general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

The vehicle was taken a local mechanic who stated the exhaust camshaft timing was over advanced beyond limits for a predetermined period of time, the system performance catalyst was low efficiency and the evaporator systems had a small leak. The contact state 2 calibers and the boot of the axil was previously repaired due to a leak. The mechanic stated the the contact needed to replace the engine variable valve timing. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,823.

I bought a chevy Equinox in 6/2020 and have had high oil consumption problems. I took it in to where I bought it and they said it was a catalog converter problem along with seals and pistons that could damage your engine. After researching it, I found out there was a recall and class action suit fought in 2018 for the same problem. I was never told about this from the dealer and because it's outside the date to fix under the recall and warranty I have to pay for all the damage. The car broke down yesterday and had to be towed. What can I do? I'm still financing the vehicle.

I have had my vehicle for only a year and bought it used from a dealership here in town. I understand that the vehicle is nearly 12 years old though I have seen vehicles that were way older and not have half the problems that I am having with mine and it has been well keep and maintenance has been up to date. Early this week my car had been warming up for nearly 30 minutes and I put it in drive and it jerk harder then normal. I just thought it was because it went from hot to cold outside overnight that that was the problem. Though as I was driving down the street my check engine light came on and the vehicle was stalling in between 35-40 mph. So I got it check out and the code said that it was a transmission shift solenoid. I then took it to chevy to make sure that, that was the issues and the dealership penske Chevrolet confirmed that it was and that many of the Equinox’s, cruzes, and traverses from the year 2009 until 2019 health exact same issue and that several people did the complaint form in their dealership I did research online and it’s true many people complain about this issue but I think they don’t know where to go to file a proper complaint. I think that this problem not being recalled is absurd because it’s costing people nearly 4, five, $6000 because of this issue when if many and I do mean many people are having this issue then chevy needs to fix this.

No one told me when I got this car how bad the oil consumption was! I go through 5 quarts of oil in less than 2,000 miles. It's stalled out while driving with no warning. It's super dangerous.

2. 4-liter ecotec engines suffer from the defect that consumes oil at a very high rate. The primary cause of the defect is malfunctioning piston rings, which are prone to premature wear, the judge's order states. The defect necessitates the need for the car owner to replenish the car's oil more frequently. We change oil every month because of this problem but now is worse because is coming now white smoke and shaking all the engine so its now out of road my Equinox so I am waiting for this solution from gm but not answers.

Vehicle doesn't shift gears properly. Frequent hesitation and surging happens while driving.

When I purchased this vehicle, I was not told that the engine was replaced. I have replaced the exhaust manifold 2 times. The dealer told me that there is metal fragments in my oil. That I need a new engine.

In motion vehicle would not get out of second gear forward and reverse, technician states wave plate broken this was replaced under warrant in 2014.

The vehicle was repaired but continue to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 27,000. Dp.

Engine's oil consumption issues are ridiculous. Gm has a special extended warranty for this vehicle, called adjustment 14159, but failed to notify me of the special recall and it's end date of 7/31/2019. This engine is awful, hence why there were recalls and they are now being sued for it. Timing chains, engine knocking, oil consumption, pistons and rings. . Secondly, the transmission is awful. This thing blew before it was even due for its first service! my owners manual states the service is recommended on it, including fluid change, at 100,000 miles - I'm at 96,125 miles and this is where I sit. Gm is denying all liability for both of these.

Engine has major oil consumption issues. I am burning through an average of 2 to 3 quarters of full synthetic oil within a 2500 mile span. Secondly, the transmission is extremely poor. Only 96,000 miles and am already have issues in reverse, trouble going up hills, high rpm�s, and shaking/sputtering. This would happen at any time once out of park, flat land or hill.

Was driving with daughter in the car. Stopped at a stop sign and went to go into oncoming traffic in the middle of the city when it stopped. Cars had to go around me and I was stranded in the middle of the road. This could have caused a major accident. Had a friend tow it home and found out that the transmission needs completely rebuilt. When calling around to find replacement transmissions, because the car is so specific and there are so many transmission issues with this make and model, there are only 2 possible transmissions in an entire span of 3 states. This is making it also nearly impossible to replace as well as affordable.

My 2010 chevy Equinox was running fine and out of the sudden, it stopped and went off while I was driving. It refused to start again. I have recently done an oil change and the was no warning on the dashboard to indicate any problem. I bought this car about 6 months and this took place. This car was well maintained, oil changes and other maintenance were done on time. I took it to a shop and while the mechanics were trying to make it start, it will not start. They (mechanics) called the dealer and someone from the dealership said that the problem was covered under manufacturer warranty so I should take the car to them for their technicians to do a test. After the test they said it was a low engine knock and I will have to get another engine by myself because the manufacturer doesn't cover it. Don't know who to believe now. My car that I just bought is down and I'm stuck in this terrible situation.

Turned off vehicle, then turned key and it started long enough to drive into nearest parking lot. Had to press gas peddle all the way down and vehicle would not reverse at at. Tow truck was called and towed to local Chevrolet dealership. It was diagnosed with oil consumption problems due to the 2010 engine that it was built with. Was advised to keep watch on oil until decide how to fix engine.

