The contact stated that while driving at slower speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as the stabili-trak warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

I posted on 4/14 incident happened on 4/9. The same has happened on now on 7/29. I am glad just leaving my home on side street. Here in ludlow MA, I received same codes and steering has seized up again. I shut truck off and turned on. Codes reset and I can drive. Only vehicle at this time. I had a death and couldn't bring to dealer anyway cuz can't drive unless I reset by shutting down vehicle to regain steering. Same codes t/c straction and steering drive with care which means no power steering. This is past 90 days and second time since purchased under a month the first it happened. I could not take it to dealer under nor did I call but I took a moving picture.

I am submitting a safety concern with my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado truck. This vehicle is experiencing intermittent loss of power steering assist, which poses a significant safety risk. The root cause appears to be a poor electrical connection in the torque sensor harness connector. However my vehicle hasn't been included in the recall despite exhibiting identical symptoms. I urge the nhsta to investigate and consider expanding the scope of recall 15595a to include affected 2016 models. I am also requesting guidance on how to proceed with repair assistance or reimbursement.

Power steering and stabilitrak warnings were displayed while I was driving and I immediately lost power steering while trying to execute a turn off the highway. This almost resulted in an accident. Warnings have been displayed twice now without prior incidents, and no warning that I will lose power steering. I have not taken my vehicle in yet, but other owners of 2016’s have reported the same issues with no response from the manufacturer. The 2015 model had a recall for the exact same issue with the exact same part number, however they will not address the issue in the 2016 model. This is a public safety issue as accidents and even death can occur if one loses steering while driving.

After purchasing my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado z71 (approx. 113,000 miles) from avalon Honda in new jersey, steering began to exhibit an intermittent, jerky, “cog?like” feel—almost as if slipping or catching. It’s unpredictable but recurrent, raising serious concern for sudden loss of control and potential collision. A repair shop replaced the front passenger?side control arm, but the issue persists. It comes and goes, making it difficult to diagnose. I believe this may be a hidden steering defect that needs formal investigation.

My 2016 Colorado is having a power steering failure identical to the 2015 recall. Recall #16v054000 (issued February 2016) covered 2015 Colorados and canyons with the same type of electric power steering (eps) gear assembly prone to internal corrosion. Exact failure symptoms: sudden stiff steering, steering wheel locks/stiffens “service power steering” or “stabilitrak” warnings dtc codes like u0073, u0101, c0545, etc. Defective part: original gear assembly: gm part #23228020 revised torque sensor cover kit (to prevent corrosion): gm part #84344239 the vehicle has been taken to the dealership in January when this failure first occured. The dealer claimed it was due to the corroded negative battery cable. I explained that this was a known issue and a recall had been issued for the same part on the 2015 model. They refused to investigate further. On 07/14/2025 the issue resumed and repeated after restarting the vehicle till it reset no more and remained without power steering. I dropped off the vehicle and one rep informed me that this issue was due to wear and tear and that my vehicle was not on the list of recalls. I spoke to a supervisor and he said they would look into it but it did not sound promising.

Ignition key solenoid would not release the truck key. Chevrolet knew this since 2015 and kept using the same parts.

The power steering ceased working while on a major roadway making steering the vehicle to the side of the road very difficult to steer. If we were on a major interstate we could have severely hurt ! this happened 4 times while driving an hour away. We are traveling for 5 months and we have a dealer in two harbors mn going to look at the car . This issue has happened before and from what I read on the internet, has also happened to numerous others. I cannot understand how this issue is not a recall on the 2016 chevy Colorados! please look intro this not only for us but for others as well!! thank you, concerned and scared.

Constant power steering tighten and wheel lock. From reviewing this has been an issue for this year make and model for a long time. Should be on a recall with the 2015 model.

Power steering went out, light came on. Truck was difficult to steer. To my understanding there is a recall on the 2015 with same make and model. I stopped the truck. Problem was resolved when I restarted it. No sure if that is a permanent solution.

