general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

When I turn off my Chevrolet Equinox and leave the key in the ignition the vehicle attempts to restart itself numerous times. The lights on the dash all come on for a brief moment and you can hear it act like it’s going to start but then everything cuts off a second later. This has occurred everytime I turn my vehicle off and do not remove the key. I am always sitting in the vehicle when the key is in the ignition.

My 2010 chevy Equinox timing chain is bad and leaks oil had the car no longer then a year this is a known issue in the chevy Equinox I have done my research and bad timing chain is one of the number 1 problems in these cars and there have been recalls on bad timing chains I am a single mother of 4 kids trying to get by and this is my only car I have its stalls on me all the time and there are many times it will not stay running at all I am asking to please pay to have it fix or pay half its a beautiful car its sad to know this is a known factor in these cars to have bad timing chains and piston rings on the motor but I am more worry about the timing chain I do not have $1200 to $1800 for a new timining or car please help.

The automotive trouble code p2135 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch a/b voltage correlation refers to a problem related to the throttle's ability to open and close properly. . . . A throttle position sensor (tps) is situated opposite the throttle linkage connection on the throttle plate. Was driving down the road when an alarm went off on my dash saying a sensor was bad. Next thing the car said losing power to engine and my car started shaking and decelerating.

I bought my used 2010 chevy Equinox from the dealer, and 2 weeks later the service stabilitrak light came on. Took it to the dealer, they did an alignment and the same day the light came back on with traction control light. The next day I went to the grocery store, and when I tried to start it to leave it wouldn't start. After 2 tries, it finally started but then the reduced engine power light came on and wouldn't go above 25 mph. Eventually the vehicle powered down and I had to pull over for a tow truck to come. The chevy dealer said it was the main timing chain (not covered) and something else in the engine but I would have to pay for labor to disassemble it. My car has been out of service and sitting at the dealer for now 10 days. Luckily I wasn't on the highway when this happened, and decided to go to the store before heading to work. Carfax reports indicate the timing chain and fuel pump was replaced at 40,000 miles already. I see a lot of people with this problem in much scarier situations. I believe this should be a recall before something happens.

Vehicle is burning astronomical amounts of oil, even when car is sitting. Car runs rough and idles and acts as if it will stall out. The abs and traction control lights have come on. Car acts like it won't start and takes a few times before it actually starts up. Have replaced so many parts and of course at 155,000 miles for a 2010 Equinox we don't qualify under the pending lawsuit. Car is parked because it uses so much oil.

I bought this truck but they are saying they fixed stuff that nobody has touched. Attached will be their recall. And second a photo showing nobody fixed it, little lone touched it for repair. Scamming customers. I cannot get my tires to sync to the vehicle either. Both safety.

My car started itself when the key was in my pocket and I was at the rear of the car unloading. I do not have a keyless entry or starting feature on my car. I was parked at our community garden and my daughter and I were unloading garden tools, so we were touching the car and felt it when it fired up. It was an underwear changing moment.

Car slowed down during driving, I pulled over and tried to change gears; unable to do so, I called the pick up truck, after they checked the car they said the problem was the transmission and I should call the dealer because of the low millage and that the transmission fluid was full.

My check engine light would come on and then turn off after a couple days this happen for a few months and then now it's on permanently I checked with onstar and had them run a test and it says my emissions control system is in trouble I do not understand because I use good fuel I maintain my oriole and my maintenance on my vehicle at all times and it is a fairly new Equinox I should not be having this problem.

My 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is burning oil very fast. I have had a mechanic at my work check the oil level every Thursday for the last month and add approximately 1. 5 litres every Thursday. My CO-worker had the same issue with her Equinox and it was a recall. Her oil was going into her fuel. This is clearly an issue that seems to be reoccurring. Before realizing that the oil was an issue, my car would automatically shut off while driving- sometimes in the middle of the intersection.

The ac is giving me issues and I have seen many people complain about this issues with the ac breaking broke after certain mileages!.

