Four problems related to brake antilock control unit/module have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet K1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 1999 chevy silverado, walked out started truck and the abs module failed and ran constantly as with thousands of other chevy truck owner have done as well, this is a shame. Gm needs to own up to their mistakes and take care of this problem. This is a very dangerous situation now having abs in a snowbound state, also what if this module failed going down the road in a braking situation when it was needed? this is going to cause a lot of collisions. This is a faulty part put onto he trucks by gm to try and save money, seems funny that the abs modules prior to the 1999 models have no issues with them what so ever. Come on gm step up to your mistakes.
Problems with abs system on 1999 Chevrolet K1500. Before the consumer turned off the engine the abs light illuminated on the dash. When the ignition was off the consumer heard a grinding noise which originated under the vehicle. The consumer crawled under the vehicle and unplugged the abs and the noise stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the ebcm shorted out. The consumer was told that this is a common problem with this model Chevrolet.
Abs computer failed in my 1999 Chevrolet K1500 silverado pickup. The module makes a continuous noise like a small engine running even with the key removed from the ignition. The only way to stop the noise is to disconnect the battery or remove the abs 60 amp fuse. Dealer informs me the part costs $875. 00 in checking with used parts shops I found this part is in very high demand -- much greater than they can supply. One used parts dealer told me they had 18 requests this year alone. The Chevrolet dealer hesitatingly admitted they replace lots of these. With the fuse removed the vehicle is drivable but without the abs function. The dash board does have indicators constantly lit for brakes and abs.
The abs modual on my 1999 K1500 chevyrolet truck has gone bad. The pump stays on at all times, unless you pull out the fuse for the abs. By disconnecting the fuse, the abs brakes are disabled for the truck. This also leaves the abs light and brake light in the dash on. The replacement for this part is around $1000. This appears to be a fairly common problem on this model truck. My father is haveing the same luck with his 1999 k2500. Note that the dealer recommended fix, short of replacing the unit, is pulling out the fuse.
