general problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

It burns oil excessively stalls out while driving stability traction control comes on timing chain has to be replaced now fuel pump needs replacement all this happened at same time my cost is 2700. 00.

While driving, the car wouldn't accelerate even though I was pressing the gas pedal to the floor. It made funny noises and was jerking. I was told not to drive because of the danger to my engine. The engine light did come on.

I bought this off of a private person ,shortly after it started not taken its gas and dying out on the highway or short errands ,I started putting a bunch of money in it ive replaced all I know to do and it still wont takes its gas ,I have been stalled in an intersection before because I had no pedal if you turn it off it starts but just wont take the gas ,I heard this vehical was recalled and I dont know if its never been fixed or whats going on with it ,ive had it to many mechanics and no one can fix it ,can you tell me if any of this is on the recall list and if its been taken care of it ? I cant drive it like this its too dangerous . I bought the car in 24 , and its never ran since with out issues that no one can find the problem of fix it the right way ,thank you.

Trouble code p2138. Replaced accelerator pedal with oem. Trouble code still persists. Car goes into limp mode while driving posing a safety concern. There is a TSB 07-06-04-019f. Other codes include p0301 and p0697. After limp mode I have to pull over and turn car completely off and crank it up again to get out of it.

Just got a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox from a dealership that I trusted. Only had a few weeks and it just stalled on me while driving in traffic!!! ?? would not start back ! it was terrifying!!! thank god it wasn’t rush hour! a nice man helped push it out of road into a parking lot! now I find out there are safety issues and recalls that I was not aware of! faulty oil piston rings caused it to jump time! they want over 7,000$ to fix but I do not have that kind of money!!!its a death trap and shouldn’t have been allowed to re sale!!!.

Stalling and stopping completely while coming to a stop. New muffler put in, still stalling! - I drive daily with my two children under five and the risk of my truck stopping completely while driving is my biggest safety concern for both my children and I!.

The windshield wipers and yes, available at anytime for inspection. I was traveling hwy 80 and the wipers stopped working completely in a downpour of rain at 70 mph. I could not see and could not even follow the rear taillights in front of me to stay in my lane. I put my right blinker on and slowly moved to the slow lane in order to take the next exit off the highway. Had to travel over the highway on the overpass and needed to turn right. Couldn’t see detail so ended up running over yellow barriers then made it to the right turn and was barely able to make out a driveway which was a starbucks. Stopped to confirm wipers would not work and to move wipers by hand to clear windshield. Every 4 or 5 blocks had to stop and get out to physically move wipers by hand to clear rain water from windshield in order to drive further. It was so dangerous, I could of easily caused accidents for others and myself and also could have been fatal! next time you’re on the highway, close your eyes and keep driving-it was the same and scared me to the point that I was shaking!!! thank god I didn’t have my grandkids with me!!.

The key can be removed although drivetrain is not in park? also, a week ago while picking up my grandkids from school, my car would not start. It was parked. Everything was dead and the key could not be removed from the ignition which was quite odd even if it was a dead battery, the key should come out of the ignition? it was in park. The key could be turned but not taken out of ignition?.

After purchasing the vehicle . The vehicle starting malfunctioning. From going into 0rmp to shutting back on after turn the vehicle off. Upon utilizing cruis control the vehicle automatically speeds without pressing the set miles .

The airbag light stays on. It’s a known problem with this vehicle. Hundreds of owners online with complaints. I believe it has to do with faulty wiring under drivers seat. I’m scared the bag will intermittently inflate. GMC has to know about it. It’s happening on all the Equinox vehicles. Thank you.

My brakes went to the floor going 55 then they got really hard to press almost wrecked had to get towed! then after that the suspension felt really loose.

First time: March 21 - NJ turnpike. Car "stabilitrak icon" and service stabilitrak" msg & "tire pressure monitor" light, then "brake icon" and "abs icon" with "service power steering" msg, then "service all wheel drive system" msg - all while the icons are on - car lost all power. Car died in the middle of the NJ turnpike at almost exit 18e/w. Had vehicle towed, took first to firestone a day later, the found a code they said needed the chevy computers (p069e, u0073, d1231) - took to chevy a week later (bellavia chevy, rutherford, NJ), dealer said they found no codes - could be the battery. We cleaned the ports, changed the battery. Had new tires installed at firestone on 4/9. 4/9 picked up the car, this time driving from northern NJ to brooklyn and the exact same issue happened again, only this time, in the middle of the verrizano bridge in staten island. All the same lights / symptoms as above, lost all power. Managed to get off at the 92nd street exit and into a parking space - towed to parents house in brooklyn, made appt w/ chevy dealer for Monday 4/12 (bay ridge Chevrolet of brooklyn). Vehicle is now with them, awaiting diagnostic - this is clearly a safety issue and for the first dealer to not be able to diagnose / get a code and the issue happened again. I'm now over 500. 00 in diagnostics fees that did not fix anything. Both times were highway driving, weather conditions we good both days.

