Unknown Or Other problem #1

I was driving home from work on my 2009 Impala, I was already concerned becasue the car had the reduced power engine and traction control enabled display. When all of a sudden I get a message saying disable throttle boy and the star felt like it was going to stop. The good thing I was on the slow lane so I was able to pull over . I dont understand why my car is doing this and why gm is not issuing a recall to fix this problem. They probably need someone to die so that they can take this serious.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

The vision out of the back window is very poor since there are 3 head rests in the back seat. The center one blocks much of the vision. It is easier to see a truck or an SUV behind you but hard to see another car especially the smaller type. The side view mirrors are much smaller compared to the 2003 I use to own. I was totally happy with my 2003 which is why I got a used 2011. I have added on the small stick on mirrors but they do not help much. Why can gm make such a change? to me this is a big safety issue. Looking on the internet a lot of other 2011 Impala owners have the same issues. Gm saves money with no regard to safety.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

I have a 2008 chevy Impala lt with 33,619 miles on it. It has the goodyear eagle ls2 tires it came with when I bought it new in 2008. I recently had a rear leaky tire so I took it to a garage and they repaired it. While it was off the rim I noticed what looked to me to be very excessive wear to the inside sidewall of the tire. It was so unevenly worn it shocked me. I could see cords from the belts in several spots. The mechanic and I checked the other rear tire and found it to be in the same condition. He advised me to get them replaced soon as possible and to rotate the tires more often. We checked the front two tires and found them to have nearly twice as much tread and no sidewall damage that we could see. Today I purchased two new tires and the mechanic who installed them suggested I get a rear wheel alignment as this make and model are notorius for rear alignment issues. Being skeptical I decided to research it myself online before committing. I was shocked again to see so many people complaining of the same issue and gm's lack of response to the problem. I decided to write to this agency and voice my concerns. What if anything is being done to look into this? does someone have to be injured before anything gets done? my dad used to say whats right is right but gm's denial of a problem is not right. In this troubled economy especially, big business should be held responsible when they put out a product with issues that impact the safety and pocketbook of their customers. 2008 chevy Impala $27,000. Two new tires $254. Future alignments and parts, labor, etc - ?.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

I drove my car to work and it cranked fine. I got in it to go home and it wouldn't start. I replaced the battery and it still is happening. Some time it cranks and sometimes it doesn't. I just wish someone would help me figure this out.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

Recently bought 2007 chevy Impala for son. This car cannot stay on the road in wet/snow conditions. It fishtails and is scary to drive. I've lived in wisconsin all my life and drove many different cars but never a car as dangerous as this.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

White spade connector for rear defroster wire burnt/melted inside connector harness. Located under passenger side kickplate under fuse panel 2006 chevy Impala. Possible small electrical fire due to improper connector unable to support rear defrost electrical amperage.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

Speedometer has started to fail. Spdometer registers 80 when parked and well over 120 while driving. No way of knowing how fast the vehicle is really going.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

Sirs vehicle has just turned over 62,000 miles replaced 4 sets of tires tires wearing out from camber caster problems in rear end g. M. Has not had a recall except for 20,000 police made cars mon. 11-28-11 a gm person finally said you have warranty for 100,000 miles take car back to dealer and tell them to fix the vehicle this car has no value anymore dealersw not adverizing them for sale anymore in maine papers, they know of the problems. You folks have to demand that g. M. Recall and repair every car 2007-2008 Impalas with problem one set of tires on this car wore a strip 2 inches wide from outside edges toward center in 4 months my mechanic who was changing the oil called me out to look at them, he had put them on the car. They were down to canvas and steel belt, my wife drives this vehicle and she never noticed anything this was shear chance inspotting problem I feel this is very dangerous problem. A high speed blowout on inter state, the onlym place she drives fast to visit kids would have been catastrophy. Please take action on these cars 400,000 plus sold and over 20,000 to police which were re-called and fixed best regards albion goodwin pembroke, maine 207-726-5574.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

The heat on the driver side of my car will not come on but the passenger side blows like a champ. I took it to the chevy dealership and they said the door that flows cold and hot air is stuck on cool air and since its a dual air vehicle one side is blowing hot the other cold. I am very surprised this is not a recall since there are over 1,000 complaints on this one part please do something about this; I've been a long time chevy owner and I understand that things happen after driving but this is crealy not a driver induced problem. Thank you from a vauled customer.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

