general problems of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I drove the car to a store, parked, turned the engine off and exited the vehicle. When I got out of the car it was smoking under the hood. A short time later the car was on fire in the engine bay. I'd say flames erupted approximately 10 minutes after I exited the vehicle.

My sons chevy Impala was in our driveway untouched for two days. When he got in it and turned the key to start the vehicle the intake manifold exploded and caused an engine fire. While online I found this has been a problem for years!!! why hasn't this been addressed? he could have died. And if I wasn't in the yard to react and put the fire out my house could have gone up with it.

My son's 2001 Chevrolet Impala caught fire when he was turning the ignition to crank the vehicle. He was at college in the parking lot and the fire dept. Was called and put the fire out. He claims there was a loud pop and smoke began rolling from under the hood. The vehicle has approx. 132000 miles. From reading a lot of posts this seems to be a common problem. We only have liability and don't have money to fix or buy him a new vehicle. He was not injured. Need help!! the vehicle is still in the parking lot at la. Tech university in ruston, la.

Takata recalli have called chevy about the recalls I have seen online but my car is not included. It is having electrical problems turns on and off , the security message keeps coming up to were it wont let me turn on the car. Ive seen may people complain about the issues I have. Ive been dealing with this issue for months.

The bypass valve going from the water pump melted. I was told it is because it was a plastic piece that was recalled and replaced with metal pieces. Right now water/antifreeze just leaks.

While starting 2001 Impala 3. 8 intake manifold exploded causing fire. Have read of many other cases online since this happened this morning. 1/7/2016. . If car had been in garage it could have been really bad. . . This should be a recall from gm. . . .

The ignition keeps locking out the cars ability to start. On numerous occasions this vehicle would not start after entering the vehicle. The lights would come on and when the key is rotated to the start position nothing would happen. Upon waiting for 10 to 20 minutes this vehicle will then restart. When taken to the garage to have maintenance done this vehicle never failed for them on twenty times of starting in a row. Took the car home and it sat and now it failed again. My daughter is about to be dismissed from her current job because of this constant failure to start. Lately, the time has grown. My daughter took a video of the incident and have taken it back to the dealer and they are not able to duplicate the problem. They said they had to jump it to start it and when questioned about it they stated it took them 10 to 15 minutes to gather all the equipment to get it to start. The problem would have resolved itself in that time. This is now becoming life threating as the vehicle stalls in traffic and an accident could happen. No codes are showing for this according to the dealer. This has been going on for approximately 5 months now and getting worse. In my opinion it is something to do with the ignition or security system. I hope nothing serious happens while my daughter is driving. This is the only vehicle she has for transportation. I am submitting this on her behalf.

As I was driving my abs / traction control light came on at 45mph I was braking and heard this weird sound I was slowly braking and the car wasat complete stop acelarating then my car powered off.

Well I took the car in t 10am for yemms to put the chip in the key and the car still doesn't start. So I took the key to get another one made tested and there was no chip found in the key. So now what the car doesn't move so I can't take it to yemms.

Since gm performed safety recall # 14350 on our keys we've had more issues with our 2001 Impala not starting which has rendered it unable to be started currently. This is my second time posting since I originally posted on 10/24/14 regarding the car cutting out while driving. Since that time we've been having issues with the car intermittently not starting or failing to restart after driving it a short distance, like going to the store. A few weeks ago we had to spend $140 on a new battery after the mechanics told us that was the starting problem. Two days later it once again wouldn't restart after stopping at the store for a few minutes. The mechanic came and checked the car and tightened the battery terminal connections thinking that was the issue. A few days after the car wouldn't restart once again after a short visit to the store. That time a tow truck driver tried to jump it but it wouldn't start, so it was towed to the mechanic. Once at the mechanics the mechanic tried to start it and it started right up. He kept it for two days and tried starting it numerous times and every time it started. Since bringing it back home we've had problems once again with it not starting even though everything seems fine and the battery terminals are tight. Today the key fob would not open the door remotely nor would the car start. I've been researching these issues and see where in many instances people have found the ignition/key fob issues are related to the pass lock system keeping the car from starting or cancelling the engine while running. Gm needs to address these issues which are causing vehicles like ours to either not start or have engine failure while driving.

