My 2007 chevy Equinox is giving me problems when I am going up a hill. My car hesitates almost every time when going up a hill what I mean when I go up the hill it is like my car is going to shut off. I have had it to the garage several time in the last month for the replacement of the fuel pump and then the O2 senor went bad right after I had the fuel pump replaced is when the hesitation started. They just replaces the spark plug and that didn't help it and they can find anything else wrong with it.
Tl * the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact smelled fuel outside the vehicle upon starting the ignition and the check engine indicator remained illuminated. An independent mechanic stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
After parking my car, I stepped outside and noticed that my car smelled like gasoline. When I took my car to the mechanic, they told me that the fuel pump had a crack and was leaking fuel which was causing the smell and a potentially dangerous situation. The mechanic said that he had seen this before with other Chevrolet Equinox vehicles like mine. I asked the mechanic to fix the vehicle and I would investigate if this is a known issue with this particular make/model. It seems it is a known problem and the vehicle was part of a regional recall by general motors.

The vehicle slowed to 20 mph and then stalled. The vehicle was merged to the shoulder and was restarted after fifteen minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on more than one occasion who stated that the fuel pump and throttle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a return call. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 82,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that he noticed the smell of gasoline fuel while the vehicle was parked in his driveway. Upon further inspection, he discovered that gasoline fuel was leaking down the side of the fuel tank. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and contacted the dealer. The dealer advised the contact that his VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 50,400. Updated 12/14/lj.
Started smelling gas in the garage, though it was lawn mower, removed it, still smelled, progressively got worse, smelled around gas tank, and caused me headaches and started coming into the house. Car also started having problems turning over (probably due to gas not getting to engine so well). Started parking outside and checking your site for recall since I heard one was out there for 2007 Equinox, but it ended up my VIN # and state are not included. I contacted gm and they set up appt. On 10/29/12 to evaluate and I took it in to find out it was the exact issue on NHTSA camp. #12v459000 listed on this site - which was a cracked fuel pump module. Gm contacted local chevy dealer farrell cheverolet and they worked out a 50% discount on the repair. I told the lady at gm that I would also issue this complaint so that all Equinox vehicles in 2007 might get included in this recall, since I am not the only one having this problem and possibly I could get the rest of my charges returned if included. This is definitely a safety issue and could have turned out worse if my house burned down or something.
Began smelling strong fuel smell on passenger side of vehicle. Took vehicle in for service and was informed the fuel feed line was cracked and had caused a fuel leak. Fuel pump assembly had to be replaced. Chevrolet Equinox 2007 models have a current recall (id 12v459000) that was issued in September 2012 for this exact issue; however the recall doesn't include georgia. The manufacturer would not cover the cost of this repair under the recall even though they confirmed that it was the same issue. This is a safety concern and the recall should be expanded to all states. This is a costly repair and should be covered since it is an obvious defect that they have already claimed responsibility for in other states.

The consumer stated gm did refused to acknowledge, there was a problem with her vehicle, in which a recall had been issued for her models as well as others. The consumer stated she [ay for the repairs prior to learning about the recall. The consumer stated gm did refused to acknowledge, there was a problem with her vehicle, in which a recall had been issued for her models as well as others. I had been smelling a strong odor of gas so I took it to my mechanic to have a diagnosis of the problem, he said that there was a leak in the top of the gas tank and I should get ahold of gm to see what type of recall there was on this problem. So when I got home I checked on line and found there was a recall #12v45900, so I got ahold of gm and talked to customer rep. [xxx] telling her the problem I was having she said that she would have to have another person contact me , so [xxx] called me , I again told her the problem and she said I would have to take it to a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnosis, I told here I had already had one done but she said I had to have one done at the dealership , so with her on the line she called reliable Chevrolet and we set me a appointment for October 17th @ 8am. So on October 17th I took my Equinox to the dealership and they ran there diagnosis and told me the same thing I had already told them, also charging me $98. 55 for that information, they also told me they would need to remove the gas tank to check further and that would take about 4 hrs @ $98. 55 per hr, I told them I could not afford to have that done and I would contact gm as soon as I got home, they also said I shouldn't be driving it cause it was dangerous . [xxx] contacted me back the next day and said there was nothing gm could do for me even though they know there is a problem but because the recall has not been published they cant help me. She also told me I could have it repaired myself and when they published the recall I could get reimbursed. I told her I work a minimum wage job and could not afford that. I again ask her if they know there is a problem why not fix it and again she said that the recall has not been published and there was nothing they would do for me. All I am asking is to get my Equinox fixed and no longer have a gas smell.

