4 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/04/2025

Service side detection system came up on the display while driving on the freeway at 65mph.

5 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/03/2025

Side blind zone alert (szba) system continues to be an issue with this vehicle. Sensing module(s) on inner left or right side of bumper cover fail due to water intrusion. When sensing module fails, "service side detection system" message will appear on driver information center on instrument cluster. General motors has previously issued a special coverage "n172097060", which is available on NHTSA website. As indicated in the special coverage document, if the issue is ignored, "the condition could result in the corruption of LS gmlan that may result in the loss of some driver interface functions such as cluster, infotainment, displays, chime, and passenger presence detection (passenger airbag could be suppressed). Within approximately 30 days of the "service side detection system" message, while driving, instrument cluster speedometer and tachometer went dead, and airbag warning system notification, anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring system all illuminated. In addition to no speedometer reading, vehicle ignition/security interlock was causing vehicle to run rough. Vehicle would not immediately restart after shutting vehicle off. This is the 4th time a sbza sensing module has failed on this vehicle. First failure was replaced under factory warranty, second failure was replaced under special coverage n172097060, third failure was replaced out-of-pocket. Contacted general motors/Chevrolet, and they are not interested in providing continued coverage of the issue, which is a known issue, and likely a design defect, as the design was changed for later model years.

6 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/31/2025

Side detection system failure. I have had 3 harness replacements on driver side. 2 harness replacements on passenger side, and a module replacement just 2 years ago. This failure causes my instrumentation to shut off, turn signals not work, and shuts off cruise control when in use. I have read outher more extreme cases like engine compartment fires or car shutting off while driving. I believe all these should be considered safety issues. I have owned this vehicle since new.

7 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/07/2024

Gm has a know issue with the side detection system and refuses to do anything about it even after there service bulletin expired. When this fail it can cause other issues with the dashboard system failure and more. In this case the system would never shutdown draining the battery.

8 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/06/2024

The side detection module has just failed out for the second time in under 2 years, 20k miles on my 2014 Impala ltz. The first time it failed (less than two years ago), the side detection indicator on the mirrors started to go off randomly, and then eventually, I was unable to reliably lock/unlock my car. Eventually, it wouldn't even start/shut off (push to start), and the entire dash was off even when running. It messed with seemingly the entire car's electrical system, and made it unsafe to drive (imagine if I would've been on the highway and the car shut down, plus I didn't have any gauges at all). As stated, this system (and side detection module specifically), has corroded and gone out again, despite this module supposedly being better sealed. I had a gm dealership replace the entire system with their kit, which was out of their specialty 80k mile warranty for this system, as they realize it is flawed but refuses to recall it. This kit was approximately $1000 installed, and I am again looking at the same price for a flawed system that gm is totally aware of and one that has safety implications and makes the vehicle undrivable.

9 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

My blind spot detectors went out, now as a result most of the electrical stuff no longer works. The car powers on and drains the battery randomly and the speedometer doesn’t work. Every light comes on from front camera, abs, and even power steering. I didn’t feel safe taking my kids to school and now I don’t feel I should pay $1,300 out of pocket.

10 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/26/2024

Every year the side sensor goes bad. . This causes vehicle to loose important factors while driving. Headlight go off and on. Speed goes to 0, all codes flashing, gas and ram gone. Car also locks and unlocks randomly along with no heat or air. . This has happened twice even after fuse is pulled while waiting on yet another $1000 repair. This is so very unsafe. Car needs to be removed from roads or side sensor part coverd.

11 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/19/2024

The blind spot warning system stopped working, and yes it is available for inspection upon request. I have heard this leads to further electrical problems and am worried this may compromise my safety if not dealt with. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer. The component has not been inspected. There was a warning that popped up stating “service side detection system” that appeared randomly on my drive home the other day. I had not hit anything or done anything to the car that might have caused this.

12 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/27/2024

Module kit needs replaced due to water getting in it. . . Had been replaced less than 5 years ago.

