1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Express 1500

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

Wife complained of pulsating brake pedal, took vehicle for a short test drive, on the way back while traveling in a straight line at approx. 30 mph made a stop applying moderate pedal pressure, brake pedal went to floor. Carefully drove the remaining 1/8th mile home and crawled underneath van. Brake lines a mass of rust, line that runs back along left side rail from what looks like an abs unit burst upon pedal application and was dripping brake fluid, master cylinder was almost empty upon inspection. The most unsafe and unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. At 40,000 miles a rear line from the proportioning valve also rusted through but at least did not burst suddenly, started dripping. It and the 2 rear wheel cylinders which were also a mass of rust needed replacement.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Express 1500

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

I am a fleet mechanic for a community college. During a routine safety inspection on a Chevrolet Express 1500 8 passenger van for the community college. I noticed that the brake master cylinder was leaking. I took it to the dealer and the verified my complaint, of course the warranty expired on it around 1 year ago. The total cost parts and labor was around $900. 00 to fix it on a van with around 19,000 miles on it. This leak can lead to brake failure and cause a crash. It can also leak on plastic and other components and cause them to fail as well.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Express 1500

Failure Date: 10/02/2010

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Express 1500 v6 and while driving to my house from work I lost all brakes due to a brake line failure, the two hydraulic brake hoses that are attached to the master cylinder are in contact with another metallic brake hose under them, by rubbing together for four years caused the hoses to wear and rupture and nearly caused a crash.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Express 1500. The contact was traveling 25 mph when the brakes were applied and they would not respond. The contact was forced through a red traffic light and attempted to shift into a lower gear. The vehicle did not stop until driving over a curve and coming to a stop. The vehicle was inspected by a mechanic where it was discovered that one of the hoses of the master cylinder failed. The mechanic advised that there were two hoses that were running together abnormally and the friction caused the hose to collapse. The failure and current mileage was 53,000.
