36 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

While on my way home from work on a major highway, message lit up saying engine power is reduced, service traction control, then said starting disabled and the engine shut off mid highway with no time to react. I was almost hit by several cars, tractor trailer, and buses. I had no power steering, nothing. I have 5 children who are often in the car with me and this created a mess of traffic and could have killed people. After being scared out of my mind and stuck half in a highway lane for 5 min with traffic swerving, the car started back up with no issues and I continued home. No sign of anything today, however I am reading thousands of complaints online from other chevy Impala owners who state they are experiencing the same issues and it comes and goes and have tried everything to fix it and it still happens every so often sometimes more than others. Someone is going to lose a life.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

Driving on interstate vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not accelerate & quickly decelerated with any prior warning. 18 wheeler almost rear ended me. Instrument panel displayed “engine power reduced”, “service traction control,” “service stabilitrak”, and “check engine light. ” finally exited interstate safely and shut down engine thinking it was going to blow up and after 2-3 tries to restart messages disappeared and vehicle seemed to be ok. Took vehicle to mechanic & found codes evidencing the loss of communication between the tac and or the app units causing vehicle to go into limp mode but could not get the condition to reoccur. Mechanic had to remove codes to permit to duplicate problem, could not duplicate and told me to wait until reoccurred. While looking for repair shop was scared it would happen again received letter from gm stating if the above condition had occurred they would fix. Called gm dealer mentioned letter they refused to repair unless the messages were present on panel, refused to look at the vehicle. Called gm customer service referencing letter, explained gm dealer refused to repair. Was told by angela issue was safety related problem but gm would not admit to safety issue. Gm agreed to pay for one hour of diagnostic time to determine if vehicle qualified for repair, dealer was unable to duplicate problem, refused to repair. Called gm and was told no repair would be made even though the problem had occurred as stated in the letter and to wait until situation occured again then not to start engine and tow to gm dealer. Was told gm would not pay for tow or inconvenience and if they could see codes they might repair problem. This is definitely a safety issue since when this occurs the vehicle loses all power and basically shuts down and will not accelerate beyond 5 mph if at all. Leo nelson 937-554-9778 noslenlsn@gmail. 38 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

While driving onto a highway when I reach 56 miles per hour my vehicle lost power and slow down the brakes locked and the electrical system went haywire. The locks started locking and unlocking while the vehicle was in motion. The lights started flickering on and off and the car started shaking rapidly and the brakes locked up. Once I started the vehicle back up and the ignition switch seemed to be stuck and the air bag light displayed on the dashboard. When I turn off the vehicle and try to remove the key the key will not come out so I have to put it into neutral and back into park a few times before it will release the key. Since this has occurred I hear a knocking sound in my glove box when the door is open and closed and sometime hours after ill hear the noise and the electric will flicker.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

This is the 3rd time: while driving, speed reduces dramatically, service engine indicator comes on followed by warnings: "engine power reduced" and "service traction control". My research on the issue to find out how to fix, shows many people having the exact same problem that isn't getting resolved by gm. Engine power reduction to such a dramatic speed can be extremely dangerous for not only the operator of the affected vehicle, but also anyone else on the road near the driver.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

On my display I have seen daily (service traction action) and (engine power reduced) along with (service airbag) for more than a year, did not service due to cost and it is not my fault! my car usually slows down once the engine power reduced displays causing the car to jerk due to me trying to give it more gas so as not to be hit from the back. As my grandchildren and I were headed home on the freeway my car decided to just shut off. On the display it read first. . Service traction action and then starting disabled service throttle. My car immediately lost power and I began to pray hoping I would not get hit from the back with my grandchildren sitting in the back. Once I pulled over my car would not start I sat for about a minute and tried to start again and it started. Just today 01/12/2015, with my grandchildren in the back of my car again my car decided to loose power again but this time it did something very different, it would not allow me to first reverse and then it allowed me to but soon after I could not go forward. The gas peddle acted as though the car was completely turned off but the car was running. When I attempted to press the gas peddle I pressed it all the way down to the floor, nothing happened. I ended up calling a towing service and after telling them what happened I was told my issues stemmed from a electrical system issue that chevy had recalled. This does not make any sense for so many of us to go through the same issues but nothing be done about these issues. Something needs to be done quickly!!.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

