general problems of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

The ecm in my vehicle appears to have an intermittent failure that can cause it to send the vehicle into wot at any time at random. I was stopped at a traffic signal. It turned green, I let off the brake and my vehicle learched forward for a second, and then, all of a sudden launched into and hit the vehicle in front of me. I tried to push down the brakes, but they were too stiff, and, no, my foot did not even get a chance to press the gas yet. There was only minor damage to my vehicle, however, the situation was extremely scary. I have since changed out the ecm and have had no issues since. I have seen this issue once before on a similar vehicle, except, what happened with that is the vehicle was in a garage, and the ecm had failed nearly completely and stuck the vehicle in wot. In my case, I was still able to drive the vehicle home, so the issue appeared to me intermittent. I still have the original ecm for further investigation. As I understand it, this ecm is in thousands of gm vehicles, across multiple lines. Gm part number: 12611090.

Everytime my vehicle is exposed to water by rain or car wash. It goes into low power mode or limp mode only accelerating to like 30mph. I was told there is water getting somewhere is shouldnt causing a short. Im not the only one with this problem . Ive read on several forums. I was just on the freeway recently and it rained for about 5 minutes here in fresno California which is extremely unusual because it is still summer and the vehicle did this while I was driving. I could've caused an accident I had to pull over and stop driving. I turned off and on the car several times and the low power mode finally went away, and also the service stabilitrak system. Chevy is aware of this problem and they need to fix before somebody gets hurt.

Engine overheating "stationary and in motion" seems to be a common problem with most 2006 and above. I replaced the thermostat, the water pump, I performed a radiator flush, replaced the ect sensor, and still the car over heats. I did a compression test and it's fine, I checked the head gaskets and they are fine. The oil looks fine, the radiator fluid looks fine. I went through a car wash after replacing the water pump, thermostat, and ect sensor. The car still over heats, both at idle and after driving 2 miles or 10 miles. I've been told it's either an electrical issue, a radiator issue, or engine electrical issue. I can not keep putting money into a car that is only worth $2,500. Many other people I have noticed posted the same issue of over heating and nothing is being done about it. It should be a chevy recall, and repaired by the manufacturer. Here is an example of 1 other complaint:. . . . . . . . On November 17th the vehicle started to tell me that it was overheating and to turn a/c off. A/c was not even on because it was cold and the heat was blowing cold air. The vehicle then told me while I was trying to get to a safe location to pull over that the engine power was reduced and the vehicle stated to crawl along the road. When the vehicle was looked at where I pulled over there was minimal oil in the vehicle and it had blow coolant all over the driver side wheel well from what looked like the overflow tube. Oil was put in the vehicle so that I could drive it to a safe location. On November 18th I went to start the vehicle to go to work and without going any place but sitting in the driveway it started to tell me that the engine was overheating and to turn a/c off. The vehicle was towed. The dealership that I use worked on it and replaced the temp control and thermostat and did a complete oil change. Many other Equinox owners are having same issue.

My 2007 chevy Equinox instrument panel has been acting up here recently and the speedometer goes to 120mph and stays there. You can't tell how fast you are going. That is a safety issue. The gas gauge n temperature gauge will go to the top like full or hot or not move at all. Could burn an engine up or run out of gas. Recall was done I heard but not on all 2007equinox vehicles and it should have included all. There are a lot still on the road. I am asking for safety reasons to include all 2007 chevy Equinox vehicles to be recalled and fixed by gm. It is very expensive to have repaired at a shop or at the dealer. If I was able to do myself I would but I'm not a mechanic or do I know electrical so I'm not doing it. I want it done by a professional and I am pleading that all 07 chevy Equinox vehicles be included and a new recall be sent out to all 2007 owners. That is before someone gets hurt. Not knowing the speed you ate going is unsafe. It gas been going on now since December 2019 and now its everyday. The gauges might work one day then not work for 3 days then work again for one day. It needs to recalled ASAP. Doesn't matter if vehicle is moving or parked. It will ho up 120mph and stay there for days.

