general problems of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

Power steering went out and water pump.

No accedents. Trying to be a head of it!.

Came back from running an errand and when I went to go back out to the car to start it to run another errand it wouldn't turn over. The lights and alarm, the radio wipers a/c everything else would come on but it just wouldn't turn over! and I need my vehicle I have upcoming appointments and it's the only thing I have to get around. I've been without a vehicle for almost three weeks now. I need help, I'm low income and I need help getting it back on the road.

The car's anti-theft system (indicated on the dashboard lights) will randomly lock up the engine. Following a massive list of online suggestions from other chevy owners who had the same problem, I learned to wait for 10-15 minutes with the key in the ignition (lights/radio on, no engine) before the anti-theft indicator disappears and the car can start again. Sometimes, I will have to repeat the process 2-3 times. This has been happening randomly for over 2 years despite taking it into a chevy dealer for repairs twice. They claimed it was a battery issue and charged me over $500 to fix nothing; the engine would lock up again within a month. A cursory google search shows that this has affected hundreds if not thousands of gm vehicles, some even claiming the anti-theft lock engaged while they were driving. Please put some serious investigation into the matter so people like me can stop getting price gouged and stuck in freezing weather for gm's incompetence.

Fuel tank straps are broken one completely gone other severely damaged from rust. This is a serious safety issue. I ran VIN #'s didn't see an open recall yet on the chevy 05 trucks they have recalls. Normally I would try an fix this myself unfortunately do to age and broken ribs I can't crawl under car to fix. I can only assume that this chevy Malibu isn't the only one with this safety issue. So can someone please make gm recall before a individual loses a full tank of gas on the highway causing god knows what type of catastrophe or deaths. Dollars an cents . There was a recall on this vehicle back in 2016. The issue was fixed, but since now has broken again. It is not drivable and was in motion. It is the transmission shift cable kit (recall # 14152a).

Car battery keeps dying even though it's new and we have changed fuses. We took the car to mechanic they can find why losing charge on battery. Keep jumping of won't stay charged bit 1 day .

The car is hard to shift out of park, the break lights stay on while driving and go off when pressed.

As I was driving up the highway at around 50 mph, with my three kids inside, my 2005 Malibu LS just decides to start losing speed (I used hazard lights) and just gradually stops!! a neighbor helped me get my car down the highway and to our apartments. I tried about twenty minutes later to start my car . It could not have been the battery or the fuel pump because all the electrical lights in the car still came on and the gas needle moved when my key was turned to the on position. However my car did not even crank. It still doesn't want to start. I live outside of city limits and I own my car but this random incident can cause me to lose my job and apartment. I purchased this vehicle less than a year ago and had no prior problems. I could have been killed along with my kids this is very unsafe. There is recall #11e009000 not sure if it is why this car almost killed us but gm definitely owes an explanation for these faulty killer cars on the road.

Ignition switch sometimes will not start car in park (an occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the ignition lock cylinder. Failure of the ignition lock cylinder may prevent the vehicle from starting ).

I was parking my vehicle. I had put the vehicle in reverse to back up and the gears just started to slide up and down. The gears would not catch at all, they just started sliding. It stayed in reverse. The car would not stop moving backward, so I had to put on my emergency break! I was very shuck up. This is dangerous and alarming when your gears go out. I had my car towed to my house. I will not drive a car that stays stuck in reverse. What if this should happen while I am driving. This would cause a serious accident for me and other safe drivers. Please fix this defect!!!!!!!! who will tell my story if I am dead!!!!.

My son wrecked his car and it rolled multiple times and none of the air bags went off he was driving and his car struck a guardrail and continued in motion and rolled multiple times he was cut from the car.

My car theft system light keep coming on. One day it came on while I was driving and the car cut off in the middle of the high way I was struck there for 20 minutes until the light stop blinking. This is very very dangerous this is going to cause someone to get into a bad accident. U don't know when the light will come on but it do u will be stranded somewhere this need to recalled. I have research the internet and this have been going on with chevy cars for a while now this doesn't make any sense. I have put and new fuel pump in the car and spstk plugs. If this don't get recall I will never never never get an chevy car again and I will make sure my family and friends and their family and friends don't either.

My 2005 Malibu is extremely hard to start. It also cuts off without warning. This is very dangerous, as well as frustrating. In cold weather, it will crank after only a few tries. In warm weather or after driving the car, it can take up to 30 minutes to crank. It spins but does not start without a major hassle. When the car finally starts, I have to hold down the gas pedal to prevent it from cutting off again. Frequently, it still cuts off when I put it into gear & I have to go through the starting process repeatedly. It is not reliable & has resulted in my being late to work, as well as leaving me stranded. A female being stranded is not safe. If it should happen to cut off in traffic, I will have no control of the vehicle which could result in an accident. I have tried the suggestions related to this common issue which is blamed on the theft deterrent system, but I continue to have the same problems. This is an every day occurrence, forcing me to start cranking my car 30-45 minutes before I have to leave for work & causing me to sit alone in parking lots trying to start my car so I can go home. The check engine light is on and I had it connected to a computer to be tested. The code number said "no part, no fix" & the mechanic who checked it said he had never seen that so had absolutely no idea what it meant. Reading online forums, I have found that this is a very common complaint from Malibu owners, yet nobody knows how to fix the problem. Chevrolet needs to recall and resolve this issue before someone dies due to it.