We've had numerous issues over the last few years including intermittent electrical issues, engine cutting out, engine lurching, and difficulty starting. Two particularly dangerous times were especially scary -- one time the engine cut out, without warning, while my son was driving in traffic, on a four lane road, with children in the car. The other time was when I was driving down a hill in a snow storm at night. The roads were slippery and I lost all power including the lights and power steering. We've spent at least $2000 for diagnostics/repairs for fuel system checks, electrical checks, new ignition, new ignition wires, new a/c compressor (a/c wouldn't cool), and one fuel injector replaced. For several months it didn't cut out but the engine would still lurch once in awhile. Four days ago my husband took it in for the key recall and the dealer said that the fuel injectors needed cleaning so we had it done. The car ran fantastic. . . Until today when out of the blue, while driving down the road at 30mph, the engine cut out after going over a bump in the road. We called the dealer and they said to keep a journal of when the issue happens again.

After having the so called recall fixed the added weight from the new keys makes me have to lift the key up in the ignition and wiggle it to get the ignition to turn. I feel this new fix has just added to the ignition problems.

Car refuses to start. Security system locks up and it won't start for 10 minutes. Signal lights won't work when needed. May work one day, the next, no. This has been a problem for 6 years. The most recent episode was 8/13/14. I have had it in the shop 2-3 times after I bought it with no satisfaction. Getting really tired of this!! I really would like some answere to my problem. It is getting worse about not starting. On 3 different occasions, it took 20 minutes instead of 10.

I have researched that my vehicle has in fact have the same ignition starting issues also as other chevy Impalas. . When turning the key to start vehicle as to initiate engine run, the vehicle suddenly ceases electrical power to the ignition coil. Several minutes later & after a brief pause the initial turning the key ignition starts the engine. Further faq pertaining to this flaw with all similar chevy Impala all come to the same ignition switch engine turning on defects. All with different methods of turning buttons on & off as to individual success after repeated hail mary methods. As I have done so myself after every trouble shooting by several professional mechanics from professional automotive shops. Thank you for your assistance. Respectfully yours c. O. My infant and I was stranded for 3 days my car would not start all the lights came on but would not say anything. . When I investigated online I was informed thousands of people are having this same issue and it was the security system/ignition that locked me out of my own car . .

The plenum on the intake manifold was warped due to a bad intake manifold and now antifreeze and oil are being released and are caking on my max airflow sensor and map sensor. I have done research and this seems to be a common problem. I think it's about time that gm made a recall on it because it is not an easy or, for the people who don't know a bumper from a fender, it is a very expensive fix. Especially when you bring it to a mechanic and they keep charging you $300 to change your max air flow sensor and you don't know any better.

At times car not starting with key, have to use keyless auto start in those cases. Replaced battery and realized later that the battery wasn't the cause. Started doing it after had keyless entry installed in December, has happened multiple times. Didn't happen for several months but just happened yesterday.

I purchased this vehicle as is, it was in good condition regularly maintenance, and I went to work over 2 months of having it when I pulled in to my jobs parking lot the whole car shut of was very close to causing a crash and scary it happen a few times and I was to fed up with it not knowing what was wrong with it and no body could figure the problem out it eventually, lost my job because I was late to many times due to the car cutting off and making me late, I finally decided it was unsafe and junked it for $300 and now I hear about the actual problem that was wrong with it, I think I should be entitled to something without getting a laywer knowing the problem wasn't my fault, and the problems it caused. Security system is always locking up I have to wait 10 minutes before I can start car. . . I also know several other Impala owners and this is a problem for them too. . It's a very big inconvenience especially when you show up to work late because of it. . . It is so much of a problem I will never buy another Impala and probably never purchase a chevy ever again!.

