My daughter-in-law was driving the vehicle to work, lost control of the car, went off the road and hit a tree. Her brakes would not engage and she lost power in the steering forcing her to go off the road and hit a tree. There have been several recalls on the vehicle but it is not driveable, I still have the vehicle at my house.

I purchased a used chevy 2005 Malibu maxx from east hills Chevrolet. I had problems with the steering in 08' they replaced or repaired the steering gears. 5 years later and 30,000 miles (local) I have the same problem that was sited in a bulletin with my VIN number however, gm, nor the dealer will repair it for me. The cost $1,100. 00 of which I do not have at the present moment. What do I do drive a potentially dangerous car??? I am getting no help from gm and am prepared to take my car back and sell it and buy anything but a chevy as the whole line is plagued with this problem. Sincerely marie torrisi-rochester.

The key will not come out of the ignition in colder weather. I can turn the car on and off but not remove the key unless the car is driven for at least 20 mins. And is warm. This makes it very difficult for short trips where I need to park. Dealership replaced ignition cylinder & keys10/24/2013 but problem still there. Impalsa has same problem - had shift lock replaced 4/4/2014. This car needs to be recalled.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Since 2010, with car only being 5 years old, the key began hardly working in the ignition. We had to keep jiggling and re-trying until would work. The recall only covered notifying owners not to put extra keys on their key chain but would not cover the fact that the ignition lock cylinder was faulty. Continued to live with this problem, then the theft deterrant light started going on because of the necessary jiggling -- where the car won't start and you have to turn to acc and wait 10 minutes. Once again, dealer refused to cover. Stationary problem, but for my elderly father, not good for the key not to work for a while, or will not start for at least 10 minutes due to theft system being activiated.

Brake lights are reversed. They come on and stay on then when you brake the light go out. Safety issue for sure. This has happened 4 times about one year apart each time.

Driving down the NJ turnpike the warning bell chimed and a message stating "power steering" came up. At that point my power steering failed. Once I arrived at my destination and turned the car off and on again, the power steering once again engaged. However on the return trip, with my 82 year old mother in the car the power steering once again failed. Dealer informed me that there was a failure of the power steering control module/motor assembly and electrical. Chevrolet has acknowledged a failure of the power steering in this model, this year and within the range that this VIN falls. However the technical service bulletin only applies if the failure is within the steering column. According to the regional manager I spoke with, the Chevrolet warranty dept. Feels that this problem is just one of the issues you will face when owning a car!!! total and complete failure of the power steering system with no warning and no maintenance ever is just one of those things???.

My husband was killed in an accident involving this vehicle. It says in the accident report that the bcm was unresponsive as well as another computer system and the wipers were on in dry weather. I believe a defect contributed to the accident. My husband was traveling with the right of way on a motorcycle when the sedan left turned in front of him.