The contact spoke to the manufacturer regarding NHTSA campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump) but was advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. Vehicle was purchased and registered in michigan. Car started smelling strong of gasoline. Fuel started leaking out of the vehicle. No accident or damage had occurred prior to the gas tank leaking. Vehicle was taken to the dealer and the fuel pump/fuel module had to be replaced. It was found that there was a crack in the fuel pump, causing it to leak gas and could of caused a fire. The recall number #12v459000 should include michigan on the states listed. I have just recently (within the week) had this fuel pump replaced, and the dealership did not know of this recall and I had to pay to have it fixed.
Noticed a strong smell of gas coming from the vehicle when parked. Had to move it out of garage as smell was extremely strong. Took car in for service 8/25/12, found that the plastic part of the fuel pump was cracked and cost approximately $909 to repair. Find out there is a recall for this very same issue (NHTSA campaign id number: 12v459000), as well a corresponding recall for same issue on select Suzuki xl7 (NHTSA campaign id number:12v597000). I contacted gm customer assistance by phone (800-243-8872) to find out if my vehicle was covered, was told no, only because it was not originally titled in one of the following states "originally sold or currently registered in arizona, California, nevada, and texas". Was told by gm customer assistance that they would contact me if it was decided that my vehicle would be covered. I have not heard anything from them, I can provide a case # upon request. What difference does it make where the car was titled, did not my vehicle come down the same assembly line. So in effect because my car is not covered it is ok that the fuel pump cracked, and had it caught or caused a fire that would be ok as well. Would like some assistance to get gm to acknowledge that this is the same issue, not penalize me because I live in ohio and reimburse me the cost for the repair $909.
2007 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to fuel pump leak recall. The consumer stated after discovering the fuel pump was recalled, she called GMC, but was informed her vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. The consumer was not satisfied with the response, as the fuel pump was replaced on August 23, 2012 for a serious fuel leak. Earlier in the year, the evap purge valve/emission system and fuel cap were replaced.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that there was a fracture in the fuel pump module, which needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 15,400. . . Updated 12/05/12 updated 12/07/2012.
I have a 2006 Equinox that I bought used with 91,000 miles on it. Only one previous owner with clean car fax. I love the car, but at least once a week it acts like it doesn't want to crank. I sometimes have to push the gas pedal to even get it to crank. I'm assuming this a fuel pressure problem of some sort. Also, once cranked the car will sometimes idle itself down from 1 rpm to 0 rpm then back to 1 rpm. There is also a clunking noise coming from back end of car where the fuel pump is. I have also had issues with having the headlights replaced because water gets into the headlights. Most of the Equinox's that I see on the road have water in the headlights. This a safety hazard because the headlight bulbs will burst when wet and you have no headlight until you have it fixed. (which you have to replace the headlights/tail lights yourself because part stores refuse to do the labor for you because you have to remove the entire headlight to even replace a bulb. This seems to me that Chevrolet did that so if you are a woman, like myself, you are forced to take it somewhere and have it replaced. ) there are also issues with the brakes and rotors wearing too fast. I have also had issues with the air conditioner. I have had to replace the resistor on the blower motor twice in 2 years. These may not be big problems to gm, but I rely on my car to take me to work and school and the fact that they genuinely don't care has forced me to not want to buy another Chevrolet again. Seeing as they had to have a government bail out previously to even stay in business, you would think that they would value their customers!.

