Power steering locks up while going down road, limited steering.
I purchased this vehicle used from a dealership 27 days ago. Two days ago I went to restart car after a short drive and the car did not crank, dash remained black, key was stuck in ignition. My daughter in law told me to pop the hood and upon wiggling battery cables freed the key from stuck position and I was able to start the car and drive home. This is when I learned this is not the first time of occurrence. I was hospitalized several days after purchase and my kids used the car. They neglected to tell me twice they lost power while in motion and car shut off. The first time was while exiting off the freeway. The second was while making turn after idling at a red light several minutes. Both times the vehicle power steering ceased and steering became difficult. On another occasion they experienced a no start similar to mine, a short drive, then car was parked and shut off for a short time , no crank at restart, black dash, stuck key. I had previously mentioned to dealer tech that car fails to keep current date and time. Each day I note it has reverted back again to the year 2010 and an incorrect time. A reset like click in engine compartment several minutes after turning off engine is frequently heard. Radio and dash lights have flashed while car is in motion on several occasions now.
Heat wont work in cold weather. Looked up and seen tons of the same year and make with a recall for heat block. Also front end axel sounds like it wants to snap. I contacted chevy they were no help. Its our only car right now and we have a child. Not safe as far as im concerned.

Notchy or stick/slip feeling of steering wheel near the center position at or above 45 miles per hour, condition is constant, not intermittent! Chevrolet representative tells me that my particular VIN number is not affected.
At highway speeds it will start to drift to the left. When I go to give it a slight correction it feels like the steering wheel sticks and that the steering has disengaged. With a bit more pressure the steering engages. This happens all the time.

My wife and I are driving home from work and on every left turn we make the steering locks up and the stability track light comes on and all power goes off for a brief moment. I lose total control of vehicle and have to slam on breaks to keep from swerving into other lanes. This is not a healthy look. This happened 9/7/17. I am afraid to drive my vehicle cause in fear of hurting someone. I am a lyft driver and cannot take a chance of getting a customer hurt. This problem really needs to be fixed. I have had my car for a year and 4 days and should not be going through these problems. I am driving a 2014 chevy Cruze. This is a very hazardous problem and could really get someone hurt this needs to be rectified by chevy. My wife and I were traveling on preston rd to hwy 380 traveling from plano to aubrey TX. When this incident occurred with us.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. While driving 70 mph, the steering wheel required excessive force to turn and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, restarted the engine, and the vehicle returned to normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (performance Chevrolet, 3222 beverly pike, elkins, wv 26241), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer again where it was diagnosed that the negative battery wire needed to be tightened. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer the third time where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure still recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would call the contact back, but the contact did not receive any calls. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving multiple times the "service power steering" message appeared on the dash. The steering wheel became tight and as I turned the car jerked outward almost causing me to hit other vehicle. Also the message "open, then close driver window" appears frequently. The radio and speedometer flickers on and off at times. I believe that there is an electrical issue but the the specific area is unknown. Another incident occurred that caused the car not to start on 7/172017.
While driving on the highway, all the power went off and the steering seized for a short period and then came back on and reset itself. This happened twice within 30 minutes. This also occurred when backing out of a driveway where all power was lost and the steering wheel seized until it came back on and reset itself. This is a very serious safety issue where lives are at stake and find it appauling that gm has not issued a recall for this problem but rather issuing a service bulletin? these complaints are all over the internet . . . Obviously this is a critical issue for many consumers.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. I purchased my car in April 2016 with approx 22,000. On the second day there was a loud noise coming from the front of the hood which it sounded very close towards the engine, exhaust part of the car. I took it in to the dealership and they didn't state what the issue was they just told me they had fixed it. The noise went away. 3 months later I started having issues with my steering wheel locking. I was at a big intersection when I was turning left my steering wheel locked on me and my entire lights including the dashboard went out. I couldn't move my car in the middle of the intersection and luckily there wasn't cars coming towards me. It took about 10-20 seconds to come back on. When it did come back on there was a lot of lights popping up and then there was a "stabili trak" light on. I pulled over to the side because I knew I couldn't drive it anymore. I called my dealership and I took it in that same day. They told me it was a wire that was loose and they had fixed it. Well they did not, 3 weeks later the same thing happened to me and they didn't know what was going on then. I took it in again and the problem went away for about 2 months and now I am back to the same thing except something new. Not only does my light come up and my steering wheel still locks on me but my car began shaking last night and when I would drive it it would make the same loud noise from the beginning towards the front of the car towards the engine, and it would hesitate on going when I would make a stop. Like if it was about to fully turn off so my car got towed to a dealership last night. The issues were not fixed and they are only getting worse. These issues should've been taken care the first time I had gone to the dealership. Now it's the 4th time I have gone to a dealership and nothing is being resolved and I pretty sure now there is a big issue with my engine with so little miles!.
When driving straight, the steering wheel often "sticks" in one position. If I'm steered just slightly to the left, it'll stick going slightly to the left and it takes a bit more effort to "bust it" loose to correct your direction. Same is true if exactly straight or slightly to the right. It doesn't feel dangerous, but is less than totally safe as the wheel typically oversteers the other direction when using additional effort to correct my drifting. This occurs usually at highway speeds and doesn't necessarily require going in the same straight direction for a long time. I entered today's date as a single date is required but it occurs very frequently, especially at highway speeds.
While driving on the highway the car wanders in the lane and when you try to correct the steering it seems to lag or stick and you need to put extra pressure on steering to move the steering wheel. It happens over and over while I was driving. With the lag or sticking during the correction the car moves quickly for a second in the direction you are steering. So while driving the car wanders in the lane and every correction you get this lag of sticking.
Tires were always needing air and kept me from driving like I should be.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. While driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel angle sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.
Loss of electrical power to instrument cluster and radio and power steering. It can happen when moving or standing still or turning.
Takata inflators, car crashed for unknown reasons, injured 3 children, outside the car, and not one airbag deployed.
Yabba dabba doo is what you'll be saying after you attempt to flintstone this hunk of junk from gm. Such a waste of metal. I'd love to see someone from corporate attempt to take their family who is recently paralyzed & a 13 yr old whose had 4 open heart surgeries try to pedal off the freeway bc it shut off & on while overheating & trying to pry the key out the ignitiin. I've towed it to and from the dealership to spend money I practically counted in change because I lost my job due to no dependable ride. Still paying notes on a car & mechanic fees has truly shown me how selfish & greedy some can be. I'm passed to the next person who keeps me on hold to inform me of how truly sorry they are that they can't help. Apparently gm feels it's safe so how about come save me from this headache, I'll gladly let you test drive. My favorite song is "every light in the car is in".