I filed a complaint 4 days ago #11182292. I've contacted gm and they have no recall on my specific vehicle. There was a recall #090298 done for the exact problem I'm experiencing. Neither the dealer nor gm seems willing to include my car in this recall. I'm a senior citizen living on a fixed income. I'm taking the car to the dealer for diagnosis today. I'm asking for help paying for this if it is diagnosed with the same problem as the vehicles that were recalled. All the items listed on that particular recall # are identical type identical to what I'm experiencing. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

The climate control system intermittently blows either high heat or no heat at all. I found a safety recall # 090298 for this specific problem and called my dealer. They have no recall for this and won't fix it for no cost unless they can find a recall! if you need more information please advise. Thank you in advance for your assistance. This happens of course when in motion no matter what type of street or highway I'm on.

A year after I purchased my used Equinox my water pump went out. While at the dealership they realize that my opinions have been worn and my timing chain needed to be replaced. Less than 6 months after my engine light popped on. . This car has been unreliable almost the whole time I've owned it. Last March I replace the timing chain again. After much research I realize that my timing chain keeps getting destroyed because the high pressure fuel pump is leaking gas into my crankcase. Chevy has put out a recall for my make and model vehicle but my VIN is not listed. I'm not sure why it wouldn't be listed especially since I am experiencing the same symptoms that is listed in the bulletin.

I have a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox mileage 078815 ,yesterday while out running errands and had stopped at several locations in town . I had no warning at last stop . I got back in SUV and it started up ok and got ready to back out of parked spot shifted to reverse car would not move backward or forward but gear shift moved to all location but SUV would not . Had to get it towed home.

Sabilitrak, powertrain, throttle came on again paid $457. 90 1/25/2016. Ac & heating unit not working clicking sound replaced 8/26/2015, key is stuck in ignition, no lights, car not mobile (now).

I recently bought this vehicle use it was wondering why the owner got rid of it now I know. There is obviously a problem with the hill assist on this vehicle and I have seen complaints on the form that other people have had the same problem and not known what it was. The problem I'm having is when the hill assiat engage's it will not disengage like it's supposed to. I actually had to have a mechanic reset the whole computer to get it to disengage the other day and remove the battery terminal today to get a disengaged. I even called the dealer today at they weren't aware of any problems they had no idea what I was talking about convenient. Several mechanics know but the dealer doesn't want to acknowledge the problem and they want me to pay to have it diagnosed. I've already diagnosed it, I just want toknow what the fix is. According to every mechanic of spoke to its in the computer programming and there is no fix. I will have on this vehicle for weeks and it's already happened to me 5 times.

As I was approaching to a stop light my truck began to shake and vibrate as it was trying to shut itself down. As the light turned and and I tried to push the gas peddle, the car went a little then stopped. I cranked the key again, started, then shut off. Now this has happened before my the truck would start back up and drive again. You can hear this weird rattling noise and while driving I was always cautious not knowing if my car would just stop randomly, or it if was just a fluke. No fluke. I see many people with the same issues and gm needs to be held responsible! I drive with my 3 and 4 year old daily, as well as taking my client's to and from appointments and running errands. Just feel so violated that a car was sold to me knowing the pre historic conditions.

My catalytic converter went out with less than 100,000 miles on the car. There is a service bulletin for this issue, but my car does not fit in the "build date window" although the bulletin covers the year and engine type.

My engine light comes on I take car to gm dealer and they tell me I need a catalytic converter, they didn't tell me that there was a special service cover for the part, when I called them back about it the tell me that me car was out of the mile part of the coverage and that it would have to pay for it myself, I call gm and spoke to a lady name adrea and she informs me the same thing I told her I never received any thing in the mail concerning is coverage, she said the mailed them out March 2017, I asked if she was able to tell if there was one sent to my address she could not. This part is should have never be a special service coverage, because it is a environment issues, this car is 7 years old. So I have been going back and forth trying to get gm to fix this.