This vehicle is very difficult to maintain control when applying the brakes due to the warping of the rotors. After reasearching information on the rotors to a 2009 chevy Impala lt, I see that there are many complaints about constantly replacing them on this vehicle. At first I thought it was my brakes, but after paying that "over-the-head price at the dealership" to inspect further, my suspicion led me to believe that it could have something to do with my rotors; the findings were that it was indeed my rotors and not just 1, but all four. Something has to be done about this because no one should have to constantly replace rotors, due to some poor engineering on certain components. I almost got into 3+ accidents trying to apply my brakes when drivers decided that they were going to engage in poor, life-threatening judgements. Applying the brakes to these easily warped rotors, even when coming down from a speed of 50, causes the pedal, steering, and entire car to shake as if there was an earthquake or you are basically like fred flinstone and using your feet on the roadway as oppose to your engine.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

I have a chevy Impala and the service traction light comes on, the traction off light stays on and the abs light stays on then when you use your brakes it is like the brake is pushing your foot back up. This is going to cause someone to get hurt. I have replaced the wheel bearings 5-6 times in a year. It will work for a very few months and then it starts all over again. Last Thursday I had put an expensive set of the wheel bearings on it and brakes all way round on the car. It did not make it out of the shop before all of these lights started coming back on. So I had new wheel bearings put back on it again today and it is still doing this. Gm needs to have this problem fixed. They should do a recall and fix this problem, from what I can read on the internet there is a lot of people having this same issue and it is costing everyone a lot of money.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Traveling at highway speed on 2 lane road, check engine and traction control lights illuminated then vehicle shut down. Lights and radio worked but vehicle would not turn over. After approximately 15 minutes vehicle cranked and started and was driveable. Took to Chevrolet dealer who made repairs by replacing 24 terminals. Verbally told me that there was corrosion on wires on this 2 year old vehicle with barely 60,000 miles. Had this happened on a multilane interstate highway shutting down like this could have been very dangerous.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

This car is a accident waiting to happen, whoever thought of putting a stationary middle headrest on this cars backseat was either 7 feet tall, or has never backed out of a parking space in it! my 5'2" wife had a fit after driving it today. I bought it 9/14/11 without her. Anyhow, for gm to let this car on the road without a backup camera or being not able to remove that headrest is just irresponsible. Drive one and you will see exactly what I mean.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

My Impala will not heat in idle position,no early morn defrosts for me! took to dealer ( 10/18/11) he found a leak, replaced a hose. It was good for a while, now doing again, (10/28/11), going back in shop on 11/3/11. Also car will not heat when remote starter is used, comes up to temp everytime just doesnt blow hot air, this has been reported to them, they tell me thats "normal", what??, im sorry, but isnt the purpose of remote starters, for regulating cabin temperature? I will see how these two issues are handled on thurs, I have this funny feeling I will be back here on this site for the same issues.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

I was wondering I hear a clicking sound on my air conditioner what could it be and could that be a recall. I can't turn on my air conditioner because I am scared that my car can catch fire.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

Security light comes on and car will not start for extended periods of time.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

My well-maintained 2002 chevy Impala, 3. 4l v6, base model shut off a couple days ago while driving on the highway. I was accelerating, as the traffic was finally picking up. That's when I felt the car jerk and suddenly shut off. It was horrifying - the brake pedal & steering wheel locked, so I forcibly turned the wheel with all my strength, coasted to the shoulder, with two near-collisions, pressed the emergency brake, then shifted to park. The red battery symbol was illuminated on the dashboard as if the key was set to "on", but no check engine light. I noticed the headlights and the dash lights were off, but I believe that's because the car shut off (which is what would normally happen after shutting off a car with auto-off lights). Several attempts to start only resulted in sounds of a car struggling to turn over, but never actually turning. Eventually the car studdered, but started. I was back in highway traffic, and after a few minutes of driving, it shut off again. Same drill - coasted off the road, and several failed attempts to start before finally starting. Back on the road, a few minutes later, it happened again. After 2 more episodes of this, instead of struggling to start, the wasn't even coming close. The car radio and hazard lights were still working. Which led me to believe that constant starting attempts may have exhausted the battery. After a successful start, I was able to drive it home, using local roads for fear of a highway crash. 25 minutes later, the car was still running just fine. It didn't shut off again until I was parked at home and idling for a few minutes. Everytime it shut off, I'd see * check engine light, * warnings from the mil, though it's fully functional. The next day I moved the car for alternate side parking and it started up just fine, no hesitation. Several more starts since Monday - no hesitation or problem. I'm afraid to drive it long for now, for fear of an imminent crash. This could be fatal.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

