Car running well -no problems at all. Parked car a local shopping area. Apparently engine caught fire while I was in store. It was noticed by employee of store who called fire department. Although they came quickly the car had to be totaled as the fire consumed and melted the entire engine.
Consumer put keys in ignition, turned the keys, and heard a loud noise, and saw smoking coming from out the hood, engine had caught on fire. Contacted dealer.
As I put the key into the ignition - turn the key - a loud bang came from the car - when I looked out of the window smoke was coming from under the hood - so, I pop the hood, exit the car, lifted the hood and the engine was in flames - called the fire department to put the fire out - firemen stated that the engine was on fire.
Consumer was driving for 1 hour and 10 minutes and got off highway when vehicle stalled out suddenly and could not restart. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer. But, dealer could not determine cause at this time. For the second time the vehicle stopped. The gm advised, the cause was the wire harness which dealer installed.
This is the second time in 12 weeks that my new vehicle has been back to the dealer for repairs. This is not acceptable. No safety defect listed.
While driving there was a loud clunk. Driver pulled over, opened the hood, and discovered flames coming from engine. Vehicle has not been seen. There was a hole in the gas line where it went into the engine and this caused a flash fire.
The consumer was parking vehicle, smelled smoke and noticed engine was on fire. Front harness wires overheated. Consumer lost power steering, and when the consumer went to move the vehicle, there was some type of fluid on the ground under. Fire department came out and put out the fire.
While parking noticed smoke coming from the hood area. When the hood was opened there was a fire that caused the vehicle to burn up totally. Dealer has been contacted. The fire department put the fire out, cause undetermined.