Timing chian expanded causing check engine light on and fog on front winshield in the morning and at times during the day.

Car vibrates vigorously at speeds between 10-25 mph. Hard to control in city driving.

2010 chevy Equinox (53k miles). Vehicle was being driven on a city street and while in drive failed to accelerate. Vehicle began to jerk while in motion and would not shift in reverse. The engine ran but the could would not move. All of the diagnostic codes reflected the transmission.

While driving the engine speeds up but the car will not move almost like it is out of gear. . It revs and then will be ok and back to normal speed and I was on a surface street. No one was behind me. Luck for me. At times makes a high pitched sound while this is happening. The nearest dealer is not 20 miles from my home. I am afraid to drive this vehicle.

Since I purchased this vehicle, I constantly get a "service airbag" message on my dashboard. I have notified the dealer as well as gm/chevorlet by phone and was told that unfortunately there is no recall for this. I took my car to the dealer in which I purchased and since they did not see the message they said there is nothing they can do. I fear (god forbid) being in an accident and the airbag does not deploy. I do travel with my children in which one of the 3 is a toddler. Is there anything that can be done. - also which is very annoying my key gets stuck in the ignition. Now I have 2 sets of keys one gets stuck more than the other, but there are times where I have to spend hours trying to remove it - I took it to the dealer but once again was told nothing is wrong with this. I have seen numerous videos and forums with the same complaint. Needles to say I would never purchase a chevy again! too many issues for a car that I've only had a few years.

Four times within the last two months the stabile symbol, check engine symbol, and reduced engine power alert have come on. The first time happened when I was parking, the 2nd time when I let the car warm up, the 3rd time when I was doing 60mph on the expressway and the 4th time when I had gone about 5 blocks on a city street. Each time I was driving, the car slowed down and became hard to control. I was able to get off the road and cut off the engine. After sitting for about 5 minutes, the reduced power alert went off and I was able to drive. The check engine light stayed on. After about a day the check engine light went out. The car will run ok for a day or two and then start to act up again. I was told that it probably has something to do with the gas medal, however the dealer hasn't been able to detect a code. I am concerned that I will be on the highway going at a high speed when it happens and not be able to get out of the way of other traffic.

Intermittent loss of system heat. Blower works but blows frigid air into cabin and onto windshield causing frosting and safety issue. Controls do not work to correct issue. Actuator doors either don't move or move randomly. No change in blower air. Air temp feels like below zero. No warning of change from hot to cold air. Vehicle can be stationary, in motion, highway speeds, side street speeds, turning, straight, it doesn't matter. In going to destination heat stopped and cold air blew. This has been a recurring issue for about 2 years. Dealer says not coding or storing codes. Main computer doesn't sense the problem. Actuators recalibrated on Friday, it reoccurred on Saturday. There is a recall on the control system brain but dealer unwilling to do repairs. 2010 and 2011 were the worst years for issues in these vehicles. Many complaints of the same issues. Dealer says they can't fix it if it doesn't display codes according to my almost $4000 warranty service contract. I love my Equinox but I need it fixed and working. Brought it into dealer on Friday, intake person actually felt the frigid air coming from blower. No amount of flipping switches, turning knobs or pushing buttons correct this issue. Still they don't fix it because of no codes. I say main computer is malfunctioning because it doesn't sense the problem therefore it doesn't show codes. Dealer admits there is an issue, just don't know what it is. On a personal note, I am a cancer survivor and have many medical issues, I also transport young children in my vehicle. This issue is a health hazard to myself and them.

Wave plate the wave plate blew up in our transmission leaving us with a $5000 bill on a vehicle with only 76000 miles. The wave plate on 2010 chevy Equinox's has been recalled by specific VIN numbers by gm but for whatever reason my VIN is not on the recall list. It should be and I shouldnt be paying a 5000$ bill. Our vehicle came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway with my 2 year old and 4 year old in the car. My husband and a kind gentleman had to push the vehicle out of the roadway.

