37 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

I have 2001 chevy Impala LS with about 80k miles on it. When the weather started getting bad, the traction system light kicked on for obvious reasons. I took it off b/c I don't like. Now when I get in the car, and turn it on, my abs, traction control and "service traction system" warning lights come on. The "service traction light goes off, but I would like to get the other to do off. It seems I'm not the only person with the type of problem. 100's of people across the us have a similiar problem with this particular model ranging from years 01-04.

38 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/05/2010

The 2010 Impala was at hwy speeds and in cruise control at approx 65mph. The car got a front twitch that turned into a vibration. The cruise started to surge approx one hour into the trip. The traction control light came on, the check engine light a couple seconds later and the message display was flashing traction control failure, drive at reduced speeds and ignition failure. The traction control failed at hwy speeds leaving the driver coasting to reduced speeds and then the car shut off at 20 mph with no power steering or braking. This is the second time this has happened. Both times cars approached at hwy speeds while I was slowing down without brake lights.

41 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

It has been going on for a few months now. It is more noticeable when I am turning right or left or pulling away from the curb where I am parellel parked. The engine makes a whirring sound, the engine becomes sluggish and the service traction system and trac off lights come on. Once I straighten the wheel, the noise stops and the lights go off. It also occurs when I am turning right or left where I need to break as I am turning.

42 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

It has been going on for a couple of months. It is noticeable when I am turning right or left or pulling out from being parellel parked, the engine makes a grinding noise, it becomes sluggish and the service traction system and the trac off lights come on. Once I straighten the wheel, the noise stops and lights go off. When I am turning either right or left and need to brake, it does the same thing.

43 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Abs & traction control service light kept coming on and I took it to dealership for service and they told me it was the hub assembly for the left side driver side that was covered under warranty and that I needed to replace my front rotors and brake pads (I wasn't having any problems with my brakes but because they said they needed replacing I went along with it). After repairs were completed and my vehicle "road-tested", I picked up my car and after leaving the dealership, both the abs and traction service light came on again and I called and they scheduled me in for an appt. 2 days later. They couldn't find the problem so they called and told me that they needed to dig deeper and keep my car overnight and that I would now be charged a diagnostic fee to diagnose the problem up to $100. My service 2 days prior cost $224. 90 so I was a little skeptical but I needed to know what the problem was so I agreed. I receive a phone call today stating that it is a wire in the harness that's causing the problem and it would be another $250. 00 to fix. I check the internet to find out more information and not only has this happened to me but to several others and obviously this is a manufacturer defect and should be covered and how do I know that the dealership didn't cause the problem/defect by digging deeper to find out why the service lights were coming on and damaged the wire.

44 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the traction control light and the engine light illuminated at the same time which caused the vehicle to reduce power while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed her that the pedal sensor or the wiring harness could have caused the failure to occur. The dealer performed a diagnostic test but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle will not be repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed her to take the vehicle to the dealer but they could not repair the failure. The failure mileage was 70,534.

45 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

I bought my 2001 chevy Impala LS in 2004, until decemeber 2009 the car was running great. It started with my cars "traction active" light coming on on whenever I accelerated then after a couple of weeks of this light coming on more and more often (4-6 times daily) I experienced an incedent in where my brakes jammed up the brake pedal got hard and I almost hit a car infront of me. I went to get my brakes checked and they told me they where fine (I figured they where fine a I had just recently changed them) well the issue with the brakes started hapoening more and more often at least once or twice daily not evrytime but 1-2 times a day and then the abs light coming on. I took the car to the auto shop and they told me Impala's are known to have problems with the abs module. After researching online, I found a lot of complaints from Impala owners all over the u. S having the same issue with the traction active and the abs lights coming on. It seems to be a defective abs module. This module and the repair cost me a total of about $1,000. 00.

46 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the traction control warning light illuminated and the engine stalled. The contact managed to merge over to the emergency lane. After multiple attempts the vehicle restarted and was taken to a dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. The technician diagnosed that the throttle and accelerator pedal needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the approximate mileage was 10,600.

47 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/20/2009

I was driving to work and proceeded to make a sharp right turn when I heard a grinding noise come from my car it was then I noticed the traction activity light come on . I got ready to pull into a parking space turning left and noise happened again but it was accompanied by a delay in my stopping and also turning. After work I pulled out of the parking lot with no problems so I just pay it no attention. Until I turned in to my mom's to pick up my kids and it did it again but this time an 18 wheeler was behind me and actually had to brake and go around me because of the delay in my turning. I actually had to fight with the steering wheel to proceed with my turn. This problem occurs every time I make a sharp turn left or right , whether I'm turning slowly or not , and I believe some one is going to be seriously hurt by this problem if its not corrected. It wasn't until 2months ago I found out that if you turn the traction off that the same thing happens but not as bad and that it had some thing to do with part#10340313 and part#10340314 which is the abs harness which can only be purchased through the dealer or on gmpartsdirect. Com. Which I think we as owners should not have to pay for but will have to pay for to insure our family and our own safety. Another issue I have is that the turn single also stops working I have to push down on the hazard button to get it to work again and some times hit the dash to get it to work.

48 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/17/2009

While driving at 60 mph the cars service traction control light comes on and so does the abs brake service light. The car then reduces power to no more then 35-40 mph and that's with the gas pedal floored. It has happened since new. I have changed out the harness, and wheel hub and it still happens, sometimes in very dangerous situations like while driving on a hwy with a truck behind you and the car goes from 60 mph to 40 mph in a heart beat. The dealership said its a common electrical problem with gm cars in 2006-2009. The only part left to change would be the computer modulator, however talking to other gm owners with the same problem it doesn't seem to help.

49 Traction Control Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

Traction frequently activates. "service traction system" and "abs" lights come on frequently. Last spring and summer, my mechanic replaced a couple of parts but it did not resolve the problem. I can not tell you exactly what those parts were without finding my receipts for the work. Last spring and summer, the traction did not actually activate but the light did come on. Diagnostic was done several times with no results except for a couple of times. I had the body module replace last fall. I had no problems for about a month but problems started periodically and are gradually increasing. I do not understand why there has not been a recall. With the tires spinning like that, it could be dangerous. After stopping at a stop light or stop sign or making a turn, my traction sometimes activates.