I drove to the dry cleaners and turned off the car. When I came back the car wouldn't start with the key. I had had the problem before. I let it sit for about 10mins and the car started with the key.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

The rear visibility both using the mirror and turning your head is compromised by the middle headrest located on the back seat. It should have been designed to be removed but is made into the rear seat. I believe it is an accident waiting to happen. The other two headrests also make it hard to see. I really believe it was an all around bad idea by GMC. I also get a film on my windshield like I've been smoking but nobody in my family smokes. I suggested to the dealership that it may be the heater core but they assured me it couldn't be the heater core. They told me to keep washing the windshield and it would eventually go away.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

Failure of the electronic brake control module in a 2003 chevy Impala. Could be dangerous, and after doing some internet searching, appears to be a common problem and very expensive to repair. Car has less than 100,000 miles on it. Also, transmission failed at about 80,000 miles.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

Electronic - first problem was airbag light staying on - after at least 4 trips to dealer - problem fixed - now radio is locked and somehow connected to door locks and security system - apparently this is an issue for this model and needs recall.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

I bought my car used with 40,000 mile on it. The tires were perfect when I bought it. 9,000 miles later, my front tires kept going flat. I looked at them and the entire inside of the tires were worn through. I took it to the local tire shop and they told me the tires wore like that due to a bad alignment. My steering seemed fine. The manager of the shop came out to tell me that many of his customers with Impalas have similar issues. A extra long factory installed camber bolt causes the vehicles to become un aligned, and causes excessive wear on the tires.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

The speedometer has gone haywire. You cannot tell how fast you are going. The rpm gauge is going haywire as well. It jumps all over the place. Took the car to the dealership but wouldnt you know it the warranty expired with no written notice from warranty company. The clusters are the root of all the problems and Chevrolet needs to recall to repair the issues described. Another alarming problem with the 2005 chevy Impala I own is what is called the passlock protection. It also does not work at times and I had to find out ways to bypass the passlock on youtube. This could turn into a dangerous situation if you need to start you car in an emergency and you cant because the passlock will not let you turn on the car. Sometimes you have to wait ten minutes with the key in a certain position. That is totally not acceptable.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Our 2002 general motors Chevrolet Impala has the reported and well known intermittent issue known as the passlock failure regarding general motors security module which occurs on many general motors cars made from 1999-2005. The passlock failure happens intermittently and is difficult to diagnose and fix/resolve but is reported on the internet. The passlock failure seems to be tied to the 'security' light on the dashboard, however it has been seen that the 'security' light can come on from time to time while driving with no problems but not always. The passlock failure is observed in 2 scenarios: 1) while driving in traffic the vehicle may stall, leaving the driver without power steering or power brakes, also the 'security' light on the dashboard will be lit. 2) after getting into the car it fails to start, the engine will not turn over but electrical instruments all appear to work okay, the 'security' light on the dashboard will be lit. Frequency of failure - the frequency of these two failures is unable to be predicted, it has occurred multiple times in one day, multiple time times across 2 days and then may not occur for weeks or months. The issue can occur in winter, summer, fall or spring. Temporary correction - when the car fails to start then this issue may be able to be resolved temporarily by using another key ( a spare key should be stored in the car for safety) or the driver must wait about 20 minutes with the key removed from the ignition and then the issue will be temporarily resolved until the next time. Research into this failure has shown that this failure is not able to be replicated by myself or any reliable service technicians through my research via the internet. Also - research into this failure has not shown a proven and final fix though many theoretical fixes are available. Should this failure cause a vehicle while in traffic to stall, death and injury may result inside and outside the vehicle, this issue needs a recall from gm!.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

Could not keep alignment correct. Three sets of tires were ruined by 60,000 m. Consequences were noise of tires, then alignment costs, and replacement of expensive tires.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

2005 Chevrolet Impala. Unit #1 was westbound on the ohio turnpike. The left front tire blew out causing the unit to loose control. Unit #1 veered off the side of the roadway and struck the median wall.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

