Side/window Air Bag problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Lumina

Eight problems related to side/window air bag have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Lumina. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2003

Air bag deployed without warning. While driving the drivers side air bag deployed inadvertently. The next day when the vehicle was being started the passenger side air bag deployed inadvertently and broke the windshield.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem

Driver's side air bag deployed for no reason. The passenger side air bag deployed as well.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2003

While driving, the driver's side air bag deployed inadvertently. The driver sustained injuries from the air bag. The next day the vehicle was started and the passenger side air bag deployed and broke the windshield.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2003

While driving on the highway, the driver side air bag violently deployed and about 7 to 10 minutes later the passenger side air bag violently deployed and shattered the windshield.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/27/1996

While driving the passenger's side air bag deployed without any reason. Consumer stated he traveled about 300- 400 feet when passenger air bag deployed, there was some flooding on the interior of floor. Deealer not willing to help consumer.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/26/1996

Air bags, the consumer was driving the vehicle and the driver and passenger side air bag deployed (note the consumer was not in an accident).

7 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/15/1996

While driving, passenger side air bag deployed without incident, cover to air bag hit windshield and sunroof.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem

Expresses a desire that a solution should be found to making the passenger's side air bags safe for small women and children.