My ignition was getting jammed and stuck when turning the truck on. While driving I felt something losing power my gears felt really slow.

My Equinox ltz 2011 keep shutting off without a warning when I'm backing up on a red light or a stop no one has been able to find anything because it doesn't show but it keep doing it.

1) seatbelt light comes on despite having seatbelts secured. It happens when you start the car and stays on throughout all aspects of driving until the car is turned off. 2) service stabilitrac light intermittently flickers on and off while the radio flickers off and on, as though the vehicle were possessed. 3) the previous engine consumed excessive amounts of oil. It resulted in the previous engine being replaced a few months ago. New engine is burning oil just as fast as the old one. Withing one month the dipstick was registering as below the bottom line with 2 months and approximately 3k miles left before next scheduled oil change, per jiffy lube's sticker.

Car keeps dying while driving at low speeds, stop signs, stop lights ect. Idles very roughy, and is very loud. Check engine light is on.

At red light,my car cut out. Wouldn't turn over. Had it towed and my mechanic said it was timing chains, which affected engine. Checked 8 of 16 valves that were bent, along w/8 rocker arms cracked and torn off. $4000 to fix this issue, money I do not have. Mechanic said gm knows about these issues and refuses to do a recall on this issue that has been going on for ten plus years.

A few days ago after work I stopped for gas and took a different route home. I live in a city with traffic so I idle a lot. While stopped, my �service stabilitrak� and �engine power reduced� came on. There was no where I could go but up the expressway. Once I sped up, the car proceeded to turn off. Luckily I was able to pull over onto the shoulder on top of the expressway. After that, the car wouldn't turn on anymore. After about 30 minutes, everything started flickering and then it had no electricity running at all. Not even my emergency lights. This was really scary because ppl are driving really fast next to me and and it was already night time. I finally got help and had it towed the next morning. The key was stuck in the ignition but still no sign of life until after it was towed. I can't afford to take it in just yet but I am extremely scared to drive it as I am a single parent with no family in this new city.

Excessive oil consumption with less than 1000 miles on this oil change I heard ticking noise from under the hood so I checked the oil to find that there was none on the dip stick, I added 3. 5 quarts. Whats so bother some for me is that there was no warning light. There was a recall on these SUV's for that vary problem but it expires at 120000 miles or 7. 5 years which ever comes first all other recalls are 120000 miles or 10 years except this one, what would have happened if I was on a long trip with the family ran completely out of oil , car dies on expressway without any warning then what. I did take it to the dealer & service was the one that told me about the 7. 5 years. This car had a comprehensive carfax report with dealer maintenance being done since the car was new. No mention of the excessive oil consumption . That was the reason that I purchased it.

When the can starts it sounds like a diesel. Some thimes the enison will turn over and over and I have to turn it off the try to start it than it will start. The car will die in the midel of the highway. Some thime I have to pump the gas to get it going like it just ran out of fule.

Going down the road the ac started blowing hot air so we have no air in this SUV not fair and it started to jerk like it was losing power scary.

While driving the car stalls and it does it also when slowing down for a traffic lite and then when restarted it surges. This is a safety defect in my car. Cannot believe with all the complaints I have read for this problem and there is no recall, really. Maybe not enough people have been killed yet. Mine stalled out 4 times just trying to get out of the parking lot and then within a block it did it in traffic.

The vehicle has suffered several engine failure since I purchased it. Several sensors and module have gone out, costs of over $1500. 00 to date. Faulty electrical panel failed to indicate the vehicle was low on oil, and overheating. The oil was changed and within a month, the oil had depleted for unknown reasons. None of the indicator lights signaled and the engine stopped while driving, the mechanic said the engine froze up and it is a total loss. The mechanic said the vehicle only had two quarts of oil but was not signaling any oil problems and it should have. The sensors and electric panel were malfunctioning. The dealer never disclosed any recalls to me when I bought the vehicle used. The mechanic is getting the history together of work performed. I will upload as I get them.

When exiting the car on several occasions, I was unable to remove the key from the ignition. The most recent time that made me realize the safety hazard at hand was Monday, November 20, 2017. I parked and turned the engine off while putting my coat on and my daughter began exiting the passenger side. As I went to take the key out of the ignition the vehicle began to roll forward. I pushed the emergency brakes and it stopped. Because she was holding onto the door, it startled my daughter and she was shaken thinking we were going to hit the vehicle in front parked of us. I turned the vehicle on and off, moved the car from park to neutral for approximately 5 minutes before I was able to remove the key.