Excessive rear tire wear, rear spindle, known problem that gm should recall. Gm repaired same known problem with police vehicles, same repair needs done to all vehicles. Rear tires are wearing out very aggressively on the outside edges of rear tires.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

Car would not start. Tried about 10 - 100 times and it would usually turn over. Happening over the last year, but getting worse (car will not start right away for last three days!). Everything inside car (lights, radio, etc. ) is on but engine will not turn over/.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

Instrument cluster panel fails off and on for awhile and then completely quits, causing you not to know your speed or the health of your vehicle. I have seen online way too many complaints of this particular problem for there not to be a recall. The instrument cluster panel needs replaced.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

2004 Impala- security light will come on and car will not start. Must turn key to on position, let sit between 10 and 60 minutes, turn key off and restart, this happens more and more. Im pregnant and this happened and I nearly passed out due to the heat. This occurs nearly every time I attempt to start vehicle,.

Unknown Or Other problem #31

I got my car on 03/09/2011. I have been complaining to the dealership about the issues I am having with my car. It hesitates to crank, when turning I can feel a popping feeling in the steering. Very often my signal lights doesn't come on. I do a lot of highway driving back and forth to work and this is very dangerous. When hitting my breaks the car sometimes speeds up before slowing down, which can be very dangerous. There is a shortage in the wiring. The low coolant level light stays on, even though they claim they fixed some sensor switch. They also said they fixed my car from leaking break fluid, but the breaks are sounding worst everyday. I asked them if the breaks needed changing and they said it was fine. The car hesitates when taking off. I just got home from work and not even 30 minutes went by before I tried to leave out and my car would not crank. I have been complaining to the dealership since I got the car and they have procrastinated until the 30 day warranty expired. When calling today the dealership said that I would have to pay for any repairs because the warranty expired. When asking why should I have to pay for repairs, when I have been complaining about these issues since I first got the vehicle, the reply was they are not going to pay that any mind and I would still have to pay for the repairs.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

I have a chevy 2004 Impala in we been having problems since we got it last year one day the car started shaking in it cut off we got it fixed a couple months later it's back doing the same thing it did at I'm sick in tired of spending my money on getting all this self fix in for it to happen again I look on internet in know a lot of people with the same problem and I'm pretty sure you seen a lot of complaints so I think it's time for a recall 2000-2011 these cars are messing up big time.

Unknown Or Other problem #33

I purchased my 2003 chevy Impala in 2009. Car ran perfect when we purchased it. After 6 months the transmission started to slip. That is not the major issue. The major issue is that the car does not start all the time. Changed battery and it still does not run. It will start but only runs until you put it in gear. It then stalls out! this car has been great but is not unreliable. .

Unknown Or Other problem #34

Security light flashing, wont start or if it starts the radio and all cluster guages wont work.

Unknown Or Other problem #35

Bought this car used and it was running fine for about a year till it got to the point that the car would not crank and security lock would pop up frequently now it almost takes an hour to crank it even if u hit the starter the stater moves but want crank the car I have spent over 4 grand on it trying to fix it but nothing works even checked fuses wires and computer box nothing looks bad cruise control stopped working awhile back too.

Unknown Or Other problem #36

While driving on a highway at 65 mph, I noticed the speedometer needle dropping slowly which it continued to do until it rested at zero. I continued driving at the speed of traffic (65 mph) and all the while the speedometer continued to register "0. " I panicked and if I had not been using a gps navigator that told me what rate of speed I was travelling at, god knows what would have happened. I have been on several blogs and see that this problem is very common in the 2004 Chevrolet Impala. Chevrolet should institute a recall as this is extremely dangerous, and is also costly to repair. It seems to afflict all the models at around 40,000 miles. After I stopped to get gasoline, and filled up the tank, the problem seemed to correct itself, but according to the blogs with other owner comments, I have no confidence that this won't happen again without notice. Please see that Chevrolet recalls this model and makes the repair at no charge. Thank you.

Unknown Or Other problem #37

With just minimialweather conditions rain and or snow was totally unstabe at any speed above 20 mph I have driven in winter weather conditions for more than 30 years this is the most dangerious and unstabe vehicle I have ever drove , it acted as if there was a broken suspension part in the rear of the vehicle , was checked by a local shop and no problem was found.