13 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/23/2024

The side detection system failed. Both rare modules are shorted. The defective module drain out the battery, causing engine start failure. And the defective module may cause fire. I have one side of the modules repaired in three years ago. Now both sides are failed. I had two jump start in the recent month. Every time I start the engine, warning for service of side detection system shows up.

14 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/21/2024

In April 2019, the side detection module was replaced under warranty, at 21,500 miles. The same ‘issues’ are reappearing, where a warning is illuminated on the side mirror when no cars are present. If the dealer/ mfr replaced the original modules and wiring harness with the same items, this would only delay a reoccurrence. I called chevy cust. Sec for assistance, and they said their ‘recall’ program expired in 2019. The car currently has just 47,000 miles and the the modules should not have failed a second time. There is obviously a design flaw, allowing water penetration, and chevy did nothing to prevent it.

15 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/27/2023

Messages for “service side detection system” and “service rear vision system” appear web vehicle is turned on. Side detection system as well as backup camera are both non functional. Gm knows about this issue and had a recall/ warranty repair program. However I was never notified to bring my vehicle in to have this repair done, and now I believe it is past the date that was set to have repairs covered. Will be contacting gm to have these things potentially fixed.

16 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

The side detection system modules are preventing the vehicle blind spot system to work correctly. And the vehicle takes 5, 10, 15 + attempts to start up.

See all problems of the 2016 Chevrolet Impala 🔎.

17 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Passenger side blind spot monitoring light consistently stays on even when no cars are next to me. Dangerous specially on the freeway. Took it to dealership said it wasnt covered. Notice the samething happening to alot of the Impala online. Please help.

18 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/22/2023

This system failed causing the cars computer to go haywire. I lost my speedometer and total dash display while driving.

19 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/06/2023

Have had issues 2 times since owning this vehicle, both times sensor was replaced by dealership. Was told by service at dealership that this is a known issue for gm. Dealership found side detection modules swelled and connections corroded. Again for the 3rd time since owning this car from new. They, the dealership, cost the replacement of the module at $980. 00 including labor. To fix an issue they have known about for years.

20 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/05/2023

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Impala 2014 ltz with 75000 miles on it. About a week ago I got a notification saying "service side detection" I lost my side detection on the side mirrors. Now my lane departure camera stop working and now my part assist for the rear camera has also stopped working. What's the point of paying more for a vehicle to be safe if all of the safety features start to fail.

21 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/01/2023

Side blind zone alert module, service side detection system.

22 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/22/2023

I have had the blind spot modules replaced two times already and they are out for the third time. I have had to replace them like just over every 2 years. This time I had loan my car to my daughter, due to any accident she had with a deer, and had her four kids in the car when multiple modules started shutting down and nearly leaving her stranded. When I was able to inspect the car I found the the blind spot modules where extremally corroded and showed signs of melting to almost catching fire. I believe that these are a safety issue, and need to be recalled and problem fixed with a reliably solution. I am a ase certified master technician and have been for well over 38 years. And have seen many of these gm modules go bad multicable times.

23 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/13/2023

My dealer is charging me $1606 for 2 sidevew detection modules caused by water damage and corrosion and that’s not covered under my extended warranty for my 2015 chevy Impala ltz 108k miles my cars has trouble starting and I have no working dash indicators no speed no gas no temp no rpm’s air bag light on and trac control on light . No turn indicators and no heat or ac and key fob don’t work unless I insert key fob arm rest slot all because of the sideveiw modules wow that is mind blowing $453 to diagnose and $1606 to fix.

24 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/09/2023

My car has had a the side detection modules fail every 1 to 2 years since I've owned the car new in 2014. The dealership has repaired it for free every time now for at least 5 times. Now that the car is not under warranty they refuse to fix it for free. This is a problem with the design and engineering of the car and it is very costly to fix. The problem will continue to occur since the manufacturer refuses to find a permanent solution to the issue. It is related to the placement of the unit and it is affected by the environment and corrodes.

25 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/07/2023

System failed suddenly stabilitrac , abs power steering, side detection all flashed on dash . Had to replace computer to restore power steering and stabilitrac and abs . Side detection a safety item still inoperative.