I took my Equinox to the garage started out as an oil consumption issue then turned into the whole motor getting rebuilt.

Gm needs to offer all previous expired to people such as myself who purchase used vehicles that were never corrected during recall times. Also my VIN was not listed in recall but has the exact issues. This was confirmed by gm.

The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to move. An independent mechanic was contacted to assist with repairing the vehicle onsite. Vehicle was stopped at intersection. Vehicle would not move after using accelerator, and the engine continued to run at higher rpm. I was able to move after shutting off and restarting the vehicle. During the same drive I also had trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear with high rpm before a moderately hard shift while accelerating after a stop. Amber check engine, brake, and abm lights all lit. Vehicle is currently with mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

Transmission is bad. When I try to accelerate it doesn't go anywhere and its skipping gears and bucking prior to it finally no longer driveable.

While driving the car on the highway, it will accelerate really high then it will shift and go back down but it's doing it almost all the time know. It showed no error codes when taken in and transmission fluid is good.

Wipers transmission stopped working. Transmission revving high before shifting. Motor ticking.

Driving on state highway when vehicle started acting like it would die. I was almost home and when I parked it found it had almost no oil in vehicle after checking it before traveling home. Oil light did not come on. Mechanic says frozen pcv valve in rear crankshaft; it could have blown and left me stranded or in accident; mechanic said there was a recall but my particular VIN wasn't included.

I have a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox mileage 078815 ,yesterday while out running errands and had stopped at several locations in town . I had no warning at last stop . I got back in SUV and it started up ok and got ready to back out of parked spot shifted to reverse car would not move backward or forward but gear shift moved to all location but SUV would not . Had to get it towed home.

I put the car in gear, I press the gas pedal and the rpms rev up but my car does not move.

Car just shuts off when on free way doing 70 or at stop light then message center says stability track control then it may sit for 5 min and then restart or may require a jump start put in new battery and had alternator tested very unsafe automobile.

Sabilitrak, powertrain, throttle came on again paid $457. 90 1/25/2016. Ac & heating unit not working clicking sound replaced 8/26/2015, key is stuck in ignition, no lights, car not mobile (now).

This SUV has had a new transmission, motor and now it has been just cuts out and no power and on the message center says stability track light we have put a new battery and brought it to two different gm certified car garages and no one knows what to do car is unsafe when it just decides to randomly stall out and has no power until after it sits for about 5 min it may restart or may need a jump start very scary situation it can happen when driving on freeway or in town or even in line a drive thru line in park you never know this has happened about 6-8 times and there is no warning of when it will happen nor any kind of pattern very scary and unsafe.

I replaced the timing chain in June at my mechanic. . . I did not go to a dealer because I could not afford the $2000 they were asking to fix it. It is now the beginning of September and I am replacing the timing chain again. Why am I reading this website and seeing thousands of complaints regarding the Equinox timing chain and nothing has been done by gm. They should receive consequences for a faulty product. I called them to ask why there was not a recall when thousands of people are complaining of the same issue. They were very rude and would not offer any assistance.

The manufacturer was not informed. The failure mileage was 137,000. Jw.

Driving down road to set of lights stopped at red green light to proceed did not move, cars behind me almost crashed into me in drive moved slowly to curb side it just wont move city st on highway 55 miles hr prior heard a clunk transmission case 8-4377215669.

While driving, the car would not accelerate, pulled onto a street and put the car into park. Attempted again and the car slowly drove. Another incident, my son was driving and he said it just "wouldn't drive", luckily he was near a relatives house and pulled into the drive. He attempted to move the car and put it into reverse and it would not go into reverse. The car is now at a chevy dealer. Now this may not be deemed a "safety issue", but what is the issue, the car only has 65,000 and we are being told by chevy that the car needs a new transmission. At what point can a non-safety issue be deemed a recall. Apparently there is a bulletin regarding the chevy Equinox 2010, many many complaints, and chevy will not repair them. What can be done?.

My transmission started shifting hard last week & I took it into the dealership to be told my transmission is going out. The dealership informed me I can drive it until that happens but I may loose power & the vehicle may stall or completely die while I'm driving. I was told if that happens to re-start the vehicle and I should be able to take off again. This is scary to say the least & I've found several hundred other consumers are reporting the same issues. Many of them have had faulty transmissions replaced but are experiencing re-occurring failure due to what's believed to be defective parts being used by chevy/gm. Several consumers didn't have any indication the transmissions were failing & it did happen while they were driving putting them @ risk & creating dangerous situations. I was quoted $4560 for this repair but with no guarantee a new transmission will not go out the same way this one is. The problems I've had with this vehicle have all made me afraid to drive it b/c I don't feel safe but this is by far the most worrisome. Can you please look into this & help us? we really need to know if the "new transmissions" will be a fix for this problem. Gm seems to be aware of this issue but remarks the government has to issue recalls. Thank you!.