Unknown Or Other problem #38

2004 Impala w/ 3. 8l engine stalls when decelerating, leaving the car very difficult and un-safe to drive. Currently, the engine starts right back up, but it takes my eyes off the road to put the car in neutral and re-start. I have tried a few inexpensive things such as premium gas, fuel injector cleaner, and a new fuel filter. . . No affect on the problem. There is no "engine light" which appears. I have owned this car since new and taken very good care of it. I do not want to take it to a dealership if at all possible because I do not trust them. Unfortunately, I may be forced to since this is my only car and I cannot afford a car payment.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

The driver side sun visor will no longer stay up and falls down obstructing forward vision. I've gone on the internet and this is a somewhat common occurrence on the Impala. Gm has no repair for it other than replacement. A new visor costs 125. 00 plus installation. I think it should be a recall based on safety.

Unknown Or Other problem #40

My speedometer gauge doesn't work it will get stuck on 20 mph constantly it never reads the correct speed but my other gauges work fine. My transmission shifts/slips harder than it should from 1st into 2ed and 2ed into 3rd. My headlights flicker when I push on my window controls to roll my windows up or down. The heat only blows on the passenger side of my car including on the defrost for the front windows and the rear window.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

My speedometer went out on my 2005 chevy Impala. It happened about 3 months ago. I just had the inspection done and had to have a new cluster put in. My total cost was $500. After searching the internet for complaints, I noticed that there were alot of them regarding the cluster to stop working in the 2005 Impala. For being only 6 years old, this should not be happening.

Unknown Or Other problem #42

Speedometer stops tracking speed. It will stop at a random speed and not return to zero upon stopping the car. When I start driving again it will start tracking the speed from the incorrect point that it stopped at previously and then repeat the fault stopping at a totally different mph point. Also it will just freeze at random speeds. At times it will go all the way to the highest point on the speedometer and freeze. I would think this is a very high priority on the list of safety items. There should be a recall.

Unknown Or Other problem #43

I got my car March 2006 ran smooth for two years then problems started. First my driver side window fell . Next when I turn on my heat or a. C loud tapping sounds occur for about 5mins. Third when I turn my steering wheel to the left it make a popping sound. And the worst of all my transmission is slipping. Everyone I know with chevy Impala are having some of the same problems. Something need to be done!!!!1.

Unknown Or Other problem #44

2005 chevy Impala: rough shifting, lost some hp, speedometer isnt wokring, engine leaking oil.

Unknown Or Other problem #45

On October 11, 2010, was stopped for a left turn, in my 2002 Chevrolet Impala. I was hit from the back by a pickup truck. Upon impact, my onstar mirror came loose from the windshield and the cable became a weapon in the car with the mirror still attached. A witness said it looked like a baseball bat flying around on the inside of the car. The cable was hanging and approximately 2ft long when the wrecker pulled it away. I received multiple injuries to my head/neck and right eye due to this particular incident. There were also other injuries that I feel probably do not pertain to this. The car was later totalled and so nothing was done to correct the issue. I will remain leary to have or install onstar equipment in any other vehicle for this reason.

Unknown Or Other problem #46

The speedometer quit working in my 2005 chev Impala on or about oct. 10, 2010. This is a big concern since we can not afford to have this repaired & we don't know how fast we are going.

Unknown Or Other problem #47

My Impala stops running while im driving on or off the freeway but especially when im driving at a speed of 55 to 65mps when on freeway without warning, the engine light comes and power steering is lost.

Unknown Or Other problem #48

The only event leading to the failure was a loud sound coming from the rear left side of the vehicle. The failure involved a pull to the left and excessive heat being generated from the back left tire. The component that failed ended up being the wheel bearing. I had a mechanic replace it and also kept the old part. The old bearing was scorched (the mechanic showed me) and warped. The bearing could have locked up had it not been replaced, resulting in an accident.

Unknown Or Other problem #49

While attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle hesitated before jerking into gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure after driving it over 140 miles. After licking up the vehicle, the vehicle continues to intermittently hesitate while accelerating and would jerk in various gears. The first failure mileage was around 60000 and the currurt mileage is 88000. Also sometimes would jerk from 1st gear to second gear. I have contacted the dealership again to again check out my problem. The car is still in the warranty period. After researching this problem online that other people have posted, it all seems to point to a pressure solenoid in the transmission but the dealership will not replace the part unless they can duplicate the problem.