Was driving when the traction control light came on and message came across saying service traction control: then check engine light started flashing rapidly at the same time. Follow by a very loud knocking noise from the engine. Then speed would not accelerate. Turned on flashers and coasted into parking lot. Vehicle had troubles restarting and would not move. Steering wheel was hard to turn. Tries to die while idling after you get it to start. Did diagnostics and code p0300 random misfire detection power train unable to establish a link to the vehicle. Fuel system 2 is ol, lift at 0%, spark plug 13. 5, fuel level low 38. 8, ecu 14. 417, low acceleration. Contacted local chevy dealership and was told it will cost $35 to tow it to their shop and about $85 just to run a diagnostic on their machine. If it is a lifter the cost will be over $700 to get fixed. I purchased this automobile in August 2013 and have just had it a year. So now I have a car payment on a car that doesn't run. I bought it at wk motors in sedalia, mo. This is the second time this car has had issues and without a warranty the dealership wont do anything!!!.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Traction control light comes on. Power is reduced. Car runs and drives well. Driving on interstate the light comes on and cuts power. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the highway. We waited 5 minutes and the car started. The light went off for a day and then came back on. I hear of people replacing parts and the problem not being fixed. I can't afford to do that.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

This incident has happened several times leading up to the check engine light remaining on. As I would be driving down the road at approximately 45 mph. The vehicle would suddenly start to jerk to accelerate and decelerate without me wanting to change speeds. Several of these incidents have been while I was driving in traffic. Then the message "reduced engine power" and "service traction control" would appear on the dash and the traction control light and check engine light would come on and stay on. This would also cause the car to reduce its speed and cause significant acceleration problems. I replaced the accelerator position sensor as indicated by a code look up and haven't had anymore problems with the car as of October 25, 2014.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Was driving car and traction control light came on and then check engine light. Lost power and brakes. Car was able to stop but very hard. Glad nobody was in front of me or I would have it them. This is very dangerous and I think there should be a recall on the throttle body and sensors. I did have it fixed but had to take it to several dealers to figure out if it was the accelerator pedal or the throttle body. It was the whole throttle body unit.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

I was driving home on the freeway at about 70 mph and the service engine light went on with it saying "reduced engine power" on display. About 10 seconds later I could not accelerate, the car began to start slowing down and I lost ability to maneuver the steering easily as the steering wheel locked up. I was able to pull off on the side of the freeway and I had to turn the car off and wait about 10 minutes for the problem to clear up.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

What happened is the vehicle traction control triggered and reduced the cars functionality and speed. It cleared itself, but what concerns me is this problem is prevalent in gm Chevrolet vehicles ranging from 2005 to 2011. It is listed many times here in your data base to your organization. Our lives and safety are involved here. Focusing on charging a fee to do an investigation is deplorable. Lives are at stake here. This should not be another american after the fact occurrence or event. What happened to proactive responsibility. These american car makers produce junk cars and the consumer constantly get stiffed with lemons. States lemon laws? nothing but american lemons are rolling off of the production lines. You think, this may be why other countries will not buy our products. There is no reliability in what is produced or manufactured and the customer service is lip service. Non - existent with these car dealers and pure sales rhetoric. Your site reads: the information you provide will be used to identify potential safety-related defects or determine the adequacy of existing safety recalls. I can't afford the repairs, pay for an investigation as well. I am not pleased with how the ball keeps getting passed or dropped. Nhtsa these poorly produced weapons weigh tons. Rolling down the poorly maintained highways and streets of this country endangering us all life and limb. My vehicle has the same problem with the traction control that forces my car to brake , pull to the right and slow enough to endanger my well being. I'm truly scared and concerned here and the repairs and code lights aren't reliable. Only the repair shops are winning. The problem keeps repeating after thousands are spent to keep the car running. I need this car for work. If it cant get me there then they will come and take the junk back I am trying to maintain. Thank you.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

The problem started in January of 2014. As I write this I want to say that I have read all the blogs on my complaints and see that I am not alone which forces me to ask gm why is it that we all see the elephant in the room and you people are ignoring it. Suffice to say this problem is a safety issue would be the understatement of the century. When will gm step up to the plate and make these issues a priority so there customers don't have to waste time writing complaints like this one. It's really very simple my engine light is on along with the stabilitrack light as well as the car losing all power. Now if gm feels this is not a good enough reason to create a recall I fail to see what is. People just like me have been complaining about this for years and gm does nothing. Along with gm being at fault the dealerships are raping there customers while they go thru a laundry list of items they think might be the problem for these codes. I for one cannot afford the dealership prices nor will I pay these so called experts good money after bad to try and fix problems that they really have no idea as to what's causing them. I originally bought this chevy b/c I wanted an american car for a change, man was I wrong. As soon as I fix this heap I will sell it before anymore lights go on and go right back to Honda where at least I know they stand by there cars and it runs way into the six figures before any real problems occur. I'm one of the little guys that bailed out gm and by the way were still paying taxes for that bailout. How about it gm, don't you care about us at all?.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Traveling on highway at 70 mph. Service traction, reduced engine power, service engine lights came on, car was shaking, everything was shutting down. Fortunately it was not rush hour and I was able to pull off road. I was on a toll road that aaa can not respond. I waited about 20 minutes and started the car and everything was fine. Took car to our mechanic, there was a service bulletin, to replace throttle body assembly. Since then, 2 letters from gm about covering cost of throttle sensor, but not assembly. Gm is not taking care of the real problem, the whole assembly needs to be replaced, not just the sensor! I've kept the part and invoice and letters from gm, they should just recall before it turns into a class action lawsuit!.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

