Adaptive Cruise Control Problems of Chevrolet Equinox

Hello, since I purchased the vehicle on October 1, 2025, there have been issues regarding collison system and adaptive cruise control. When driving down the road it will try to come to a complete stop with no reasoning. It happens more often when it is rainy and night time. I believe the collision system is conufsed with oncoming traffic and it thinks they are on my side of the road but they are not. I also get alerts with side mirrors and shaking of my seat when no one is beside me. It triggers to say someone or a vehicle is approaching from the side, but there is no one or nothing there. The issue that is most troubling is I almost hit someone in the rear end on 02-03-2026. I went to slow down for a traffic light, and it started slowing down, but then got a surge and would not allow me to stop any more. It kept going. I had to remove my foot from the brake and hit it again harder. It has happened a few times, but not in a situation like this. Thankfully I was following a safe distance or I may have hit the vehicle stopped in front of me. Similar situation happened a few times, one when I was pulling into an applebees to eat, the brake did not want to stop the vehicle. It was like a surge of power again. This time was not as bad as no one or a vehicle was not in front of me. I have also noticed it a few times driving and when I go to stop the surge, but it seems to be escalating. I do not have the auto start stop on, I switch it off as soon as I start the vehicle. I do not have the auto hold on when it happens either. I have an appointment on the 16th of February to hopefully get it looked at, but will see.

Blind spot indicator malfunction. Seat sensors alert for no reason. Cruise control stops working. Vehicle automatically brakes for no reason. Information screen malfunction and goes black at random.

I was driving south on interstate 55 near arnold missouri in adaptive cruise control mode at approximately 65 mph when the car braked suddenly and came to a complete stop on the interstate. Car would not go forward after stopping. Turned the car off and restarted and the car now would drive normally. Have not used acc since and car has behaved normally. Took the car to dealership in farmington, mo and they reported no error codes and no recalls. I had driven over 13,000 miles in the car without any incidents previously.

My vehicle randomly turns off the foward collision system causing its supercruise system and adaptive cruise control to turn off while driving on the highway potentially causing and accident. I took it to the dealer in marlton NJ with the foward collision fault light on and they cant find anything wrong with the system as it resets itself after thr vehicle is turned off for two minutes. On our facebook page I am not the only one who is experiencing this I will attach some documents of similar issues apparently gm has been aware of this for a while and no fix yet.

See NHTSA safety recall report 25v-12- it appears it should apply to both 2025 front wheel drive chevy Equinox evs with adaptive cruise control (and without super cruise) in addition to 2025 all wheel drive Equinox evs with acc (also without super cruise). This is very dangerous. Here's what happened: my 8 month old 2025 Chevrolet Equinox ev front wheel drive w/acc(no super cruise) has had 2 instances where a very large "thunk" sound and vibration emanating from the rear of the car while stopped at an intersection, was immediately followed with sudden brake failure and sudden forward acceleration. The acc was on in both instances. The first time this happened was alarming but since the was nothing in front of me there was no damage and the problem seemed to resolve itself thereafter. The second time was while waiting at a red light about 10 feet behind another vehicle. My car shot forward and into the other car, which was then pushed into the car ahead of it. Both my car and the car ahead of me had very expensive damages, but fortunately, no injuries. What I experienced sounds exactly like the recall problem described in NHTSA safety recall report 25v-12 which has thus far only been applied to the awd version of the 2025 Equinox ev, not the fwd version that I have. I believe this needs rapid consideration due to the danger of of sudden acceleration resulting in serious property damage, injury, or death. It appears to me that other instances of this problem have been described in various online forums and youtubes.

- the telematics module is bad, resulting in vehicle having no connectivity (gps, entertaintment system, updates) - the car has no other means of hands-free operation for navigation software (no carplay or similar phone projection technology) - gm is unable or unwilling to supply the parts for warranty repair. - it is illegal to use the phone while operating vehicle in my state (florida).