I purchased the car in sept. 2014. It was used. When I took it for it's first oil change I was told that it was completely empty of oil. I checked it again myself awhile later and it was dry again. I continued to check it and it loses oil fast. It's not leaking and it's doesn't seem to be burning it up. When I google oil loss Equinox 2010 I fould numerous complaints by others with the same problem. They are saying the only solution is a new engine. I have finally called the dealer and they are telling me they may not cover it under the warranty.

35r wave torque convertor/transmission - driving on the highway all of a sudden gas pedal would not accelerate no speed, check engine light came on. I almost got hit by a car and had to shift my car into neutral and glide it to the shoulder lane. Gm has known about the issue for quite a while with the wave plat torque convertor and transmission and has not taking responsibility for the recall. My car has very pristine and regular maintenance with only 70,000 miles on it. I am active duty and I do not want other lives to be in danger. There are many posts about the same issue duplicating my issue exactly the same and gm has not taken responsibility. There should be a recall. I was told I need a new transmission.

Oil consumption, everytime I get an oil change the car has burnt nearly half the oil that was put in the car in 3000 miles. Also my check engine light keeps coming on for a bad catalytic converter and I know several other Equinox owners that have the same issue.

Unable to take key out of ignition when turning engine off when stationary. Have to repeatedly restart engine and put in and out of gear to get the key to be released. Keeps happening intermittently. Need to carry extra key if unable to remove key from ignition in order to lock the doors.

On multiple occasions, when the car was stationary, it would not shift out of park after starting the car and releasing emergency brake. I would just hear this clicking noise near the key ignition when I tried to move it out of park. I've had the car in and out of service about 6 times from July - Dec 2015 because of this. First few times, the mechanics could not get the problem to duplicate. One of those times, they thought the battery caused it and said it needed to be replaced anyway bc it was weak - I did that. Another time, they said it was bc some stuff had spilled down in there where the shifter cables were, so they cleaned and rewired it. Still another time they said a computer part was sending weak signals, so they replaced that. The shifter assembly was replaced once, then again bc one of the parts was deemed defective. This last visit (Dec 2015), they said it was bad wiring from the ecm that caused it. Some of these service/diagnostic fees & the cost of towing have been waived or reimbursed, others have no. None of the issues specifically "related" to the shifter assembly were covered under warranty or recall. So as you can imagine, I have been out at least $500-700 over these last several months. Huge inconveniences - being stuck at work at the end of the day or at home as I'm ready to leave for work. I am planning to trade this car in within the next month or two. If it hadn't been for all of this, I would've loved the car. I was satisfied with everything else about it.

We were driving to the airport, came out of construction onto uphill part of highway. I was accelerating and heard a "pop". Thought a tire blew, saw white smoke on the sides of the car and pulled over. My boyfriend got out immediately to look for a blown tire. I put the car in park, shut off the ignition and black smoke began pouring into the car. I knew there was not a blown tire and yelled for boyfriend to help get our two young children out of the car. Opened the back door and couldn't see the kids due to all of the black smoke and entire front end was on fire within seconds. I got the kids to safety and the car proceeded to blow up three separate times in well under 10 minutes. The man driving behind us helped and stated to me that fuel was leaking from the car while he drove behind us prior to the "pop" we heard. It was a total loss, no police report despite highway being shut down for a hour and detectives showing up later. Insurance company wasn't going to investigate, I got gm involved and now they might. Was given a case # by gm, called twice, no response back for 6 days. I want to know the cause of this. 5 year old perfectly maintained cars with no warning should not catch fire and blow up. I saw an article about a man in connecticut with a similar incident and his was related to a regional recall that did not include that state. I live in western pennsylvania and question if this could be associated. The car could have killed our children and harmed innocent people on a busy highway. We were fortunate to have good people help us and react so quickly. The state police officer had us leave immediately to catch our flight and told us there was nothing we could do and they had the car towed. We were unable to get the names of two men that helped due to shock and belief that there would be a police report.