26 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/25/2023

Service side detection notice came on, after replacing twice. While driving on the highway my speedometer dropped to zero. My odometer stopped advancing. My blinkers stopped working, as did my radio. Speedometer went to 12 (while driving at highway speeds) stayed at 12.

27 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/25/2023

Side detection system failures. Repaired side detection systems 2 times ( 2017/2018 and again in 2020) both times gm reimbursed for repairs under technical bulletin. Repairs were supposed to be using “redesigned” parts to prevent issue from reoccurring. Side detection system requires service again in February 2023. That is 3 times this failure has occurred in 8 years of owning this car. I have been told not too drive this vehicle with this issue as more serious issues can happen - dashboard failure, engine issues, etc. Which can cause serious issues while driving. Even though gm extended the warranty for this, it doesn’t seem fair that I have to continue to pay repairs for a defective system …. . Especially when I cannot drive for safety reasons. If this were just cosmetic, not that bad an issue. But this is a safety concern.

28 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/20/2023

My side detection system has failed and not working on my 2015 ltz. Blind spot light stays on even when car is off. It’s causing other lights going crazy on and off. No check engine light on just the side blind spot indicator lights stay on. My car only has 70k miles it’s been happening for 1 wk I’m afraid to drive it after reading online that a clients Impala nearly caught on fire. I’m reading that there is a recall with 2015 Impala # n172097060 side blind zone alert module water intrusion. Please advise if there is anything chevy/gm can do for me. I’m afraid to drive car and feel it’s a hazard driving around with faulty blind spots light.

29 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/24/2023

Side detection system is failed. Used for blind spots and I know this can cause more issues with car.

30 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/21/2022

Side detection fault. This is an acknowledged problem by gm but they will not fix my car.

31 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

Passenger airbag lights stays on even when its no one in the seat, also the blind side warning does not work with the already know defective sensors. Need fix to ensure my safety of me and my family.

32 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Taillight gasket failed and leaks water resulting in water leaking into trunk anytime it rains or go through car wash. This caused corrosion to the amplifier shorting it out, there is now no sound or on star available. It also caused the blind spot detection monitor to have issues and no longer work. Upon inspection when the vehicle is running the wires sometimes start smoking white. Dealer said there was no issue, obviously the radio doesn’t work, the screen doesn’t even light up, no backup camera, no sound warning if the forward collision system is engaged, no seatbelt ding, no blinker sounds, no rear detection system or cross traffic warning system.

33 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/08/2022

Vehicle : 2014 Chevrolet Impala VIN: 2g1125s35e9251623 on 04/08/2022 the side detection failed warnings appeared on dash warning system. General motors initiated the warranty repair noticed ( n72097060 ). I filed a complaint with gm on 04/11/2022 ( 9-7584960349 ). On 04/14/2022, I was informed by gm on the phone, that I was not covered. Their warranty ended o8/2021? the vehicle also must have under 80,000. My vehicle has only 55,638. I was never contacted by gm of this fault. I am the original owner. I have read that the fault issue can cause fire to the vehicle. Also other electrical issues as unable to unlock the car doors. ( which I am expierencing ). I also started a complaint with the bbb ( 17048359 ). I will take to my gm dealer on 04/18/2022 for repair at my cost. I think gm knows of this safety problem and liable for the cost. I have been told gm has designed a new module that is water proof, thus correcting the problem.

34 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

All the lights are flashing on dashboard. Car won't start. No gages work on dash. Lights won't work blinkers don't work. Radio panel is black. I had same issues in 2018 and had to replace detection module and harness on both sides. Paid $1200. Now I am having the same issue again.

35 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

Service blind spot detection system alert come on I took it to the dealership and paid 95. 00 to diagnosis they wanted 1900. 00 to fix the problem 2 weeks later while waiting for an appointment the entire system is failing forward collision warning, lane departure warning ,and parking collision warning. The dealer now wants another 95. 00 to re-diagnosis seeing as only the blind spot was the only warning at first. I'm being told this could lead to the vehicle shutting down even while driving.
