The ignition gets hung up and wont allow to start or move ignition switch to turn off unless you giggle it around. This problem is sometimes helped by going to the dealer and getting a new key. This wears out in a few months and the problem returns.
I have had an ignition problem with this vehicle for approximately a year or more. When I put key in ignition, I have a hard time getting it to turn to start vehicle. And then, when I want to turn car off, it is difficult to remove key from ignition. I took to chevy dealer in kenosha, WI and was told that my vehicle is not on recall list and I would have to pay for it myself. I just wonder with all these recalls going on with chevy for the same issue that I am having with my chevy, why they won't fix it and cover expenses? please help!.
Key comes out of the ignition while the car is running, can take the key in and out out of the ignition while the car is driving, does not turn the car off. Also sometimes the steering wheel does not lock and prevents you from being able to start the car.
I bought this Equinox in March 2013. Whenever it rains I have standing water in the floor in the front and back floors. There is also moisture on the inside of the windows. I have seen online that this is a common problem. Can anything be done about this?.
We had several inches of rain, I went to get in my car from work to go home and the car was an inch deep in the floor boards. I could not tell where this water actually came from. I was very upset, this was after 5:00 pm on a Friday so needless to say I did not call insurance company until the following week. I had not left any windows down because it had rained all week. I spoke with a Chevrolet dealer not the dealer I bought the car new from, they are no longer in business. He informed me that we needed to gut the car and dry it out first in order to determine where the water was leaking in at. I spoke with my ins. Agent and asked would this be covered and she did not know. She called her state farm office and returned a call back to me. She stated that an adjuster in the office told her that my insurance would pay for the drying out of my car, but would not pay for the mechanical issue. I was given a claim no. I called the adjuster and she set up a rental car and told me that the check would be payable to me and I would pay the dealership. This was on a Wednesday, on Friday I received a call from the agent who stated to me that they would not pay anything because this vehicle was known for multiple leaks. I was told one thing then another. I was very frustrated and called gm to complain to them that it should have been a recall if this was an issue with this model. They were going to call me back and never another word from them. I explained to ins. And to gm, and also to the insurance commission that this was a hazard on the road due to the fact that the car was fogging up from inside and I had ice on the inside of the car due to cold weather. I would like to know if you can help me with this ongoing problem. I am sending all documentation regarding this issue. ## VIN passed ##.
Cpsc: i12c0328a. 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer stated that headlight lenses on various newer vehicles made from the clear plastic fades and becomes cloudly and is no longer safe.
When I would try to start the car the starter would stick and just keep turning over and over, and would not start, when I finally got it to start I would be driving down the road the rpm's would shoot up between 3 and 6 and drop to 0 in a matter of seconds and everything in the car would shut down, this is while I am driving down the road in the middle of traffic. I had to pull over and set there until it decided to start, sometimes it took awhile and others it would start right up. This has happened over and over to many times to count, this car is very dangerous, I could have been hurt very badly. Also the key would stick in the ignition and would not turn I would have to get out of the car and rock it back and forth in order for it to turn to start the car. I had everything possible done to this car that the mechanic could possibly think of, even a new computer and thousands of dollars later it is still doing the same thing. There is something really bad wrong with the car and it need to be fixed. I am tired of putting out money and it not being resolved. Have paper work on all the work done to the car. More then 1 mechanic has looked at it and they are still scratching there heads!.
The key becomes loose in the ignition and came out while car was on or in motion. Spent over $400 to repair it and now gm has made a major recall in the area but not on the 2005 Equinox. I had it repaired in or around November 2013.
You can't always turn the key it just wont turn you have t keep trying and hope you can get it to turn. Thought it might be the key so I tried the other key that came with the car same thing some times it will work and other times you have keep trying and the key will come half way out of the ignition.
Key sometimes won't turn, key can be pulled out of ignition while driving down the road, ignition will chew up or eat the key.
I bought a 2005 chevy Equinox in March with less than 38,000 miles. The ac never really got cold. I called gm as well as looking @ blogs on the internet. It seemed like a common problem. They only used this compressor for one year in any vehicle. I wrote a nice little letter explaining that my 2005 Equinox with not quit 43,000 miles on it had a ac compressor problem. I am the 2nd owner of this car and it was explained this way from the start. I received a very nice call from an ann @ gm, her number is 1-866-790-5600 x32738. I went through my problem very carefully and explained that it was diagnosed from a trusted mechanic. She understood but told me it had to be looked at by a chevy dealership. I continued to let her know I paid for this diagnosis once and really didn’t want to pay over again. I called back a few times to make sure it would be worth my time and money. I was pretty much assured that if it was a defective part that gm would help out so I started to call the local dealers. I started @ 7:30am this morning, I called roger dean of cape coral, FL, the victory layne in fort myers and then palm auto mall in punta gorda. All service managers where busy so I went to roger dean @ 8am to find that gary herrmann was on vacation and no one could help me. I did get a call back from a bob pilgrim from palm auto mall in punta gorda and said he would see me at 1pm. Palm auto mall is almost an hour away and 31. 5 miles from me. I arrived and the service there was great, after about 1 and a half hours bob pilgrim asked me in his office to let me know that the policy is and always has been and that they make no exceptions, that the 2nd owner doesn’t get and help in this kind of case and yes the compressor was gone with no real reason why it would go in such a short time (mileage). I asked why I wasn’t told this I was talking to ann and that she was encouraging me to go to a chevy dealer mr. Pilgrim agreed that I should have been told of this.
