Our 2013 Equinox had only 36,000 miles and in excellent condition. Never had an issue with oil consumption but recently in the cold weather the oil started literally running out between the engine and transmission. The vehicle started jerking on the hwy and the oil light went on. The car has regular maintenance and we could never imagine a 5yr old one owner vehicle with 36,000 miles would have oil leaking out of the rear main seal. Entered the VIN number to see if our vehicle was listed under recall 14882 and nothing is coming up. We were told by our mechanic friend that there were 5 other Equinox's with this issue during the crazy cold weather we had recently. $1,400 later. . Read more...
The pvc valve and oil system has a bad design. When driving in cold weather the valve blows and oil completely empties. The vehicle was in motion on both street and highway. My vehicle only had 69,400 miles and is a 4 cylinder.
January 22nd 2019 my way to work at the last traffic light the car lurched forward with my foot on the brake I pulled in work and parked I left at 5:30 p. M remote started I was walking to my car it was loud I got in warning message to turn car off that the oil pressure was too low. Called aaa waited three hours in the cold with bronchitis and asthma called my mechanic I was having the car towed to his garage. January 25 mechanic said he thinks due to a frozen pcv valve there was pressure build up car spit the oil out he put oil in my car let it warm up he thought I should still have the dealer look at it. I drove the car not far to the dealer ganley rep came to waiting area told me the pcv valve froze and the high pressure blew my rear crankshaft seal the oil spilled out my battery was shot repair just under $ 2000. 00 he said this fault did damage to my timing chain no guarantee how long the timing chain would hold recommended replacing $ 1500. 00 I said do the seal and battery. I went home did google search Equinox 2013 pcv sp. Cov. Bulletin 14882 popped up it covered Equinoxes between 2010-2014 not my VIN. Rep called said gm is willing to help me with the timing chain authorized it for $500. 00. I told him what that bulletin said is exactly what happened with my car. Picked up my car Monday 02/04/19 and paid $ 2606. 76. On 02/06/19 I called chevy spoke to rep duke who gave me a reference number # 9-5037906721 told me a higher-level rep from chevy would call me. On 02/07/19 adam called and said the phone call was being recorded. He said in a nice way that chevy had already helped with $ 1000. 00 towards the timing chain and I should be grateful for that because they were not going to help anymore. I told him this shouldn't have happened. Is this verbatim for the call no but then again, I wasn't working off a script or recording the phone call like chevy is.
Pcv (pressurized crank case ventilation) system froze due to cold climate and poor design of the system. This issue caused the rear main seal of the motor to over pressurize which led to failure of the seal causing the motor to lose oil. The vehicle was in motion at time of the failure on a city street . The motor in my vehicle is not covered by general motors, but all other 2. 4l motors of this type are under some kind of coverage for the pcv system failure by gm. The defect with this motor is wide spread and gm is doing nothing to fix the problem. The motor is designed in a way as to if the rear main seal is compromised a large amount of work must be done to repair the problem. Like removing the transmission and intake manifold from vehicle. This adding up to a large repair bill for the consumer for a problem that should be fixed by gm.
The pvc valve froze causing the rear main seal to blow. This has now caused damage to the engine. The engine needs to be replaced along with the exhaust manifold. The total cost from the dealer is quoted at $7200. 00. This vehicle also used large amounts of oil. I was driving on a city street when this occurred. The chevy only has 80,000 miles on it.
I use excessive amount of oil and now my motor is acting up I have to put two quarts in a week and was not told at purchase I bought my vehicle January of 2019 I'm under the 120 000 miles this I noticed about 2weeks I had to have my vehicle in the same week I bought it cause of issues and it was a 2000 repair after I already paid 13,000 for it. I love the vehicle but my motor is knocks and it's getting worse ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
The check engine light turned on at around 135,000 miles. Following that, the vehicle began losing power, the rpms started to randomly spike up, and it began consuming a lot of oil. When idling or coming to a top the vehicle will turn off or begin shaking really bad and then turn off. I have contacted the chevy dealer and there is nothing they will do about it.
82k miles on the vehicle and am having to put 2-3 quarts of oil in car between oil changes. Check engine light is coming on every few hundred miles now and the oil dipstick is dry. I fill up with approximately 2 quarts and the engine is fine until another 200-300 miles when the check engine light comes on again and the dipstick is dry again. Had this issue last year in may in TX and the technician stated that the gasket was bad and they replaced that. Car ran fine for almost a year and now I can not go over 1000 miles without putting in quarts of oil.
