I have had recurring and constant problems with the low beam headlights and electrical connections in this car. I've already had the passengers side headlight and drivers side headlight "fixed" between 3 and 4 times. The drivers side low beam is out again as of 2 days ago. As far as the electrical problems, my trunk pop button doesn't work, the rr passengers side door doesn't lock, and I sometimes have trouble getting any of the buttons on my dash to work to change or control anything in the car. I have the same problem with the buttons on my steering wheel. My car has just over 70,000 miles on it. The headlight being out is always an issue when I'm driving. I got pulled over twice the other night because the headlight was out. There needs to be a recall issued for this problem - I've done my research and I know that lots of people have the same problem with this car. Not to mention the labor involved to even access the headlight. It's maddening to have wasted a lot of money to not have this issue fixed. I've had the bulb replaced multiple times, new pigtails installed and even removed the day time running lights connection from the fuse box because I read that having that connected might contribute to the headlight issue. Even that didn't work. Chevy needs to issue a recall. 2 working headlights is a basic need to drive a car. To have this constant issue is ridiculous.
I have repeatedly replaced the passenger side low beam headlight bulb. Once I did it 3 times in two months. When they went out they would go out sometimes and then come back on the next day and go out again. The fourth time I took off the entire bumper to change the light (because the ridiculous design of the car requires you to do this) the light came on as I was removing the lamp from its place in to bumper I left it in and put the light back in (and the bumper back on) it worked for one day and went out again. I decided to register this complaint after finding a website where I went to try to figure out what was going on. At that website, I found many people describing the same problem that I was having, all but one were experiencing this problem on the passenger side. I realize it is dangerous to drive with only one lamp, but the frequency of the problem makes it time an cost prohibitive to continually replace the bulb, especially when it goes out soon after it is replaced. It is very frustrating, I felt I had to do this after trying to fix it again last week. The problem has occurred periodically over the last two years with the most recent occurance on July 8, 2020.
Turning right onto highway when power steering went out completely. Ended up in the oncoming traffic lane. Had to have car towed. After 24 hours the power steering was back on. . . . Passenger headlight has been changed 4 times in 2 years and out again. Bulb connector was changed and harness was changed.
When driving my vehical all of a sudden the lower stearing went out and all these warning lights come on. It's super hard to steer I have 3 kids that ride in this car everyday and it's very dangerous. Also my headlight drivers side has gone out 4 times in the past 6 months and its very expensive to fix!.
Esc turns off and on by itself while driving. Service power steering light comes on and the wheel is hard to turn I have to kill the car and restart it to get it to start working again. When I press my breaks the car jerks and the esc acvtive light comes on. The passenger side headlight goes in and out by itself I've replaced the bulb but it seems to be a wiring issue.
I have replaced 2 low beam front headlights on the passenger side of this vehicle already. I've researched this and it seems that all these cars have the same problem. Low beam bulb keeps going out. Something needs to be done about this. As there is no recalls on this issue yet every Malibu has the same problem.
My passenger side headlight low beam continues to go out. I get it replaced and it will go out again in as short of time as 6 months. Driver side does not have the same issue. The I internet is full of complaints about this same issue.
The passenger side low beam headlight keeps failing. The wiring harness keeps frying over and over. Chevy needs to fix this issue!.
Right front low beam headlight worked intermittently, then not at all. The wire harness was removed and replaced. Pictures attached show melted low beam bulb connector on the oem harness.
Passengers side headlight keeps going out. Harness is actually melting causing connection problems. This needs to be recalled before a fire starts in these vehicles.
Passenger low beam headlights keep going out on 2009 chevy Malibu. I have replaced the bulbs, and the pigtail harness 3 times a year for the last 4 years.
The wire harness for the passenger front headlight keeps burning out the lightbulb now the harness has burned out.
Power of steering keeps going out I have to turn my car off and back on just to get it to steer again. Usually happens when I'm backing out of parking spots or driving slow or turning. My headlights wiring harness has a short in it and one of my lights cuts off and on this happens randomly while I'm driving.
Everyone that I know that has a Chevrolet Malibu is having problems with their headlights. I am getting tickets and replacing bulbs every 2/3 weeks. Replacing them constantly is getting expensive and it's getting expensive because I keep getting tickets.
Steering wheel locks up in cold weather even after being warmed up for more than 5 minutes. Happened twice, second time I did a normal turn to the right it locked up and had to pull over right away. Always unlocks when restarting the car. Right headlight also doesn't properly work. Changed the light bulb two weeks ago and turned off just today. Checked the bulb and still works. I've researched the problems online and there's been recalls and complaints about both of my problems.
