general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

Incident occurred: June 30, 2015 a tractor trailer was passing another vehicle and proceeded to come into the left lane. I had cruise control engaged. The truck came over admittedly at a speed that was going slower than the rate of speed I had on my cruise control. When I went to apply the brake, I felt as though my car was not decelerating enough based on the pressure I was applying to the brake. I quick checked my side mirror- I was unable to go around the driver because a car was next to me and I checked my rearview mirror to ensure I was not going to be rear-ended as well- knowing I was too close and going to collide with the truck driver at this point. I applied as much pressure as I could to the brakes to decelerate but unfortunately still collided with the driver. My air bags did not deploy- despite this, it allowed me to see my mirrors immediately following the incident so that I could safely coast to the shoulder of the PA turnpike without disrupting traffic. My 2 concerns: was braking faulty when cruise control is engaged? also- my air bags did not deploy.

Engine started a fire. Destroyed our attached garage, the car and our daughters car. Heavy smoke damage in our house. Fire marshal and insurance inspected stated the fire started in the engine of the Equinox. We drove the car during day and then at 8:00pm came home from dinner. Around 12:15am heard noises in garage opened the door and front of engine was engulfed in flames. Called 911 and told family to get out of house.

After putting the key into the ignition, the key will not turn on or off and the key is now stuck in the ignition.

Heater will not heat at all. Blows cold air. Car is 2010 !!!.

Several months ago we took our car in for a $300 check up & complained that when we started it up it sounded like there was no oil. Didn't find anything wrong. Just about 10days ago another noise was heard. It got worse. Took it in & there was no oil on the dip stick. We just had the oil changed about a month or so ago. Oh yes at that time it kept leaking oil when parked. Took it back 3 times to have it corrected. Now they have sealed everything off & they will check the oil in 500 miles. May need pistons & rings. They tell me this is happening to the 2010 Equinox cars. Look up our record. We have been a number of times for other things. 1 part 3 times in 9 mths. Not happy at all.

Air compressor- has gone out and the cause for it was when I had a recall fixed. Chevrolet has stated they will not fix the issue and now as a college student I have to pay $1000 to have it fixed. I expected a reliable car and after more than 5 times in the shop I really wish I would have stuck with my 2001 vehicle which was more reliable than what this Equinox will ever be.

My wife was driving home from work to eat lunch as with any other day and all of a sudden the vehicle started shaking violently, the check engine light came on along with a "reduced engine power" message and an exclamation mark. I've done a ton of research and have seen this show up as a common issue with many gm models. I found the gm TSB 11273 that describes the exact condition we are having. Want to know the problem? my wife's 2010 Equinox isn't listed in the TSB!!! I do not understand this at all. I've called gm to explain the situation and they will hear nothing of it and are telling me they will not cover the expense. It makes no sense to me how they admit fault and pick of the cost of the exact same repair on other gm models but they will not pay for the repair on my vehicle for the exact same problem. This is a very dangerous issue and I couldn't even imagine having this issue at a high speed, luckily my wife was only driving in town. This is unacceptable. To make things worse, the vehicle doesn't even have 55,000 miles on it and gm is telling me the 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty doesn't even cover this! how much sense does that make? the powertrain is the meat of the vehicle which cannot be utilized if the throttle body is acting up because the vehicle is kicked into reduced power mode! very frustrated with gm's customer service in not acknowledging this issue should be fixed.

Gm did a recall on the rings and pistons of my car. I purchased this vehicle new and told the dealership on numerous occasions that it was using too much oil. They checked it and told me that everything was fine, to keep adding oil and that the car "just uses oil. " now at 98,000 miles later they do a recall and say there is a problem and they only fixed the rings and pistons, which is only part of the problem. My car is using 1 - 1. 5 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. Common sense and mechanics tell me that if a vehicle is using that much oil where is all the exhaust and emissions going, it is going through the catalytic converter. Since I am using three to four times the amount of oil that should be used, then the catalytic converter is working harder. Now my check engine light is on and after having it tested, gm has informed me that I need a new catalytic converter because it is clogged up. It makes since that it would be clogged up since I am burning this excessive amount of oil due to the faulty rings and pistons that gm has already agreed was wrong in the first place. Now, they are wanting to charge me $1100. 00 for a new catalytic converter. This should have been checked and replaced during the recall. They tell me my car has too many miles and their warranty covers the converter for 80,000 miles. I understand I am over this mark and also understand that I brought this matter to their attention on numerous occasions before the 80,000 mile mark. I should not be held responsible for the $1100. 00 to replace the catalytic converter since the problem originated from the rings and pistons. Please help. Thank you.

Chevy was stopped at a traffic light and was approx. 30 feet behind another vehicle and the driver had his foot on the brake pedal. The chevy suddenly accelerated, driver tried to stop vehicle by stepping harder on brake pedal, he swerved to the left to avoid hitting vehicle in front of him, but still hit vehicle with extensive damage to the chevy.

My defrosters will not work. I cannot see as this is the first time it has snowed this season. I check my VIN for a recalls and it says no there is no recall. I am really scared to drive it in this weather and I really dont have the money to have it fixed, and dont think I should have to pay as it is something evidently wrong with the Equinoxes. I feel chevy should expand the recall for this as it is a know problem. This is a serious problem as I am not able to drive it in this cold weather and fear for my safety. I know that chevy probably doesnt care but its something that really should be looked into.