Unknown Or Other problem #50

Our car, and thousands of others have failing instrument clusters due to a faulty step motor. This is the same part that has caused a recall for other gm vehicles, and yet nothing for this model. I have researched many repair blogs, and websites and find that this is indeed a very common problem. Speedometer reads wildly inaccurate at times, close on other occasions, not at all most of the time now. The temperature guage suddenly shoots up, causing my wife to pull to the side of the road and pop the hood, only to find that the car is not overly hot. Never really sure when we may run out of gas. . . Why is it that the recall does not apply to all cars and trucks to have received this faulty part? I really cannot find the reasoning to that. Chevrolet wants over 600 dollars to fix a part proven to be faulty from the factory!! there are lots of people making a living at repairing this one problem. Does it not seem unsafe to sell a car without properly functioning guages?? please step up and force a recall across the board for these motors!!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #51

Starting with the 2000 chevy Impala they have a windshield wiper problem, where if heavy snows slides off the roof onto the windshield, or if the wipers are frozen to the windshield when you operate the wipers, it bends a tab under the wiper mechanism and causes the wipers to park in the “outwipe condition when turned off instead of out of the way of the drivers vision just under the front hood. They park straight up causing a dangerous obstruction in the drivers view. There have been hundreds of postings on the internet where Impala owners have had this problem specifically in the states that experience freezing weather and snow. Some have stated after paying from $75 to $300 to have it repaired the problem would return. Perhaps a very poor design on gm’s part but to this date gm has not instituted a recall. Gm has acknowledged the problem and designed replacement kit for the bent tab at great expense for the owner to have it repaired.

Unknown Or Other problem #52

My 2004 chevy Impala speedometer went haywire.

Unknown Or Other problem #53

I purchased a used 2007 Chevrolet Impala 3. 5l LS with approximately 25k miles in October 2009. Between oil changes my car has been burning out oil 2-3 quarts between oil changes). I have taken it back to the dealership 3 times to have this issues corrected. They thought it was a clogged sensor and changed it because they could not find any leaks. They changed the sensor but the vehicle is still burning between 2 - 3 quarts. I have my oil changed every 3k miles. The oil light does come on to alert me when I am low. I am afraid that the engine is going to seize up. I want to bring it back to the dealer again but the last 3 time I have taken it there they have been unsuccessful in finding the problem. I have been a gm customer with this dealership for approximately 17 yrs and have never had a problem with any of my other gm products and the dealership has always been very helpful.

Unknown Or Other problem #54

Speedometer on 2004 chevy Impala suddenly changed to read 50mph when not even moving. Then when driving it reads much higher mph than actual speed. Was reset by turning ignition on and off several times. This has happened 2 times since then and can be reset but not while driving. This is a serious safety hazard because you have no idea how fast you are actually going when it happens to malfunction.

Unknown Or Other problem #55

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Impala sedan which has 123,551 miles on it. I bought it with 108,000. I discovered after I bought it that my speedometer cluster was acting up. I could reset it by turn the key on and off til it reached 0 and both the water temp gauge and speedometer would work for a day or so. Now, only the speedometer works by resetting and the water gauge never works. I have seen may other Impala complaints for the same reason. They did a recall on the trucks but not on Impalas. I feel this should be a recall. 2nd problem. Transmission shop diagnosed and replace valve body. Still did same jumping in and out of gear so replace again. Still does it. Was told by another transmission shop who drove my car that it may be control module. It never does it when I take to a transmission shop but my mechanic got it to do it on fri. And said he thought it could either be speedometer cluster related or may a control module. It is an interminent problem and have had since I bought car in Dec. 09. Another friend said he bought a new 08 and it did same thing. No one ever found out why. ,.

Unknown Or Other problem #56

I bought a 2004 chevy Impala with 76,000 mile's on it and I have been having a ton of problems with it even after spending hundreds of dollar's in shop fee's trying to fix the problem's, the speedometer sticks or just doesn't work at all so I can never tell how fast I'm going along with the temp. Guage so I can't tell if the car is over heating or not. The gauge cluster is faulty and the gauge's only work when they want to. Car was purchased in may of 2009; front tires became severely worn as I added miles to it, as well as the vehicle shaking my entire body while driving it. (my passengers also reported to me that their whole seat area was shaking. ) had tires rotated and balanced and shaking continued. Now, I am afraid to drive it at high speeds. Checked with my dealership and they said they have had no notices or recalls on this problem. I need help, and soon.

