The active handling applies itself with normal non aggressive driving. When activated the brakes apply and lock up, this has happened in low speed turns at intersections and even when driving straight. I have had the vehicle to the dealership to resolve as this is a major safety concern leaving the car locked up in the middle of an intersection. They stated it was the sensor behind the steering wheel and they fixed it but the problem still persists. Secondly the driver seat has begun moving on its own and inching me closer to the steering wheel with no interference with the button while driving. I have since disconnected the seat fuse to prevent collision from improper driver positioning.
I purchased my 2005 Corvette c6 from a used car dealership on 4/30/2023. The car was fine for the first week. The second week I began getting a lot of error codes specifically: service active handling system service traction control service abs shocks inoperative service fuel system. At times it would go into limp mode. I would find a safe place to pull off. I would shut the car off and it would not restart. I would check the relays under the hood and the passenger floorboard. Eventually it would restart and drive again until the next time. I have replaced the following components: battery cables with factory replacement new battery, twice new high output alternator and a new belt. These items solved the many codes. Now I get service traction system, and the traction control shuts off. When this happened last, I got a p0101 maf sensor error. Replaced the maf sensor 8/13. Has not happened as of yesterday. I have checked all of the grounds, added a new ground system called the big three. I should not have to put all this work into a well documented issue not only in the c6 but other models.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 mph down a steep hill, he depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact stated that brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The contact then saw thick smoke coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall and that the report would not be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
While driving the car in the busy road on July 5, 2005 the dic showed service active handling system, and the engine abs and tcs warning lighted up in the dashboard, suddenly the car slowed down and have difficulty accelerating.
While traveling approximately 40 mph within a left curve, the vehicle suddenly lost traction in the rear wheels sending the vehicle across the opposite lane and into the oncoming traffic shoulder. Car was traveling on a warm sunny day on a two lane country road. It is my best guess that the vehicle applied rear brakes as a means of active handling. I strongly believe if the brakes did not electronically apply, the vehicle would not have lost control.
Nhtsa campaing number 10v172000. My car is presenting this problem, it is completely unsafe to drive and I am afraid to have an accident to weight that there is evidence of the gm dealers problem do not want to attend under its responsibility.
Car stopped at stop sign turning right into traffic, steering became shakier and brakes started locking up and traction control service light came on. Top speed was 20mph.
Making a u-turn or any extreme position of steering wheel rotation causes abs and service traction control lights to engage and forces a seizure if the brakes, locking them and preventing any kind of movement. The only solution to unlocking brakes through my experience is to shut off and restart the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. While driving various speeds, the "service active handling" message displayed and the brakes suddenly applied. As a result, the vehicle stopped abruptly. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (allen tillery Chevrolet, 4573 central Ave, hot springs, ar) was notified and indicated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 10v172000 (steering); however, the VIN was excluded. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000.
I received a message on the information screen on the dash, it says service active handling system. Is there a recall for this. . Read more...
While driving through a parking lot at roughly 10mph, my car jammed on the front left, then both front brakes, bringing me to a sudden stop. Active handling was showing in the driver information cluster just like when your car loses traction for any reason. . . I thought this was very odd as it wasn't raining, no sand or fluids were present on the road in front of me, and I was barely touching the gas pedal. I then checked to see if I had run something over or if anything was jammed in the wheels/brakes. . . . Nothing visible. I get back in, reverse just fine, but as soon as I shift back to first and attempt forward motion boom it jams the brakes on again. I then re-clutched, tried again with a little more gas, thinking maybe I do have something stuck under the car. . . . Nope, it still brings me to a stop immediately. At this point, I was freaked out. . . . (needless to say) I held the active handling (traction control) button down until the system was fully disabled, after doing this I was able to drive the car back to work. I then found out about the recall and called the dealer. They told me that this recall for active handling had been completed in 2010. I asked them to please verify this as I had a headlight recall to do anyways and scheduled an appointment. Long story short. . . The service adviser told me that the previous repair had failed and that it needed to be done again. He then tells me that they do not have to fix my car because they already repaired it back in 2010 and that it would be up to me to cover the cost. After trying for over a week to convince them to do the right thing, I gave up and paid them for the repair. Im very worried that this will also not hold up. If this repair failed in the past, who is to say that it wont happen again, and this time it could cause a crash, even death. Please help, someone has to hold these people accountable.
I was driving my car in a business section of town ,I stopped at a stop light and made a right hand turn on red as the car straighten out I accelerated and the right front wheel locked up causing me to loose control hitting the curb and almost got rear ended. A message on my information display said service traction control. I put the car in park and turned off ignition then restarted message was gone and the brakes released. Thank goodness no one was injured. I'm afraid to drive this car.