On 28 Feb 2016 around 11:50 am, me, my two daughters and my mom was headed north on I-185. While riding we were talking about what we was going to put in the house we had just gotten approved for that Friday and in mid conversation as I'm going around the curve my car goes over the fog line and I couldn't get the car back into my lane and before I knew it I hit the median (wall) on the left side, my hood flew up and the car bounced off the wall and all I really remember from that point is smashing on break but apparently the car kept going, hit the right side of the wall and came to a stop there. Next thing I know a man was waking me up asking am I okay and said help was on the way. I heard my daughter crying for her sister because she wouldn't move so I get out the car and began to get them out to assure they're okay and everything else is really a blur. I remember a man helping my mom out the car as me and my kids sat on the ground waiting for help and I remember going to the hospital with my kids.

I bought my car in 2013 and it's been a decent car. However it is the 2nd Malibu that I've owned and it's got the same issues. The running lights have an electrical error where they short out and melt the actual lights. I'm constantly having to replace the bulbs. I've gotten to where I just turn them off. The 2nd thing happened today. My first Malibu didn't have a sunroof but this one does. I was driving on the interstate when all the sudden I heard this loud explosion, like a gunshot or a semi truck tire blowing up. I look all around me and when I looked up, glass was falling on my head. My sunroof randomly exploded. And according to several mechanical engineers, it's physically impossible for an object flung by another vehicle to shatter a sunroof. Apparently manufacturers have started getting lazy with sunroofs when making cars, so if I were you, I wouldn't buy a car with a sunroof.

While driving on city streets and highways the front wheels start to wobble and shake. . After a while of driving the brakes seem to start braking and slowing down the car on its own. . Also you can smell a burnt or rubber smell from the wheels are brakes all occurs at the front of the car, very nerve wrecking. I'm scared to drive the vehicle on the highway due to this problem.

The ignition cylinder on my 2005 Chevrolet Malibu classic failed, and the key comes out of the ignition in the accessory position. The general motors recall to make the key hole smaller on the key itself to fix ignition problems is an incomplete repair. Upon contacting gm about the ignition problem, they immediately told me not to drive the vehicle, and they had the vehicle towed to gillman Chevrolet harlingen at their expense, but so far gm has refused to make a complete repair to the ignition. Gm maintains that the recall to the ignition problem is only to fix the key hole, and does not want to authorize a complete repair for the ignition failure. Also, the shifter selenoid has failed, and the key won't return to the off position. The theft system also failed on this vehicle and won't allow the car to turn on. When the theft system fails, the only way to turn on the vehicle is to leave the key in the ignition for 10 minutes which then resets the theft system. Gm is building substandard vehicles and won't make complete repairs on the faulty ignitions. This is a safety issue for gm customers and after a week of trying to get gm assistance to repair my ignition problem, the gm customer service representative has not returned my calls.

My car has electrical problems!!! kicking off all kinds of sensor alarms I. E map,tps,maf. . . Just to name a few I've replaced all of them about 6 times now!!!! my car feels like it's in "limp" mode it keeps losing power and won't allow me to go over 20!!! it's been burning through oil and I know it's slowly going destroy my engine!! this wiring issue need fixed ASAP!.

My Malibu had a recall for the gear shift cable. Every since it broke, my car key has been stuck in the ignition. This never happened before the gear shift cable broke. When I took my car to be fixed, I assumed since it happened the same time the gear shift cable broke it has to do with the break ! your Chevrolet dealer who fixed the cable said it wasn't part of the recall. . I'm confused on how it dosen't have to do with the break. . It worked just fine until that break. My key is still stuck in the linkage ! I have complained of this before, but heard nothing. . I don't know if this helps but I do have a case # 82522411746. Please help me with this matter. I don't feel it should be my responsibility to fix this, since it happened at the same time as my gear shift lever. . The front turning signals have not worked for 2 years I have had the head lights completely replace twice. The second time I had them replaced when the light housing of the turn signals were opened the light bulb and hook ups were melted together.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the engine after multiple attempts. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and diagnosed for electrical code failure. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

I used my scanner tool and I got the code p0826 which is due to a problem with the shifter, the shift cable must be broken. Am I entitled to take my car to get fixed in a dealer before an accident occurs or somebody dies?.

On 11/21, I took my 2005 Malibu to the gm dealership for a recall on the "steering" to replace the torque sensor assembly. Nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000. When I left the dealership and driving for awhile, I noticed my car would partially stall at traffic lights or stop signs. I called the dealership when I got home and they told me to bring it back the next day, but I had to work. Today, 11/26 I took my car to the gm dealership because the car continues to partially stall at traffic lights or stop signs. I informed one of the reps what was happening and that I had no signs of this issue before the recall replacement. I was told they never went under the hood of my car during the recall replacement. It was all done at the steering column; that this issue is something that just happens without any warning at all. He informed me that other folks have come in with the same issue. . . Not sure if this was after they also had the recall done. I tried telling the service dept. , I had no other issues before bringing my car to them for the recall, but instead was told this was not their fault and I would have to pay for whatever is wrong with the car. I didn't let them touch it again. I will take it to my mechanic, who I never had an issue with after working on my car. I noticed there was a recall in 2011 for component(s): fuel system, gasoline; NHTSA campaign number: 11e009000 and never received this recall. I bought this car from car max in 2011. Just speculating if this may be my problem. I also never received the recall for NHTSA campaign number: 14v224000 component(s): power train. More work to do to find the answers.

