Gm had a lawsuit filed against them for the 2010 - 2013 chevy Equinox for excessively burning oil in 2. 4 engine. This is still a problem with Equinox. I have called customer service at gm and all they did was refer me to the dealer which I do not have a problem with. I took my car in for the regular oil change on 11/6/20 - milage on vehicle is 111144. I reported hearing a rattle sound. It was determine that the timing chains were loose and the tensioner for the chain is maxed out. They checked the oil level and found there is no oil on the stick. Filled with 3 quarts of oil before oil would show on the stick. They determined engine is excessively burning oil and will need the piston rings and engine chains replaced to address the problem. I have been checking the oil levels weekly. I just went on vacation and oil level was fine when we left. Before returning home, I had to put a quart of oil in the car -- this is only after driving 1441 from the last oil change. Also, since I bought the car used, there has been a rattle on start up. I previously located a technical service bulletin that stated it was because of the gasket around the oil pan until the oil starts flowing. The other thing that I have found is when I am stopped, the car will act that it is going to accelerate so I must go into neutral until it is time to drive again.