While my wife was driving (with my three kids as passengers) at highway speeds the message was displayed in the dashboard "reduced engine power" and "service traction control" messages were displayed. The vehicle immediately last power and the speed was reduced to less than 30 mph, while on the highway. She was able to navigate to the shoulder and call me for assistance. By the time I got there and started the engine it was running normally except for the "service engine soon" light was lit. I took it to the nearest Chevrolet dealership who immediately stated it was a faulty electronic throttle control and would cost $580 to replace. I searched on-line and found dozens of complaints exactly like this one for 2008-2012 model Impalas'. There is not a recall on this problem so the customers are getting charged to fix this faulty Chevrolet device. Someone is going to get killed if they do not recall this device.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

I was driving on i95 merging onto 175 in columbia, MD, my speeed was 65mph. My "service traction control" light and "reduced engine power" light came on and my car shut completely off. I had no control over the car, could not apply breaks. I put the car in park and turned the ignition switch to off for a few minutes. Luckily there wasn't any traffic behind me cause they would have hit me and killed me. I waited about 5-10 min turned the car on proceeded to my destination. The check engine light stayed on. I called the service department at bob bell Chevrolet on kane street in baltimore. I was several miles from there they couldn't come get the car so I drove it to them. They had my car approximately 2-3 days and could not replicate the incident. Since this time it has happened 8-10 times or more since may 11, 2014 I've called the service department and was to continue to drive it, they can look at it, no codes registered in December when they looked at it so they don't know what's wrong. They want me to bring my car in but don't want to give me a rental. This is too dangerous. I am scared everytime I get behind the wheel of my car.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

My issue was that I was four months into driving my new 2009 chevy Impala and while driving on the highway going about 60 mph my car showed flashing signal reading "engine reduced speed" "check stabilitrack " and my check engine was on. The car then stopped accelerating and dropped to 45 mph immediately. I was nearly rear ended with my son in the car. After researching and hearing complaints about gm and how they are not taking responsibility of this safety issue and actuality charging people to fix their defect. Their are numerous blogs and videos proving this. . Read more...

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2013

When I pressed down on my accelerator pedal (speed limit was increasing from 50mph to 65mph), a message of "starting disabled. Service throttle" came up on the dash. The accelerator pedal and steering wheel completely locked up and the car started to decelerate. I was able to force the steering wheel in order to turn onto a side street (narrowly avoiding a car stopped in the left lane to turn) and park the vehicle in a location out of the main lane of traffic. Had this side street not been there at that exact moment, the possibility of a crash would be very likely as steering was unresponsive and I may have been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of engine power.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

While driving on the freeway the engine reduce power light came on and seconds later the car lost power. This has happen several times. Today 1/30/14 this has happened 4 times. This is a safety hazard! I've seen several complaints about this issue, people are spending hundreds of dollars thinking the issue is being fixed and the problem is never fixed. At this point it looks like 100 of people will have to lose their life before a recall takes place. As a single parent (my children's only living parent) this issue shake me to my soul!.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after approximately 30 minutes and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body switch was faulty. The throttle body switch was replaced and the defect was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,600.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

I was driving down the highway, and the traction control light came on and the reduced engine power light came on. I drove a few miles further going about 65 miles and hour, and the engine died in the middle of the highway. I had to pull the car off the road with no power steering (I was still rolling thanks to momentum) so I wouldn't get hit by another car. After I sat on the side of the road for a few minutes, I was able to start it again and drive it about 10 miles back home. Our repairman said the throttle motor signal came up when he plugged it in to the computer, so we spent the $280 to replace it. It worked fine for about 4 days, and then the traction light and and reduced engine power light came on again a few days ago. We've got it in the shop again and are waiting for the news as to what it is this time.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

I was driving through a hilly/ curvy area of road when my reduced engine power, traction control, and throttle body diasabled message popped up. Just then I have no power, no brakes and no steering,at all! I almost crashed with my two kids in the car! upon looking up this issue I find that it is a very common issue in Impalas. Some people have had this issue while passing cars, or the freeways and more. To me this is quite a safety concern since you have no power to do anything. . . Nothing at all. I don't see how there is still no recall on this issue when there are so many reported problems and a huge safty risk!!.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated then the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted 20 minutes later. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician detected that the accelerator pedal, accelerator position sensor connector, and fuel vent solenoid was faulty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