Unknown Or Other problem #60

Dates and mileage is estimated as listed above* I bought a brand new Impala in April of 2008. I was advised at my first oil change at 3000 miles that my tires needed to be rotated because they were wearing due to mileage. I did not do this because I could not believe a brand new car at 3000 miles needed a tire rotation. I was also starting to notice that the back end was sliding and felt like it was "rolling", especially in ice and snow. I was advised at my second oil change (6000 miles) that my tires were almost "shot" and needed to be replaced. I was also informed this was because I had failed to rotate my tires. A friend who is a master mechanic felt that I needed an alignment on the car. He told me to take it back to the dealer where I bought the car and have everything replaced under warranty. In may of 2009, at approximate 6k-7k miles, I took the car to art moehn. They advised that I voided my tire warranty by not having my tires rotated. A month later I had a blowout on one of my tires. I had the tire replaced, and had an alignment done on the car. Shortly thereafter, I had a new set of tires put on. In the next two years, the same thing happened. By 2011 at about 50k miles, I was on my third set of tires and had had my car aligned two times. We then found out that gm had issues with some of these 2008 Impalas - with very similar stories of what I had been thru. I contacted gm customer service to ask for help with this car - requesting they fix the problem. They insisted I have yet another alignment and assessment "at my cost" at their specified dealer. Imagine my frustration when this alignment (less than 3 mos from the previous one) yielded results that the car was already out of alignment!!! gm offered me a $1000 gift cert toward the purchase of another new gm vehicle. Please help. This car is a safety hazard & needs to be fixed.

Bought the car new in may 2006 & have had the car in the shop 25x plus. The vehicle is e-85 however unless I want to have trouble with the vehicle I have not run that kind of fuel in the car. The trailing arm busted in half 4/09. I have contacted the better business bureau who said that because the problems prior to the trailing arm busting were not considered life threatening they could not consider the car a lemon. I have contacted GMC & bob brown chevy in urbandale, IA regard the above issues. However all they want to do is patchup the problems instead of completely correcting the problem. I have documentation & parts to follow up with all of the above stated problems.

1) tried to slow car down. Car would not turn nor halt. Ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. Restored it 100%. 2) a year later, had 3 brand new rack and pinion's replaced in one month. Had the vehicle checked out. The a-frame is in excellent shape and so is the area surrounding the rack and pinon. Have pictures and mechanics as proof. 3) called the chevy company & was told that the car was manufactured in wisconsin. They claim they saw no reason to help with the rack & pinion as those cars were recall-free. 4) car leans towards oncoming traffic at times (this started after each rack and pinion was replaced). There is also a 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock dead zone in the steering column. Steering used to feel a bit normal. It was not like this until I had a new rack and pinion put on. Twice (in between) the boot would excessively leak (as did the original from chevy). 5) when I turn the wheel out of the driveway, the car makes kick drumming grinding sounds. Was told this was normal. It is irritating though. 6) the car didn't even hit it's 5th year (being new) before it started to rust paint off the top of its roof. I live where there is no snow or coast, and extremely little ice. 7) the check engine light never goes off. Had it checked. Was told it was fine. 8) was driving right next to a cop going down a steep hill when the speedometer stuck at 10 mph. I crossed my fingers that I wasn't speeding since I kept my speed next to the officer. Replaced. 9) combo turning signal & cruise broke off the steering for no reason during a turn. Replaced. 10) locks me out off & on for no reason. 11) this car is my baby as it was one of the last thing I got that was my mother's before she died. It is also my first car that has seen me through (and still) my college years. It is very sentimental to me for those reasons. My dream is to keep this car even when it's a classic.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. When the contact purchased the vehicle, he noticed a foul odor coming from the ventilation system. The odor burns his eyes, gives him and his wife a headache, and causes a bad taste in his mouth. The issue has been checked approximately 12 times with no resolution. The current mileage was 30,000 and failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 11/19/08. Updated 11/19/08.