The 2013 chevy Equinox burns so much oil in between oil changes that I am constantly dumping oil in. Chevy will not include my year in any service bulletins, making me responsible for repairs that may or may not work and buying oil every week. Also, the oil consumption problem is ruining the engine, leading to a crack in the exhaust manifold, which allows exhaust fumes to leak into the cabin. Especially if I use the heat or air conditioning, the windows have to be cracked for fear that I would gas myself to death.
Just purchased vehicle amd trandmission is slipping in 3rd thru 5th. No warranty seems like this happens in alot of Equinox. This is a major safety concern in which gm is not taking serious.
Intake pcv port froze-internal oil pressure in motion slowed then stopped then I would restart continually.
This car has had documented excessive oil consumption issues since I bought it used in 2015. Chevrolet will not make right. So far I have had to replace the timing chain and main seal twice due to massive oil leakage and loss. Most recently engine seized up while I was going 70 mph and stopped in the middle of the highway. A very dangerous situation. Even though oil had been changed 1500 miles previously, it was bone dry and main seal blew out for the second time. Gm says it "costs too much" to replace faulty piston rings which are the source of several service bulletins and recalls. This is a very dangerous car and someone is going to get killed driving these things!! this is the 3rd time the engine has seized up on me in traffic. Car only has 132k miles, problems started at around 45k miles.
I purchased a 2013 chevy Equinox on 5/2/16. On 1/1/18 with 84,000 miles, I was on the highway with my 4 children and the stability track, reduced power warning flashed, engine malfunction warning, and then a message to stop the engine. I pulled to the side of the highway in 0 degree weather with my and stopped the engine. After waiting over 2 hrs I was towed home. On 1/2/18 chevy's corporate office advised towing to chevy dealer. I took all of my service records as requested. 2 days later I was told the main seal failed and was not under warranty and chevy had refused any repair cost assistance so $1500 was the quote later that day they quoted me $2000. I purchased the chevy 18 months prior and owe way too much money. After going back and forth with jeff schmitt chevy in beavercreek, OH and chevy's corporate office, each blaming the other for refusing repair assistance and not honoring the warranty. I had the vehicle towed back home and was billed $130. 00+ for a diagnostic. The dealer acted annoyed by my request to have the results of the diagnostics in writing on the bill. I was also racking up a rental car tab. The next day I called other dealers who quoted $1300 but the seal was on backorder. I located a dealer 2 hours away who had the part in stock and quoted $1300 based on the diagnostic. I had the car towed 2 hours away $ to find out the intake manifold had failed causing the seal to fail and cost $2200. Bs diagnostic? this chevy burns oil like crazy. 1000 miles after an oil change and the dipstick is dry, but no oil leaks. ? now the liftgate has gone rogue. It opens and then closes very forcefully (violently), immediatly after opening injuring me. I find it extremely hazardous and have banned my children from operating the liftgate for fear that it may crush one of them. Generations of my family have been very loyal to chevy. Chevy, where does your loyalty lie?.
My car is cutting off without any warnings in traffic and when parking also at stop lights. I took it to a local shop to have it checked due to the check engine light finally coming on. Only to find out my car had no oil. Note I keep my routine maintenance up on my car due to having a small child. Also cam shaft code my car is out of warranty and I just paid car payment. Reading complaints I see this problem is happening alot. Not sure if I will keep this car feeling very unsafe with a small child and car cutting off and oil running out without any warnings GMC should fix this problem should have been fixed years ago. Putting families life in danger just too make a dollar. Safety first is my #1 reason for sharing this my car cut off 12 times in one day really & I would keep this car . I could have been rear ended several times with the car turning off . I have to take the key out and restart it really on 2013. I can't believe this is happening to me once again I have a lemon and I know for fact I'm not the only one with this problem.
Check engine light comes on and off for no reason. Rpms spike when ideling and vehicle physically jumps forward. Vehicle turns off while driving when coming to stop at intersection.
My car engine light came on last week after I had picked it up from chevy dealership after they had repaired my vehicle. Since the light has been on I am unable to use my remote start. My engine seems like it wants to cut out. My car does not run properly.
6 months after purchase car began stalling. Vehicle always was low on oil, even with proper maintenance. Loss of acceleration speed and stalling became usual. Finally after filling the tank it stalled and would not start so we had it towed. Timing chain was the reason given so $3600 later I figured it was fixed. Not the case. Oil was still having to be added and 1. 5 years later while driving, the motor has blown. We still owe 9k on a car that is inoperable and also usaa requires us to keep our insurance. I.
