2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

My theft light came on a month after the ignition was repaired due to recall. It is always on now. I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, and timing chain. My car still wont start after all of that and the theft light is still on. I have been without a car for 2 months now due to it not starting. It will roll over but nothing more happens. When all of this happened it was stationary and it was parked in a parking lot where I work.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

There is a problem with the rear brake lights. I had the circuit boards changed and all fuses checked and changed and I still don't had brake lights. There is a recall listed concerning this issue it is recall number 13036. I have researched is situation and found out that the chevy Malibu models from 1997 to 2012 all seem to have problems with the brake lights failing to operate. So when a recall be issued or do people have to continue taking chances that while they are driving that the brake lights may or may not be working. I was driving when someone informed me that my rear brake lights were not working thankfully I arrived home, parked my car and have not driven it since. I discussed the situation with my mechanic and he advised me about the failed rear brake assembly of the chevy Malibu and to contact the dealership. I spoke with a representative who basically told me there was nothing I could do that I could had it serviced pay out of pocket and if and when a recall for the brake system is issued I could be reimbursed. Because of this huge issue I can't and don't feel safe driving. Therefore, it is an extra cost on me to take public transportation to travel and I'm on a fixed income so who is going to reimburse me for my inconvenience.

Im having serious brake problems I almost had a major car accident because of my this problem. This car brakes by itself specially when I speed up to 50mph and above. And also the brake pedal wont disengage by itself when braking and the whole car stars shaking uncontrolable. And im afraid everyday more and more that I might kill myself driving this car because this is my only car I have and drive everywhere I need to go specially now that im expecting a baby boy I constantly need check ups in my clinic I go too. Most of my braking problems accured while im driving on the freeway but something I dont need to be on the freeway for alk this to happen.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

On Friday, February, 8, 2019 my 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, VIN 1g1zs52f74f138257 had to be towed off of the road and home because the front breaks were locking and the vehicle was smoking from the same original location. On Sunday, February 10, 2019 the vehicle was towed to the south charlotte Chevrolet, the nearest dealership. On Monday, February 11, 2019 kb from south charlotte Chevrolet informed me that the front calipers, brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. I explained that the work was done only three and a half months ago by lancaster motor company. Kb informed me that the previous technician at lancaster motor company installed the parts incorrectly and as a result the same problem was occurring and that I needed to contact Chevrolet/GMC regarding my warranty. Chevrolet/GMC is not honoring their warranty and the failed rotors almost caused my daughter to be in a car accident on February 8, 2019. The same vehicle was take to lancaster motor company, SC for a front break concern; smoke and screeching on Saturday, October 6, 2018. I received a follow up call from the lancaster motor company, SC service department on October 6, 2018 that the car could not be driven until the breaks were repaired and that they could not return it me because it was "unsafe to drive". The technician; told me that they were keeping the car and that they would follow up with me on Monday, October 8, 2018. During a discussion with lancaster motor company the week of October 8, 2018 I was informed by louis howard smith that my front calipers had to be replaced along with the breaks and rotors. The invoice number cvcs186718 totaled $1114. 29 for the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu and I was informed that the parts were covered under warranty for twelve (12) months.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

I received an email this morning 8/1/2018 stating my car may have recalls on it. When I click the link, I see there are 10 recalls on the 2004 chevy Malibu. 10! out of those 10, I received a notice for only two! I received a notice about my power steering which came after my wheel locked up on my while I was driving on the highway! I check the list today, and my car has had several issue that were listed: ignition, transmission, brakes, etc. I was never notified about these issues. These notices have been out since 2014 and I never received a notice about them.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

Car was running a little rough going up hills at 106,000 miles so I had a transmission service done at aamco. 2 days later the car is in limp mode barely made it home coasted. Low rpms has no power and for some reason it will not go into reverse now. Gets higher rpms and pulls in neutral. Before that the car was fine beside a suspension/ shocks that were never able to be repaired by every mechanic I went to.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

The theft system light has been an issue with this car for some time. The theft system light comes on and stays on by itself as well the systems makes the horn honk when opening or closing the car door. The theft system has made it so that I cannot start my car & this has been an on going problem with my car.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2017

My airbag light stays illuminated even though I replaced the airbags. My break lights come on and off while driving without me pushing the breaks. My car for some reason won't come out of park at times. It's like it doesn't know that's it's in park. This has been happening ever since I bought the car used. I looked up recalls on my type of car and there are recalls that match the description I'm saying but when I put in my VIN number it says I have 0 with my car. I'm wondering if I do have recalls on it but none that have been reported yet. Even in park my cars break lights will be illuminated and I can not pull it out of park. Also fuses burn out in my car like a circuit problems. If I turn my car off and then on to see if it registers that it's in park at times my car will make a stalling sound like it's not getting gas or something to restart the car. I would click more on affected parts but only allows 3.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2015

The car was running fine gradually ran out of power and would not start I was left in the middle of a busy street with no power and not moving. The car would not start it was pulled home.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