I was driving my 2025 Chevrolet Equinox ev on the highway with adaptive cruise control (acc) engaged. The vehicle was also set to "one-pedal driving" (high regenerative braking). The vehicle in front of me slowed down abruptly. My vehicle's acc began to slow the car, but it was not decelerating quickly enough to avoid a collision. I immediately intervened by pressing the brake pedal as hard as I could, pushing it completely to the floor. Critical safety failure: the vehicle's physical brakes failed to engage. Despite my foot being pressed hard to the floor, the vehicle did not slow down. It felt as though only the regenerative braking was (slowly) working and that my manual brake application had zero effect. The vehicle continued to glide forward with no significant braking power, and I was unable to stop the car in time, resulting in a collision with the rear of the vehicle ahead. Summary of defect: the primary safety failure was the complete lack of response from the manual brake pedal. My attempt to override the vehicle's automated systems in an emergency was unsuccessful, as the brake pedal was unresponsive. Reporting history: I have already reported this incident to my auto insurance, my local Chevrolet dealership, and the Chevrolet customer assistance center. A representative from Chevrolet recommended that I file this report with the NHTSA to help identify and track similar safety-critical incidents.

My vehicle seemed to accelerate when pulling into a parking spot at my work. It then launched over the curb sending me rolling down the hillside several feet. I required extraction and the car is now totaled. I am available to explain more and share pictures at your convince.

When trying to disengage cruise control, with button on steering wheel, brakes locked up going 75mph on the interstate. Would not unlock until I physically pressed brake pedal. If I had not been able to control the car, we would have been sent head first into the concrete barrier wall. Also, when trying to start car or put in into gear, it tells me to "press brake" when the brake pedal is pressed as far as it can go. Radio will randomly cut off and screen goes blank. Trunk button on drivers door does not open trunk without pushing it minimum of 5 times. Sometimes it takes more.

Car randomly brakes hard when traveling at highway speeds with adaptive cruise control active. Happens about once a day.

On star telematics is not working the issue is effecting gps and most importantly the adaptive driving system including cruise control system. I have stopped using these services to due an intermittent failure while driving. The adaptive cruise will disengage itself. Also the collision avoidance system will initiate braking randomly. I was told that the replacement parts are not available and or “extremely long wait time”. I’m not comfortable driving this vehicle and have no options but to continue until the lease is up.

Driving down rural highway (interstate 43 in northern walworth county, WI, divided access restricted freeway) the car panic braked with no car or obstacle in front of it. No warning sign, no error message, called onstar and they reported no faults, took to Chevrolet dealership and they reported no issue. Car also has had phantom alerts from the forward collision warning system.

Every car I’ve ever owned the cruise control disengages once you touch the brakes and does not reengage without pushing the button to say resume. On several occasions, this car has reengaged sometimes many minutes after I’ve touched the brakes multiple times such as in a parking lot or parking garage going around the corner the car resumes cruise, and rapidly accelerates, which is very dangerous in a parking lot or parking garage.

My 2026 Chevrolet Equinox has been having problems; when cruise control is set it randomly puts itself into emergency park mode, the infotainment system loves to shut down which affects the entire vehicle. When this happens I can’t see my speed, every screen goes black and I have to pull over and reset the entire thing which takes a good 30 minutes, sometimes more. I have taken it to a shop which they said it was electrical and module issues, never told me exactly what or where and I’m having to struggle just to get the invoices. The problems are not currently resolved, it would’ve had to been in the shop for over a month and I can’t afford to be without a car that long with zero option of a rental. I have children. I got my car in may of this year with only 4 miles on it, been having the issues ever since.

To whom it may concern: I am writing to notify you that I own a 2011 chevy Equinox and take very good care of my vehicles. But I wanted to let you know that I have had three incidents in which the gas pedal sticks, and the vehicle goes up to 95 miles an hour. I have contacted the dealership and gm to let them know of this. They cannot explain why this is happening. Gm just said trade it in. Well, that's a possibility and who says if the next person purchases it that this could happen to them. So far, we have been able to avoid an accident. I am wondering if anyone else has had this complaint because gm says no. , I feel it has something to do with the cruise control that it has a computer glitz. Can you investigate this if anyone else has had this problem.

Adaptive cruise turn off and vehicle immediately decelerates. When traveling at highway speed with someone following closely behind you there is no warning that you’re decelerating. Also when this happens all cameras are off.