Noticed a very strong gas smell coming from right rear of vehicle (where gas tank is located). At first I thought it was just a dirty fuel filter, but did some research online and was astounded to find out that approximately 200 2007 Equinox owners were having the same problem. I took my vehicle in for service on 6/26/2012 and was told that the fuel pump was leaking. In my research I discovered that other owners had: fuel tank leaking; fuel pump and fuel sensor replaced; fuel pressure modular; faulty fuel lines; cracked fuel tank; gas tank seam near pump/sending unit assembly separated & leaking; plastic gas tank had a crack; vapor canister; cracked fuel pump pipe; fuel line from fuel pump to engine cracked; fuel pump module at connector; and on and on and on!!! this appears to be a component failure/manufacturing defect and a recall should be issued. This is a safety and health issue - the potential for one of these vehicles exploding (possibly with deaths) is great. Inhaling gasoline fumes brings concentrated hydrocarbons into your lungs and bloodstream. Some of the ingredients in gasoline are extremely toxic and are mutagens. Liver damage and permanent brain damage are possibilities. Make general motors do the right thing and issue a recall!!!!!.
I received a letter from Chevrolet (July 2013) explaining that there are issues with numerous engine parts, particularly the fuel pump and balance chain. Chevrolet stated that they are extending my power train warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first. I have had the balance chain replace twice already. I am concerned that the condition with the fuel pump could cause a fire or serious engine damage. The letter from Chevrolet states: "in addition, the fuel pump plunger shaft seal may wear and allow fuel to leak into the crankcase, which would illuminate the malfunction indicator light. This can cause run-on and/or the engine to run rough". I would assume that the engine and oil in the Equinox would reach very high temperatures when they have been operated for a period of time. The introduction of fuel into the crankcase and engine could possibly ignite. Also the failure of the balance chain could cause engine failure under some driving conditions that could leave the car inoperable, causing an accident. I believe chevy should be held accountable for the defective parts and potential danger their failure could cause. Chevrolet should be directed to issue a recall to replace these defective parts. .

On Jan 15th noticed strong smell of gasoline by fuel tank. Took vehicle to dealer where they found fuel seeping from fuel pump module at connector. They replaced fuel pump module with sensor. Total cost was $1700. Contacted gm customer assistance and after they researched the issue they refused to pay anything since it was out of warranty and there was no recall notice. The NHTSA needs to force gm to recall these vehicles before someone gets injured or killed!.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that there was a leak in the fuel pump, causing gas fumes to be exposed. A local mechanic diagnosed that there was a leak in the fuel tank. The dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to timing chain recall did not fix the problem. The consumer stated the timing chain was installed on April 24, 2013. Five months later, the vehicle was running rough, stalling and shaking and rattling while it was in idle. He received a recall notice for the timing chain. The service department informed him, the recall was serviced during the April 24, 2013 visit. On November 22,2013 another timing chain was installed. The consumer has experienced several problems with the vehicle, since April 2011. The dealer replaced a worn compressor, the balance shaft chains, oxygen sensor, high pressure fuel pump, intake actuator, intake solenoid and the transfer case.
Started smelling gasoline after leaving my 2007 chevy Equinox parked for a long period of time. Then my Equinox had difficulty starting after being parked overnight. Took it into the dealer, and they found a cracked fuel tank and a leak in the fuel pump. The cost for the fuel tanks was $1,000, but the dealer was able to apply a one-time gm safety fix, where I only paid $200 and gm covered the rest. The leak in the fuel pump was covered by the warranty.
Noticed strong smell of gasoline after driving. The smell lingered for several hours after the vehicle was parked. Brought to the dealer and was told that there was a fuel leak. Also fuel sensor indicated gas tank was 1/2 full, but dealer stated tank was full. Vehicle has 67000 miles on it. Dealer is replacing the fuel pump and fuel sensor under the powertrain warranty. No injuries or damage resulted from this, but I consider this to be a serious hazard as leaking fuel/fumes could have sparked an explosion. After researching this issue, it appears other owners have had similar complaints.
My 2005 chevy Equinox fails to start sometimes. It turns over like it wants to start but nothing. I've had it checked out and they can't seem to pinpoint the problem. Stepping on the gas will usually get the car to finally start but not always. It is happening more and more often. The battery, starter, etc has been checked and they're fine. Next step is changing fuel pump (very expensive) but none of the local garages seem to think that is really the problem as they see this a lot on the Equinox.