I just recently replaced my engine that blew up. I was driving home from a doctors. Appt when all of a sudden my SUV went from driving the speed limit to barely moving. I had to turn it on and off several times to be able to park it in a safe place. I had it towed to a local dealership and was told my transmission died. So in less than two months I have had to replace both my engine and transmission once I hit 100,000 miles. The vehicle received routine maintenance and there is no reason for both to completely die back to back.
These vehicles have a problem with transmissions. They seem to lurch forward when down shifting. Have brought it to several dealers, they say this is normal really. This is not safe. Called gm they are no help!!.
While driving on turnpike at about 75, stability control message can up followed by reduced engine power message. Car reduced speed very quickly while in moderate traffic. Managed to move to shoulder safely, however car would not restart. Powered off vehicle for a few minutes. When turned back on to attempt restart, messages are gone but left check engine light. Vehicle would turnover and sputter but would not remain running.
Vehicle shuts off while in drive , loosing all power to throttle , power steering and all other components of vehicle. This has begun happening over the last three days after having the vehicle for only three months. The vehicle currently has 39,000 miles on it . Today while traveling 70 mph on the highway the car shut off causing me to have to fight the cars steering to safely bring it to a complete stop in the breakdown lane. I had to put the car into park remove the key from the ignition and then re insert key and re start the vehicle.
Noise and burning around 6 quarts of oil a week.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while parked on a slight incline, the vehicle rolled backwards and crashed into another vehicle. The failure recurred intermittently. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000. Jo.
I purchased this 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and was looking through the owners manual. I found that there is no way to check the transmission fluid level. Talked to the service manager about the absents of a way to check the fluid and was told all new vehicles no longer have a dip stick to check transmission fluid levels. This to me is a safety hazard as if you rely on some service department to tell you that your fluid is low or needs to be replaced you could be paying money that may or may not be necessary. If your on a trip of any distance you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a transmission that was destroyed because of lack of fluid that could have been avoided had the fluids been checked prior to your trip. How about driving at highway speeds and the transmission comes apart for lack of fluid an you have an 18 wheeler behind you and the transmission locks up that 18 wheeler would roll right over the top of disabled vehicle. I believe a safety recall should be issued to all make and model vehicles with no fluid dipstick for fluid check of the transmission such as that of my 2013 Chevrolet.
I was at a stop light preparing to take a right turn on red, which is legal in oklahoma, after coming to a complete stop, and as I had begun the turn slightly depressing the gas pedal, the car died and all lights and power was lost. I coasted the vehicle into the parking lot of a gas station that was on the corner nearest to me and after two to three minutes the car started again and everything was working as normal. Many times while driving, night or day, the forward collision alert will begin beeping and flashing as if you are about to have a forward collision with another vehicle, yet there is nothing in front of you literally for miles at some times. This also causes the brakes to be depressed and the car to slow down, even on the highway, when the forward collision alert system malfunctions. Also, the display for the radio and various other functions of the vehicle has on several occasions froze the image on the screen and not allowed any air, radio, or any other functions to be able to be changed, sometimes for several hours. Also the rear door will sometimes remain locked when all other doors are unlocked with the remote control unit and/or the buttons in the vehicle. There is definitely something going on with the electrical system in this vehicle and I have an appointment to take it in to the dealership I am purchasing the vehicle from, on this upcoming Friday July 3rd, 2014.
Second time my throttle sensor has failed due to cold temperatures.
I was doing approx. 25 mph and went to press down on the accelerator the vehicle hesitated then took off very fast and rapid scared my wife and I almost hit the vehicle that I was trying to pass the vehicle now sits in my garage and will not drive the vehicle very afraid either myself or someone else is going to get killed, this is not the first time during the week of 5-22-2014 it happened.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving up an incline, the vehicle shook severely at approximately 35 mph. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
Cpsc#i1360158a. 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer stated when she pressed the accelerator her car reversed while it was still in drive. The consumer stated she immediately applied the brake, once the vehicle went into reverse. The consumer stated it felt as though, the vehicle was in neutral on a hill. She managed to put the vehicle in park, then in drive again, and once she pressed the accelerator, the vehicle went forward, without incident. Also, within the last six months, the consumer experienced electrical/computer related problems.
Transmission does not upshift when accelerating. . . Always and everyday (v6 engine models) Cadillac has issued a recall # 14132 for the same powertrain in the 2013 Cadillac srx! Chevrolet should do the same!.
