My car cuts off and goes into the anti-theft system while I'm going down the road when this happens my car has to be pushed off the roadway and then I have to sit with my driver side door open and my key turned on for 10 minutes until it resets itself this is very dangerous and it scared me because I was in the middle of highway 150 in danville kentucky. Plusmy heating system is messed up I can't get it to bleed out the air in the system.
Anti-theft locking device make car stop and can't start even in emergency situation. Had gone to bank and when tried to start vehicle and wouldn't start. Client is 88 years old and had to go out on street seeking help to get car fixed. (forgot cell phone at home) walked some distance and was having respiratory problems when she reached an auto shop. Mechanic went to car to help and fixed problem. Said it was anti-theft mechanism. This same thing has happened before when car had to be towed and was diagnosed as anti-theft locking device. Researching matter on internet and find there are thousands of Chevrolets exhibiting the same defect. Why isn't Chevrolet required to fix this problem before some dies as a result. We can't always control circumstances of being stranded, where when how etc. , and this is absolutely a safety problem for the driver. Please help with this problem. When individuals are on fixed income they can't keep going to dealer and have $108 diagnosis to determine problem (when they already know what it is) and then charging big bucks to fix a minor fix. Thank you for your attention.
Anti theft device caused car to be unable to start even with correct key. Stationary. Computer had to. Be reprogrammed.
I purchased my used car in the fall of 2015. Since then, I have experienced several incidents - now occurring more frequently - in which my car will not start because the anti-theft system believes I am trying to steal it. When I turn the key in the ignition, the car will not start and the anti-theft light starts blinking. I must wait exactly 10 minutes with the key in the "on" position for the light to stop blinking. Then I can restart the car and it works fine. This has happened several times in the past few weeks. I have looked online for solutions to this problem, and have discovered that numerous Malibu owners have experienced the exact same problem. I have been stranded in dark parking lots multiple times, and do not feel safe knowing that my vehicle regularly will not start without a ten minute delay.
When attempting to start my son's 2002 chevy Malibu the anti-theft light came on, and the car would crank but not start. I looked online and found that this is a common pass lock sensor issue. The key needs to be in the on position for at least 10 minutes (until the anti-theft light goes off), then turn the key to the off position, take the key out, then put the key back in, and it will start. This is a known issue and can be referenced on numerous online sites, so there is no reason this should not be a recall issue. Mechanics will tell you it is the fuel pump, fuel lines, or the ignition, and you can spend a great deal of money without solving the issue. At $300-$450 (estimates) you can have the ignition switch replaced, but this is a known issue and should be on the recall list. I do not want my teenage son stranded for something that gm knows about and should replace.
I tried to start my car yesterday morning after having it only sit for an hour when the car would crank but not start. It seemed as if the car was not getting fuel and less than 3 weeks ago had a new fuel pump fixed on it because of this same issue. As I stated before, the car would crank but not start. I had it towed to the local chevy dealership and they were unable to find anything wrong with the car and had it starting and running every time they tried to diagnose the problem. After doing research online, it appears this is a common problem with chevy Malibu's as it deals with an error in the anti-theft device for the car and deals with the passlock system. This is an inconvenience for owners of chevy Malibu's and is such a common problem it needs to be fixed by the manufacturer or this vehicle.
2002 Chevrolet Malibu anti-theft system frequently prevents me from starting the car.
My car is part of the gm recall #14350. My car specifically has problems with the pass lock anti-theft system allowing the car to be started. Several years ago I took it to superior Chevrolet and at that time they told me the pass lock was an ongoing issue. They could fix it but it would not stay fixed. I paid over 500. 00 dollars and they replaced the ignition cylinder. 2 or 3 years later. Same problem. I contacted gm and was instructed to again return to a dealer and they would take care of the fix. I took my car to tom gill Chevrolet. They performed diagonostic and informed me the pass lock was the problem and for another 500. 00 dollars they could repair it. I was under the impression gm was going to pay for repair. They said the gm representive declined the repairs. I then took my car to an authorized service center and had it rechecked. Again the diagonostic was the pass lock system. At that time the ignition cylinder was replaced again to the tune of 500. 00. I just received my recall letter and I called jeff wyler florence Buick GMC to schedual repairs. I ask what was going to be the solution and if the reapir would fix the pass lock system anti-theft. They said no. If I wanted that fixed it was 94. 50. For a new diagonostic plus parts. Really. I need the anit-theft pass lock system fixed in my car. That should have been part of the recall. Waiting to hear some good news. Please. My car now has 92,000 miles on it. I typicall have to walk to or from work because it will not start when I need it to. Pass lock shuts off the fuel and you have to wait until it resets. Please help with this. Thanks.
Had many incidents and almost crashed where car will shut down while vehicle is moving. I had change my ignition at the gm dealership twice and my car still has the same problem. I special order my car Feb 2002 and had been the only owner of this car to present. Gm dealership technician notes: - on January 16 2007, 7,879 miles. My car would not start. Put key in the ignition and the gages went up about half way and stayed there until doors auto locked, then the gages dropped all the way down. Tried to start and it cranked but will not start. Usually you can hear the pump priming but did not. This still happens to this date. After 20 minutes or so car did start and drove for a while. It died at a stop and would not restart. When tried to restart gages still moved with the locks. But anti theft light was on the gages did not come up. Technician verified concern. Car did start and drove into the shop. After several attempts the car did not start. Testing found loss of ignition 1 voltage. Technician isolated to an open circuit in the ignition switch. Technician replaced ignition switch. After a few moths I had the problem come and go and the dealership could not figure out the problem. - on November 24, 2012, 47,906 miles. Ignition will not turn over at times, and also will set off alarm when key is turned at times. Technician found code b2960, ignition pass lock sensor failing. Technician replaced lock cylinder and key, system operated as designed. But on December 17, 2012 vehicle lose power and shut off while driving on the highway. Took it back to the dealership but they could not duplicate concern while test driving it. Dealership did not do anything else and turned me away saying my car is in good working order. I have all receipts when I took my car to be fixed at the dealership. Car still have the same problem and very concerned and scared to drive it.
