general problems of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

The traction control system light has come on. It make a grinding noise, brakes feels like they are locking up and the power steering makes it hard to steer. It has happened when the car is in motion turning braking and steering. It has happenedpulling out from places on the highway and all streets.

Takata recall my car has been jerking every time it would switches gears. I didn't really think it was an issue until I researched and I seen all of people had the same problems. They all said the same thing it was the "transmission" well every time I drive I would be at a stop sign or at a red light. And when I get my go ahead my could would not move unless I put the pedal to the floor, even then my car will jerk back and peel out. Im afraid to drive my car, I think one day it might stop moving.

While driving down the road the car shuts off and power steering stops working. Has happened several times, luckily only at low speeds so far. I googled it and found tons of people saying the exact same thing happened to their Impala. Not cool.

Did you know the recall on the ignition key fix had only a one year warranty? they filled the slot with two plastic halves that snapped together and kept the key ring centered so it would not turn off the ignition if you hit a bump. My key came apart and I can not get it to snap back together. The dealer says the warranty is expired and suggested I glue them on the key. Has this happened to any one else?.

The shifter goes all the way to park but they key will not turn to the off position so you cant remove the key.

I have had many problems with my car starting to due a security glitch. For the past few years many times my car will not start because it technically thinks I'm trying to break into my own car. The security light starts blinking and when I turn the ignition it doesn't start. I have to turn the key to 'on' on the ignition and sit for about 10 or sometimes 20 minutes until the car starts. This has been very frustrating situation for me and depending on the situation I'm in it also could be dangerous. I've seen many complaints online about this problem with chevy Impalas in general.

Loud knocking noise on the left side of the engine and the dashboard gages dont work.

They did a recall the paper said ignition switch and they replaced 2 keys my car won't start without turning the key to on and wait 10 minutes 3 times. I went to the dealer and I was told my electrical system was all messed up and they charged me 500 plus dollars and still having the same problem . They told me to take it to a locksmith I did that before they told me it was a electrical problem. Now the dealer wants another 500 plus to put in a new ignition. I'm never doing another recall. My car was fine until then I've had the car since 2006 and it's been kept up by firestone. My son is in the army and it was the first car he ever brought and it was a great car. The dealer also did the 2nd recall while they had it now I'm told it's leaking oil. So disappointed 502 7591452.

The only recall I was able to find out was for the ignition,. My transmission just went out 11/19/2015, it will not switch into gear, it starts just fine no check engine light but left me stranded. Turned the car off and when I started it again it drove just fine, so I slowly drove it home. I don't get on the highway no more because it lacks power the get up is not there mind you yes I have 225k miles on it but I have had about 10 trouble codes and I managed to get rid of them all when I cleaned the tps, aic, and map sensor new egr valve, oil change tune up transmission flush all has been done this year and still on the highway it struggles, I did have one code that popped up 0420 so at this point I have been thinkin to just replace the catalytic converter when I get my taxes, but the problem is just getting worse and worse, so then I am thinking its the fuel pump, I mean my alternator is fine, I know I am sick of the security light always coming on, my left blinker only works in the day time at night never which is the weirdest thing, my windshield blades only work on the fastest setting, in the winter when it rains or snows my doors when we get inside to lock them the lock and unlock and the panel says door ajar when there is no door ajar,it will drive just fine as it nothing was ever wrong. Inconsistent and whats even weird is now the check engine light wont even come on after my transmission failed me in the middle of the road you would think the computer was able to record something. Once tranny fixd I will get the ignition recall fixed originally a loud noise was coming from engine like a screeching noise so I figured it was the alternator now that noise is gone but the minute I felt it wasn't the tranny, my car at the light would not go at all until I turned it off and back on. Please help me.

I have been experiencing a traction control problem. When I make sharp turns the service traction system light comes on, after this light comes on it pulls to the right and makes it hard to stop and even slides sometimes. I have replaced all speed sensors and replaced the wires and the problem is still reoccuring.

Ignition switch failure. Was going down the highway and my car shut off. Checked the starter and the battery and the engine, all are in working order. The switch has had problems since I bought it. It sticks bad is hard to turn.

