The dashboard warning light "power steering" came on and the steering wheel suddenly became very hard to turn. Both times were at low road speed, in cold ohio February weather. My 17 year old daughter was driving both times; it is her car to drive. The first time she had been driving about 6 miles and was approaching our driveway. She hit a curb when the steering failed while she was turning into the driveway. When she turned the car's engine off and restarted it, the steering and warning lights returned to normal. The second time was 24 hours later when she was backing out of a parking spot after the car was parked for about 3 hours. Again, turning off the car and starting it again made the problem go away. I am very concerned about my daughter's and other's safety if the power steering were to fail at higher speeds or in heavy traffic.

While driving my 2007 chevy Cobalt on 1/31/10, my power steering light came on and I lost the ability to drive with power steering. I shut the car off, checked belts and fluid, all were fine. I restarted the car and had no further issues that day. On 2/2 /10, while driving, again the same light came on and power steering was gone. I pulled off to the side of the road, shut off the car, waited a minute and restarted it. Again the problem cleared itself. I have made an appt. With the service dept. Of bob johnson Chevrolet in rochester, NY for repairs on 2/4/10.

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt - power steering failure. Happens more often when weather/car is warm, particularly when weather is over 75 or 80. Most often when car is warm, like during long trips or when driving many places in one day (errands). I have had as many as 5 occurrences on days I am running many errands. The dashboard warning dings and power steering light comes on, the power steering fails and you cannot control the vehicle. Normally, you can stop the car, turn off the ignition and restart the car and it will work again for a while. Once crashed into my own carport pole, once ran over a curb. No one was hurt, and there was no serious property damage, only a bent support pole on my own carport, but I was lucky I was going extremely slow when this happened. It this happens at a higher speed, or in oncoming traffic, it could cause serious injury or even death. I took the car to a mechanic and was told the entire steering column/system would have to be replaced at a cost of over $2000. I am unable to fix this due to the high cost. This car is a 2007 with only 38,000 miles. Should not have major problems like this.

We live in lumberton texas and we had to go to shreveport,la to take a friend of mine to the dentist. On the way home while we were in town the power steering light came on and my husband had trouble steering it around curves and turns. Not knowing that it was an electric power steering, he pulled into the store to get power steering fluid. He couldn't find the place to put it so I looked at the book that came with the car and found out. Well when we got back in the car to leave it was fine at first, then it started it again and all the way home. We have noticed that when you turn the car off for a while and start it back it does ok for a little while. We have problems with it everyday. Once the power steering acts up it stays that way until you turn the car off and let it cool off but after your driving it again its starts all over. We have not had an accident yet and hopefully we don't. It is very hard for me to drive it but I have to use it sometime to go places. We have not had it fixed yet and were told it could cost alot to get it fixed. We don't have the money now to get it fixed. Another complaint is well actually was the gear shift. It would not go all the way into park, I guess, and you couldn't get your keys out of the ignition. We have already had that fixed though. There are other complaints I have but probably nothing that would be cover under safety issues. This car is a lemon in my book.

I have a 2007 chevy Cobalt and I am writing this complaint due to loosing the power steering on my car. The power steering is electric so it was hard for anyone to figure out what was going on with my car, I had to take it to the chevy dealer and they knew exactly what was going on. I restarted my car and the power steering kick back in, but after that one time, the power steering would go out every three seconds and there was nothing I could do but restart the car no matter where I was once the power steering went out. I have a 6 year old son and this scared me extremely badly. I am a single mother who works daily to provide for my son, and other family members, it is imperative that I have my vehicle. Unfortunately the dealer had to keep my car and the insurance company does not give you a car while your car is in the shop, the funny thing is neither does chevy, although they knew what the issue was they would not provide a car for me to use while they had my car. This also happened right before christmas, so the christmas money I had saved for my sons christmas went into getting my steering fixed which cost me $600. So needless to say, there went christmas. And according to chevy I had to pay the entire lump sum before I could even move my car, so I had no choice but to pay the entire amount. I am very disappointed in chevy for this issue, my sons safety is utterly important to me and I only got this car because I was under the impression it was a safe car, had I known about this power steering issue I would never have chosen chevy in the first place.

When will they recall it when someone is seriously hurt or even killed!!!!.
