The abs and traction control light came on and the vehicle sometimes doesn’t want to stop. The abs kicks in and it takes a while for it to stop. It’s been twice where the vehicle ends up stopping in the middle of the intersection. Luckily no one was in front of us or coming the other direction.
The front sub frame where it bolts to the frame was completely rusted loose on the right side. The left side was barely holding on. This is what holds the motor up and control arms. My mechanics are telling me this is a common problem with chevy Equinoxes. If it's common why aren't there recalls. My car only has 80,000 miles on it and my mechanic told me to scrap it. I'm a fabricator and welder. I welded a new frame under it but others can't do that and mechanics say it's a no fix.
I was at the car wash, when the vehicle was near the end, suddenly the engine light and powertrain light came on then shut off automatically. I tried to restart, put the truck in the drive, but it wouldn't go like the gas wasn't reaching. So, I turned it off and restarted to see if the lights would go off, but it didn't. I was able to get it home safely. It doesn't take off right away when you gas the pedal. When I stop at the stop sign, it takes a minute before it starts moving again. This is not safe to drive, especially when making a turn, pulling off to traffic. If it doesn't take off in time, it could be an accident due this problem. I hope there's a solution this problem. Thank you in advance.
Unknown replaced complete ac system/starter/new battery/ key inserted no response at all ingigtion seems to be a problem turn on key let go it was starting now nothing.
It was recently brought to my attention that the keys can fall out of the ignition with the vehicle running. Which creates an extreme likelihood that the vehicle can move forward or backward without assistance. My keys fall right out of the ignition you should not be able to take the keys out of an ignition with it running or not in park. Has not been confirmed by the dealership yet that’s my next step. And yes it can be reproduced at any time. Sometimes the key will not even start the vehicle. Hi had never reached over and just tried to take the keys out of the ignition to see if they would come out but I recently rented a room where the owner has the exact same car and the same thing happened to him and he had the ignition replaced. This is how I know that it happens because he reached over and was able to pull my keys right out with the vehicle running. I was shocked. Also at one point it says there is automatic transmission recall and mine is making weird movements and jerking motions sometimes not just on my car but on my landlord’s car as well. Maybe that needs to be looked at.
Vehicle is able to drive while key is out of ignition when engine is already running. Seat belt disconnects randomly. Vehicle can be open with a nickel coin. Ecu triggers warning lights randomly.
Well I bought it from a individual 3 months ago n the second day of getting it my check engine light came on it feels like it jerks the crap out of u when trying to to gain speed from 40-55 range n when coming to a stop sign it feels like it don't want to stop now the abs n traction control light is on dash . I have no where on my dash or anywhere in the vehicle to turn traction control on or off . The past two weeks it drinks gas like crazy it don't want to warm up like it should for heater . . Is this to do with a recall or serviced issues bc I'm ready to trade it off before I get killed or kill someone or my kids get hurt in accident bc of the issues with this vehicle.
There are two issues with this Equinox. The first, is the key sometimes locks on the ignition and I cannot turn the vehicle on nor turn the key - it completely locks leading to anxiety and frustration because it will take several attempts at trying to put the key in or even trying to pull it out of the ignition. This has been an ongoing issue since we first bought this vehicle. The second issue is the back door/hatch of the 2005 Equinox does not open/unlock. The only way to access back area is to lower back seat and climb to back area. Vehicle waswas stationary when we first noticed problem. Lots of complaints online about others having the same issue. Why wasn't this issue made into a recall issue? why do I have to pay $150-$200 (according to some complaints online) or more out of my own pocket to get this issue resolved? I can't even sell the vehicle because I disclose these issues to potential buyers and right away they get discouraged and walk away. What am I supposed to do with this car now?.
Our Chevrolet Equinox 2005 is shifting hard down shift and upshift but doesn't show any recalls on them which there should since there is problems and another vehicle someone else owns is a Chevrolet Equinox 2008 model is also shifting hard it's a seriuse problem it could cause a wreck due possibility something locking up on it also at times when you try and start it the starter trys to stay engaged have to try several times before it starts right please check into the issues before some gets seriously hurt please!! also theres been electrical issues on windows and also theres leaks from oil not for sure if it's a engine issue or not but it could get check to please check all on the Chevrolet Equinoxs please before something seriously happens to someone or us it happens when driving it anywhere.
Vehicle will stall during operation or at idle. TSB 05539 covers this issue for earlier VIN numbers. This needs to be expanded to include additional VIN numbers for later production effected by the same problem. Vehicle will restart after several attempts, but may fail again in as few as five minutes or run as long as an hour.
