Failure Date: 02/04/2016

My wife's 2007 chevy Impala left her stranded on the side of a busy highway in a snowstorm. She was driving at highway speeds when all of a sudden, her overheat warning light began flashing, and what she described as "a huge cloud of fog or smoke" was trailing behind her. She immediately put on her hazards and pulled off to the side of the road. Once stopped, the digital readout showed "engine overheat, idle engine" and then the engine shut off. The vehicle is at a dealer awaiting diagnosis.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v092000 (power train). The failure mileage was 100,000.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

Reduced engine power/ traction control warning/ gas line fuel leak. This car flashed a reduced engine power message while I was going 65 mph straight away on busy city (in houston) freeway and the traction control warning light came on. My car then immediately reduced speed and would not go beyond 40 mph. I was told that the gas line fuel leak has nothing to do with it but it seems very coincidental that this all happened in the same day. Gm is putting out a lot of trashy vehicles right now and this should definitely be a recall; especially when there are numerous valid complaints of the same issue. I'll never by gm/chevy again. I am going back to an imported brand.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

This all started when the factory battery went dead so I went and purchased a new one about a week after I went out one morning to leave for work and it wouldn't start had to be jumped. So later on I checked for a drain on the battery and found out that the radio the interior lights and the display where causing a drain. So I had all three checked all tests fine so I purchased another battery and was good for about a week then all the sudden the radio died and all the auditable sounds stop working the next day went out to try to start the car and nothing happened only had headlights and interior lights wouldn't start. So I put it on a charger for a couple hours tried it again and it was completely dead like there was no battery in . Come to find out that the bcm ( body control module ) was shorted. Now I've got to find a new and figure out how to get it up to dealership to have it programmed.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I was driving down the road suddenly check engine light came on speed reduced get a reduced power/traction control message and speed drop to 40 in matter of seconds engine running very rough. Almost caused a accident due to this happening at the morning rush hour on commute to work. I looked online this seems to be a common complaint that there needs to be something done about it. I have had other issues (steering mid-shaft failure front end shimmy, brake issues, connector to rear defrost melting, wires in shifting console breaking to where couldn't remove keys or get out of park) with this vehicle and called gm about them and they assign a case number and tell you sorry you will need to pay and keep receipt if there is ever a recall issued.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

As I was driving the engine light came on and the display read reduced engine power. The car slowed down and resisted as I accelerated. I can only drive about 20 miles per hour. There is no warning and there is a decrease in acceleration. There was no warning and I have my child in the car. This is very dangerous.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2012

Slip in torque conversion around 30 to 45. Also, you'll be taking off from a stop and when you start to press the gas it delays, then slams into motion almost like being hit from behind.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

Returning home from work on interstate noticed it took higher rpms to get up to the 65mph speed limit. After driving for a few minutes I stopped at a red light. The vehicle could then only get up to 40mph and lost power down to 10mph when I pulled over and called it a day. Currently at the shop with 10 different codes showing. Unfortunately I have had it jsut over 5 years and not in warranty any more.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2012

Exiting the dartmouth street parking garage (underground) on dartmouth st. Boston, MA. Exit ramp is a moderate incline. As I approached the garage attendant booth to pay parking fee, I let off the accelerator letting the car coast to a stop while I retrieved the parking time/date receipt. When I located the receipt (about 5 seconds) from the center console I looked up to find the car was rolling backwards down the ramp toward a concrete wall (by this time) approximately 15 mph. Note: I am a 50 year old, (male) retired police office and was trained in radar speed enforcement including certified in speed estimation and I am also "evoc" (emergency vehicle operator course) trained. I was able to stop the car before hitting the wall, another vehicle, or any pedestrians. I feel a tragedy could have occurred had someone been walking in the garage. The car seems to have no ability to "hill hold" when in "drive" at idle. I was shocked at how fast the auto accelerated backward. I have personally driven approximately 750,000+ miles without an at fault collision. The car seems to do this whenever on an incline and on a few other occasions had occurred in parking lots rolling (forward as well as backward) as soon as shifted out of "park" in the fraction of a second time that it takes to move my driving foot (right) from brake (due to park interlock) to accelerator. Note: this auto is a 2007 Chevrolet Impala ss with 5. 3l v8 engine and four speed automatic transmission. My primary concern is that Impalas are generally driven by elderly drivers with slower reflexes than myself. I have further found numerous online forum discussions of this issue by owners of all engine equipped Chevrolet Impalas.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the key became stuck in the ignition with the vehicle engaged in park. The contact notified the dealer who advised that the shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 63,000.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2012

