1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2022

I was driving along when out of no where my trunk opened. I got off the highway and closed it. At that time I was puzzled wondering who had been in my truck to have not closed it correctly. I knew I hadn't been in it in awhile. It wasn't until a few weeks later when the "service vehicle soon" light on my dash came on. I went and had my vehicle scanned and was told about the trapalert system in the trunk and that is why my trunk popped open. I realize there was a post about this like a decade ago. But this is happening to me now and I can't find help for this issue anywhere. I've contacted both Chevrolet and gm support online as well as repair shops and no one seems to know what I'm talking about. Gm told me they don't keep info on vehicles older than 10 years. All the information online would suggest there is an actual sensor somewhere in the trunk although extremely vague on where it actually is and that it has a disable switch. Well, we've tore this thing apart only to find out it's some looped wiring that goes into the stereo amp in the trunk. I've yet to see a sensor yet for some reason my vehicle is still giving a single that someone is trapped in the trunk thus, popping the trunk whenever it wants. I've been searching high and low for information and already spent $1100 to repair issues to clear the dash light and nothing seems to work. Just a waste of time and money and considering this happened while I was driving 55mph I would think it obvious that its dangerous. Could we at least get some actual information without having to spend more than the vehicle is worth. Smh.

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Go to start the car, everything appears normal, you turn the key and nothing happens. There is power to everything but does nothing when you turn the key. No click or crank sound at all. Happens out of the blue leaving you stranded. Sometimes if you wait it out all of a sudden it will work like nothing every happened. Very bazaar. Mechanics unable to figure it out. This is a car our daughter drives and has been stranded alone at night. This is a safety issue. I goggled this problem online and found hundreds of the same complaint. The other problem is the wipers stay in up position on the windshield when your turn them off after it snows. Several thousand complaints about this problem on line as well. Causes a visiblilty issue. . Very dangerous!.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

You can be driving at any speed and all of the sudden your turn signals stop working. They will work well for hours then when you go to make a turn they either will not turn on or turn on for a couple seconds and then turn off. If you lightly tap the emergency flash button they will start working again but if you tap the emergency flash button to hard your emergency flash lights turn on. It really concerns me when I try to make a left hand turn on the highway in the fast lane and they stop working. I feel this is worse then the key problem gm has had because they work on and off at any given time without warning. I have spoke with a number of people with the same problem with the turn signals and they have advised me that it will run anywhere from three to four hundred to have repaired.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

Gm vehicles equiped with the passkey system may, and thousands do, experience a passlock system lockout, where the security system prevents starting of the vehicle, even when using the mfr's supplied key. The passkey sensor problem is recurring even after some consumers had dealers replace it. This defect in the passkey ii and iii as well as the passlock systems on gm vehicles has plagued my vehicle since 3 weeks after purchase. The dealer said I have to replace the passkey sensor, ignition control module, ignition switch, bcm and even possibly the ecm. I have checked with other shops and consumers via online forums and personal interactions, and have come to learn of 1000's if not 10,000's of consumers have this problem, and the dealer recommended repairs/replacements only cover up the problem for about a year. This problem prevents the owner from starting the car, as well as cause it to stall regardless of location or driving condition. This can result in loss of control and possibly leaving a consumer stranded in unsurvivable situations. This is a public safety and a health risk. Even when under warranty, the dealer refused to replace the 'recommended' parts as they were not covered under powertrain warranty, however they cause the vehicle's powertrain to not function or cease function when running just fine seconds prior. Gm has been notified of this issue by myself and to no avail, a resolution is unavailable. I had a friend of mine replace over 8 components of the ignition/security system at the dealer for a cost over $2500. The vehicle was 4 months old. My vehicle, at 9 years has had this problem for the past 4. Gm needs to recall all vehicles equipped with a passlock/passkey 2-3 system for replacement with a more reliable one. A google search turns up over 138,000 results for gm passkey problems. Gm passlock problems turns up over 85,100 results. That is 223,100 results. If I do vehicle specific, that number triples. Chevy passkey problems returns 1,340,000.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

I have a 2002 Impala and my turn signal works sometimes and other times it doesnt. My mom has a chevy maliu and her's was doing the same thing and they recalled it due to defective parts so I looked it up on line and gm has recalled other modles but not Impala. So I took it to a gm location and the guy told me they know its a problem but until they recall it theres nothing I can do but pay for it. It started at around 98,000 miles and I would almost get hit when I slowed down to turn after a while the problem went away I guess about 135,000 now its back again im at 182,000 and still no recall.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

I got my car on 03/09/2011. I have been complaining to the dealership about the issues I am having with my car. It hesitates to crank, when turning I can feel a popping feeling in the steering. Very often my signal lights doesn't come on. I do a lot of highway driving back and forth to work and this is very dangerous. When hitting my breaks the car sometimes speeds up before slowing down, which can be very dangerous. There is a shortage in the wiring. The low coolant level light stays on, even though they claim they fixed some sensor switch. They also said they fixed my car from leaking break fluid, but the breaks are sounding worst everyday. I asked them if the breaks needed changing and they said it was fine. The car hesitates when taking off. I just got home from work and not even 30 minutes went by before I tried to leave out and my car would not crank. I have been complaining to the dealership since I got the car and they have procrastinated until the 30 day warranty expired. When calling today the dealership said that I would have to pay for any repairs because the warranty expired. When asking why should I have to pay for repairs, when I have been complaining about these issues since I first got the vehicle, the reply was they are not going to pay that any mind and I would still have to pay for the repairs.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2009

We have a 2002 chevy Impala. The security light will come on while driving. When you turn the car off. It will not restart for about 10 to 20 minutes. This used to happen occasionally but now it's happening atleast 3 to 5 times a month. Have taken it in for service but they could not find anything wrong with it. They say it has to actually be doing it while they are checking it. Dealership says they have no idea why it's doing this. This has been occurring now for the last two years since we bought the car used from the chevy dealership.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2008

Abs light comes on frequently and when brakes are applied, it feels extremely unsafe. Brakes either do not respond or skid when attempting to stop. Afraid to drive vehicle. Had mechanics check vehicle and issue cannot be identified from failure codes. Appears wiring may be damaged and will cost quite a bit to repair. Mechanics unsure this will solve it. Don't want to sell vehicle as it will make it someone else's problem.
