37 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 07/04/2012

On-going despite several repair and/or replacement attempts. The rotors have been replaced four times. I just did the rotors and brakes 3 weeks ago. When it is cold the suspension seems like the car is going to fall apart. The power steering comes and goes. The first time it happen I was trying to make a u-turn and was almost rammed from the passenger side door. These cars are a death trap. All my issues has been going on for about nine months.

38 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

I am a 35 year old mother of 3 and I recently had a dangerous close call while driving my 2006 chevy Hhr. I was driving with my children on board and I suddenly lost power steering. I quickly managed to control my vehicle but it was a close call. I took my vehicle to my nearest chevy dealer for inspection. I was told what was the exact problem with the steering column and the estimated cost of repair would be $1600. 00. I went home and quickly researched into the problem. I found out that I was not the only owner of a chevy Hhr to have this similiar problem. I found out also that the chevy cobalt (which also has the same steering column) has a recall on it but not the chevy Hhr. It is only logical that the chevy Hhr should have a recall also because the steering column is identical. Public safety should be the number one concern.

40 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

I have owned this car from day one they have replaced my shock or strut on the front passenger side at least 4 times and it needs to be done again. Can you tell me why?.

41 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

It began with my key getting stuck in the ignition, would have to try to place in park multiple times to release the key. Found the panel in the steering column and the release button to remove key. Now the gear shift button is stuck in the pressed position, making the car vulnerable to coming out of gear. This is extremely unsafe and costly to fix. From listening to service representative at a former dealer, this is a common problem with Hhr and cobalts. Additional personal research has indicated this is a common and known issue with the manufacturer. This defect is unsafe and should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer on their dime, not mine. In addition, the rotors knock and have had to be replaced. I had one replaced under warranty, they would not replace both front rotors. Now the opposite is knocking and is no longer under warranty. This is also a very common problem with the cars and not something that should have to be replaced on any car with less than 50,000 miles. Gm needs to own up to their mistakes and make the necessary recalls.

42 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

When I come to a stop, there is a rattling sound and makes the stop increasingly bumpy. It is coming from the driver's side quarter panel. Sounds like a steering column issue just as a mechanic told me.

43 Suspension problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Our 2008 chevy Hhr just starts to shake on the highway once it hits 60 mph to about 64 mph, then it goes away. The shaking is really bad it makes the whole car shake and my hands began to shake pretty hard on the steering wheel. We've replaced all the tires with brand new goodyear eagle gt and them balanced and wheel alignment was done. But the car still shakes at that speed.

44 Suspension problem of the 2011 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the steering wheel began pulling to the left. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to correct the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50 and the current mileage was 17,000. Updated 03/14/12 the consumer stated after test driving the vehicle, he reported to the salesperson, that the vehicle pulled to the left and something was wrong with the steering. The consumer was informed the problem had been found and corrected. The dealer asked the consumer to drive the vehicle about 1000 miles. When the consumer returned the vehicle to the dealer, they found the alignment was out of specification. The repair was made. However, the consumer continued to experience problems. The vehicle had to be aligned several times. Also, the left front tire sensor was not reading the tire pressure and there was a noise coming from the gear shift or axle. The dealer was unable to detect a noise. Updated 04/10/12.

45 Suspension problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

Kept hearing a clunking noise in the front end when going over speed bumps or hitting regular bumps in the road. Have taken it to chevy mechanics several times, and no issue was found. Took it in to an independent mechanic for a tune up and he told me that the front bushings were completely shot and it was having an adverse effect on my alignment. Mechanic stated that for the bushings to be in the condition they were in, this had to have been an ongoing problem. Chevy never diagnosed the problem and never made any suggestions for repairs of this nature. Very upset that I am now out of warranty (my vehicle was under warranty when I first started hearing the noise) and I am now looking at a $1200 repair that chevy should have diagnosed and repaired 4 years ago when I first noticed the problem. This on top of all of the recalls and other issues gm seems to be having, I will never purchase another gm vehicle.

46 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

2006 Chevrolet Hhr LS. Consumer states that vehicle has worn struts which needed to replaced after only 33,000 miles and dealer has been unable and unwilling to assist with defect.

47 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 04/30/2008

These vehicles are dangerous! the problems with mine are on-going despite several repair or replacement attempts. The rotors have been replaced five times since purchasing it new. Braking at higher speeds is near impossible. The vehicle shakes, lurches shimmies and feels like the brakes have locked up. Stopping on a hill is a scary experience. The only reason gm has not been forced to recall these cars is because no one has died yet. It would be easier for me to detail what is right with the car than try to explain all of its problems. It now has 60,000 miles on it and I've been trying to resolve the issues with it since it was new. I am now being forced to stop payment and let them repossess it. I cannot sell it in good faith nor can I afford to continue paying for these issues since it is now out of warranty. The dealerships no longer want to deal with it because they have no clue how to fix the issue.

48 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 12/03/2007

We have had several problems with our Hhr since we bought in in August of 2007. The first problem occurred just after purchasing it, when we were driving it out on a highway for a first time outing with it, when I noticed the front wheels seemed to be floating back and forth. I slowed down and immediately took it home. We contacted our local dealer, and had the car brought in to be checked out. We were told the front bushings were bad & needed replacing. The dealer replaced the bushings. (under warranty) in September of 2007, we had to replace our cars remote control, even though it was only 1 years old. Our dealer replaced it but we had to pay $81. 82 out of our pocket. October 2007, I brought our can into our dealer because it had a rough ride and groaning sounds. The dealer looked at it and said the sound was coming from the steering column. They replaced our steering column under warranty. December of 2007 my wife, mother & I went to a christmas light parade in our town; when we got home I turned off the ignition & when I attempted to remove the key, it would not come out. That Monday I called our local dealer & they had us bring in the car on 12/3/07. They reported that there was no power to the inter lock2 and a fuse had brown. They found that a wire harness was pinched under the column cover & repaired the harness (under warranty) January 29,2008 I brought our 2006 Hhr into our dealer again complaining about squeaking and popping noise with clunking in left front. They said they heard noise from stabilizer links pivot joint at link tires miss-matched. They replaced both stabilizers links under warranty. Continued on next report.

49 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated that the gear shifter could not be engaged into any gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the gear shifter. Additionally, the contact stated that the front tires were wearing prematurely. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front end was rebuilt. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