The knob you change gears with has a pin it and the pin has broken. It got to be a problem when I when to the junk yard to buy a knob all of them was broken it is very hard to find in the junk yard . Will you please help me find one I am 75 years old and I don't know what to do some time when I try to put the car in gear it will not move. One auto repairman say I will have to replace the whole drive console. Please help me!!!.

Tamara recall. When the transmission control cable broke in my car, the recall covered the replacement of the cable. . But the key is stuck in my car every since this incident of the cable. . My car was stationary, just within minutes of getting of the interstate. I pulled into store parking lot. The cable broke, the key was stuck. I had to be towed home. To this day, I have not been able to remove the key. . Both of these incidents happened at the same time. This should of been fixed, but it wasnt. Now my car is having electrical problems and sometimes won't start. . Please help me to correct this. .

Fyi (the incident date is when I had my car fixed at a work shop) I replaced my fuel pump, left axle and and transmission. (total $2484. 92) I have a recall for my fuel pump (NHTSA campaign number: 11e009000 ) but gm won't replace it due to it not being built in a certain location. My electrical system has a recall (NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 ) my key ignition has a recall although the Chevrolet dealer has not received parts to replace this defect. My transmission also has a defect ( the transmission has a clichã© on 2nd and 3rd gears and gm is not fixing these problems and continue to make these defected transmissions) my transmission repair shop replace these clichã©s and charged me $1750. 00 and gave me a warranty. My electrical has a defect, I keep changing my fuses because of my electrical system( NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 ). Gm is neglecting to fix my car. I will never purchase another Chevrolet again.

From the time we bought this car in June 2014 to now, the car has periodically shut off while the car is in motion. Usually it has occurred at very low speed fortunately. It is difficult to get the key to the the true off position despite this. The recall only calls for a plastic insert to be installed on the key, which was done on 10/30/14. The car stills has the shut off issue, it has gotten worse, and the dealership says it needs the ignition switch and the lock cylinder replaced. The insert on the key is insufficient to fix the ignition switch issue. One still has to keep nothing else on the key ring, yet gm insists the problem is truly fixed by putting an insert on the key. Sounds like the ignition switch is faulty, too sensitive and they have an insufficient fix.

To date, I have received 3 different recall notices from gm dealing with my vehicle. Though I understand that these parts may not be available immediately, I don't and will never understand why I am unable to get a loaner car until these problems can be taken care of. I was instructed to drive my vehicle until I had a problem and then it would be taken care of. What kind of advice is that? I've talked to several people today about my issue and no one cares. I can pretty much guarantee none of them would have their wives and small children in the same position I'm in. All I want to be able to do is go to work and make it home safely to my child.

Car wont start at times because of ignition switch a real problem getting to work been waiting for my recall havent received yet its not just a problem while driving its a problem getting the car to start also please let gm know this.

Ignition key issue in my 2005 chevy classic Malibu when the car is on in the run position when the car is in drive and park the key can come out by taking it out and the car is still running. The key is also loose it tends to fall out of the ignition and the car is still running. The car shift gear for park and drive and neutral when you pull it back it gets stuck all the time sometimes I able to move it forward and backwards without having to press the button. The car also shakes during high winds it goes left and right from high winds.

The transmission shift cable may fracture at any time. No remedy avaialble. No parts available. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle, expecially with my 2 year old. The us national traffic and motor vehicle safety act provides that each vehicle that is subject to a recall of this type must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the customer has tendered it for repair. A failure to repair within sixty days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the customer may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. To avoid having to provide these burdensome remedies, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each customer and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. In the recall notification letters, customers are told how to contact the us national highway traffic safety administration if the recall is not completed within a reasonable time. Recall in may, no fix still in September?? that is not a resomable amount of time.

I have a 2005 chevy Malibu it has all of the symptoms as the recall for the ignition switch, the power steering gose out when it wants to, it shuts off sometimes when you come to a stop and the air bag light is on, it has not occured since we put the key on a ring by itself, but they won"t honor it says it's not on the list but the 2005 Malibu maxx is on the list! the maxx is the same car but with a hatchback instead of a trunk, can u please look into this and tell me what if anything can I do?.

Door locks go up and down continuously while driving the car. When the car is parked and not locked (inside a secure garage), the factory alarm goes off when opening the doors. The electric lock switch on the driver door will not always unlock the other car doors. The key-in-ignition chime has started chiming even when the keys are not in the ignition. This all started Sunday, March 30th, 2014. It has continued daily from then until now (Wednesday April 2nd) and is still happening.
