Gasoline Engine Problems of Chevrolet Lumina

Car was running good ,and just had oil changed . I bought it as a program car still under warrenty. Have had no previous problems. Car was running fine one day and the next morning after trying to start it , the car's engine seemed to jump and would not start. The whole car shook. Had it towed and found out that the engine was blown . A piston rod in the engine broke or something like that is what a dealer said, after it was looked at. Dealer I bought it from has been notified. The car is there for repairs now . New engine will have to be put in going to cost $3500.

Recall for defect in spark plug wire did not apply to 3. 1 liter engine although same problem as 3. 4 liter engine per michael mays, general motors customer relations manager. The vehicle needs additional servicing as a result of this defect.

Engine check light kept coming on. Took vehicle to dealer 12 times, and replaced one fuel injector. Did not remedy problem. Dealer then replaced all fuel injectors. Dealer also replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel tank, possible engine problem.

Vehicle surges when approaching the speed of 25 to 45mph. Motor was replaced 27,000, and there was no prior warning. Transmission replaced at 10,000. Dealer has worked on the vehicle, but problem still exists. Owner planning to file for lemon law protection.

Car exploded in our garage causing loss of two vehicles, our townhouse and our live as we knew it. We had less than 60 seconds to escape with our lives. The last 8 mo. S of our lives have been "hell" and is not over yet! we both have incurred serious medical, financial, emotional, quality-of life and trauma/losses as a result of this event. In less than 60 seconds our lives were thrown back 40 years! we do not want anyone else to have to through this nightmare that we experiencing. Referenced in ea02-030.

Car has just quit running on two occasions,the last time in a major intersection almost causing a major crash. Pushed car out of intersection. If car is left setting for 1/2 to 1 hour it will start up. Car will be driven if it starts in am or towed if not to dealer. Very dangerous situation. Notice numerous other complaints of this problemn in consumer complaint section.

While driving consumer came to a stop. As consumer pulled off again, the vehicle lost all power. It shut completely down in an intersection. Dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle undergoes loss of power when traveling at normal rate of speed and also when first pulling off from a stopped position. Seems like a dead pedal. Vehicle has been in shop since 0ct 7,98 and dealership still unable to determine problem. Almost resulted in an accident on 2 seperate occasions.

Intermittently while driving the vehicle at any speed itjust completely dies out. The manufacturer is aware of the problem. The dealer is not able to detect what the prolbem is.

Intermittent problem: when traveling at any speed the vehicle cuts off without prior warning, resulting in loss of all power. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer unable to find the cause of the problem. Please provide any futher details.

Vehicle just cuts off while driving without any warning, and then have to restart the vehicle.

Engine cuts off sporadically. Vehicle has to be turned off and started back up in order to get engine started back up. Dealer can't find a solution.

While driving at any speed the vehicle just quits without warning. The vehicle has been towed to the dealership at least 5 times for this problem. The dealer is not able to correct this problem. Please provide any furhter details.

At 70, 000 miles engine was replaced. Consumer has contacted manuacturer concerning file number 9905857296. Manufacturer has yet to provide any assistance. . Please provide any further details.

Upon starting vehicle engine blew up, causing pieces of the engine compartment to go flying in the air, resulting in 2500 worth of damage to the vehicle. Consumer has contacted dealer.
