I received an alert to service the sideview sensors. Also, the sideview alert keeps flashing in the side mirrors even when there's no vehicle present.
Service side detection system came up on the display while driving on the freeway at 65mph.
Side detection system failure. I have had 3 harness replacements on driver side. 2 harness replacements on passenger side, and a module replacement just 2 years ago. This failure causes my instrumentation to shut off, turn signals not work, and shuts off cruise control when in use. I have read outher more extreme cases like engine compartment fires or car shutting off while driving. I believe all these should be considered safety issues. I have owned this vehicle since new.
The side detection module has just failed out for the second time in under 2 years, 20k miles on my 2014 Impala ltz. The first time it failed (less than two years ago), the side detection indicator on the mirrors started to go off randomly, and then eventually, I was unable to reliably lock/unlock my car. Eventually, it wouldn't even start/shut off (push to start), and the entire dash was off even when running. It messed with seemingly the entire car's electrical system, and made it unsafe to drive (imagine if I would've been on the highway and the car shut down, plus I didn't have any gauges at all). As stated, this system (and side detection module specifically), has corroded and gone out again, despite this module supposedly being better sealed. I had a gm dealership replace the entire system with their kit, which was out of their specialty 80k mile warranty for this system, as they realize it is flawed but refuses to recall it. This kit was approximately $1000 installed, and I am again looking at the same price for a flawed system that gm is totally aware of and one that has safety implications and makes the vehicle undrivable.
My blind spot detectors went out, now as a result most of the electrical stuff no longer works. The car powers on and drains the battery randomly and the speedometer doesn’t work. Every light comes on from front camera, abs, and even power steering. I didn’t feel safe taking my kids to school and now I don’t feel I should pay $1,300 out of pocket.
Every year the side sensor goes bad. . This causes vehicle to loose important factors while driving. Headlight go off and on. Speed goes to 0, all codes flashing, gas and ram gone. Car also locks and unlocks randomly along with no heat or air. . This has happened twice even after fuse is pulled while waiting on yet another $1000 repair. This is so very unsafe. Car needs to be removed from roads or side sensor part coverd.
Module kit needs replaced due to water getting in it. . . Had been replaced less than 5 years ago.
Messages for “service side detection system” and “service rear vision system” appear web vehicle is turned on. Side detection system as well as backup camera are both non functional. Gm knows about this issue and had a recall/ warranty repair program. However I was never notified to bring my vehicle in to have this repair done, and now I believe it is past the date that was set to have repairs covered. Will be contacting gm to have these things potentially fixed.
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Impala 2014 ltz with 75000 miles on it. About a week ago I got a notification saying "service side detection" I lost my side detection on the side mirrors. Now my lane departure camera stop working and now my part assist for the rear camera has also stopped working. What's the point of paying more for a vehicle to be safe if all of the safety features start to fail.
My car has had a the side detection modules fail every 1 to 2 years since I've owned the car new in 2014. The dealership has repaired it for free every time now for at least 5 times. Now that the car is not under warranty they refuse to fix it for free. This is a problem with the design and engineering of the car and it is very costly to fix. The problem will continue to occur since the manufacturer refuses to find a permanent solution to the issue. It is related to the placement of the unit and it is affected by the environment and corrodes.
Side detection system failures. Repaired side detection systems 2 times ( 2017/2018 and again in 2020) both times gm reimbursed for repairs under technical bulletin. Repairs were supposed to be using “redesigned” parts to prevent issue from reoccurring. Side detection system requires service again in February 2023. That is 3 times this failure has occurred in 8 years of owning this car. I have been told not too drive this vehicle with this issue as more serious issues can happen - dashboard failure, engine issues, etc. Which can cause serious issues while driving. Even though gm extended the warranty for this, it doesn’t seem fair that I have to continue to pay repairs for a defective system …. . Especially when I cannot drive for safety reasons. If this were just cosmetic, not that bad an issue. But this is a safety concern.
Passenger airbag lights stays on even when its no one in the seat, also the blind side warning does not work with the already know defective sensors. Need fix to ensure my safety of me and my family.
Vehicle : 2014 Chevrolet Impala VIN: 2g1125s35e9251623 on 04/08/2022 the side detection failed warnings appeared on dash warning system. General motors initiated the warranty repair noticed ( n72097060 ). I filed a complaint with gm on 04/11/2022 ( 9-7584960349 ). On 04/14/2022, I was informed by gm on the phone, that I was not covered. Their warranty ended o8/2021? the vehicle also must have under 80,000. My vehicle has only 55,638. I was never contacted by gm of this fault. I am the original owner. I have read that the fault issue can cause fire to the vehicle. Also other electrical issues as unable to unlock the car doors. ( which I am expierencing ). I also started a complaint with the bbb ( 17048359 ). I will take to my gm dealer on 04/18/2022 for repair at my cost. I think gm knows of this safety problem and liable for the cost. I have been told gm has designed a new module that is water proof, thus correcting the problem.
