My name is derrick williams, jr. I am submitting this complaint on behalf of a close family member, mr. E. V. Leslie. Mr. Leslie is 90 years with no access to a computer. He resides at 88 fernhill avenue, buffalo, new york, 14215, and owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Mr. Leslie received three safety recall notices that are summarized below: June 2014 - first recall notice stated: your vehicle, equipped with eps may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist that could occur at any time while driving. Steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but would require greater driver effort at low vehicle speeds, which could result in an increased risk of a crash. July 2014 - second recall notice stated: traction control, electronic stability control (ecs), and panic braking assist features, if equipped, may be disabled. Service esc and/or traction control tell-tales lights may illuminate with this condition. These conditions may increase the risk of a crash. July 2014 - third recall notice stated: your vehicle has a condition in which the transmission shift cable may fracture at any time. If the driver cannot place the vehicle in park, and exists the vehicle without applying the park brake, the vehicle could roll away and a crash could occur with prior warning. Mr. Leslie contacted the local Chevrolet dealership in June 2014. The local Chevrolet dealership keller Chevrolet (david langan), 3600 genesee street, p. O. Box 242, cheektowaga, NY 14225. Resolution: mr. Leslie feels that while he is waiting for gm to receive replacement parts for his 2005 Malibu, the local dealership should provide him with a safe loaner vehicle as his existing 2005 Malibu. Mr. Leslie can be reached (716) 835-5158 (home) (716) 949-5090 (mobile) thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
After the vehicle has warmed up after driving 10 miles, the gears do not shift appropriately. The transmission stays in 2nd or 3rd gear causing loss of acceleration from a stopped position (such as a red light) mechanic ruled out any problems with the transmission by itself. At 45000 miles I noticed a popping noise in the front end (passenger side) when I made a left turn. I took it into my mechnic and he said the cv shaft was going out, but it would take awhile before it did. It didnt get worse for awhile, now at 62000, the front end has a horrible shaking, pulls to the right side, pops all the time and the tire on that side makes a weird flapping noise, it almost feels like the tire itself is out of round or something, and it is wearing smooth on the inside of the tire. I have been doing some research and it seems other Malibu owners are having the exact same problems, is this a safety issue that needs to be under recall? is gm aware of this issue?.

It has been over 5 months since recall, and gm has still not come up with the replacement parts. This delay appears to be intentional. Can NHTSA do anything to speed up this process?.
I own a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. I have had a "clunking" of the "I" shaft since I bought the car and was told "not to worry about it". "won't hurt anything. " "you can have it replaced if it becomes annoying. " "is not covered under extended warranty. " I have my car at a dealership right now to get the "I" shaft replaced. The shop foreman just came in and told me he has had to replace this on "several" Malibus and gm has increased the cost of the "I" shaft because of so many repairs. It use to cost $90-$125. Now he tells me it will cost $150 just for the "I" shaft. He even recommended I file the complaint and see if gm will address this issue and reimburse me for the costs. If a dealer repair shop is saying there have been several cars with this problem, then gm should have corrected this issue at no cost to the consumer 5 years ago. Please help! I am a retired worker and this is killing my meager budget.
