Cruse control deactivates and won't reactivate while cruising at highway speeds. Seems to work again after shutting off and restarting. This has happened several times. Last time it happened the engine also died. Coasted to the side of road, waited a minute and car restarted and seemed fine, but happened a second time a few minutes later. I was on a state highway with light traffic so was in no immediate danger, but would hate for this to happen on a busy six lane interstate. No diagnostic codes were set by the computer system.
My check engine light came on while driving. I told my car to the mechanic and I was told my mass engine airflow needed to be replaced. Two days later the check engine light was on again. Return to the mechanic and was told my O2 sensors needed to be replaced. Replaced as recommended. I was driving down the highway and the light came on again along with a message that said reduce speed. At this point, my car slowed down by itself while I was going 60 miles per hour. I could not accelerate. Luckily there were no cars behind me. Reviewing the Chevrolet forums and Impala forums, this appears to be a known issue and gm is not doing anything about it. Reading some of the stories, I consider myself lucky. Airbag the passenger airbag light has come on and will not go off. I took it to the dealership, and they told me that if I am in an accident, the airbag will not deploy because the car isn't recognizing someone is in the seat. They said to me that gm issued a recall for this problem; however, my car was not included. I spoke with a gm representative who confirmed the recall. The gm representative said although the code is shown on the diagnostic performed at the certified dealer my VIN was not covered; however, they offered to cover half of my cost. He told me that if gm expanded the recall to include my VIN then I could send in my receipt for a refund.
Sensors on the back bumper went bad due to moisture getting in, screwed up electrical system which is the brains of the vehicle. Chevy needs to recall this car, tons of owners are having this exact problem. My vehicle is currently in the repair shop and the sensors are not available due to the overwhelming number of customers that are having to purchase them. The repair shop cannot even be given an expectant date that the sensors and wiring heirness will be available. Recall theses cars chevy, they know this is a manufacture defect, this is a $1500 fix that the customer is left to pay. When they know tons of customers with this vehicle are having the very exact some issues. My vehicle was in motion when I experienced the issues.

With no particular trigger, my sensors started to fail one by one. Then, my radio touch display went out. Now, my car will randomly shutdown while driving, go into theft mode, or have the entire dash system malfunction, leaving me with little to no functionality other than steering. A detailed thread of the issue and others having these issues can be found in the following forums. . Read more...