The car started making a loud screeching noise, haven't been able to drive the car. The car would start for a couple of days and all of a sudden the battery was dead and its a new battery absolutely nothing when the key was turned. Had it jumped car finally started and the screeching was loud and cloud of smoke started. Turned it off wouldn't start again. I believe it is coming from the serpentine pulley.

The vats system will not let me start my car for 10 to 20 minutes. The system has broken down and my thinking is that gm should have a recall to fix the issue.

When I go to start my car I have no lights and no sign of turning over. Then I wait 10 to 20 minutes and I get some lights on the dash, then finally it will start. (this was happening June & July of 2015) now, I have lights, it just doesn't want to turn over. If it does try to turn over, it doesn't stay running. Wait 5 to 20 minutes then it will start. It usually happens after I have been driving then stop somewhere for a while, then when I go to leave I have the issues. But there have been times when I first start the car after its been sitting for a long period of time like over night it won't start this issue has begun around August of 2015 took to two different garages, one independent the other a chevy dealership. Neither want do anything because there are no codes, because of wasting money on parts that may not be needed, which I appreciate, but yet is frustrating. When I google my issue online there are many who are having the same issues. There are many different ideas on what to replace but no specifics. Seems like many are having issues with dealerships. . . . Stating chevy needs to look into the problem and have a recall of some sort. I can't afford to be replacing parts just to see if it's the problem. I have already paid $42 to the dealership to drive my car all day to see if it would do the problem. Online ideas are stating as simple as replace the gas tank cap to electrical system failure. I had similar issues back in 6/2009, code was read and they replaced the passlock sensor, then had to replace it again in 7/2010.

My service traction system and abs light stays on constantly when I am driving. I dont know what kind of problem this is could you possibly tell me some information and if there's a recall.

Service traction system light has gone on a number times and then went off again. Now, when it goes on the abs light and the traction off lights also go on. They usually go off while driving. These warning lights do not always go on. If they are going to go on, it will generally be on start up. Today all three lights went on at start up, but the service light went out and the abs and traction lights remained on. Turned vehicle off, then back on and the two lights remained on. I've been told it's a common problem with Impalas, you can spend a lot of time and money trying to figure out the defect without success. I'm worried that our safety might be in jeopardy.

I haven't been physically hurt because of this ignition switch re-call but it has has made me displaced for days on end because the car wouldn't start. I've missed work on more than one occassion and then I'm being told by gm that the part isn't built, there isn't enough to go around, it's like what are we as gm owners suppose to do until the part and then wait to see for the chevy house to call to replace the part. Why should I have to be displaced and disholved but I won't be compensated unless I'm hurt? this makes no sense I didn't ask for my car to have issues of this sort but yet I'm missing time off of work because the work won't crank. What can be done about my issue even though I'm not physically hurt?.

When I started my car Friday after getting gas, the security light came on. When I was finally somewhere safe, I shut the car off and restarted it. It started just fine and the light did not come back on. Today (Sunday) I left work and drove 4 miles to get my daughters check from her work. I left the car running while I ran in and grabbed the check. The moment I got back into the car I noticed the security light was back on. When I got home I shut the car off and restarted it. It started just fine and the security light did not come back on.

I was out running errands. I turn on my left turn signals and it was not working. I depressed my hazzard switch, and turned it off and turned my left turn signals again and it started working. I have been having this problem off and on since the beginning of July,2014. I have read numerous complaints about this same issue. This is a safety issue that gm needs to address today!.

I leased the car 5/10/2014 and I had seven occasions where the car simply wouldn't start and the check engine light came on over night on its own which caused the battery to die.

I own a 2004 cheverly Impala an in February while driving up tha high way my keys just like popped out of the ignition my car lost power and I hit the gard rail at 60 mph my air bags didn't come out. Me n my girlfriend was in the car . On July 1st I find out there's a recall on my car I tried contacting a few cheverly dealership companies near me an I've been denied any car repairs.

The key switch is bad some times after it is started all dash is not working and security system is locked and you have to shut it down some times more then once have been told the key switch is bad I ask someone at g. M. If they could send me the switch but told me I had to take it to a shop did that and all that was done is put a pice of something in the key that did not help that the switch is bad is there any one that can help or just send me a switch I can put it in.

Car would not start security light blinking ,let it sit for 15 minutes then it starts, really disappointed .