Electrical system:wiring exterior lighting:brake lights electronic stability control service brakes hydraulic:switches:brake light steering:electric power assist system the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control panic braking assist features. Turning signals & break lights not responsive. Sudden loss of electric power steering assist that happens at anytime while driving. Pictures attached pushing breaks & using turning signals no response. Car power steering also shuts down in the middle of driving. Contacted dealer will not provide help. Problem has happened for the last 16 months. Almost crashed 5 times.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

Underneath the front seat where a small pipe connecting the seat to the rails broke off at the weld. This made the driver seat to lean to the right and moves from side to side while driving. It's very unstable! it will be a cause of death or injury since the seat belt is part of the system. Upon closer look, it appears the job was not done properly. Poor welding and poor workmanship is very obvious upon inspection. A quick search in the internet shows it's a common problem on chevy Malibu. This needs to be recalled as it poses danger to the driving public.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

The car won't start. Dealer said some problem with the passlock system. A new passlock sensor is needed. I did a search online and found many chevy/gm cars owners reported the same problem. Some even reported that the car stopped during driving in the highway, which is soooooo dangerous. Gm needs to start a recall on this.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2015

I was stopped at a red light, when the car shuts off. I turned the car back on, but if I went slower then 10 mph the car would shut off. I pulled into a local grocery store parking lot, and the car was running hot. I checked the oil and found that the oil was completely empty. I had changed the oil just a week before and had no issues with the oil. The car would not start. I had to get the car towed home. I checked the oil plug and filter and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. Everything was tight and in place. The next day the car would start, but had a horrible knocking noise coming from the motor. Having two little babies, I have not driven it since. I do not want to take a chance on this problem happening again, nor to anyone else.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

Car currently has 3 recalls. Called local chevy (650-994-2400) and was told 2-3 days to fix. Will not provide loaner and I do not have any options for work transportation without it for 3 days. So I'm forced to continue driving it without getting the parts fixed anytime soon. All 3 recalls items can be done in 1 day based on approximations but chevy can't guarantee it will be done in 2 days and they refused to setup an appointment time to bring in to schedule tasks accordingly. Gross negligence by gm to give no priority for cars they sold but customers they can't profit off of. Filing this complaint incase I get injured or killed due to recall parts as I will want them to be held liable. Thanks.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Vehicle is unable to smoothly shift into park position to allow the key to be turned off. Certified mechanic stated the shifter cable is most likely the defect. Many models have already been recalled. The car in not able to shift into park to allow turning of the the key ignition switch to the off position so that the car battery turns off. Sifter cable could possibly malfunction during normal driving/operation, starting/stopping.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2015

I've had lots of problems with the power steering going out on my 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. I called gm many times asking if there were any type of recalls. There were none. Had power steering fixed at my cost. Several years later I received recalls about the power steering on my 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Two months ago I took my vehicle to a gm dealership to be checked. The power steering parts were replaced. Today I was almost in an accident due to the power steering going out in my car again. This time it was worse than ever before. Today the power steering not only locked up, but then the steering wheel popped back in the opposite direction with force and a loud noise. Had to have vehicle towed home because it was on a Sunday and now going to have to have it towed back to the dealership on Monday. For 4 years I've had nothing but trouble with my power steering. Very dangerous and scary, especially when you have grandchildren in the car!!!.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

When coming to a stop, I went to make a right hand turn when a signal and a dash light went off and the power steering just went out, no previous warning. I had the car towed and when it was hooked up to have the diagnosis done, the power steering just reset itself. However it was noted that there was a recall for the the power steering and I should take it to a dealer. I was charged $44. 99 for that information. I took the car into the dealer near me about a week later which was the very first appointment I could make. There were actually 3 existing recalls (two unrelated) on my car and all three were addressed on March 24. I left believing that my car was now fixed and safe to drive. On April 16th I drove over 30 miles one way from my home with the false sense of security because on April 18, the power steering just went out, again when making a right turn. I took the car back on April 20 and after charging me $59. 50, (they were going to charge me $118!!!) I was told the issue was "unrelated to the recall" and was not covered. I did not have it fixed due to the high cost (quote of $889. Estimated) and I feel strongly that it is all related! my personal mechanic recommended I report the issue to gm and feels that gm should fix the power steering issues. The recall issue caused a "trickle down effect" with the whole steering column. He is willing to fix the car but noted that if he does I would have no recourse with gm and that I should try getting it covered before he does anything to the car. Now, not only is it extremely difficult to drive, it is unsafe. Not driving the car as it can cause a major accident where either myself or someone else could be injured or killed and cause extensive property damage. I don't have the funds to fix it, a car to get to work and I am making payments and paying insurance on a car that is not safe to drive.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

The driver was traveling on a two lane road and came to a curve in the road at which time she reported that the brakes would not slow or stop the car and the car began to veer in an unintended (and unsteered) direction. The driver attempted to correct the car's path and speed and it went out of control striking four cars, crossing a divider and impacting head on with a 4 x 4 truck. The driver commented that the "car went wild".

