Air Bag Light On problems of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Hhr equipped with cooper ultra touring ht tires (na). While driving approximately 60 mph, the rear driver's side tire blew out. The contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated and the tire pressure monitoring system indicated that the tire pressure was decreasing. In addition, there was a recurring failure of tread separation with the replacement tires over the course of two months. A dealer was not made aware of the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures through several voice messages by the contact. The tire size, dot number, VIN, and tire failure mileage were unknown. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

My airbag light keeps coming on and off to get serviced. My warranty is ran out so I don't have the money to get it fixed. What can I do?.

Airbag light comes on when the interior temperature rise, after the interior cool down the light goes off. I have to turn the air condition on high to cool down the interior temperature to get the light to go out.

I have found through research that there has been a recall previously due to the airbag lights, apparently this was never fixed in our car. We bought the car this past December. The light comes on even when no one is in the passenger seat and now the light and system says that we need to service the airbags.

While driving on smooth paved suburban roadway the service air bag light(s) illuminated on the console in front of the driver. Later that day the light(s) went out. This has happened again on several occasions. On September 6th the service air bag light(s) came back on at least 3 or 4 times. This car has never been damaged or abused in any way. The electrical system has never been repaired or modified other than the ignition key recall and replacement of the power steering motor (both were recalls performed at our local gm dealer.

I was pulling out of a parking space at wal mart and a beeping sound got my attention and then I realized the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. . I stopped in the middle of the lane and turned the car off. . . We sat there for about 15 seconds and I started the car again and the steering was fine then. . We then drove about a half mile to the dollar tree and it happened again as I was pulling into a parking space. . I parked and we went in the store. . When I came back out it was working again. . . Then today, sept. 15, 2014, I pulled into the library and as soon as I started to turn into a parking space, the steering wouldn't work and the beeping sound started and the power steering light was on again. . . . I turned it off right there and waited a few seconds and it was again working. . . We don't trust taking this car anywhere and had planned an extended trip to washington to stay with our granddaughter but we just don't dare do it. . . This is such a huge safety issue and we want it fixed!!!!! also, the service air bag light has been on for almost the entire time we have owned the car. . I have all the reciepts of taking it in to be checked and the charges we have incurred. . . It has been on the last time for over a month as we had just had it in again . . The light went off for about 20 miles after we left the dealership and then came on and has been on ever since. . . This whole thing has been ridiculous!!!!!! who can help us?????.

They need to give rental cars untilthey get the parts in this would insure our safty and speed up the process that they say they are vmaking the parts as fast as possible . That's just not exceptable. Fix our cars right now I am not ready to die in gm junk. My air bag light came on says it needs serice well fix it gm. I cant worrie all the time the stress is to much.

I purchased this car in August 2009( special auto program) and had to return in August 2009 for the drivers airbag light kept flashing on and off. The repaired was done (necessary to replace & program pass presence module ) at that time. I started having this same issue this year and brought it back for service again 6/20/14. Paid $315. 00 to be repaired and picked it up today and the flashing light is still on. My concern is this may also be a factory defect also that has not been detected. I am feeling a little uncomfortable with the airbag being repaired and still doing the same thing. I am a senior and I travel always with a 33 year old totally disabled child. If my airbag is not working correctly , you would have two people impacted by this. Now I was told to bring it back but as isaid I am not feeling to good about the job really being done. As a consumer what can I do other then have this on file with your off?.

My Chevrolet 2009 Hhr airbag light comes on when the car has been sitting in the sun for a few hours on a hot day. Once the car cool off the light goes off, or if it is before the sun come up there is no problem. I reported this to my Chevrolet dealer and they pretended like this issue was foreign to them, but as I search the internet I see this issue reported by more owners than I can count. There is an issue going on and this need to be corrected in a recall.

Service airbag lights keeps coming on. Took it to get looked at today. The passenger airbag was bad. It is going to cost $1200 to get new airbag installed. I did some research and found that this is a common problem the 09 Hhr. It is not under warranty. Contacted chevy with no response. The car was never in an accident or even bumped by anything for a airbag to go bad.

My air bag service indicator light turns on intermittently. At least 5 times in the past year, no accidents, no problem seen with air bags by service dept at dealer. ???? . The safety lock on the drivers side controls for all passenger windows does not lock the window operation. Braking system problem in the past 6 months. Ive returned to the mechanic 4 times had my brake pads changed, rotors turned, rotors resurfaced , only to h Ave the same problem. . . . . Steering wheel shuddering bad when applying the brake. The rotors overheat and warp, but I will drive only 2 blocks and it happens. Dont think that is enough to overheat the rotors.

I also have a 2009 Hhr with 47000 miles and the service airbag light is coming on frequently. I plan to take it in to the dealer. This looks like a common problem and should be recalled.

I was sitting with the car idle at home and the air bag light came on. I looked it up and it said that the air bag is more than likely defected due to an electrical issue. My concern is that the air bag could go off while I am driving or not go off in an accident.

When vehicle is exposed to direct sun and hot and/humid conditions, the service airbag light comes on. The light remains lit until removed from being exposed to direct sunlight and cools down sufficiently. Although, this is not always resolved immediately. Occasionally, the service air bag light remains lit for up to two or three days regardless of sun and heat/humidity exposure. This is a safety issue in that there is no way of knowing whether or not the airbags will function properly.

I have two issues going on with my Hhr. Last evening I pull into my driveway and my key would not turn off engine and release. I have read hundreds of complaints with the same issues while I was trying to research how to turn off my car. My car ran in my driveway for 2 hours wasting gas until we figured out how to turn off car. The manual states that you can push a tumbler and turn the key to release it. The manual is not clear on what the tumbler is but the only movable piece inside steering wheel base did not help to release the key. We finally figured out how to pull the fuse to shut down the entire car. The dealership was closing around the time I started calling and their option to come leave the car without other transportation was not a good option for me with kids. Once fuse was out the car is sitting in my driveway with the key in it which is causing a whole other level of stress for me. I have to put fuse back in this morning and take to dealership to get my car fixed. From other complaints the fix should be the same. I don't understand if this is such a big issue why there is no recall on this. I also would like to know will we as loyal customers get a refund when they actually do decide to recall this apparent defective car. My other issue is the air bag light pops on for unspecified periods of time and says it needs serviced. It can go off for days and weeks at a time and then decide to pop back on. I have also been reading about this issue in the complaints and wondering why there is no recall on this issue as well.

2009 chevy Hhr - key stuck in ignition with engine running. Had to pull negative battery cable and ignition fuse to shut car off. Called dealer and they told me to bring it in. Reconnected battery cable and replaced fuse and car started up so I could drive to dealer. Chevy dealer stated ignition lock syl binding, removed and replaced cyl. I had to pay $300+ to have this fixed and since this is a known issue with Hhr's, I feel gm should definitely do a recall as this is a serious safety issue. Also the service air bag light comes on randomly and can stay on the entire trip or go back out in a few minutes,only to come back on a few minutes later.

Air bag light turned on in the vehicle, but after a while it would turn off and then come back on again. The dealer repaired the problem and the light went away. Less than one year later when the car had 50000 mi the problem re-occured. There appears to be a wiring issue with the airbags in this vehicle as there are many similar complaints from other owners.

Service airbag light comes on intermittently. Light began coming on about April 14th, and has lit every time I drive since then - about 5 weeks now. Airbag light went on in dash took to dealer repaired under bumper to bumper around 16,000 miles more light went on again will intermittently go on and off. Occuant seat sensor is also turing on airbag at 10 pounds instead of over 35.
