4 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2023

I have a 2009 chevy Malibu that is under the NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000. The recall fix on this vehicle was performed but did not fix the issue and when contacting the local gm dealerships (multiple ones) I was told that the recall was closed on this vehicle and they refused to help at all. This is a very deadly issue the brake lights staying on until you press the brake pedal then they go out when stopped can cause a fatal accident these vehicles need to be properly fixed or repurchased by gm. This is a recurring issue with these vehicles.

5 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2023

Having problems with my rear stop lights, traction control/ indicator light, ecs/ indicator light. When driving center brake light remains on but when I need to apply brakes they go off, lights on dashboard have been on since I purchased the vehicle which were never addressed the only light addressed was the check engine light. All other issues were voided being that they let me drive down to n. C. Knowing it would void my warranty with them after putting 1 thousand miles on the vehicle without notication to me.

The low beam lights are constantly going out. Sometimes they will come back on by themselves or if we move things around a bit, but most of the time they stay off. Most of the time it is one or the other, but as of today both of my low beam lights are out. This is a huge safety issue.

18 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

1) awhile back, after starting and warming engine and taking off, while making a left turn on city street, car turn off completely. . Wheel froze after turn. I turned key off and restarted car and it would work ok. It happened 3 0r 4 times. No warning light came on. I took it to dealership and they could not find the problem. 2) while on freeway, tire monitor warning light came on twice, I bought tires but did not have monitors checked. A few days later engine light came on. Now, I needed smog done, had to replace catalic converter (1400. 00) and mechanic has a problem with car communications system. Its costing me too much. There is recall on something having to do with brakes. . Could this communications problem be related? I did have brake pads replaced last year. The recall has to with bcm and bas (my dashboard lights occassionally fluctuate and take a while for lights to come on bright with dashboard button all way to bright. ). Remote control stopped working 6 months after I bought car in 2010. . . Doors have to be locked manually. . Except for passenger side door, power windows do not work. My concern right now is having it smogged and tire monitors.

21 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2017

The vehicle continuously locks itself and the power lock buttons do not work to open the doors, you have to physically turn the car on and put it in gear then back in park to get the locks to disengage. There are times that the brake/head lights do not work or they turn on by themselves when the car is not running. Earlier today 04-09-17 the vehicle would not start at first, after a few tries the engine turned over but while driving it in town it completely died. The vehicle restarted but could have caused an accident.

High mounted stop lamp, works intermittently, stopped or in motion,(I have read online its a connection at the led high mounted stop lamp). Left and right fender stop lamps work correctly. Not part of recall 13036.

25 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2016

The power door locks engage and disengage at random. When using the unlock button on the key fob or using the button inside the car, the passenger and rear door looks will partially disengage making it hard/impossible to open the door with out manually pulling the lock tab on the door. The electric stability control and traction control will random engage/disengage or display a service message on the cluster screen. The third break light illuminates at random, not always the break is applied. The radio will display random characters while on or go completely blank.

26 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2016

My rear passenger door lock disengaged from the automatic locks and can only be opened from the inside. (spring 2016) my traction control is periodically saying that it has malfunctioned but does not always. When the light comes on, I feel a pulse as I'm braking and sometimes if it comes on while I'm driving I'll feel a slight jolt through the accelerator pedal. I also hear a click noise like the pedal may disengage. (late summer 2016) I don't know if it's related but since most things seem electrical, my radio sometimes will not turn off and seems to do what it wants during times when other things are seemingly malfunctioning (I. E. In conjunction with the traction control issue). On several occasions, I have taken the key out of the ignition, opened the door but my radio doesn't turn off. (late summer 2016) on several occasions, I have taken the key out of the ignition, but the car seems to still be running, like idling. I've thought it was the cooling system, but I've never had this happen in the last 22 years I've been driving nor heard it from anyone else I ask. (late summer 2016) I have also been driving, on several occasions, with cruise control engaged and then realize that I'm slowing down only to find the cruise is no longer engaged. The first few times I thought it was me. Now, I rarely use it because it's not consistently reliable. (late summer 2016) while my fuse and bulbs are fine, both of my taillights are not working. (late November, 2016 when someone brought it to my attention).

27 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

Contacted local dealership for recall. They informed me it was lready done, but problem still persists. I purchased vehicle from my mother and she said she never had the work done. . Power steering keeps going in and out and is a major safety issue.

