3 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

On four separate occasions over the last two weeks the vehicle has failed to start after being turned off for a brief period of time (while refueling the vehicle, etc. ). On 2 of those 4 occasions the vehicle has required towing to a dealership's repair facility. On the first occasion, the vehicle would turn over but failed to start. It then mysteriously started again after sitting at the gas pumps of the gas station for approximately 45 minutes while waiting for a tow truck. On the second occasion, the vehicle failed to start but was able to be restarted after pulling and reinserting the fuel pump relay located in the under hood ubec. On the third occasion, pulling and reinserting the fuel pump relay had no affect, the vehicle would not start and the vehicle required towing to the dealership. The dealership noted loose connections on the ubec and also replaced the fuel pump relay. One day later, the vehicle again failed to start and required towing to the dealership, where the vehicle is currently. Upon writing-up the service ticket, the dealer stated that the circuits within the ubec on this vintage Corvette have been problematic and that the ubec would most likely require replacement. On visual inspection, the ubec appears to be located very close to the exhaust manifold on the vehicle which would make it very susceptible to intermittent failures of various ubec components caused by heat (headlights, fuel pump, etc. ). Gm should issue a voluntary recall to include a heat shield or some improvement in component design of the ubec on this vehicle.

4 Fuel Pump problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

The other day I smelled gas in my garage. The smell is bad until the fuel level drops below 1/2 tank. I took my car to the dealer and they said they cannot find a leak. I mentioned if this is covered under the 80k mile emission warranty and they said it was not. There are many complaints about this issue and the solution is to drop the tanks because the issue may lie in the fuel pump and leaking tanks on the top. I believe this is a serious safety issue regarding leaking fuel tanks and the consumer should not pay for a faulty item being a serious safety issue. I know this was an issue on the c5 Corvette and gm replaced those tanks free of charge. The c6 fuel cell is the same as the c5 and it appears like its also faulty as well. Please review all c6 Corvettes (2005-2013) complaints on this site. This should be a recall or a fix by gm to cover the costs.

5 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

Vehicle turns over but will not start fuel pump relay was changed and it started but then a week later same thing happened I switched fuel pump relay several times and stiil did not start, finally starting after reapeated attemps and swithing relays. I think there is something wrong with the contacts on the relay box. This has and continues to happen since stated date.

6 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

Vehicle cut off while driving @ approximately 25 mph. Dash indicator read "check gauges". I was able to pull to the side of the road and found that the fuel pump fuse had failed. Tried another fuse, but it blew immediately. Vehicle was towed to local Chevrolet dealer who has diagnosed problem as both fuel pumps have shorts causing the fuel pump fuse to blow. This is a very dangerous situation and needs to be investigated. It should be noted that after a day of sitting at the dealership, the fuel pump fuse was replaced and the vehicle then started enabling the dealer to diagnose the problem. Chevrolet zone rep was contacted, but refused to help. There is obviously an issue with the fuel pumps as the replacement fuel pumps from Chevrolet have been redesigned. It should be noted that vehicle has only 18,316 miles.

7 Fuel Pump problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

Defective/cracked right fuel tank (where fuel pump connected to fuel tank). Strong fuel smell noticed this past summer, while parked in home garage - smell would only be noticeable after tank was filled. Tank replaced by carr craft, inc. , of portage, mi. , with 'original equipment' tank from Chevrolet. Car owner called Chevrolet customer service and delivered tank to krum/cole Chevrolet dealership in vicksburg, mi for inspection and confirmation of crack (at request of Chevrolet customer service). Chevrolet service representative advised that it was due to "normal wear and tear", rather than a manufacturing issue and would not consider compensation for replacement of the tank. Vehicle has never been in any kind of accident and is owned by original purchaser.

9 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/16/2004

I have a brand new 2004 Corvette 1 1/2 months old with only 1341 miles on it. While driving home in rush hour dallas traffic on a very busy fast moving road, my engine died in the middle of the road. I could not restart the car & was in a very serious situation risking the possibility of being rear ended. Luckily a policeman came by and parked behind me to shield me from the traffic. If I had been on the freeway, I could have been killed. The gm dealer where I purchased the car (ray huffines Chevrolet of plano) is acting like it is no big deal. They said it is the fuel pump & they will replace it when they can get a fuel pump and if it happens again, to bring it back. If it happens again & I would be on the freeway, I more than likely would not be alive to take the car back in. I drive 50+ miles a day to & from work mostly freeway driving. I feel the dealership is trying to put my life in jeopardy. I want my money back and out of this car. In researching, I have found that 127,000 2004 Corvettes have been recalled for steering problems. I was never advised of this when I purchased this car or of any fuel pump issues. I have purchased a brand new car every 3 years for the last 20 years & I have never had a problem like this, especially with a brand new $50,000 car and I have owned 280zx, 300zx, rx7, supra, and Lexus. I need help from gm or someone to resolve this.