I am losing a lot of oil within the 3000 miles before I change it. My car is losing power it stalls it runs very loudly and it knocks a little. I put at least 12 quarts of oil every 3000 miles and it's not leaking because I checked the top and the bottom of the motor and there is no sign of oil anywhere not even out of my tail pipe.

While driving in a storm, the windshield wipers stopped working. I had to pull over and wait out the storm, too dangerous to drive. I took the car to a chevy dealership and they said that they needed to replace the motor for the windshield wipers. It was not under warranty and cost me $400.

The Chevrolet Equinox instrument panel top pad has a integrated compartment in the center. The compartment has a bright chrome latch for opening the compartment. The latch has a very reflective surface. When driving south east the sun reflected off the latch blinding the driver even with sunglasses. View of the road was lost and the seat had to be repositioned to move the drivers eyes from the reflection. Photograph is available.

Took it to dealership for driver side seat issues come out with seat issue fixed but rear dvd monitors didn't work.

Bought vehicle used with about 30k miles on it, at first oil change was told oil was low, this continued over the next several changes, a few times it was found to be completely out of oil, no oil leak was found, at 39k miles balance shaft chain had to be replaced, at 55k miles my check engine light came on and my car almost cut off on me while I had my infant son with me, the cam shaft had to be replaced, 56k they replaced pistons, rings, fuel pump, and timing chain due to using excess oil, a few months later my air compressor had to be replaced and now my transmission is leaking. The car has a little over 70k miles on it. Also have been complaining of a rattling noise coming from the engine since I bought the car, I was told several times by the dealership that this was normal however I was told by someone at the Chevrolet home office that this was not normal, I also drove another Equinox while mine was in the shop being repaired and it did not make this noise. Dealership has be notified of all issues with the vehicle as well as the home office for gm.

Purchased SUV in Feb. Love it and great SUV. Had oil changed it never alerts when oil is low, but must keep check cause computer and actual amount do not correspond. Eighty percent of the time the seat adjustment works. One day took person home only left front tire hit curb as turning around. Traffic was coming it had completely cut off, waited a minute restarted. Just knew I would get hit. As more miles, it loses more power, getting on interstate I have to measure traffic to ensure I can get on in order not to get hit. Love the vehicle, but afraid if keep more miles less power.

This chevy vehicle is an accident waiting to happen. I have had oil consumption problems, rough idling, and loss of gas mileage. It is obvious chevy/gm know about these problems. They have issued a puzzling letter on July 13 alerting owners that there may be a problem with "the chrome layer on the balance chain pins, allowing the chain to stretch. This would cause an engine noise and if left untreated, could cause the chain to break, leading to engine damage. In addition, the fuel pump plunger shaft seal may wear and allow fuel to leak into the crankcase. . . " also on July 19, 2013 chevy issued #13-06-01-003b,: excessive oil consumption. . . . . " these two problems are closely related but chevy refuses to issue a recall. If you are driving your family at 65 mph on the highway and the chain breaks because it lacks lubrication, engine power will be lost and probably many lives. Chevy is aware that these significant problems exist and instead of being proactive they stall the owner by requesting a 2,000 mile oil consumption test. That test is designed to put the burden of proof upon the owner and not where it truly belongs, chevy. I hope someone takes these issues seriously before someone gets hurt. One cannot dismiss loss of engine power at high speeds due to their negligence. According to chevy, in addition to the chain problem, the pistons, valves, valve stems, cylinder, oil pump, cam shaft or rod bearings might need replacement due to oil loss. In my opinion, this vehicle needs to be recalled for the issues cited above.

Put key into key switch and turn toward start position and key went about halfway and stopped and all lights and dashboard went black,all electrical power went off. Finially after moving steering wheel and moving key back and forth was able to pull key out of ignition switch. Then when I put key back into ignition switch and tried to start car all I heard was a click,click so battery was dead,called ers and they came and gave me a boost and car started right up with no problems and service rep. Checked battery and alternator and they were operating fine. Called my dealership where I bought car and told them what happened but they never had a problem like that so they were no help. I called g. M. And talked to them but they never lyheard of that problem either so here I am with a car that has a problem which no one has heard of. .

The Equinox was being towed (all wheels down) behind a motorhome. Chevrolet certifies it as towable in this manner. The towing baseplate, produced by demco specifically for this vehicle) was attached to the car's front rail ends of the frame. While underway, the front rail ends tore loose from the frame. The baseplate, thus detached, tore the front grill and bumper from the vehicle. The car glided to a stop on the road. Had we been on a busy highway or on a hill, other vehicles may have been involved and serious injury or death may have occurred. We feel that the front rail ends are not sufficiently sturdy to support towing and Chevrolet should not certify the Equinox as towable.

In new chevy vehicles there is a center storage compartment located above the center console. This is held down in place by a simple push button. The button however is problematic as in some trims it is a chrome feature. In sunny condition, the reflection from the chrome push button reflects into the driver's eyes. This could lead to possible dangerous driving conditions.