At 55mph I felt that I had plenty of time to stop in a hurry. I applied firm pressure on the breaks and the breaks locked up. The car began to go into a skidding motion and I had absolutely no control over the steering wheel to move out of the way, I could have avoided this collision if I turned to the right, but because I had no steering ability I rear-ended them from my skid. The abs braking system, it is suppose to help me by pumping the brakes for me, but it didn't. I sustained a broken leg when the air bag deployed at my leg. On other occasions, I had also experienced the loss of power while driving. . Car would hesitate and then power and thought there was something wrong with the transmission. Brought it in for that and they said there was nothing wrong with it.
When making a slight correction on the hi-way the steering wheel feels as if it binds and the after a short turn of the wheel it suddenly takes off. It does this in either direction and you end up weaving back and forth trying to stay in your lane. The car is now beginning to do this at all speeds on the hi-way and I am beginning to feel unsafe. There seems to be no problem at slow speeds around the city.

Brakes locked up (anti-lock braking system faulty) causing the car to skid rather than slow down during stop and go traffic. I waqs unable to turn the steering wheel and could not even try to swerve to avoid the other vehicle. Car was unable to stop in time and there was a collision.
While traveling on a 50 mile trip ( each way) 100 total, over the weekend I noticed at traveling speeds of 65-70 mph that the steering was almost unresponsive for a second, or sloppy, like it had a dead spot and wasn't responding. I was noticing, that when I went to adjust the steering there was like a spot in the steering where it wouldn't react which I found very unsafe. Upon decelerating at slower speeds on regular roads around 30-40mph I noticed the problem still being there. I find it extremely unsafe and its like the steering isn't responding properly which in the event of needing to avoid an accident can end up causing one. I ask that someone please look into this matter. I did some google searches online and have found that there are many owners of Chevrolet Cruze vehicles having these problems. I will be contacting my dealer in the morning. Unfortunately they haven't been very good at figuring out other problems that I have had in the past. Cruze owners speak up please so we can get this problem resolved.
At highway speeds the steering sticks. Making it scary to drive and dangerous.
I parallel parked my car on a hillside street with the front wheels angled to touch the concrete curb per the city's hillside parking rules. I removed the key and locked the doors. When I returned to drive home after the car was safely parked for about 1 hour ( time was about 6:30 pm--still daylight) I could not turn the ignition key to unlock the electric steering lock. None of the electrical accessories worked because the steering wheel was locked. I couldn't open the electric windows, so I was sweating with all the windows closed. I was able to call onstar with my cell phone for help and they confirmed that my battery was fully charged and they had me try my other ignition key and to repeatedly turn/rock the steering wheel forcefully to unlock it with the key in the ignition. After nothing worked, the onstar service person said he would call a tow truck for service. After we hung up, and I was waiting, I tried the ignition key again, and the key turned and unlocked the electric steering lock. I could start the car to drive again. I called onstar back to cancel the tow service call. I took the car to my Chevrolet dealer 3 days later for a routine maintenance appointment I had made 3 weeks before. Nothing they could do, except advise me not to angle the front wheel when I parked & locked the car. This does not seem like a safe way to design an steering ignition lock. It took me over 45 minutes to finally unlock the steering wheel & start the car.
While driving in straight line on highway the steering locked or hit a dead spot while trying to make a minor correction to stay within my lane. I felt a slight resistance though the wheel to my steering correction and then the resistance wall would break and the car would rapidly jerked to the direction of the input. Felt almost like a notch in a ratchet. This problem would replicate the opposite direction to correct for the initial over steer input caused from previous dead spot. Car would wonder in lane chasing steering inputs and distracting the driver due to full attention needing to be used to steer the car with out drifting. Problem made me feel unsafe and I had no steering feel with the car. Makes driving in windy conditions difficult and scary. I also experienced this identical problem on a rental Cruze.
At highway speed while going straight for at least a few seconds, the steering wheel will lock up at center position. When attempting to make minor lane corrections, the steering wheel sticks and upon more input force suddenly jerks when power assist returns. This could lead to an accident especially in poor road conditions.
While driving at 65-70 mph on straight and level highway, steering would develop a "sticky or dead spot" on center when attempting to make a slight correction. It required increased effort to overcome the sticking spot resulting in oversteer causing the vehicle to over-veer. Very dangerous. Nhtsa is aware of the defect. Hard to believe there is no recall.
