I went Chevrolet dealership and they are telling me that it isnt fixable, that the seatbelts will just suck back down inside again. My car is fixed but is now rendered not safe to drive because the seat belts dont work, and theres no way to have them fixed according to Chevrolet.

My mother was temporarily knocked unconscience & then came to. Car was totalled out. (doctor ignored to perform a head scan instead he scanned her back). Failure Date: 10/25/2019

I have a serves airbag light on it comes and goes as I drive doesn't seem to matter highway or in city. Even if I have a passenger in the front seat. From my research it's a know issue with chevy Cobalt for the sensor in the seat or the seat belt wiring harness to short out I don't know why it hasn't been recalled yet my car has 89. 000 miles on it but some people have had it go bad as soon as 35. 000 now this is an safety issue that gm refuses to address I haven't seen my mechanic yet but I'm sure its going to be the seat belt harness that needs replacing the dealers wants 500. 00 or more to fix the issue that should of been recalled.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

My airbag light started randomly going on and off. I noticed that it often occurred when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. I also noticed that when someone was sitting in the passenger seat the indicator often indicated that no one was sitting there. Then after about a week of this occurring, the light airbag remained on at all times and the indicator stated that no one was sitting in the passenger seat even when someone was. I then took my vehicle to the dealership and they advised that it was the passenger airbag presence sensor and that it needed to be replaced. They advised that it would cost over $1,000. So obviously I told them that I could not afford it at this time. This is a major safety concern and should be an immediate recall. I have seen and read hundreds of complaints about this exact same issue on two different Cobalt forums, the NHTSA website, and on various other web sites that I accessed through google. It is obviously a manufacturers problem and it needs to be corrected before someone is killed due to the negligence of Chevrolet. I am obviously going to get this fixed when I get the money even with out a recall, but I thing this needs to be investigated as soon as possible and I am willing to let whom ever use/look at my vehicle as a starting point. Nhtsa or Chevrolet please contact me so we can get this process started before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. Im not sure on the mileage when this problem originated a few months ago but, I believe it was around 80,000.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/22/2016

At approximately 90,000 miles, my 2008 chevy Cobalt lt sedan intermittently displayed a "service airbag" indicator on the dashboard. The indicator would appear with and without a passenger in the front seat. I took the vehicle into a chevy dealer on 07-22-2016 for a diagnosis. The dealer found history code b0081 and code 23. They stated the front passenger seat belt retractor was not working properly and causing the "service airbag" indicator. They stated the seat belt my not engage in the event of an accident. After researching online, I found service bulletin #270624, action # 10032334 describing the exact symptoms and error codes that my vehicle had. I advised the dealership of the service bulletin, they stated that since it was not a recall, the cost to replace the seat belt retractor was not covered by chevy. I had the retractor repaired on 08-09-2016. I feel that since this is a known issue and could cause severe injury or death, chevy should make this a recall and repair all affected vehicles.

I saw there has been a recall issued for other gm models with similar problems. This problem is common with this make and model and other similar gm vehicles. My chimes haven't worked right for awhile now. A quick google search shows this is a on going problem with gm radios for a long time. . Read more...

17 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/29/2016

1. Cruise control engages on it's own and lunges forward, even in traffic at 10 mph speed. 2. Seat belt on drivers seat, while stationary, doesn't release easily and takes about 30-45 seconds at times to release. 3. While on the road driving, the car displayed all the information on the dash, such as; tire pressure, oil life, mileage, etc. , then the car's speed reduces and it flashes words "power steering" and then the car died in traffic and I was almost hit from behind before I could get the car off the road. I had to call a tow truck and be taken to chevy dealer and they found nothing wrong. This has happened again today, 5/29/2016 and I had to leave my car in store parking lot for four hours and then it started, drove 5 miles home and went out again right before I pulled into driveway. 4. While driving on the freeway, I engaged the brakes and they barely stopped me and brakes pads are good on car.

18 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

My car has approximately 3000 miles on it. It is alway garage (enclosed). During its 3000 miles, it has only had one passenger for about a 100 mile trip. No one has riden in the backseat nor has the rear seat been used for transporting items. The interior has not been cleaned (not needed). It is a collector car and used as such for occasional trips. Last week, the sir instrument light suddenly illuminated (service airbag) while on a trip to exercise the car (car was stationary and the sir illuminated when the automobile was started). See gm service bulletin 09-09-40-003a issued August 2010. When sir is illuminated, the airbags are non-functional, but the car is driveable. Seems gm has a latent defect in the passenger seat belt retractor and its wiring bundle. Gm dealer charge ~$500 to replace the seat belt retractor and its defective wiring bundle. They also loosen the wire bundle leading to the retractor to give it more play and alter the seat belt sleeve to alleviate binding of the wiring bundle. This problem is generic to the whole Cobalt line and its pontiac cousin the g%. Since the fix is costly, most folks continue to drive the automobile and don't realize the airbags are nonfunctional. This presents a real safety hazard to the owners and passengers of Cobalt automobiles. This should be an immediate mandatory recall for gm!!!.

Clear coat on the front bumper is coming off really bad. The paint seems to stay on the bumper but progressively flakes off more every day. It starts as a small spot then expands like a virus. The underside of the driver and passenger doors begin to rust and are spreading to the outer parts of the doors and body. The interior lighting for the center-console (climate control) burn out fast and fail to illuminate the rest of the buttons. Having hard time understanding how this is not safety related and why I am having to pay out of pocket to fix this. This part does not hardly move and should be designed to move so many revolutions. My opinion this is a flaw in the design and should be covered by gm.

On the 2007 chevy Cobalt, the key gets stuck in the accessory position and cannot be removed. You must either jump the car or push the switch under the steering column to remove the key. With the key in the accessory position, the battery drains and renders the radio inactive. This adds to an additional safety concern because the seatbelt chime and blinker sound go through the radio and cannot be heard when the radio is inactive.