Takata recall: I bought my chevy Equinox in August of 2017, since taking it home it has had a lurching problem when driving or when stopped at a red light. It lurches forward and backwards like a bull trying to throw you off. I put new brakes on every 3 months because my brakes do not work even when brand new, and when I press the brake the car won't stop, or the brake pulses and vibrates. The cars gear shift sometimes gets stuck in drive when trying to put it in park. When trying to drive and the gas is pressed you hear a grinding, and the gas vibrates. I've had to abs sensor replaced 4x, O2 sensor 3x new brakes every 3 months, new tires every 6 months, regular oil changes, it's had it's valves replaced, it's had new brake lines, new shocks, regular alignments, it's had a new catalytic converter put in. The cars rpm spikes to 8000 when doing 30 miles an hour through a small town. The wheel vibrates when on a highway abs light never comes off. T/c turns off anytime I make a turn. Check engine light is I swear permantly on. . I've been told this can be a transmission and gear shift problem, but that all 3 of my regular mechanics call this problem the ghost problem, because they can't figure it out and always tell me to not drive it that it's not safe to drive but it's my only vehicle and I am 5 months pregnant and cannot afford a new car right now. This car is unsafe and needs to be evaluated.
Right when I left the dealers lot, it needed a new head gasket, intake gasket coil pack, and a thermostat. Luckily the dealer paid for that. Since then, I noticed when slowing down for a stop sign, if there's a slight bump in the road, it feels like I'm runbing over a boulder. While slowing down most times, the front end of the vehicle seems to bog down about an inch, was told maybe a motor mount? rpm's always bog up and down for no reason like it's trying to accelerate on its own. A few weeks ago my air bag light came on indicating my air bags won't deploy when needed. A couple weeks later the rpm's bogging and front end bogging downward became more constant, then my speedometer randomly will go to 0 while in motion, then a few minutes later will work fine. Rpm's seem to be working normal when the speedometer is working normal. The other day, while braking, of course. . . . The boulder feeling while braking, front end bogged downward, rpm's went ridiculously high between 3-4 back and forth erratically, and the speedometer went to 0. . All that happened at once, made me officially realize, it has to all be a connected problem. Then I found this site, with so many people having these same issues, for so long. . How in god's name is this pos not recalled?? I can't even in good conscience choose someone to die by selling this thing to them, I still owe so much money on it. There's so many stories of people randomly steering, and accelerating full throttle in various directions and any given time. What demonized transformer of a vehicle did I buy? how are these things still on the road? how many people have to die before chevy owns up to this deadly hunk of metal they sold to us? please recall ASAP. I literally can't sell it to anyone. It's going to kill someone! at this year, there can't be many more on the road since they keep crashing. Recall the ones that are left.
Acceleration is weak, possible fumes and emissions.
Lock cylinder gets stuck and prevents vehicle from being started. Only after several minutes of jiggling the lock mechanism does the key turn. The steering wheel lock also does not engage.
Ignition : key gets stuck in ignition. Ignition switch is faulty.
As I turn the ignition to start the car, smoke comes out of columns between column and steering wheel.
My family with a newborn and I was going to get ice cream at a establishment. Mind you it was a very hot day, and upon leaving we couldn't leave because the key wouldn't turn over. The key was stuck in the lock position only. I believe the ignition cylinder isn't any good.
Engine was running with vehicle in park, and I was able to pull the key right out of the ignition with no resistance.
Seat belt light is on when driver is buckled, abs and traction control light came on, replaced brakes and front drivers side wheel bearing, bearing was previously replaced 3/2014. Have had to replace wheel bearings and struts in the front about every 6 months. Just replaced front passenger side in 3/2015. Today same noise coming from front end, need front passenger side bearing replaced after 2 months.
I have been in contact with Chevrolet on this. This auto has a branded title and has a faulty ignition switch. The key comes out when the car is running. We did not own the car when it was damaged so I don't know what caused that accident. I do know that there was very little damage to it. They are telling me they won't cover replacement of the switch because it has a branded title. I feel this says that my life is not as important and the person with a new vehicle. I have always been a Chevrolet person and have had brand new ones so this is very disappointing to me. Can anything be done about this?.