The instrument cluster in my 2007 chevy Equinox LS all the gauges stop working then I'll start working and you don't know if your car is overheating you don't know how much gas you have or how fast you're going the odometer stuck at 1:20 some days that'll work some days it don't and I believe they had a recall on this but only some cars were affected when they should have recalled all of them and replace the stepper motors on all 2007 Equinoxes not just some I've been dealing with this now for too long as they said it was very expensive to get it repaired well with all the complaints I seen online I feel that they should have recalled it and fixed all of them there still a lot of 07 on the road and it's a safety hazard my wife refuses to drive the car cuz she doesn't know how fast she's going and I'm about to that point now I don't know how much gas I got sometimes I don't know if the car is hot or if I'm going to run out of gas I do use the trip function on every tank of gas I have to my I really think this needs to be taking a look at an all o sevens recalls on the stepper motors replaced or somebody gets killed somebody may panic think they're going 120 or think that their cars going to stop and they could get into serious accident because the gauges aren't working and it just startled them this problem started after I purchase the vehicle used and the guy told me that he noticed it a couple times on the odometer well it's slowly developed into all the gauges now.

I don't know if it's a takata inflator, but there was a recall for the 2007 chevy Equinox, but, for some reason the recall did not have my wife's car's VIN # regarding this recall. So, her car did not receive a recall notice! what I'm upset about is, that she has low mileage on her car, and had the same problem, just recently, and it's the same model and year, regarding the recall, that did not involve her car! I was told by gm, that because her VIN # was not "in" the recall, that there was nothing that they could do, but if I wanted to, because it's a safety problem, that I could contact you! and "then" if you told them that it was a safety problem, which it is, that you could then, get in touch with gm, and they would take care of it! so, what can be done, this shouldn't be like this!!! please help us take care of this safety problem on my wife's 2007 chevy Equinox if you would please! regarding the note below, my wife was simply driving, and the air bag light came on, and that was it. When I got in touch with gm, they did tell me that there "was" a recall on this, but because my wife's Equinox did not fall into their recall VIN #, that there was nothing that they could do! if it was a different model, year, etc. Then I could understand of course, but not when it's the same car, and model, that they recalled!!! thank you for your assistance, in any way!.

I got this car from frederi k auto center in March. Ever since then I had problems. I told them I let them. Knkw about them and they always said nothing was wrong with it. The one time they were supoose to fix something they had the car for two days and rhey put tape all over the hoses ro stop the leaks. They also failed the MD inspection considering my wires are melted together and my ignition doesnt work right which wouldnt have pass. Then they repo it when I wqsnt late on my payemnt because I said I want it fixed sinxe it was sols that way or I will file a compalint. Everything qas illegal thatbthey did.

I notice while my wife was driving no side breaklights but center light came on. I have changed the bulbs and checked fuses and still no brake lightsni.

My key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. I literally have to turn my car on and off, move the shifter in and out of park, shake the shifter, take my foot off of the brakes, at least 10-15 times before the ignition will release the key. I tried to make an appt with a chevy dealership when this problem went public and they cancelled me because my vehicle was not part of the recall. I talked to a representative shakevia with Chevrolet chat and she said that I would have to be responsible for all of the diagnosis and repair fees since my vehicle is not included with the recall. I looked at the recall list and all the vehicles that are on there, the year of my vehicle fits in every single column.

On two occasions the power steering has gone out while I started my car. Each time this occurred I was unable to steer the vehicle. It was very dangerous to drive as it was very difficult to make right and left hand turns.

When turning off the vehicle the key will not release from the ignition and can not be removed. After about 30 seconds you can hear a click and then the key will release and can be removed, but until you hear the click it can not be removed from the ignition.