Initially, 6 months or so after owning the vehicle, the pcv reported tech bulletin occurred for me, and my rear main seal blew, causing $2000+ in repairs. Then, the engine stalled out on the coldest day of the year, got an engine replacement under warranty from my dealership, that replacement engine had 66k miles (rebuilt) and was only driven around 5,000 miles when the same issue happened. “reduced engine power” “service stabilitrak” this time it was in 98° heat leaving me and my dog stranded on the highway. I’ve had it diagnosed with a shop, and they have stated for the second time my vehicle has had timing issues, jumped time, I believe this is related to the timing issues and oil consumption issues that gm has already reported to be an issue with some of these models. I am now down the $3000 I’ve put into fixing this car and it’s various t leach bulletin reported issues, as well as out of a car now, due to warranty being expired, and still needing to make payments on this unsafe vehicle. Only have the engine replacement receipt on hand, but can gather new diagnostic as well as pcv valve repair receipt upon request.

Was driving down the road and had just hit about 50mph at 4k rpms when suddenly the car started shaking and the check engine light started flashing, I knew immediately it was just a misfire, however then the car immediately locked up brakes on full blast and engine cut off. Almost caused a mass accident let alone launching all my stuff. Then I turned the car back on and it drove fine for 20 miles. Just before I got home I am starting to try and stop at a stop sign. Hit the brake and the brake went all the way in with no pressure. A car is coming my car wont stop and im laying on my horn. Car finally got brakes again and boom the car stopped. Got home and ran the codes and it was abs, t/c, stability lignts all on, airbag system, stability trac, anti lock + braking system, engine and tranny on my chevy app all said “service immediately” rear differential clutch control, electronic brake control module all showed up when I ran the code reader. Was extremely terrifying!! im going into the dealership tomorrow to get it looked at.

Adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking intermittently fail to function.

Brakes lost all fluid. This resulted in a loss of function for related systems including adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking. Limited braking capability put my wife and I in danger. The car was less than a week old at the time. The dealer repaired it immediately on Monday morning. Dealer attributed the problem to a loose brake line. The warning lights and e-mail messages came in after the failure.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? on at least 4 occasions, while using the adaptive cruise control, the brakes are suddenly applied hard when no vehicles are anywhere near close enough to trigger an emergency braking situation. I have to manually step on the gas pedal to have the car stop the automatic braking. We can make the vehicle available upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? this incident is startling when it occurs and can cause an accident if a vehicle happens to be too close behind our vehicle. We are reluctant to use the adaptive cruise control as a result of these incidents. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer or service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no component has been inspected as a result of these incidents. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there are no warning lights or messages that appear before, during or after the incident. The incidents occur suddenly and with no warning.

I was driving on a busy rural route when I came to a stop , went to take off the car had no power. I have only had this vehicle 1 month, and the code says it it the transmission control module . Luckily we were not hit after about 30 seconds it kicks in and has power , not very safe at all .

Driving 75 miles per hour on interstate while passing two vehicles and one car behind me the car made a dinging noise, the adaptive cruise not available light illuminated and the car decelerated causing the car behind me to have to brake. If I had not stepped on the accelerator the car behind may have hit me. This has happened on four different dates and on one trip it happened 8 times in 80 miles. This is a safety hazard that could cause rear end collision at high speed. The repair shop at my chevy dealer in town says there are no error codes and the adaptive cruise is working as designed. Is I get hit from behind at high speed this could easily cause a devastating crash. I do not trust this car or the responses I am getting from the dealer. They say no one has complained about this but I kind find sites where people are reporting the same problem.

Complaint: owner states adaptive cruise control malfunctions without notice. Owner brought vehicle to local gm service department and vehicle was returned to customer as an unfounded complaint. Reporter found the following; all ipc indicators are functioning during self test, no ipc warning lights/messages present, distance following system appears to be functioning as designed and recognizes vehicles in its zone of influence. Reporter test drove vehicle with customers adas settings as dropped off. Adaptive cruise control did malfunction as customer indicated. Adaptive cruise control on engagement functioned as designed and then unexpectedly without warning failed. The most disturbing part of this fault is the only warning the system has failed is forward collision alarms. Secondly, the cruise control did not disengage upon this warning. If the prior were not enough, no ipc warnings or hard faults were recorded. This malfunction occurs unexpectedly at highway and local speeds. This fault, all the more worrisome, appears also to be either a programming error or transient. No other diagnostics were conducted. Supporting documents attached. Having personally owned adas equipped vehicles for over eight years and the confidence of using them without a problem this was a frightening experience for me and very concerning.