We have a 2001 Impala that's been down for awhile everyone said it was the ignition swith so we changed it we also changed the hazard switch button and still nothing and the battery wont hold a charge when it was running battery light would flash on and off.

Was driving on interstate doing about 70/72 miles an hour when car shut off . Lost power steering, power brakes & lights. Managed to get it to the shoulder of the road & stopped. Car did restart. Car shut off several time after that when slowing down for a stop light or stop sign. Spent over $600. 00 trying to get it fixed. Feel gm should have advised their dealerships about the problem when it was discovered in 2004. If dealership had been aware of problem they would have been able to fix it instead of trying several other costly things. I would still be drive the Impala & not making a car payment.

We were driving off h-820 n in fortworth texas. . The car could not slow down nor could we control it. We ended up hitting the guard rail in one car accident and it was a total loss. Before that, same car was serviced by ignition problem by Chevrolet dealer off 1-20 in arlington,TX. . Still I was experiencing same problem.

2001 chevy Impala I went outside to start the vehicle and the battery was dead, it had enough power to power up the lights etc. However, it did not have enough power to start the engine. I than moved another vehicle up next to it and connected jumper cables. I waited for it to charge and turned the key. When I turned the key over, the plastic intake manifold violently exploded. I had a huge fire under my hood. The explosion shot parts across my yard. I had to use the water hose to put the fire out, the car was less than 10 feet from my home. I left it alone and contacted a dealership mechanic the very next day. I was told that they had recently had 2 of the same vehicles come in with the same problem, and that it was due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator and the fact that the manifold is made of plastic. This explosion could have very well killed someone. I have researched this issue, and found that there was a recall done on over 900,000 of these vehicles, however, when I contacted general motors, my VIN # was not included in the recall list according to general motors!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I have multiple problems and parts replaced on my 2001 chevy Impala 3. 8. Within 2 weeks of purchasing I've been battling abs, trac off, and service traction system codes for 10 years now and I've replaced parts over and over only for the lights to go out for maybe 30 days then come back on and stay on. I'm in the military and deployed for a year right after purchasing the car without extended warranty but 30 day warranty. I was told when I got back to bring it in because I had the issue 2 weeks after I bought it and they fixed it then it repeated in 3 months. 1 year later they said they wouldn't fix it and they would just find another broken part different from before and point it to that and not cover fixing the issue I bought the car with. So multipleshops and parts later I'm still replacing parts. Lr wheel sensor reads 0 and I just replaced the sensor again. . . . Now about to buy the wiring harness and try that again.

Previous complaint number 10955413 done on 2/18/2017. The ignition switch on my 2001 Chevrolet Impala as well as my 1989 Chevrolet caprice. Both vehicles have been purchased by myself with nothing being owed on either vehicle. The caprice stopped on a highway and was later towed to my parents house. The Impala stopped at the entrance to cedar crest nursing home in montgomery,alabama and it coasted into the parking lot in the rear of the nursing home just outside my fathers window who was a resident at said nursing home.

This complaint is an update to two previously filed complaints 10949546 and 10948110 both complaints deal with ignition switch issues both were reported as missing or stolen as a result of ignition difficulties. This serves as an upgrade to the complaints as being both stolen at this point due to the length of time that both vehicles have been missing.

I was driving along and the car suddenly shut the engine off. This was due to ignition switch problems please see case number 2:16-cv-00111-wkw-wc,smith v. Cedar crest nursing home et. Al. ,. The car was on a city street or highway in the city of montgomery,alabama.

While riding down the highway with the windows in the up position, the entire glass on the drivers side fell inside the door. Took car to be repaired and discorvered the regulator had broken.

Morning of may, enter car and tried to turn key to on positon to start, with no luck. Wiggle key in lock several times to finally release key so it would move into starting mode. This has been a major pain, it has gotton bad enough that key will just pull out of lock assembly even in running mode. Gm has know about this problem for some time,and should apply a recall on this item even as far back as my 2001 Impala, would hate to have car shut off during driving mode of just left stranded for a stupid ignition key assembly problem. Please try to help in this area. Thanks.
