Automatic transmission shift handle locks in park and you can not shift into gear. This is a known issue and gm even notes how to over-ride the problem in the owners manual (see page 2-31), when it happens. Since this happens so often, and to so many owners (see internet comments on problem), a permanent fix should be done and covered by the manufacturer. In an emergency situation you may not have time to play with the shifter and this can lead to an accident or personal injury. While gm does note to contact a dealer about this problem in the owners manual, no recalls seem to have been made?.
Automatic shifter gets stuck in park. Following the manual procedure does not help. Pushing release button does not help, pushing shifter forward does not help. This has happened at least 25 to 30 times. Dealer says replace shifter to fix. What's to stop this from reoccurring? this appears to be a safety problem.
After having the car for a couple of months start the odyssey of getting out the park for reverse or drive, over the time and use has been complicated, also following directions on the owners manual have to turn off the car for couple times to resolve and continuous, have tried lots of recommendations and nothing better if not worse.
