1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

The traction control light and stability turn on then the power steering turns off then the vehicle starts running oddly and wasting gas the seats went down on their own the rear view camera turned off multiple problems.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The power steering will suddenly go out while a “stabilitrak” warning comes up on the display. There are many reports of this problem documented online in this year and model, and the 2015 had a recall for this known issue that was evidently not resolved or recalled for the 2016 model. Suddenly losing power steering when traveling at highway speed or making a turn is a tremendous crash risk as it is very difficult to turn the wheel and the responsiveness and ability to turn quickly is greatly diminished. I and my wife have both almost crashed when this has happened. Most of the time turning the vehicle off and then on again will reset and reactivate power steering, other times it does not. I have called two chevy dealerships who acknowledged an awareness of this problem, but difficult to replicate the problem on demand, and not always the same repair but almost always related to the steering rack and cable bundle. As I understand it, replacing the entire rack is about a $2000+ repair that based on anecdotal information online seems to resolve the problem. I am shocked chevy/GMC is willing to assume this liability and not issue a recall or at least offer some kind of reimbursement option for doing the right thing and getting the repair done rather than place others at risk on the roads. This problem has been going on and off for the past year.

3 Equipment problem

Key stays stuck in the ignition and won't let shut the truck off.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

When driving my steering freezes up and I don’t have control over my vehicle. I get a stability track alert. I have to shut my vehicle off and restart it in order to regain control.

The power steering and stabilitrak went out while I was driving on the freeway, again!.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2023

Once again the power steering and the stabilitrak went out while I was driving on the dang freeway!.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2023

The power steering keeps failing and this is dangerous once the vehicle is in motion. The most recent incident was July 4th 2023. We have taken the truck to lawley Chevrolet sierra vista az (mando flores-service advisor)several times within the last year and they claim they can't find anything wrong. We can't drive it until the steering is properly fixed. It's impossible to drive. We have to constantly pull over and turn off vehicle for the electrical system to reset . Then we drive for about 1/8 miles then the issue starts all over again. Once the power steer light comes on to include the stabilitrak warning lights then the vehicle is almost impossible to steer. My wife drives the truck most of the time and it's very dangerous and it's not easy for her to steer this vehicle once the power steering goes out. I'm disabled and not able to drive the vehicle in case the power steering goes out. Please thoroughly investigate this vulnerability & issue a recall to fix this issue.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Having problems with getting key out of ignition.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

The body is defective in keeping water out of the cab. Water intrusion into cab causing moisture build-up and damaging interior and electrical components. My safety is at risk due to the electrical components in the cab that run the vehicle could cause electrocution or cause the vehicle to fail while in use. No they have not reproduced the problem. Yes, gm collision center and service center (three separate times) have seen the vehicle and the video of the leak. I informed them of the tsb5396 of the known manufacturer defect issue. No warning, problem was first noticed in may 2023. I found my interior completely soaked one morning. I have waterproof marathon seat covers and they are soaked thru to the seats. Checked all windows to make sure they were up and the door seals were shut, everything was closed. Assumed that it was a fluke, followed up by checking the next morning and found the headliner dripping along with a soaked interior again. With the electrical seats and all the electronics in the dash I am concerned about that much water and moisture being in the cab might electrocute me or cause malfunction while driving. Besides the fact that moisture causes rust, mold and mildew that are dangerous to your health to breathe in.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2022

Try to completely shut the truck off but cannot remove the ignition key after putting the truck in park . After several times of starting the truck and moving the shifter back and forth then turning the truck off the key releases. Went on car gurus. Com chat line and found this problem is widespread. Chevrolet dealerships will not honor the warranty on this issue if the vehicle is passed it’s warranty. Looks like someone is going have to get injured or trapped in the vehicle for chevy to acknowledge this safety issue. Thank you for your consideration.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2022

My steering lost power assist. Very hard to turn the steering wheel. I could not park my Colorado. I could only turn at higher speeds. I could drive fairly straight, but could not make any quick maneuvers. I would not have been able to avoid anything. The dealer said it would cost $2600 to fix it. Also the stabletrack icon came on. I felt very unsafe driving my Colorado. When I asked the service person what I should do because I couldn’t afford to fix it, he said “ park it and don’t drive it”. He was very rude. He wasn’t happy that I wouldn’t pay him $4250 for my steering issue and the display screen.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2022

Key getting stuck in ignition after putting in park. Does not matter if on hill or flat service; is happening more and more frequently. Have read many articles with people having same problem. Getting very nervous!.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

After putting the vehicle in park, I turn off the ignition but the key will not rotate to the correct position in order to remove the key. . . It is stuck. Yes available for inspection. Unable to remove the key means the vehicle can not be locked. No the vehicle has not been inspected. , no warning lights were activated and no signs of an upcoming problem. It started about a month ago (once) and now it is occurring every time. I have looked on youtube and there are multiple videos of people with this problem and there thoughts on a "work around". They describe it as something to do with a pin in the ignition switch what fails to move when the vehicle is put in park. One guy drilled a hole in the cover so he can insert a bolt into the housing in order to "hit" that pin, no one should have to do that.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2021

My power steering goes out intermittently. I get a power steering drive with care and stabilitrak service on my dash. It’ll go back to normal when I shut off the truck and restart. But sometimes the service error doesn’t go away. Also, while power steering is out service rear camera comes in intermittently too.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

