The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Hhr. While driving at an unspecified rate of speed, the curtain air bags deployed with force on the driver's and front passenger sides. The driver's hearing was impacted for days after the air bag deployment. A head injury was sustained and the air bags had to be maneuvered for the driver to exit the vehicle. Medical treatment was not received. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, ourisman Chevrolet of bowie (16610 governor bridge rd, bowie, MD 20716, (301) 262-7600) was contacted. The vehicle was parked at the contact's residence. The manufacturer was to investigate the failure to determine what caused the air bags to deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact and the driver were waiting for a response from the manufacturer pertaining to the failure and to address NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system) and 14v171000 (electrical system). My air bag service light continues to turn on and off at various intervals. I think it has to do with a faulty passenger underneath sensor but I'm not sure. I know there's been several recalls involving the airbag wiring and electronics so I think it may be related to that work. It hasn't been fixed yet or replaced. I believe it maybe related to the other airbag recalls or a faulty sensor from the start. This is a common issue I've come to findout.
The "service air bag" light just stays on all the time.
Random drivers curtain airbag deployment. No reason to happen.

I was leaving work and my speed was 30 mph or less when dinging sound came on and screen showed service air bags. I had no idea what that meant. I don't know if the vehicle is safe to drive or not!!! it stays on awhile then goes off, but always comes back on. I see where this is an ongoing problem that lots of people are having is there no way to get Chevrolet to fix this problem?? it's obvious that it's their problem.
The red light keeps coming on and off that the air bag needs service. It seems it the passenger side, as it beeps and there is no one there or I have my purse sitting on the seat. The car dealership said it's not on the recall list and I wanted to do diagnostic that it would cost me $98. 00. I have read on the chevy website for owners there is a lot of people with the same compliant with different model years.
Taken the car to dealer multiple times, for power steering failure as well as the car stalling. . Was told there was nothing that could be done about the car. . . Was side swiped on road on 03/14/2014. . . Car barely tapped us and we lost control of the car due to power steering issue. . . Ran into the guardrail. . Car was totaled while the other car (a 2005 Toyota prius) drove home. . . Driver had head injuries while passenger had contusions to his right hand from airbags. This car is a death trap waiting to happen. .

The power steering stopped working while driving and still does not work. The passenger air bag turns on and off intermittently when no one is in the seat.

2009 chevy Hhr , the air bag light come on and goes off multiple times a day. The passenger seat belt is locked up , I purchased the pos 3 months ago it has not had its first oil change yet. I have heard the wiring is a issue and its all built in mexico which makes me sleep well. Obviously its a big issue but im sure we don't want to make a big deal of air bags failing at 60,000 miles, lots of online complaints on air bags, if something happens to me in this crap car its been addressed with the gov. Don't buy Hhrs there outsourced junk, matter of fact my 2003 2500hd is a crap pile too, with 90k on the clock, replaced almost everything electrical on it.
The "service air bags" light comes on intermittently while driving. Air bags are disabled. Seems to be a manufacturing defect.
Driving and airbags just blew up and caused me to run into pole. Could not stop, and could not see because of airbags. Car was damaged beyond repaired. I was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Injury was caused to legs, chest, stomach, back.

The service air bag light comes on and goes off intermittently . Dealer ran diagnostic checks and stated "passenger side dash airbag connector needs to be replaced" . This vehicle has never had an accident , has never had any work done under the dash or to the air bag restraint system .
The service airbag keeps coming on. The dealer said that I need a new airbag and they want me to pay for it. I feel that this is a manufacture default.
I was driving on 30 mph zone at 30 mph, when the service air bags vame on my dash board.
Without incident, the service airbag alert illuminated and has continued to stay on the majority of the time for the last 5 days. Momentarily, the alert light will turn off but re-illuminate again without incident. This is similar to the other posts and complaints I have read.
With a chime the repair air bag safety light comes on. This has continued even though repaired twice by chevy dealerships. First they repaired the roof rail connector. Next incident they replaced the passenger seatbelt. Two years later the light continues to come on and off (with preceding chime) on a daily basis.
The airbag service light came on in the dashboard for no apparent reason. I havenot gotten into an accident or a fender bender, or not evena slight bump to any part of my vehicle. Now the light shows to service the airbag and sometimes it goes out like it is fine, but then comes back on within minutes.
This is my 2nd Hhr first was great this is horrible. First problem was my locking mechanism on drivers side would not work. After the third time in the dealership they changed out the lock mechanism. Then I started having problems with my window not rolling down and my dash light going out for a period of 2-3 seconds. They fixed the window but could never find out what was going on with the dash. Then my airbag service light started coming on I had to take in twice for this incident. My steering problem started when I took my son in to do his driving test and all of a sudden it became very difficult to turn. We parked the car gave it a few minutes and started driving again, did the test and on the way home it happened again. We have just had to many problems with this vehicle.
Since then the air bag trouble light goes on and off sometimes off for months (as it is now off) I asked about a possible recall on this and the local chevy dealer said that there was not it > where this is a safety issue I think that a 3 year old vehicle should be considered for a safety recall. I bought the car used and have a car fax report that there was no problem reported.
2009 Hhr serive airbag has been on and off for years. The car has never been wrecked and now since the light is on all the time, no one will take the car on trarde in for safty reasons. . I have contacted gm and they refuse to check the car for free and I dont feel I should have to pay for them to fix another known defect. . The car sits unused as we feel its unsafe to drive. . There was a recalled issued for many other gm models on 3/18/13 for the same airbag issue but they have done nothing for the people who bought the Hhr. . There are endless lists of airbag problems in the chatrooms and gm does not care. . I guess its cheaper to pay off the victims of their defective cars then recall them and replace the parts. . Their cost on the parts is pennies on the dollar that they charge the customers. . They are killing the tax payers that bailed them out of bankrupcy. . Ill be buying a Toyota next time.