Side detection module malfunction. Causing electrical issues and error codes. When happening headlights turn on and off without control. Huge safety problem when driving at night!.
Side detection modules failed due to water intrusion. Verified by lynch Chevrolet mukwonago WI service dept. No warnings. Just system failed chevy will not replace under previous service bulletin. Want me to pay for full replacement.
51,000 miles. System has failed three times. First two covered by warranty. Not under warranty now. There are numerous complaints about this problem. It will now cost me up to two thousand to repair. Car is at risk of fire, failure to start and other major electrical problems. Dealer wants $140 to diagnose, I am afraid to drive this car.
Started getting service side detection system warnings. Learned there has been a problem with this blind spot system. Gm fixed it until Jan 2020 they say expired and my mileage was too high v problem just started last week of Feb 2022. 134k miles on it. Everything ran great but there are warnings from 2 years ago of dangerous repercussions from this defect. They won’t fix it and we can’t afford to have them fix it. I never got any notice of the problem from gm.
My blind spot light on my side mirror was flickering, and now it just stays on. I read online that the sensor in the bumper can overheat, causing a fire, but Chevrolet doesn't have a recall on it. I ended up shutting off the blind spot sensor option on my car. I utilize the sensors, especially on the highway when I travel. There hasn't been a warning light go on as of yet.
Side detection module has falled. . . Yes it is available for inspection. . . My wife got locked in the car on a 80 plus degree day and could not get out, doors would not open, trunk release would not open trunk so she could crawl there the back seat, sunroof would not open, power steering periodically feels like there is no power stearing, dash lights periodically shut off when driving. . Yes, morries forest lake Chevrolet and cadilac. Forest lake. Mn. . . No it has not been inspected by anyone but the dealer. . . There were no warning lights untill 51,000 miles or 8 months ago.
My blind spot warning system has stopped working. This same year vehicle was recalled in other options (I have a Impala ltz). Just curious why the ltz was not recalled? I don't imagine it is a different system.
When I drive down the road my blind spot detection sensor goes off and lights up in the passenger mirror. It lights up if there is or is not a vehicle in my blind spot and has made me swerve back because I think there is someone or something in my blind spot. I have looked into this problem and it seems that there can be other issues that stem from this malfunction. I have owned the vehicle since 2019 where I purchased from a certified Chevrolet dealer and was not informed of this problem. This problem started to happen about 8 months ago and I reached out to where I purchased the venicle from with no response back from the salesperson I purchased thru. I don't want to continue to deal with this dealership and not get a return call from them. I have not had any other dealership look at this problem but I really need to find someone that can and will take care of this for me. I don't feel safe sometimes when changing lanes or letting my girlfriend us my vehicle to goto the store, or even take her child to school or sporting events he is involved in. I have done some searching on my own and seen that Chevrolet knows about this issue but I still have not received any information about this problem that has been going on for quite a bit of time.
My dashboard reads, service air bag. Everytime I turn it on as of this morning. 6/23/21 @ 1pm central time. I've read about the recall on these models as well of air bags deploying and throwing pieces of metal at drivers. Cause of molded air bag housing.
This is the 2nd time this occurs in 3 years . This occurred after it was raining the sensor is in a bad spa or and gm is not taking fault because it is over in miles and yea for the special coverage . I wish that I could just not have the blind spot detection. Causes more problems then what it's worth.
Have had car at dealership 3 times total for the side detection system message/blind spot indicator lights. First two times the issue was fixed because I have the mpp coverage plan. This time mpp would have covered it but mechanic shows water intrusion. Their was a recall at one time for vehicles up to 80,000 miles. Mine has 124,000 so not covered but when I took it in for the same thing prior did not have 80,000 miles. So either pay the $900 or pay the diagnostic charge of $155 and walk away with issue not fixed . So many complaints on this and gm has done nothing. If I have fixed the module is over $200 for the one side. It keeps going out. Gm should fix this and create another recall for this all so common issue!!.
When I purchased my car in 2020 I noticed that my blind spot warning light in the passengers mirror was turning on and off. I informed the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from and they said that they would repair it. They had mentioned that there was a defect in the blind spot monitoring system and that they would replace it before I bought it. Within 6 months the light would turn on and off again when there was no other vehicles in my blind spot. For the last year I have been trying to research this problem to resolve the issue. The only thing I have been able to find is that the sensors in the rear bumper for blind spot detection were produced with a faulty seal to keep moisture out of these sensors. If they know that these sensors will collect moisture and cause them to short out then why is there no recall on these sensors? I have had many times that I was driving and went to change lanes when the blind spot monitor would blink to inform me that there is another vehicle there. It has caused me to start to change lanes then have to pull back to avoid something that is not even there. I would think that this is a serious safety issue and might even cause accidents, if it hasn't already happened to other owners? I would like to know what I can do for this issue and to know if I'm the only driver with this problem? this is a problem that has gotten worse over time and gotten to where it happens every time I drive my vehicle.