In the last 5-6 months my passenger side headlight has been going out, I have replaced the light bulb like 4-5 times, the harness adapter to the headlight lightbulb connector and lastly the entire headlight wire harness from the factory and it is still going out after a day or two.
I have owned my 2009 chevy Malibu lt since 2010. The passenger side dim headlamp is out for the 3rd time! I have been told that several model years including 2009 that the front end must be removed to fix the headlight. I have paid out of pocket twice, for $170+ & $142+ when I have never had to replace a head light on a car, much less remove the whole front end , then it was fixed and burned out a month later each time. I need to have it fixed, but I know my headlight is good, there is just a design failure in keeping the headlight on.
Low beam passenger side headlight keeps going out, even after replacing multiple times.
Power steering keeps going out makes it hard to drive straight and make tight turns and my low beams on my headlights keeps going out too. But there is no recall on my car at and it is really dangerous to drive with my family in it.
My headlights go out all time n it's very scary when you drive n at night it happens.
Headlight conntor keep buring out low beam on passager side second time replacing it in two years.
Since I have had this car in 2010, I have replaced headlights at least 3 times a year, which has cost me at least $200. 00 each visit, I have searched online and it seems to be a very common issue. I have dropped it off for the second time in 3 months to get.
Passenger side headlight intermittently goes out. It is not determined by if it's parked or I'm driving down the road.
Passenger side headlight issue . Headlight lowbeam specifically on passenger side keep going out . After research and testing to find out it's not the actual bulb that's the issue. It's that headlight wiring on several different Malibu's . Changed bulb 3 times in 6 month window .
Passenger headlight has blown twice in less then a year. Driver side air bag warning light keeps coming on. Drivers side seat belt no longer retracts.
I have replaced the driver low bean headlight 3 times in 2018 all within 1-2 months of each other. The last time being in oct 2018 and now its out again.
The second day I had the vehicle power steering went out. I was driving in houston texas in full traffic and my motor had engine power loss. They fixed my power steering. Now my car goes into engine power loss when driving. Esc, traction control and engine power loss come on the display. We've changed the spark plugs and throttle body but still nothing. The car shakes at redlights and stop signs. The ac smells like fumes. When the car is stationary with the ac on the car goes into engine power loss. Left front headlight goes out and comes back on.
Low beam passenger headlight out malfunction somewhere along the lines. . Replaced parts and still currently not working! works for less than a week then stops again. Looked online and it shows many many people have this problem with no solution!.
Takata recal, my cars lock button stopped working and my key pads as well as my headlights go out and come back on on their own. My car was in my driveway and all this happened a few weeks of eachother. Went to change my bulb and old bulb came back on. As well as when all my electrical went bad it was sitting in my driveway all night and battery quit working.
I have had the car serviced 3 times for the headlights going out on me. I was driving home from work at 930pm and noticed my lights were not on. It was pitch black because I have to go through the park to get home. I almost hit the curb because I could not see. I panicked but I tried the brights and they worked so I used them to get home. The greenwood Chevrolet replaced the head light bulbs 3 times but it has to be electrical being that it went out 3 times in 2 months I haven't even had the car a year! on my way home from the grocery store on 3/6/2018 I almost wrecked because the power steering went out on the vehicle. I attempted to turn and almost ran into the back of the vehicle in front of me. The suspension doesn't work either. As of today I cannot drive at night because I do not have any head lights (that's been for 3 months) I cannot drive the car now because I do not have power steering to drive the car. I'm making payments on a death trap because I almost wrecked twice thank goodness god was with me.
Passenger side headlight wire harness keeps going bad. Lightbulb is good. 3rd one within a year and a half.
The gas tank leaks . And I have met another chevy Malibu owners with the same problem . And also the headlight on the passenger side keeps going out , and yes I have met plenty of other chevy owners who have the same problem .
While driving with my lights on the left headlight goes on and off. I've placed another bulb in and it's still doing the same. It only happen on dime the brights works fine.
Serious safety issue for 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. Headlights low beam both right and left keep going out soon after replacement of the pigtail connector that connects the headlamps to the electrical system. Burns out within one or two weeks of being replaced. The local repair shop and Chevrolet dealership service departments say it cannot be repaired to stop the pigtail from burning out. We called Chevrolet and they will not help. In researching this issue in Chevrolet Malibu 2009 chatrooms this is a very common safety problem. If the lights burn out at night we are in trouble. To replace the pigtail connector the front bumper has to be removed, costing over $200 per incident. This is a serious safety issue that cannot be resolved at Chevrolet service departments. How is it possible to not permanently be able to repair this serious safety issue?.
Passenger headlight loses power. Light bulb changes 3 times and they all are not burned out. Changed wiring. Light will now stay lit. Low beam only. This has been going on for a year.