2004 chevy Impala: the speedometer step servo motor is defective in my car. It started about 2 years ago giving false readings. I found out online that there are thousands of them doing this. The same problem with the same step motors used on other chevy vehicles were actually recalled. This is a dangerous situation. I'm having to use my gps for a speedometer now, and it can be hard to read at times. Why hasn't Chevrolet extended the recall to the Impala's as well. They must be hoping the car owners will take care of the problem in their vehicles for them? can you do anything about this? the dealerships I've talked to say they expected chevy to do something about it, but they still have not put out the recall on the Impala. It's been going on for years now. Even before the 2004 model. There are many of these complaints listed 'on line'. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. I owe a chevy Impala 2007 and I was having trouble with the car muffler, it was making a noise. On taking it to the service shop, I was told that it needed to be changed and the probable reason is the salt has caused the damage. The car has run 69 k miles. I ended up changing the muffler.

Turning into my mother's driveway, I applied the foot brake. The toe of my shoe hit the panel on the underside of the dash. As I took my foot off the brake to release the pedal, the panel fell onto and blocked the pedals. The panel was tethered by a bulb, socket and cable. I could no longer reach or operate the brake pedal again. I stopped the vehicle by shifting into neutral and applying the emergency brake. Although going very slowly, by the time I was able to stop I had crashed into my mother's garage door. One of 2 plastic clips broke when the toe of my shoe struck it causing it to fall and blocking the use of the pedals. If this had occurred at 60 mph, I would have lost control and crashed. My assessment is "faulty design" of the panel and clips. Striking the panel with the toe of the shoe should not break the fasteners such that the panel falls and makes the pedals unreachable and unusable.

I look on here and see a number of things going on with my car. Rolling on hills, driver window switch, constant burning of spark plug wires, my keyless entry never worked, I've had roters turned and replaced numerous of times. But the 2 things that are bothering me are 2 parts that have been recalled for 2000 Impalas don't match my VIN # for the recall. I don't understand if I'm haveing the same problems as they are. 1 is the rack n penion piece which is causeing the popin and stuff under the front end that most of the complaints you have are and the second is the intake manafold gaskets. Are they just replaceing these 2 items on police issued and taxis ? and also the hesitation &shut off that everyone is talking about. I had the same problem it was a wireing problem that was laying on my exuast. I have had to fix normal wear and tear and don't mind. But a single mother of 4 and gm who do you think can afford to fix things more. And I feal that the should fix there faulty material as I have fixed my wear and tear. If that rack n penion breaks and I losse control of stearing in my car my family is aware of the problem and I promise it would of been alot cheaper to go ahead and fix it for everyone. It's sad that we have got to go to limits of putting ads in paper, calling people, and almost a act of congress to get any kind of help. How many cars have lost control of stearing? (rack n penion) what happens when I expect my keyless entry to work because I'm in danger and counted on it? or maybe when one of those wires that's burnig up catches my car on fire. Out of 600 complaints the three most complained about items rack in penion, wireing, and the car rolling bakwards were you keep 1 foot on the gas and 1 on the break. If that's not enough I don't know what is these are safety issues. I will gladley let someone drive mine to see.

I am having a motor problem with my moon roof. I was informed by a gm service tech. That this problem looks similar to a problem that chevy had with model yr 2000-2002 chevy blazer SUV. The problem is that the motor has to be replaced and that is what happened to the SUV's. For those, chevy did a recall and replaced at own cost. When I contacted gm, they claimed not to know about any problems with 2000 Impala's but when I asked about the blazer recall they claim that without a VIN nbr they could not look it up in their system.

The clear coat is coming off the car. We bought the car used (oct. 26/01) and took it to ziebart to have a protective coating put on. (Nov. 9/01) the gm protection plan was very expensive. When we took it back for its one-year check-up(oct. 21/02),the technician at ziebart told us that the clear coat was coming off. We took it to the dealership on oct. 31/02. The warrantee was for 60000 km (38000 miles). The dealership repaired the part that was coming off "as a gesture of good will" because the warrantee was up, but we requested that they do the whole car, as we felt that the problem would recur. "they do not repair what is not damaged. " now, 7 months later, the clear coat is coming off a different part of the car. They will cover 50% of the cost of repair, but when I asked what happens if this problem recurs, I was told we will have to pay for the repair. Gm canada is playing hard-ball and backs the dealership. "the matter is closed". When I asked if there was an ombudsman, they said no and that my only other option is "to get legal counsel or go to gm mediation or arbitration. " do you have a canadian counterpart? thank you.

The top of the dash board on the passenger side is lifting away from the front of the dash board (you can see the glue). Interesting point to mention - the rental car we received was also an Impala and we noted the same thing was happening to the dash board on the rental vehicle. (can this affect air bag deployment?).