I went to get my inspection sticker and received an safety/emissions recall sheet of paper indicating that I might have a problem with this defect number: 2529, engine family:5gmxv02. 2025, emission problem: some engine control modules or power train control modules have potentially damaged integrated circuits. This may cause the egr system to malfunction or cause the fuel pump to turn off or the turbo system to malfunction. This is exactly what a mechanic has told me about the egr system. If you could please let me know what I can do about this issue as soon as possible and if it is covered or if I can get it repaired at no cost to me. I have only owned this vehicle for 1 year since March 1, 2014. I'm the second owner.
Check engine like on. Engine temperature too low causing the heat not to work. Replaced thermostat and seals.
While driving at various speeds, we experience severe resistance in the brake pedal, pedal would pulsate and then braking system would make a noise, but you could not stop unless you stood on the pedal with all you body weight. Then the abs and traction control light would illuminate stating that the systems were disengaged and the braking system would work normally. Unfortunately, every time you start the car you experience the same thing, until the system disengages you cannot stop quickly. This happens at any speed. The dealership seems to have no solution to this problem.
I've had my used 2005 chevy Equinox for less than a year and have not had any problems with it until yesterday. I had driven 32 miles to visit a relative and parked the car for the rest of the evening. The following day, I went to take a ride with my family, and the reduced engine power and check engine lights went on and the car didn't want to drive normal. I did a diagnostic scan and p0700, p1125, p2125, and p2138 codes came up!.
Can not turn the ignition key. I have had the ignition cylinder replaced for the second time in the 2005 Equinox. I was told that it was me and my problem by the dealer.
In late June I started to notice a musty smell every time I entered my car. However after searching for the source I could find nothing as the smell continued to lingure and become worse. Then when cleaning out the vehicle for vacation I discovered a buildup of water in the spare tire compartment, the padding between the body and tire was completely saturated with water. I have no idea how this occurred but quickly turned to the internet to search for a recall, only to find numerous complaints about the same problem with no answer as to how to stop the issue.
Front driver door will not open from the inside.
I had to have my battery replaced today. My battery had to be replaced due to the ignition switch that is not completely turned off when I put the car in park. For a year or so I have been able to drive down the road and my cars key has been removable from the ignition switch. I have asked about the ignition switch before to my dealership over the years with no resolve. Since the recall of other gm models during the same year my car was made recently I have read over these issues and my Equinox is having the same issue. I do not have to put my car in park for the key to be taken out of the ignition switch. Now my battery is being compromised due to it not completely being able to shut off.
The key fails sometimes to turn in the ignition cylinder, went to mechanic, ignition switch needs replacement.
When the car is in park and keys are out of the iginition the car still thinks the key is in the ignition or the car does not recognize it is in park. The car is in park and key is out of ignition, you can still move the steering wheel without the wheel locking and the drivers side door lock does not lock when this is happening. Sometime the steering wheel will lock and that is when the door lock works again. Most of the time the steering while does not lock when in park or ignition is turned off. This is a scary issues with all current recalls of key locks and possibly not the car does not know the vehicle is off and locks are not working. Thank you!.
Ignition switch has problems - the key will not go in at all, or partially goes in and gets stuck, goes in fully and gets stuck, or comes out while the engine is still running. Currently the key will not go in rendering the car totally inoperable. The car is hard to start at times - it takes several tries to get it to turn over, even though I have regular maintenance done. The headlights may or may not go to high beam and the dash lights may or may not turn on at all. There is constant fluctuation. Due to the countless complaints I have read with regard to the same problems I believe that this fact alone should mandate an instant recall. I am disabled and this is my only means of transportation to my doctors for frequent treatments the cost to repair my vehicle is not within my reach.
Key can be removed when ignition is not off . Can and does fall out while driving vehicle no matter what gear the selector shift is in ( including park).
February of 2014 I spent 1011. 48 to replace a gasket between the engine block and the radiator, which I was told was made of plastic. This was suppose to solve the overheating of my engine, however the problem did not stop and I am being told that the heater core now needs to be replaced which will cost me another $800-$900. In all the complaints written by other owners this seems to be a common issue with the Equinox. I have no heat in the vehicle, the front defrost only fogs the windshield and it consistently overheats which in turn activates the fan which I suspect will stop work soon due to overworking. This is my only means of transportation for me and my children and is a danger in the winter months. I honestly love this truck, but if this a common problem or recall issue it need to be remedied now.
I can start my car and then pull the key out of the ignition while the car is still running. This issue started in November of last year (2013) and my Equinox only has 40,000 miles on it.
Head on accident into ditch, airbags did not go off.