The vehicle has stable track link error and will not go away! parts have been replaced, both aftermarket and swapped for genuine gm and still the service engine soon light is on. The fuel gauge doesn't work properly and will just at random show over the full mark or under the empty mark when I have purchased fuel on the same day. The throttle body had to be replaced at 45,000 miles when the vehicle suddenly lost power and just sat on a busy road.

The driver side window stopped working along with the driver side door lock switch. They both stopped working at the same time.

I have multiple issues currently and they all seem to be listed on other complaints. 1. The driver side window has completely stopped working. It seems to have become disconnected to the motor as I can hear the motor going up and down within the door. 2. Stabilitrak warning and engine light are constantly turning on and off. This has happened on and off over the past year or so but the dealership could not get a reading from the computer. Now it has been on for the past 2 weeks constantly 3. The temperature gauge in the instrument panel does not work. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the thermostat a few days later the gauge went haywire again. It gets worse when I fill up with gas and tends to mirror the gas gauge reading most of the time. 4. The key will not come out of the ignition when turning off the car. This is extremely frustrating. I put the car in park, turn the key off, the engine turns off but the key will not come out of the ignition. Have to turn car back on, put it in and out of park, turn the wheel, back up, drive forward or just sit and wait a few minutes and it comes out. 5. Occasionally the electronics go crazy - the turn signals won't work and the radio shuts down. It makes a sound when it does this as well, like a clicking noise but it only lasts for a few seconds and I can't figure out what causes it.

The driver side front window stopped working then months later the switch that tells the bcm the door is open or closed failed and the radio doesn't. Shut off and the dome lights don't come on when exiting the vehicle.

Took my 2007 Equinox to dealership where I but it in may of 2007 to tell them about passenger side airbag not working correctly when certain individuals luke myself were sitting in passenger seat and I was told nothing they could do that I just needed to carry a gallon of water on my lap because I was to small. Fyi I weigh 120. Also the key keeps getting stuck in the ignition I think this is very unsafe along with the airbag. Would like a response ASAP my Equinox only has 42000 miles .

After parking car and turning key to turn off engine I can't get the key out the car. Issue happens a few times a week and sometimes happens all day. Sometimes you have to sit and wait or restart car and drive around and then park to get key out. I have seen the issue reported on multiple sites and forums yet gm still hasn't issued a recall.

Sometimes the ignition freezes up and does not allow you to remove the key. Although this doesn't happen every time it happens enough to be a concern. If in a mall parking lot it could render one in a dangerous position of not being able to take the key out of the ignition. I usually have to wait several minutes, up to 20, before the ignition will release the key.

Ignition key will not come out once the car is turned off and put into park. I have read numerous complaints concerning this problem and no-one can tell if this happens because of the key cylinder or because of gear shift not properly going into park.

Speedometer went from 40 to 120 miles an hour. And tack was stuck at 1 1/2 mark. Could not tell what speed I was actually going. On a 2007 Equinox LS.

Detected smell of gasoline while parked among many other cars. Did not think much of it until at home detected smell of gasoline inside and out of the vehicle. Look around and saw gas dripping from the rear passenger side of car. Check under the car and it seemed like gas leaking from the top of the gas tank. Took vehicle to dealer and agreed on repair. Dealer had previously said cost would be approximately 500 dollars. When vehicle was at the garage I was told over 900 dollars to repair. I agreed, hoping there would eventually be a recall, since I had read of many complains on line. I was able to get the labor charged refunded to me. A few months later I received a safety recall notice. The letter specifically says "your 2007 model year Chevrolet Equinox, VIN xxx is involved in safety recall 12190. Etc. When to dealer, and the service guy say "your vehicle does not show any open recalls and that only certain one have that fuel pump module recall. I told him "look at the letter" but I got nowhere. True I had the vehicle repaired, but the letter mentions a refund. Plus, did I get the right replacement part or some other generic part? so why does my letter say your. . . . Is involved in safety recall. . Yet the dealer's system says "no" to this recall. By the way I did buy it in California and it's register also at California.