This car has less than 100k miles and chevy dealerships refuse to diagnose the issue with the transmissions and there are multiple complaints about this issue this car is unsafe. The issue is random jerking of the transmission upon taking off in traffic, at light, or from stand still has caused: (a) my wheels to spin, (b) the car to pull into the next lane, (c) almost rear-end collision with car in front, and (d) sudden rapid acceleration in traffic. The car I almost rear-ended was a 2007 chevy police Impala the officer exited his car asked was there a problem I told him about the transmission issue and he stated "yea mine does that too this car isn't a safe one" this need to be addressed nationally.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Shift gear sticking would not move. Stranded at 1 am in the morning.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2011

Slip in torque conversion around 30 to 45. Also, you'll be taking off from a stop and when you start to press the gas it delays, then slams into motion almost like being hit from behind. * did not know about this site. Had it to the dealer 3x, they said they found nothing wrong. It is sporatic and does not happen daily.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

First, when I slow down to turn a corner, I take my foot off the gas. After the turn, when I press the gas I have no power. It doesn't die, it just won't go anywhere for about 15-20 seconds, no power. That doesn't sound like a long time unless you are sitting in the middle of a busy intersection. I have to come to a complete stop for about 20-30 seconds, then take off. Sometimes it goes, but feels like it jerks into gear. That's ok at stop signs but stop lights that turn green as I approach can be dangerous. Also, if I turn a corner onto another street, it hesitates. And sometimes I have almost been hit from behind. People expect you to turn and proceed. When you just stop, they may not. I also noticed one day, when I just coast on a level road, my car sometimes accelerates for quite a while, instead of slowing down immediately. I once took my foot off the gas at 45 mph and coasted on flat road for 2. 5 miles. The latest related problem is. . Spring 2013, twice, I turned a corner and it just died. I had to pull over to the side of the road to get out of traffic. After a few minutes, it cranked back up. Thankfully, I was on a city street and not a four lane road. I also have problems with parking. I put my foot on the brakes and pull into parking spot. When I put it in park, it lunges forward. Or if I stop in traffic, sometimes it lunges after it stops. I have to make sure that I leave plenty of room in front for this problem. I think it has something to do with the computer allowing the gas to flow or stop. I had the transmission rebuilt and it still does it.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

While driving on the interstate, a message was displayed saying "service traction control" and "reduced engine power". I was using cruise control and it shut off after the messages were display and I was unable to stay at the speed limit or accelerate quickly if needed. In another incident, I was driving and the two messages displayed and a few minutes later the engine shut off completely. The power steering was not working and the engine was not responding. The only way to get the car running again was to shut it off and wait several minutes until it would start again.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

Reported that car would jerk (kick into gear late) when accelerating from stop to start. At 74,000 we made our first claim with local dealer. They couldn't duplicate the concern. Brought car in two more time because it got worse. Felt like someone was hitting me from the back. My car often kicks out of gear on a left turn. On two separate occasions, I was almost t-boned. They never found the issue until 121,000. That was when they declared that the transmission needed to be replaced. Gm doesn't want to cover the repair now that the vehicle is out ofwarranty. I have researched and found way too many transmission issues with these model vehicles. Gm really should investigate this concern. I advise anyone to pester gm about this concern. Afterall, we are the consumers. Unfortunately it's too late for me, I don't trust their products anymore.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park, the gear did not shift to drive. The vehicle was towed to the dealer royal Chevrolet, bridgewater NJ, 732-356-2460, where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness corroded. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer in new jersey, where it was diagnosed that the electrical wiring harness corroded. The vehicle was repaired again. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was about 5,000.