Power steering goes out intermittently. Stabitrak and traction control lights come on. It happened in the middle of a turn and I almost ran someone over and almost went off the road.

Power steering suddenly stops working while driving, making it difficult to steer. Fortunately when this happened today it was at low speeds and on a straight away. Warning light to check power steering went on followed by check stabilitrak system. I called the dealer and am waiting for a response. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance rep, or other. No warning lamp occurred prior to the power steering failure.

The contact used force to steer the vehicle. The stabili-trak feature was activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the rack and pinion assembly. The vehicle was retrieved, and the contact was informed that a leak was found. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the oil pan was leaking. The dealer performed a tune-up and a fuel injection service. The timing cover gasket was replaced, the engine front cover was resealed, and the oil pan assembly was resealed. The contact arrived to pick up the vehicle, and there was a puddle of fluid on the ground underneath the vehicle. The dealer inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the water pump had failed. The vehicle remained at the dealer pending the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the message "loss of power steering - drive with care" was displayed, and the stabili-trak warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that the failure had recurred several times while driving. The contact was able to the pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the power steering became functional on some occasions; however, the failure persisted on other occasions. The contact stated that the failure had progressively worsened, and the vehicle had become undrivable. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

There is a known issue on 2015 chevy Colorado where the vehicles lose power steering. There was a recall issued by gm on 2015 Colorado. I contacted gm to inform them that I believe the same issue extends to 2016 Colorado as my vehicle is experiencing the same issue. I purchased my vehicle in October 2015 so its one for the first 2016 Colorado vehicles built. I lose power steering while driving at any speed and any condition, which is a safety concern. It is hard to control the machine when this happens. I believe the issue is electrical related as cycling the key switch clears the fault and allows normal operation until the next event occurs. Gm said they were not issuing a recall on the 2016 models.

I lost power steering and stabilitrak appeared on the truck screen. I turned off the vehicle engine twice at different lights, but power steering did not come back and stabilitrak kept appearing. I recovered power steering after being at a store called doorbuster for an hour or more. I was lucky I had gotten off the highway. This incident has happen in two other occasions.

Today is [xxx], I’ll be looking up the other date that this happened to me. I was going 65 miles an hour on [xxx] and oregon I lost my power steering and almost lost control of the vehicle on the freeway because my control systems started going haywire and I could not steer the truck with out considerable strength. I was in the far left-hand lane as I slowly merged to the emergency shoulder I received a service power steering light. According to chevy, the part number that needs to be replaced is the same recall part number that they did in the 2015 chevy Colorado. This is dangerous and unacceptable. If my wife was driving the car we would’ve been in a serious accident, cause she would not have the strength to manually get the car off the freeway or if this was happening like it did last time while I was turning, and I almost got rear-ended by a semi truck please help me get back to me. I know this has been reported hundreds if not, thousands of time by other Colorado owners. Stabilitrak light came on said to service power steering. Pulled over turned off and turned back on it turned off, randomly comes on.

While driving, after being on the road for about 15 minutes the power steering went out and did not return. A warning notice for the power steering system came on with a notice for stabilink. It became extremely difficult to maneuver the vehicle. After returning home the vehicle was turned off. Later that night I turned the vehicle back on and the warnings were gone and the power steering had returned.

Power steering keeps going out will be driving and all of a sudden it's just quits going very dangerous very hard to steer especially not knowing when it's gonna happen. I hear that the 2015 model that recall for some reason the 2016 model does not have a recall for this reason. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed. This has happened numerous times, mostly time. I can turn the car off. Wait a minute and turn it back on and it clears up and sometimes it may take days before it happens.

The power steering will randomly stop working while driving. Is very dangerous when it goes out mid turn. There is no warning sign it just goes out. Stopping and turning the truck off and on typically fixes the issue. This appears to be a recall on 2015 Colorados but 2016s are having the same issue.