The issue started out as a warning from the side detection system. In the past week, the issue escalated to all the warning lights on the dash coming on, and then all electronics going dead/dark. The turn signal indicators have no lights and no sound, the radio system is dead, the speedometer and gas gauge are dead. After sitting a few hours, it seemed that things "reset" to just the side detection warning. Most recently, all the electronics are acting strange. Pushing the button on the door handle to unlock it, does nothing to the door lock, however, the display screen shows "tire learning active". When attempting the start the car by pushing the start button, nothing happens. If I put the fob in the slot inside the armrest, it will eventually start, but again all display functions are dead as is the environmental controls (no blower - no defrost- no good on a cold rainy day). Again the signal indicators are dark and silent. The indicator light for the airbags is now illuminated as well. Gm had a short lived (and seemingly secret) extended warranty for the side detection system have this exact issue when water got into the sensors, but that expired nearly a year ago. As this issue makes the car unsafe to drive, it seems that it should be a full recall to address this safety concern.
Issues with blind spot system, sometimes causes all power on dash to shut off while driving, have read many many other people with the same issues online. Sounds like the blind spot monitor modules are trash, but not recalled. . . .
We have had several problems with the blind spot sensor on our 2014 Impala ltz. Problems would always occur when driving in rain or snow. Dealer would just say that the sensor gets wet and that we should try to dry it off. Once the sensor was dry it would work ok. Now the sensor does not work at all. Took it off and it was full of corrosion. Reading online regarding reviews I find out that this is a very common problem with gm vehicles but gm refuses to do a recall. However they did do a special offer to replace the sensor if you have less than 80,000 miles. My car has 85,000 but I have dealt with this problem for several years. I replaced the sensor myself (at a cost of $400) and now they tell me it has to be reprogrammed. That really sucks. It is too bad that gm just can't accept the fact that they have a faulty product. I am currently waiting for a call back from the dealer to see what it cost to get sensors and wiring harness replaced (gm admits that there definitely was a problem and says you have to replace both sensors and the wiring harness). How in the world can this not be a recall!!!!!!!!!!!.
For the second time since purchasing this vehicle new, the blind spot detection system is failing. When this system fails it slowly takes out the rest of the vehicles electrical systems, even those not related to any collision avoidance system. The first time I had it repaired it was out of the original warranty meaning I had to pay the approx. $1000 bill. A year or so later received a letter from gm saying that that repair would now be covered up to 6 years/80,000 mile and if I had already paid for such repair that I could file a claim and they would reimburse me for the previous work. Well amazingly they reimbursed me for the first repair, which was great! except now, the same exact thing has happened again and I am now past the 6 year 80,000 mile mark. Gm needs to redesign this system to not be placed in high moisture areas or at the very least have a module/connector that is not susceptible to water intrusion.
Rear blind spot system failed, causing most electrical systems to also fail. Headlights, wipers, rear cross traffic, speedometer, instrument cluster, inconsistent gas pedal operation.
The blind spot detection isn't working on the passenger side. Usually it doesn't come on at all, and every once in a while it'll come on randomly and stay on and not shut off even when the car has been turned off.
The front camera collision, lane departure, blind spot warning system are all part of an electronic system that warns the driver. In 2014, Chevrolet located these modules in the rear bumper and did not sufficiently protect them from the weather elements, so water gets into them and can cause a fire, and failures from losing your dash gauges to the vehicle not starting. Chevy was nice enough to issue a service action, but limited to a 6 month time frame for repairs. They issued n172097060, which was available from April 2019 to January 2020. This was nice if it failed during that time. Mine failed for the first time in October 2017, which was repaired under warranty, and again in April of 2020, which was just out of the warranty period. Chevy said they would not cover this safety issue again because I was out of the n172097060 recall due to time, not mileage. I believe that this should be covered for a longer period of time because it is a safety issue. I was reading that there was a letter sent, but I never received it. I would have brought the car to the dealer the next day, knowing about the problemm.
Blind zone alert sensor failed due to manufacturing error that lets water into the sensor and corrodes it and causes it to smoke and potentially catch fire.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the side detection module failed to operate properly while driving. The contact drove to joe holland Chevrolet & imports (210 maccorkle Ave sw, south charleston, wv 25303, 304-744-1561) to have the failure repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were not available and were on backorder. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000.