While driving the vehicle, the drivers information display in the dashboard changed from speedometer to radio information, the radio turned up, and on the infotainment unit; I could see it scrolling through channels. I pulled over and returned the settings to normal and as I pulled out, the system started trying to make phone calls through my connected phone. Additionally, while this was happening, it seemed that I had no other normal system sounds (I. E. Blinker, seatbelt reminder, etc. ) later while driving on the same trip, the infotainment unit turned on my backup camera while driving and continued to change vehicle settings including reciting navigation directions from an earlier trip. Needless to say, this caused a fairly significant distracted driving scenario.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2021

The factory infotainment system goes crazy while driving. It randomly changes ststions and settings. It also keeps moving randonly when using navigation feature. This is becoming very distractful and dangerous while driving.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2021

Infotainment screen goes crazy at random times while vehicle is in use. Screen jumps around and randomly changes, radio stations change, dashboard speed display changes screens as well. This is a very bad distraction while driving. I have video of this saved on my phone. I was able to pull over to record it yesterday (9/28/21). This problem has been happening on and off at random times for over a month. I have spoke to my dealer about it, and made an appointment for evaluation. I have also contacted Chevrolet service to see if it will be repaired at no cost as a safety issue.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2021

Key will not turn to off position to allow it to be removed when shifting to park position. Takes several attempts to remove.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

The key gets stuck in the ignition after you finish driving and you put the car in park. There is some lever that doesn't release when in park. Many, many others have reported this problem. It is very dangerous as the key cannot be turned to the off position and removed, which ends up draining the car battery and leaving the driver stranded. Some are suggesting to remove the safety lock on the ignition as the only solution to get the key out. This would allow a driver to remove the key while driving, which would probably result in an accident and death.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2021

Key will not come out of the ignition. Key gets stuck and will not unlock from the ignition. Repeated attempts to restart and reengage the transmission/ put into park and nothing works. This should be recalled immediately.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

The key does not come out of the ignition. You are u able to remove the key. When you take it into the dealership, they tell you it's dirty. This is not the problem, the key does not get dirty after every drive.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

Key gets locked in the ignition after you put it in park and try shut off the vehicle. Vehicle won’t turn off. It takes 10 to 20 minutes before it will release the key. I believe this is a safety issue and have seen a good amount of people online that have the same issue and the manufacture refusing to address or fix the problem.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

The ignition key won't release at times, and has been happening for months now. The engine will turn off, but some accessories remain on. Sometimes I can fiddle with the key or the shift lever, but in a worse case I need to disconnect a battery cable, take the key out, and reconnect the battery. A dealer examination said it was some kind of switch malfunctioning and it would cost over $300. Gm/Chevrolet only offered $10 reduction. Many people apparently are having this problem.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2020

When turning off the truck, a lot of times my key wont switch all the way off and wont release. The engine turns off and turns back on fine but wont release the key. It seams to do it almost every time I go to turn off the truck and in order to get my key out I have to turn the truck back on and put it im drive then back to park multiple times. I have seen multiple forums that people have this same problem. Our local Chevrolet dealer wont cover this fix since my truck is now out of the 3 year warranty.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Five months ago my key began to be stuck in my ignition. Had to continually restart my truck to get my key out. Same time I started to have intermittent lose of power steering. Only way to rectify that again is to turn my car off and restart. Just drove 13 miles with my daughter and it happened 5 times.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2020

My 2016 Colorado has been having problems turning the key off. I am having to put it in reverse and drive several times to get the key out. I have a case number with gm but have to have diagnostics done on my cost as the warranty ran out a few months back. I have researched this and there are thousands of Colorado and canyons that owners are having the same problem. Leave your keys in the vehicle and you have a dead battery. I paid $38,000 for this vehicle and they don't want to fix it unless I pay. We are elderly and concerned we will be stranded somewhere due to this problem.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2019

Ignition key remains stuck after vehicle is in placed in "park". Key will not release from the ignition, leaving vehicle in "acc" mode. Need to continuously restart and reshift vehicle to eventually release the key. Have personally spent upwards of 20 minutes trying to release key. Have taken to a certified chevy dealer 2 times, with no success. The dealer indicates chevy "is aware of the situation, but has no recall at this time. " multiple online posting indicate it is a problem happening to numerous people.

Also when cars are parked and ur turning the sensor also goes off it's own even though I'm not close to another car.

34 Equipment problem

Rear differential making loud poping noices when engaged. Sounds like metallic metal to metal catching and grinding. Specially when switching from backing up to driving forwards again. Is could result in the differential locking up.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

The transmission does not downshift from a high gear (5 or 6) to a lower gear when slowing down from 45 mph to 20 mph (or lower). When the accelerator is depressed to accelerate the engine bucks, vibrates, and does not accelerate. The engine rpm drops to 1,000 rpm or lower. If the accelerator is quickly floored the transmission downshifts several gears lower and jerks forward. This condition happens primarily on secondary roads while driving along the road and when pulling from one road into traffic on another road. The situation when pulling into traffic is dangerous because the truck does not accelerate as it should. This truck was purchased new and has 14,500 miles on it. This condition has been present since the truck was new and the severity varies with truck speed and road inclination.