Was driving the truck down a straight and smooth road when I suddenly got an error message that both stabilitrak and power steering had failed. The lack of power steering makes it very difficult to turn and if it had failed during a turn, it could've potentially caused an accident.

As many other complaints regarding the power steering system failure (350 total), the vehicle will randomly lose power steering with the driver display indication of "service power steering" and "stability control disabled". The vehicle becomes very hard to steer. Once the vehicle is shut off and restarted after 10-15 seconds, the power steering will be active again. This has happened multiple times over the last 3 weeks. It does make it quite dangerous as there is not warning as to when it might happen again.

Power steering fails while driving completely goes out. Shut car off and back on, it goes away. Then driving it will go out again, been to multiple places and nothing seems to fix it.

Power steering and stability track control failed to operate while driving vehicle at a high rate of speed. No power steering was available to control the vehicle.

On main route switched to a designated turning lane for turn and u turn only with other vehicles and stopped for red light with my foot on the break. Waiting to turn I receive a ding sound for dash and 2 lights tc and car with skid lines( in my other cars has been traction control. ) message on dash said something like service stabilizer and I believe drive with caution? now I go to drive forward and the wheel is dead stiff. Unexpected and scary. I waiting for the cars in front of me to get ahead so I could excellerate a bit more to try to turn the wheel no power. I got into the lot pulled over and shut the vehicle off because I was shaken up. After few minutes I turned vehicle back on and the lights were gone and power steering was back. I then cautiously drove back home. I called the dealer and explained. They can't check codes now they are not appearing. They said they can check maybe something stored in memory. I was given a paper with dtc codes no symptom description. This happened once so far. Receipt of truck on 3/6/25 incident on 4/9/25 only one month. Mechanic says he thinks it's c0545. At this stage it could be a quirk. Why did it show at all if it's a quirk? if it happens again while I'm driving? how do I show what happened? brought it in @ 45820 miles. I've read somewhere 2015 recall was on part c0545. I bought a warranty covering me for 70k or so. . Dealer is already set to use my warranty if need be when I believe this is still a gm problem. I am not prepared to just give the vehicle back. If it happens again, I believe this vehicle is not safe when power steering just cuts off. I love this style truck but want it to remain safe. Only thing I can do if it happens again it to record on cell phone if possible and drive with caution? take my son to and from school this is scary and a payment to boot. What if?. . Why wait? I can't prove it if I turn vehicle off, I can't drive it like that either. . Gm fix it plz.

While driving power steering goes out. It is in an independent service center. Loss power steering while driving almost lost control of vehicle. Independent service center has confirmed it's the same as 2015 recall. Yes, an independent service center has the truck since April 25. Yes, power steering warning and stabilitrack came on with loss of power steering.

Vehicle is losing power steering at random intervals even while driving at 70+ mph. Power steering loss is sudden and vehicle will lunge to the left or right when it occurs, sometimes placing vehicle into the other lane. This is extremely un-nerving/frightening and dangerous. Vehicle is very hard to steer, especially at low speed, causing the driver fatigue and muscle weakness in the arms and chest. The steering wheel has slipped right out of my hands due to the amount of exertion needed to turn the wheel. The power steering issue will sometimes "fix itself" if the vehicle is parked for several hours but this is not always the case. Sometimes the power steering loss is still present the next day even after the vehicle has sat idle for hours and hours. The occurances of power steering loss and power steering return are happening completely at random. I cannot begin to explain to you the amount of anxiety that this is creating on a daily basis for the driver and passengers. Note: this is the exact same problem that caused the recall of the 2015 chevy Colorados. Same failing components. Same ridiculously priced repair ( $1600 to $2300 ) the same exact issue that caused the recall of the 2015 chevy Colorados is now occuring on my 2016 chevy Colorado. Gm is refusing to include the 2016 models in the recall even though its the same issue right down to the replacement part numbers. Please help! this is an extremely dangerous defect.