The vehicle owner alleges that he hit another vechicle at 60 mph injuries were to his back, leg , head and chest. His head hit the windshield and chest hit steering wheel. The air bag did not deploy.

As I proceeded west down richmond Ave the young lady was pulling out of her job parking lot. She was trying to head east on richmond Ave. , but she was talking on her cell phone and also looking west instead of the direction traffic was coming from. As she proceeded to cross 3 lanes of traffic without looking in the right direction and talking on her cell phone, I start to blow my horn as well as trying to merge into the far left lane to Dodge her from hitting me. That was a failed attempt she still ends up smashing into my passenger side panel along with the front bumper and tire. No airbags ever deployed.

When I tried to turn the ignition key nothing would happen this happened 3 separate occassions. After sitting for several minutes it would start this also happened to my brothers 2004 Impala. Took it to my mechanic and he fixed it with a new ignition switch have had no trouble since then. The part cost $195. 95 and the labor was $100. We took our cars to 2 different mechanics and was charged the same price with the same problem.

My speedometer has stopped working which is definitely a safety issue. Also, I have to wait 10 minutes or longer for my car to start because of the security system. I am requesting a recall on these vehicles as there are many consumers with these same problems on the internet. Thank you.

For several months now, more often when slippery winter conditions exist but this can happen even on perfectly dry road conditions. When I back out of my driveway and put my Impala into drive and start to accelerate the dashboard warning light for traction control and abs braking systems. This happens with a noticably loud grinding noise in the front end. Automatically I release the accelerator and the systems half the time seems to reset itself as the grinding noise stops, the traction control light goes out and the abs warning light goes out as well. I begin to accelerate with no problem at that point. The other half of the time the lights all stay on for the length of my drive, with the grinding subsiding when I release the accelerator. I took the car to a Chevrolet dealer, explained the situation and they told me it may be a speed sensor going bad. They would have to diganoise it and possibily replace the sensor and quite a large cost. I argued that if my brakes are not working properly than this may well be a safety issue and Chevrolet should repair the problem for free. No chance. I took my car to another dealer with the same result. Pay for the repair.

I have been having problems with my 2004 Chevrolet Impala off and on since I got it. There are times when I turn the ignition off and it will not start. The dash and lights will work, but when I turn the key over it does nothing. This just recently occurred while I was out of town. I had to leave the car and go back for it 2 to 3 hours later, and it still did not start right away. I got to my hotel room and turned the ignition off and immediately tried to restart it and it failed again. After tossing and turning all night and worrying that I would have to call a tow truck, the car started the next morning. I dared not turn the ignition off until I made it home safely. This was the scariest incident of them all, a country girl being stranded in the city. I notice that other 2004 Impalas have the same problem. It would be nice to get the problem taken care of.

When I try to start my car, it will not start. I have to wait 10 minutes and then try again. It is getting worse and I have had to wait up until one hour to be able to start car. I have taken it to the dealership where I purchased it at on three separate occasions to try to get the problem resolved and they have not fixed it. Sometimes, I can go a week without this happening and at other times, it happens to me several times in a day. I have been late to work countless times due to this and been inconvenienced. It is scary because I am not sure if it could be an electrical issue or what else could happen as a result of this defect. I'm not sure if the problem could be the key, ignition switch or something even more detailed.

I have a 2004 chevy Impala and security light blinks on and off. When it does this my car won't start I read online if I leave the cars key turned over for 10 minutes it will start but here lately its getting worse. I have read online and there are a lot of other people with the same make and the same model that are having the same problem. When hooked up to a computer it says nothing is wrong with it. I have talked to 2 different chevy dealerships and they just bring up hooking it up to a computer. I think it should be recalled if a lot of people are having the same problem. Speedometer on 2004 acting erratic or non-functioning at times. Malfunction occurred with 86281 miles.

Chevy Impala - speedometer keeps messing up. Stops working when I am driving. Will going 55 and when I stop the speedometer doesn't always go back to 0. Next thing I know I am in a 35 but my speedometer is reading 90mph. An online search has found that many other have the same issue. Far to many for the same type of car.

I enter an intersection on a green light. The other party turned in front of me even though he had a red turn light. I hit him head on into the passenger side of his door. I slammed on my brakes but impact was almost immediate. My airbag did not go off. I sustained permanent nerve damage in both my hands and arms.