First occurrance was a month or two ago. We were exiting a parking lotat about 5mph when the car's active handling locked the right side brakes to where I could not keep the car straight. I could not accelerate without a heavy throttle to overcome the brakes. Service active handling icon lit. I had to shut the car down for a minute then restart to clear the brakes. This has happened several times since, almost identically. The car was checked by the dealer but there were no stored codes for them to follow up on. Apparently the "mechanics" cannot physically inspect cars anymore. Recently and after the dealer serviced the car, it has happened several more times with my wife driving. It is back at the dealer as we speak. We are both beginning to be worried about our safety and that of other motorists.
Just as leaving dealership for low beam recall, 2 miles, used cruise to 35 mph, 10 clicks of button to 45, then again to 55. When car reached 55, I felt the car nose forward like I cut cruise w/ tap of brake. I did not. Warning light/ cruise disengaged, still looking at dic car nosed down and squatted with warning light reduced power, this caused the car to slow to 35 and feel as though I was pumping the gas and brake alternately like when we were kids and used to watch the wife's head go back and forth. Before getting off road more lights and warnings. Its hard to say which came first, it all was happening fast and as a surprise. I know service active handling, traction control and abs messages came on. Don't think they took priority over the reduced engine power though. I remember seeing it, all the way back to the dealer. Slowed and pulled into huge lot. Now it was my head doing the back and forth dance with the car @ idle, it sounded like the main bearings weren't getting any oil and wanted out of that engine at any cost. So upset with the bearing noise, I got back on the road (picking up rpms) headed back to dealer in a limp mode (35 mph) even when the posted speed went down to 25 mph, the car did not lower rps as I pressed harder on the brakes. There is more to complain about but that will remain between the service manager, gm, and myself to resolution. Stayed at dealership approx. 10 minutes. Car started fine and I left. I always drive the same, and when the car reached 55 mph at the exact same place, it all happened again the exact same way! had to bring the car home in limp mode, about 10 miles from home. Again @ 35 mph. Car remains parked, put away, and covered, until the dealership contacts me to return with it, by Tuesday of this coming week, so sayeth the gm rep. If not he wants me to call him back.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette z06. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the hard top cover flew off. The contact stated that the active handling control for the brakes automatically engaged which caused the vehicle to crash into a guard rail. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. Pam.
Turned the steering wheel completely. "service stability control" message appeared. Brakes applied automatically and pulled hard to the right. I could not steer. Turned car off the middle of the street. Car was "normal" until the steering wheel get turned completely. Scared it will happen at highway speeds.
I was making a right turn into my neighborhood at approx. 20 mph when right front brake locked up and vehicle swerved to the right. Vehicle would lock up every time I tried to go therefore I had to cut ignition off and restart. This has occurred now three times and each time the brakes locked up and vehicle swerved to the right each time and would not go! I was traveling at a low rate of speed on each occurrence and was making a right turn on each occurrence. We took the car to youman's chevolet in macon ,GA after the first incident and the charges to investigate the problem were going to be so outlandish that we did not pursue. They did not even consider checking to see if there could be a recall on this problem or any other problems we have gone to them with during the last seven years. At that point, we went to a car repair place that we use frequently on all of our vehicles and have a good relationship with. They ran a diagnostic test on the car to check for an error code on the computer but nothing showed up. The technician said that it has not done this enough times to register the problem yet. Since that time, we generally drive with the traction system off when driving in town as it is somewhat scary when the situation occurs. This has not happened to date when the traction system is off and has also not happened when traveling at a higher rate of speed.
Was driving at highway speed and active handling message showed up in the dic on the instrument panel seconds later the antilock brakes seemed to lock on one side only and tried to pull steering wheel out of my hands I was able to get the vehicle off the road and after cycling the ignition switch the notice went away and the vehicle operated normally again.
Service active handling light came on and I was making a turn and right front wheel brake locked up. Checked and their was a recall on this year make and model recording malfunction of action handling issued in 2010. Chevrolet dealer ship told me my car wasnt covered under recall but wouldnt tell me why.
When making a right turn, the car started to lock up just the left front brake only and the drivers information center stated "active handling". The car continued to lock the left front brake about every 10 feet of movement until I put the car in neutral and turned the igntion off then back on again.
Several times while I am driving the front tires will lock up, making my car turn sharply either to the left or the right, or when I am making turns, this brings me to a complete stop. The computer tells me to service the active handling system, well I looked into it and gm had a recall on this, the service bulletin number is TSB-06-02-35-002b. I contacted gm and they said that the recall on my vehicle was accomplished, well, (if it was) it is not working as it was intended to work. I cannot drive this vehicle because it is unsafe !!! do you think gm has said this was completed, but wasn't!! I do not want to tamper with my car, because if it was not corrected I would need proof, is there somewhere I can go to see if this sb was in fact completed? gm said to take it to a dealer, I called the dealer, but they we not aware of any problems like this, so I sure don't want to go back to them, just to have them charge $ me for something that they said that they have accomplished already, or if it was accomplished it did not correct the problem. Can you help, because I can not put the vehicle on the road, and take the chance of hurting someone!!.
