Two problems related to steering failed have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When driving through small puddles in the road during or after rain, power steering quits working when serpentine belt gets wet. This steering failure lasts for about 3 seconds until belt then grips and steering returns. Mechanic fabricated deflector to prevent water from splashing directly on belt.
While driving 55 mph and changing lanes steering failed. Steering wheel rotated, but the vehicle would not react to the movement. This occurred without warning.