The center infotainment that contains the radio/cd/navigation, phone control, air conditioner, time is really messed up. It no longer holds time. The radio works sometimes and other times not. The same for the air conditioner. Sometimes the navigation believes I am in a state on the other side of the country. I have taken to Chevrolet asking for them to fix it. They said it cannot be fixed, only replaced. I was told the replacement alone (the part only for my model car) is $10,000. My car is not even worth $10,000 anymore. Why on earth would you put such a pricey piece of equipment in a car that cannot be fixed? you have put me in a position of being stuck with a car I absolutely hate because the messed up entertainment system and one that I cannot possibly trade in. This needs to be recalled or you need to buy this piece of crap car back. This is not fair to a consumer who works hard for their money. The 10,000 part does not even include the labor costs I would have to pay to have it put in. I have been totally screwed in this deal.

June 9, 2017 at 10:00 pm I hit a deer on south dakota hwy 11 in Lincoln county. The speed limit was 65 mph and I was going 68 mph when I hit the deer head on. I drove over to the side of the road and the vehicle stopped. After a few minutes my wife and I smelled burning electrical wire. We got out of the car and started to walk away and within 10 minutes the whole thing went up in flames. The car was totaled and the airbags did not go off. If we would have went in the ditch and been unconscious we would have burnt up with the vehicle. There is no reason that vehicle should have started on fire. GMC will not acknowledge that there was anything wrong with the vehicle.

No air flow out of defroster and top vents on driver and passenger side after 40,000 miles on car. Unable to see clearly out of windshield on rainy days and heavy fog days.

I was driving the vehicle on a rural road at approximately 55 mph and it abruptly shut off. I had no electrical power at that point and so I wasn't able to use the hazard lights or turn signals. I also was not able to steer the car or brake. The brake pedal could not be depressed at all. Once I coasted to a complete stop and sat for about 30 seconds, electrical power returned (the warning lights on the dashboard illuminated). I was then able to restart the car and drive away.

Dear sir or madam, after long waiting for those issues resolve; I decided to contact professional. I paid over 40k for this vehicle and I have lot of problem. Also the air conditioner was broken and I paid 1400 dollar. Huge problem with these car please contact me as I will hired a lawyer.

I have had this vehicle since 2016 and have had issues with it since the 7th day of owning it. On day 7, I had the catalytic converter replaced (after they tried to tell me I didn't tighten the gas cap). Then after only owning the vehicle for 4 months, I had to have a whole new engine built (so they say it was) this was after my vehicle turned completely off in the middle of an intersection while driving with my 2 year old daughter. Up until that point everything had been fine. There was no check engine light, warning or anything. The dealership had my vehicle for almost 2 months before I finally got it back. The day I got it back, my vehicle started overheating and making a horrible noise. This time the dealership told me it was my radiator and that they replaced it. Everything was ok after that for a good 3 weeks and then after that the engine light has been on and my vehicle will randomly turn off. I have taken it to a different location where they have fixed the sensor a couple of times, but they said it was my engine and that the dealership never fixed it properly. I can believe that too because none of my service info is on the chevy site and the same codes show up that did originally, this vehichle is a safety hazord and a money pit! when will chevy be held responsible for all of the same complaints on the Equinox?.

The vehicle did restart, however, the failure recurred on multiple occasions. The contact also stated that while stopped at a stop sign and depressed the gas pedal, the vehicle accelerated and immediately stopped responding to the gas pedal while the contact was in the middle of an intersection. The contact stated that he continued to depress the gas pedal, the vehicle jerked and began to accelerate. The contact stated that after that incident the vehicle would no longer reverse while shifted into reverse and the vehicle would no longer shift from third to fourth gear. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000. Sw.

When I was out running errands on 5/2/15 with my 5 year old, as I was arriving closer to my destination my car started shaking the check engine light came on, the the stabilitrak light came one and I started to accelerate the car and the pedal was all the way to the floor and the car hesitated for a min or so then it started to rev up and I was able to pull off. Then when I got to where I was going I turned the car off and according to the manual the stabilitrak should go off and it usually activates due to check engine light coming on. I can honestly say that when you are in traffic at a stop and trying to pull off this is a very dangerous situation. After being in the store for at least 30mins or more when I come back out the check engine light is still on but the stabilitrak light is off. I am no more than 20 mins away from my home but on the way back home it took at least 45 mins because three times while in traffic waiting for the light to turn green the card started having the soldered acceleration problems again. I am just relieved that the drivers behind me in each occurrence which would be a total of 4 was very patient. I did do a diagnostic report with onstar after the second incident and I was informed that there were 3 codes on my car now and the loss of power can be an issue for these code and to get the car to the dealer within 7 days. This seems to be an issue that has been listed on this site more than once. I am no longer under the warranty for this vehicle and from what I have read is a very expensive repair. I am not sure why chevy/gm is not acknowledging this issue from what I have seen on this site and edmunds. Com, car complaints. Com and you tube this a very real and serious issue. This issue needs to be addressed soon than later. I don't understand why there hasn't been anything done about this. I am scared to drive my car now.
