2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

I had the recall done on 11-26-14 for gm will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. Gm's number for this recall is 14350. Now the chip in the ignition switch keeps going in to tamper mode. The car will not start and the computer has to be reset to make it start. I have had to have it towed 2 times in the last 8 days! so now I have to pay over $500. 00 to have it replaced! this should be covered under the recall! the key fix did not fix the problem. The car has only 124 thousand miles on it! prostrollo motor CO. In madison, sd 570472 605-256-9111 is the dealership repairing it and said many other cars like mine have had to do this also!!! what a rip off!.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

The theft system light appears on dash when key is put into the ignition, upon turning the ignition, car won't start, due to the theft system light, why does my car not recognize my key? this is a defect in the manufacturing. The car shouldn't "think" the owner is trying to steal it. Had to get car towed to dealership, they told me the ignition cylinder needs to be replaced, quoted me 613$ plus tax. I am forced to get it replaced. The service adviser said upon replacement, they would need to reprogram the computer to recognize a new key! again, this is defective manufacturing, this isn't just a bad battery, or bad alternator, this is a computer glitch that has nothing to do with the motor, but a faulty built in theft system. The computer failing in a vehicle programmed by its manufacturer needs to be recalled and fixed. This isn't the consumers fault. I am lucky my motor didn't cut off while driving, because previous to not starting up at all, the theft system light would go on while driving down the road.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

Factory power sunroof switch has premature intermittent failure causing the window to stop midway or open partially. Closure is also partial or stopping midpoint. The switch failure requires multiple attempts to open and or close the glass. All other power accessories work as intended including other power window switches. Vehicle has never been modified or or damaged.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

I had an ignition switch replaced by a dealer (dimmitt Chevrolet, clearwater, FL) because my key was stuck in it. The same dealer also replaced my key and key casing because of a recall. After that I starting noticing that my car would intermittently cut off forcing me to put in neutral and restart. I thought it may be a clogged fuel filter and had that replaced. The issue still exists and it is a dangerous situation to me and my family not knowing when my car will just stop running, especially while driving at highway speeds. I checked and do not see a gm recall on my model for some reason.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

Transmission sticks when putting vehicle in gear causing it to stall and jerk. Back door lock constantly locks and unlocks even when not in use. This problem is very irritating. The glass hatch unlocks and opens without warning. This is a very common problem with Ford explorers. The glass hatch goes up without warning and sometimes ends up slamming down when driver hits their brakes or something, causing the glass to scatter.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

Update - faulty ignition switch/lock cylinder failure: ignition key could not be removed after parking the vehicle. Gear was in park and brake was depressed (would not move either). Could not turn the key or start the vehicle. Tried everything. Vehicle was towed to sts in ewing NJ. They worked on the vehicle and were able to free up the key from the ignition, however when they reinserted the key they could not turn the ignition/ start the car. The brake stayed depressed and they could not get the gear out of park. They had to replace the entire ignition unit, including the ignition switch, as the lock cylinder wasn't working. They ordered the parts and received the code from a local Chevrolet dealer. Total cost to replace parts and repair was $689. 75. This appears to be a common problem with this vehicle, and other gm vehicles were recalled for this problem (14113c part of 14092). There was also a recent recall (14350) as the dealer had to install a key insert and key rings to prevent an unintended ignition key rotation. I believe my current ignition problem is related to these recalls.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

2002 Chevrolet Malibu classic engine fails to start. Gm passlock theft system indicator light flashes, and stays lit. Vehicle has failed to start and stranded driver and passengers. Key feels loose in ignition. Trim surrounding ignition remains loose from multiple switch replacements. Same issue has been diagnosed before. Vehicle diagnosed and documented at gm service center as having a failed ignition switch for the second time. Vehicle had to have ignition switch replaced 2 times at owner's expense for a grand total of over $1200. All parts and replacements have been performed at the same genuine gm service center. Recommend ignition switch recall for safety and reliability issues. First replacement occured in 2008. Second switch replacement required in 2014. Vehicle part of recent gm recall #:n140350 for unintended key rotation. Remedy was performed on the day of ignition switch replacement number 2; which included "inserts" for the key ring so that it goes from a "slot" design to a hole design and 2 small 13 mm rings. It should be noted that this is a failed remedy that can be found in general motors TSB # 05-02-35-007a and was performed on similar model year vehicles. This solution or remedy from engineering did not ultimately protect drivers and operators from unintended key rotation. This so called recall remedy is a previously known failure and can be found in public documents concerning gm ignition switch litigation. Why is gm allowed to continue to implement a failed design when it comes to handling the ignition switch recalls. If it doesn't work in 6 different gm vehicles, then why would it work in the 1997-2005my Chevrolet Malibu classic? this is deceptive and a clear indication that gm does not care about their customers.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

The vehicle wouldn't start at all, towed to the garage had to put a new ignition switch, lock cylinder with passkey security systems total, ignition switch $175. 68, lock cylinder with passkey security system $230. 21 labor $152. 00 total $602. 52. I called regarding this recall that I just got in the mail, and they said that I will not be refund for this. I believe that this was caused by the keys, we have had problems in the past with this, and finally had to get it to a garage to fix it rather than be stranded or in an accident.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2014

My 2002 Chevrolet Malibu LS left me stranded at a busy fueling station. The car refused to start due to the faulty passlock ignition switch system. These parts were replaced at an authorized gm service center at approximately 47,000 miles due to the same issue of refusing to start. Now at around 21,000 miles later the parts have failed again. Gm and NHTSA need to resolve these safety issues. I don't feel safe in this car, and I don't believe it is reliable. Wake up this is yet another gm ignition problem that has been known for decades! anyone in doubt just do an internet search on gm passlock or Chevrolet Malibu ignition problems.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

I was driving my vehicle at 35 pmh when I went over a small pot hole on father hurley blvd. My right knee smashed against my key ring on the front dash area. Thee car lost immediate power. I could not accelerate or steer my vehicle. I had to slowly coast over to the side of the road until I came to a complete stop. Vehicles around me had a difficult time avoiding me since this event happened as I was approaching a lane merging with mine as they exited a major freeway. When the vehicle had completely stopped I put on my hazard lights and put it in park. I noticed that the key was not fully engaged in the ignition so I pushed it all the way back into the ignition and turned the key over. The car immediately started up and I was able to drive home safely. This is the 3rd time an event like this (where my knee has bumped up against the key ring and the car lost power) has happened in my history of owning this vehicle.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2012

My heater/ac fan speed control switch has 5 speeds on it. They all work up to number 4. When I turn it on up to 5 it shuts off the fan motor. Number 4 speed is not fast enough to keep the ice from the windshield and not fast enough to keep the car cool with the ac when it is hot outside. I don't know if it is set this way or if it has a faulty switch. Thanks. Lee monroe.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2008

A/c goes on intermittently. This has gone on since 2008. Others who also own Malibus have spoken about this problem. Not too good in summer!!!.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2001

When it rains the brakes will not grab and hold. Loud howling noise from the front brakes. The whole car shudders hard as if it will fall off of it's frame. Pads and rotors have been replaced four times in a year. Dealer won't check anything else and says gm won't authorize the warranty work! ts.