Sometimes it is hard turning the ignition switch to the on position - once there, the key comes out of the ignition switch while driving.
I have been having this issue for a few years now. When I put the key in the ignition and go to turn key over, the key will not turn. I have to sit there and wiggle up and down and back and forth to get the key to finally turn so I can start the car. No one else can drive my car, because no one else can figure out how to get the key to turn over. Also, my keys come out of the ignition while car is in the on or off position. I have been having this issue for over a year now. I have been following the recalls on the gm and chevy vehicles and believe I am having the same ignition issue as the other recalled vehicles. I have talked with customer service at GMC about this issue but they have not been able to help me. There has not been a recall on the 2005 chevy Equinox yet.
Over heating. Heat blowing hot and cold and ignition switch issues.
The ignition on my vehicle literally eats my key. I have had to replace my key several times because eventually key won't start vehicle. Also after wear of new key, the key comes out of ignition while vehicle is running.
Front and back windows fog up and defrost does nothing. Visibility is severely limited and this creates very dangerous driving conditions. Nothing helps to alleviate the issue. I have tried wiping the windshield, cleaning it, alcohol, rain x, defrost, hot air, cold air, windows down, windows up, sunroof halfway open, doing back flips and nothing helps. Been happening for years. Had numerous repairs under warranty starting 3 months, 3,500 miles after I drove it off the lot in 2005 and have spent close to $8,500 on repairs after warranty expired at 50,000. Transmission dropped, a/c repaired 2x, solenoids & sensors replaced, windshield wiper leak, radiator replaced 2x, struts, calipers, now, amongst all the other issues I've had with this vehicle, the a/c-heat knob no longer turns, glove box lid just fell down one day b/c the latch suddenly broke, have to get my brake calipers & another wheel hub replaced for the 4th time, water still leaks through the map lights, I could go on.
Equinox wqas on a recall previous owner recibved notice ,I never did, I have been pursuing this matter for over 7 years, given to the run-around by chevy can at -1800-222-1020.
6 disc changer is jammed and producing an error message. Will not eject or load cds. Chevy dealership said it is unfixable, recommended replacing it with an aftermarket unit. Tech acknowledged the recurring complaints similar to mine. Problem still exist. I am hesitating to replace with another factory unit. Very frustrating, based on other online complaints and forums voicing their complaints of the same issue. Again, seems like a factory/manufacturing defect that will fall onto the shoulders of the consumer. Thanks gm.
I contacted Chevrolet early on about this problem to no avail, they claimed it is not covered. Yet, online I was able to see that numerous consumers had the same problem. Recently, it seemed that gm was recalling vehicles with a similar ignition problem. I contacted them and was told my vehicle is not covered simply because it does not shut off. This was all done over the phone which is an amazing diagnostic tool they have. I was advised to take my vehicle to a dealer service technician and have them check it out. When asked what the cost would be, I was advised that would be normal service fees which is a waste of money since it would be cheaper to repair it at my mechanic without any dealer diagnostic fees. Its definitely a manufacture defect yet no one will admit it.
Driviving on freeway doing 70 miles a hour. Key fell out of ignition and car kept going. Pulled over and put key back in and found I could remove the key at anytime the car is running and I could put it in any gear with key pulled out after the car is started.
I can pull the ignition key for my 2005 out of the ignition or it can fall out while the car is driving down the road. The keys wear out. This has been happening since the car was about 2 years old. I bought it new in April 2004. I discovered this when I accidentally knocked the key out (fortunately directly into my hand so I was able to reinsert it quickly. ) I have to replace keys about 2 years because they always wear out. So far nothing has happened when this occurs but I am petrified that the car will shut off which will lock up the steering, etc. I don't intentionally take the key out while driving, but what if it falls out? it's so loose in the ignition that it could. I know I am not the only Equinox owner with this problem. I contacted gm when it first happened. Their reaction was basically, "OH well, try a new key. " I did, and the dealer ripped me off for a whole bunch of money to "program" keys that don't need to be programmed (I didn't find this out until a couple years later when I bought the next set of keys online and didn't need to program them. ) now, I just buy keys on line when the old ones wear out. Given the problems gm had with ignitions in this time span, I think this should be looked at closely. Who knows what problems (deaths?) may have or will occur because if it. I have always been a bit afraid of this problem, and now am even more so.