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

The traction light, abs brake light, and service light are coming on and do not go out. The shift gear also has a problem.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

The ignition switch is acting up . I got into the car tried to start the car but there was nothing, I thought it was the battery but that was not it. Everything working. But when you turn the key there was nothing, I tried it 4 times. On the 5th time ith turned started. This has happed 8 different times. I know there is a recall on the ignition switch but I haven't received one. I need it so that if I can ever get into a dealer ship that had parts I can get it fixed. .

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Key is stuck in the ignition.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

The shift selector stopped shifting gears. Though the stick will shift into park, the vehicle will remain in gear. This could cause the vehicle to roll away unless it is turned off prior to releasing the brake. This issue is described in an existing gm recall which covers some Malibu maxx vehicles manufactured between 2003 and 2007. Our mailbu maxx was manufactured in June of 2004 and has the exact problem presented in the recall, but is apparently not covered under the recall.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

First, my transmission shifter cable went out (thankfully in my driveway where no one was harmed) so after doing some research we discovered gm had a recall for this part, that supposedly covered my make, model and year. After calling gm with my VIN they claimed my car was not a part of this recall. This makes very little sense to me because my car had the same problem the recall stated. They refused to cover my car. All while they had this part on a national hold, making it nearly impossible to fix their mistake. Now, my car has a used and possibly faulty part in it because they still will not cover it. Well now about a month later I'm having a hazard switch problem with the same car. Come to find out they recalled this part on 2000-2001 Malibus, but they're are many reports of 2002-2004 Malibus with the same problem that they refuse to cover. My point here is that gm continually makes mistakes that need fixing, but pick and choose what they will be fixing. Both of these problems could be potentially dangerous and could easily cause an accident. Something needs to be done about this situation with gm.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

I was in the process of slowing down for a red light on a busy highway when my car just died. I had two kids in the car with me. Something bad could have happened. Good thing it the car died at a red light. I waited a few minutes and the car started up. I had the car tested for any codes and nothing showed for a reason why the car did this. This has happened several times. The first time it happened was about 3 years ago.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

In July 2014 I received a recall notice on the transmission shift cable. Stating that it may fracture at any time. I have tried to get the car in to get this issue fixed but once again, I'm being told that there are no parts in yet. This could be a extremely bad thing. This car is not safe to drive.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

Security system went haywire. I got in my car tried to start it, it will start, but dies in seconds, no dash lights, if I leave the ignition turn to on after so long 10 minutes or longer sometimes the dash lights will turn on again. And then I am able to start my car and drive it, however sometimes the car even after waiting a half hr will not reset the passlock security system. It costs over $500. 00 to fix and this is the second one I have had to replace in my car. The dealer should be fixing this issue as it is a known issue and has had multiple complaints all over the internet. This is ridiculous how can the charge such an outrageous amount and yet it go bad again and not recall this.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

I had my key stuck in accessory the ignition so my car battery would run dead. I was told I might need a ignition cylinder for my vehicle but looking on the internet I see this is a known issue for this make, model, and year. This should be recalled a fix that the manufacture to pay for a known problem. To get this replaced is almost $900. 00.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

While shifting from park to reverse to back out of my driveway the shift handle popped up and is no longer attached completely to the shift lever. I have to push down on the handle while pushing in the button to shift or else the handle pops up and I am not able to shift.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Daughter was turning the corner and the steering wheel stop turning and she ran into a snow bank. Car is inoperable now. The car had been difficult to turn since I purchased it. I took it to a mechanic who couldn't find anything wrong with it. I also took it back to the dealership where I purchase and they would not honor the warranty, and this was only a couple of weeks after I purchased it.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

When starting the car the ignition gets stuck, there is a recall on other models but not the 2004 Malibu, and also the right rear tire rod has part that has come loose, took to tire shop and showed where the part will have to be welded back to the rod. Currently have recall on steering for 2004 Malibu 14116.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2012

The driver's seat broke. While driving the seat moves up and down. While driving on uneaven roads the seat bounces up and down. It is very distracting and messes with the allignment of the drivers back. This is very dangerous.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I purchased my car in 2005 and this problem didn't start until 2012. My car will not start at times and the first time it happened I had no idea that it was the ignition switch/antitheft system kicking in. For some reason my car thought I was trying to steal it. I had the fuel system looked into and changed a couple of parts thinking that was the problem, but obviously now I know it wasn't. I have had it plugged in and no diagnosis was found. I did bring it to a man that works on Chevrolets and he told me I probably need a new ignition switch. So for two years now, I have to reset my ignition switch/anit theft system on many occasions, which takes 10 minutes while your sitting where ever you may be. I do strongly beleive that this needs to be a recall as I see sooo many complaints about this. Unfair that we all have to fix this issue ourselves when the gm should be fixing the issue!!!!.