Service active handling system warning comes on brakes randomly lock.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the wheels seized intermittently. The active handling warning light was also illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
Service active handling came on as I touched the brakes. Car pulled to the right. Trying to stay out of the right lane I applied the brakes harder the car jerked to the right. Seems the harder brakes were applied the harder to the right it pulled.
Automatic shifter gets stuck in park. Following the manual procedure does not help. Pushing release button does not help, pushing shifter forward does not help. This has happened at least 25 to 30 times. Dealer says replace shifter to fix. What's to stop this from reoccurring? this appears to be a safety problem.
Went out to drive my 2005 Corvette, turned into an office park to turn around and the front brake(s) applied on their own and the engine reduced power. I also heard some "grinding" which I believe were the brakes engaging, felt like I was driving thru "molasses". This is a known issue--NHTSA action number either pe08056 or ea09-002. I had the message "service active handling" on my dash before but no brake locking. . Very un-nerving. I shut the car down and turned off the traction control and it resolved for now. I will be contacting Chevrolet for recall considerations and hopefully some resolution. Thank god for "corvette forums" or I wouldn't of known about this. -thankyou. During freeway travel the vehicles "service active handling" message appeared and the vehicle brakes seized and pulled to the left causing me to almost hit a concrete barrier. The dealership claims that the recall was performed but the car still has this very dangerous condition.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that he was driving 65 mph before returning home. Upon returning home and exiting the vehicle, the contact smelled a burning odor coming from the brakes. The contact examined the brakes and noticed that they were seized. The sasc warning lights then began to illuminate. The vehicle was not driveable and could not be towed to the dealer. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 41,000. Sm. Duplicate to 10459095 *smch.
This vehicle (corvette) was parked , gear in reverse, with the emergency brake fully engaged , vehicle not running . While reaching in to press acess. Button inadvertanly pressed the start button which put the car into a strong violent moving reverse action, the Corvette hit my truck which was parked two-three feet behind Corvette and drove my vehicle a good ten feet before the Corvette stalled, the truck was not running ,truck was parked in gear with the emergency brake applied --the skid marks from my truck being pushed are still in my driveway and road.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette with a service active handling, abs and traction control issue. I feel it is a quality/safety concern on general motors' part as this causes the vehicle to stop abrupty at times at any speed. Currently no high speed issues have occured but fear that it may happen. I see no movement on gm's part to remedy this obvious safety issue that can cause injury to myself and maybe others in the event that the system completely fails or fails at the wrong time. The current investigation number I am told associated with this is ea09-002.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. While braking and turning in either direction, the vehicle braked independently and pulled to one side. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column failed and the wiring needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Happened twice within 2 days. Traveling at 40 mph. Traffic came to sudden stop. Had 4 car lengths and front car brakes locked and went into skid and had minor accident. Second time two days later. 5 mph. Turning right into a parking lot and front brakes locked again. They would not release. I put car in reverse. It would release, but as soon as I put it in drive it was locking. I managed to park car. Waited about an hour and brakes did not lock. Its been 2 weeks and no problem.
On may 2010 I received a safety recall notice #10118 for my 2005 chevy Corvette, that there was a problem with the active handling system. I brought it to the chevy dealer and they put a plastic clip on a wire connection. Recently the service active in may ohandling system light will appear and the brakes will apply by themselves and the car does a involuntary nose dive. I shut the car off and it might not happen again for 2 more weeks or so. I contacted chevy with my problem and spoke to brian @ 866-790-5600 ext. 33014 he told me they needed to take the car to ed morse Chevrolet and have it checked out at my expense. They were only responsible to fix this problem one time! I told brian that it was not fixed properly the first time and brought to chevy ed morse sawgrass (954-514-3440) as the dealer requested. When I got there as per the appointment all they did was trying to sell me a new Corvette! please help. . . I don't feel safe to drive my car like this, and at this point I don't really know what to do anymore. . . Sincerely. . . Jeff binder.
2005 Chevrolet Corvette has service active handling system on dic multiple times. Gm has issued TSB 06. 02. 35. 002b to insert a clip in swps to no avail. This is a steering and abs related problem and should be investigated. I have heard of instances where wheels can lock at high speed. Gm should thoroughly investigate and recall for repair.
I have had tow incidents where my "service active handling" error has come up. Last week I had my wheels lock up after trying to complete a u turn and had to pull over and restart my car to correct the braking issue as best as I can describe it was corrected. Subsequently the "service active handling" has come on a number of times and clears as the car is restarted. I have taken it in and they are able to correct the problem but have yet to find a solution from it occurring again. I have had to use my extended service contract to cover the expenses both times.