28 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

My name is rhonda watts. I have a 2009 chevy Malibu(VIN #1g1zh57b09f212064), which I purchased in 2012. I have been having steering/traction issues, that enables me to turn without manpower. And getting worse by the day. I was made aware that there is a recall for the steering issues on 2009 chevy Malibu's as well as other chevy cars. I was getting ready to take in to for repair and was told by ntb when brought in for a wheel alignment that there is a recall for steering issues. I called chevy dealership(jack schmitt) and gm customer service and was told that my car was not on the recall list. How can over a million chevy cars be recalled for the same issue and I'm being told mine is notmake no sense to me. Please help me understand . . . . As this is a life threatening and can cause total loss of control and cause me to crash, which can be fatal to me and other people. Also my break light illuminates all day long. . . Took my car in to have it checked out and the chevy dealership repaired it at no cost to me. . . Because it was a recall issue that I again did not know anything about. . Now the break lights are illuminating again and I was told that since I had it repaired the 1st time its no longer covered under the recall. . . . Never knew recalls expired. I am not at fault for either of these issues. I refuse to pay out of pocket for known recall issues,,,.

29 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Consistent problems with headlamps failing frequently. Alternator fine. Cause is due to corrosion of the wiring and wiring harness. Manufacturer defect prevents replacement of headlamps, wires or wiring harnesses without removing front bumper, wheel and wheel well, making maintenance virtually impossible. Headlamps failed in October 2014 and again in March of this year. General motors unwilling to help with problem. When operating the vehicles in low light conditions or at night, insufficient lighting makes it difficult to spot other vehicles, pedestrians, animals and other road hazards.

30 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The passenger low beam light burns out frequently. Upon fixing the connection was melted. The steering becomes hard to turn while driving slow or slowing down to turn.

31 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Bought my 2009 chevy Malibu ltz in April 2015 in may 2015 my service esc service traction control lights started to come on and my taillights are lighting up as if on the breaks when I am not. ( they come on while I am stoped at a red light have never come on while moving) returned to the dealership where I got my car and the lights were off so they said they could not do anything until the lights were on(the lights reset when I shut my car off). They came on last night went to chevy dealership last night 7/20/2015 and they told me to replace the break pedal switch and we did that but my break lights are still coming on when they want,it looks like there was a recall for this before I got my car and I don't know if it was fixed or not and if it could be fixed again under the recall. . . . . . Very unhappy about this.

32 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

33 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

First issue happened with the driver low beam not working then work again a few days later. The problem keeps going on from passenger and driver low beams. I've noticed the connectors were melted and changed them and they would both work for a few weeks then one would go out again. Second issue is the passenger airbag doesn't turn on when passengers are in the vehicle. It works sometimes but not everytime. Third issue is the passenger side door locks. The door locks work sometimes and again not everytime like they should. There's a lot of people reporting these same issues but nothing gets done unless it's out of our pockets.

34 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

After the completion of repairs for recall 13036 in the fall of 2014 I was informed that my high mount break light was no longer function. After doing a great deal of research I have learned that a great number of consumers are facing the same challenge. My light worked without issues until the recall work was done on my car. The dealership stated that it was not warranty covered nor were they liable for the malfunction. It seems there is a direct connection between the recall repairs and these lights no longer functioning.

35 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

First issue noticed was passenger airbag not on while passengers are in front and rear of vehicle. The passenger airbag sensor works 50% of the time. Second issue started close to the same time as the airbag. When using the keyless entry or the electric lock buttons inside the car , it fails to lock or unlock the passenger side doors. After 30 minutes or so it will then lock the doors. The latest issue started on the 19th of November 2014 with the driver side lowbeam not working as like it's blown. The car has been sitting for two days since and now the lowbeam is working but, it's dim compared to the passenger lowbeam. I believe there's a short in the electrical system from manufacturer. There are many forums online about these issues online from other owners. This car has not had any aftermarket installations of its electrical components and the battery is new. Chevrolet needs to take the time when manufacturing their vehicles instead of cutting corners. Their customers safety should be valued better than worrying about sales. You would think after going under they would take the time to do things right the first time. I highly doubt I will ever purchase a vehicle manufactured after 2002 from Chevrolet due to all of the electrical components that fail or cause serious injury or death. Please fix these issues or lose a 15 year customer.
