov. 2012 for the fuel tank module (just 3 months after mine went up). I'm not sure what to do at this point other than contact gm but according to other complaints they won't do anything. This really has changed my mind about chevy. I see now this form requires a phone number so hopefully someone will contact me on these issues and convince me that I will buy another chevy. Thank you for having a form to place a complait.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

A leak occurred in the fuel lines on top of the fuel tank. Some 2007 Chevrolet Cobalts were recalled for this problem, but this VIN was not included. It seems that it should have been, because it appears that the faulty parts which caused the recall were installed in this Cobalt. Fortunately, there was no fire because of the leaking fuel, but the possibility was there. All Cobalts with the faulty parts should have them replaced by general motors.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

I am in atlanta, georgia where the weather is 104'. I began to drive on the highway and parked my car in a garage where I began to smell gas. Then as the days went on I smelled the gas stronger and fumes. I was riding my little 1 year old cousin around when I noticed a gas leak from the car. He then began to cough and I immediately switched vehicles for his safety. I was told that the Cobalts had a recall on fuel systems but mine was not covered. I did have a power wheel steering recall which I did not understand why I didn't have a fuel system recall. I would think they messed up both at the same time. I need this fixed as soon as possible because the heat is rising outside and the gas is actually spilling from the tank. This is a dangerous issue which I shouldn't have to fix if the manufacturer created so many.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I received a recall on the power steering. I called them and told them that my power steering had gone out twice on the car while I was driving it. They told me to bring it in immediately since I was experiencing problems. I brought it in and they fixed it promptly but ever since I have been having other electrical problems with the blinkers not clicking off, the dashboard lights coming on and off. I also had a problem with my gas tank leaking. I had someone to fix it because it was pouring gas out and I didn't have the money to pay what a dealer would charge. Several months after I had it fixed I got recall in the mail for the faulty gas tank. I also had a wheel berring that went out but the car was still under warranty and the dealer fixed it free of charge.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that within 20 miles after refueling to capacity, the fuel tank had burned one quarter of a tank of gasoline. The contact also mentioned that there was an overpowering odor of gasoline from within the vehicle. The overpowering odor would cause the contact headaches whenever she operated the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was nothing that they could do to assist with the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Car has a hard yank after coming to a stop and starting off. Knocking noise coming from rear of car since day one of purchase. Vibration in accelirator and gear shifter. Lights on interior of car dashboard goes on and off. Problem still happening today and has had tsm replaced as well as they always say they cannot dupicate the problem. Check engine light has never came on at anytime the problem happened. It happens after car is driven and heated up. Only happened when long trip over 50 miles, now since ignition has been changed on call back. Problems has worsened lights on and off, transmissin hard shift when driving short trips as well as a constant vibration. Knocking coming from gas tank side of car was maily durung cooler weather now happened when day was above 90 degrees. Electrical problem with vehicle I think and has caused many problems and even deaths. Do not think it was keys ignition. I seriously think is is in the entire electrical system. Problem should of been fixed when 1st reported, but they only reset the trans computer.
